    Thanks for the video. Looks like you put a lot of thought into your build. Do you have any problems due to weather with it mounted on your roof rack? I'm concerned about rain/snow getting in the open holes in the case. I would think that you'd get a fair amount of water in the 3 inch hole for the hot air and also the air filter would get soaked too, no? Perhaps it's not that big of an issue since you moved the controller outside of the box and into the tent... ?

    Any issues with the heater sucking in exhaust back into the tent when the heater is running?

  • @rongreen7308
    @rongreen7308 Рік тому

    I am looking to put one under my camper van. However, a few things to know...First that green fuel line dries out, gets brittle, and cracks leading to fuel leaks. That is not good on your vehicle, especially should you and your daughter be trapped up there. Second, plastic and exhaust heat don't mix, not to mention the exhaust really needs to be further away from your tent. I like the car air filter idea but i would have gotten a bigger one to allow for better air flow, especially as this one starts to clog. Restrictions on intake and exhaust have been known to cause them to carbon up, lose efficiency and eventually fail. I have an extended Transit van and will be putting mine in an aluminum box secured to the underside. I know I will have to run 2 air ducts to the inside but the exhaust pipe will be 100% outside the vehicle. How has that heater worked for you without an air return? Have you had it carbon up at all??? Subscribed, liked, notifications enabled.

    Thank you so much for sharing!!! I have this same heater and I love it but have struggled with the exhaust getting so hot that it melts/burns where it exits out the wall. I will try the adapter/connector you have used.
    I also love the roof tent you have! Did you have to install special railings on your roof to hold the weight?

    I would put the heater at least 3 meters away from the tent, one reason is for the noise, another reason is for safety; also your hot air outlet duting is the flexible type which is wrong, as you can easily bend the duting more than 270 degrees which stop the hot air from coming out freely cause the overheating issue. You should use the straight hard duting

    • @michaelandrew83
      @michaelandrew83 2 роки тому +2

      These are designed to be fitted inside of vehicles, it has an exhaust port which should be ducted away from your fresh air but the actual heater can be anywhere.

I built one this fall and used it in Moab in November but it was a terrible install job on my part because the Pelican case isn’t big enough. Curios..that exhaust manifold must transfer allot of heat to the case no....?

    • @4X4Carpool
      @4X4Carpool  3 роки тому +3

      Not a lot of heat is transferred to the case. Even the outside ring of the exhaust fitting can be touched at full operating temperature. I’ve ran it 3 times now, all 3 times have been over 10 consecutive hours with no issues. Before I installed it on the roof I ran it for 7 consecutive hours. I ran many tests on this setup before final completion, the biggest problem I had was finding the right flange for the heated air to pass through. The ones used in this video are the 3rd ones fitted. The first 2 kept melting, I finally found the aluminum flanges and it’s working great.
      As I’m writing this, we are on Bradshaw Trail camping, my wife and kids are enjoying the warmth of this heater. Haha
