Hi, but why they are making fun out of the word “brief” in this part (7:49). Would you please explain me what is the meaning of this word? 🙏🏻 ps: im beginner in english
I love Ramy, he's so honest yet endearing in his comedy. Jenny is great too. I love comedian roundtables. Its so importance to come together. Yeah no matter if you are a fan or not snl can't leave, people need laughter all the time honestly especially nowadays.
This was amazing. The fact that you were able to have such real conversations about some very sensitive yet crucial topics. I'm just glad the questions were asked, let alone the thought out answers you got in return. Really wish it went on longer.
38:33 I think Alex is 100% right about specificity being universal. I love watching stories from other cultures because I can notice similarities between mine and theirs, it teaches me about our differences, and I love watching other people speak about what's meaningful to them
It’s why I love My Big Fast Greek Wedding. I’m Middle Eastern but I see a lot of cultural stuff similar to mine that makes me feel for her culture more
The care that is evident between Ramy and Alex especially (but everyone, really) has healing properties. Comedy continues to save lives (I know it has mine).
These are artists in such a raw and authentic sense, and it's so cool to see and hear them talk about their process with such openness and owning it 100%. I've been a fan of a few of these comics for a while and Iove getting to know new ones.
This is so intimate and personal , I know a huge part of the reason I’ve always been drawn to stand up comedy is the comics themselves .. there is some thing in the spirit of most comics that I very much identify with and this only confirms that it’s not just been the comedy and the jokes , all along I’ve wanted to know these people , what makes them tick , how they empty their head , why comedy seems to heal parts of them I ve not been successful at healing any other way , what seems to give them peace or joy .. and it almost always comes back to being seen .. I feel invisible most days in my life .. I very much understand wanting to be seen and heard . Thank you for this . Respect for each of these comedians has grown because of this interview ❤
I could listen to Jenny Slate talk for hours, love her sensitivity and general vibe. I feel like a better environment to listen to her would be a one-on-one conversation on her porch or something, though. Can't wait for her new book!
I've been so massively impressed with each of you when you hit those real moments. Please keep doing you!!! This world needs you being as real as you are!!!
I love all of these people so much - it's great to see them all together appreciating each other and comedy in general. Great job by Lacey Rose moderating, and thanks to all of them for doing it.
19:42 Such a wise observation from Ramy and Mike. When you're halfway through cracking a bit, audiences might not like it, but it's important that you keep at it to achieve the best you can. As Ramy says, it's like growing out your hair
I find it so funny how The Hollywood Reporter is unwilling to just name this series "Roundtable." They're constantly flipping through names: Off Script, Close Up, etc. Why not just name it "Roundtable"?
Would you guys consider an actors roundtable of let’s say Daniel Day Lewis, Anthony Hopkins Patrick Stewart and Ian Mckelle, Michael Cain, Charles Dance and Bill Nighy, Ben Kingly and the like? Jeremy Irons and Liam Neeson also?
It's interesting to hear the stand-up comics' perspective on the appropriateness of the shows on October 7, 2023. I'm curious if there was such a conversation or, at least, some thoughts and doubts on February 24, 2022.
I would love if y'all could start with a positive question in the future - like what's the best audience reaction you've ever received? I feel like starting off on a negative question is such an awkward experience for the panelists and for the audience listening.
there are some talented, funny ppl at this table but seeing THR standup roundtable and then finding this lineup is like when you go to an NBA game and all the starters are resting
Yes, Hostin article about Hasan Minhaj that was seen as shaking up stand up comedy because Hasan’s personal stories in his show were not authentic. Essentially, the difference between “based on a true story” vs autobiographical and what audiences are lead to believe. Some comedians are more “based on a true story” than others in generating material.
Well, comedy isn’t really built like that. Everyone has their own audience. Comedy like art is Subjective. But if we’re going by like touring.. Shane Gillis Mark Normand ,Stavros..Andrew Schultz, Matt Rife. But Mike Birbiglia and Taylor are HUGE in their own right. I’d think Mike is possibly the best one out of both groups, but again, that’s subjective.
she's definitely *trying* her best to be a TV person now. She's changed her comedy a lot in the last 18 months. I don't really like her new material, but she's obviously ambitious and I hope it gets her what she wants to get.
@yegrosal Hi, but why they are making fun out of the word "brief" in this part ( 7:49 ). Would you please let me know what is the meaning of this word? 🙏🏻ps: im beginner in english
this roundtable or comedians is not exactly an all-star lineup of comedians. Instead of bringing in an Olympic team they brought in the players that scrimmage against the Olympic team.
It's like instead of getting the top 5 MVP candidates, they brought in a table of two younger All-NBA guys (Taylor, Rami), a one-time allstar (Slate), and three prominent role-playing starters whose teams just had deep playoff runs That's still an interesting conversation for people who like basketball, it's just not going to get the most amount of clicks
@@melvinjoseph952 If we measure comedians by stats (stand up ratings and tickets sold)... then I'm going to have to disagree that Rami is all-NBA, or that anybody here is a one-time all star. There's a LOT of stand ups way more popular than this group. This is like a lineup with Harrison Barnes and Brandon Ingram at best.
@@melvinjoseph952 To answer your broader point: I'm sure it's interesting to some people, but definitely wasn't for me. These performers are spending way more time talking about "emotional truths" instead of talking about the craft of joke writing. Many of the comedians who do pull big numbers would make fun of the angle of this conversation.
@@yegrosalThere have been great players, that didn't get a lot of popularity outside of their team's fanbases for years, and the way they got recognition was through media awards Rami is very well-regarded amongst comedy circles, and he's definitely someone that could get enough analysts to vote for him for the third team Also, Taylor is a big name in stand-up right now, and Slate has been around for long-enough (and has had enough success), that calling her a one time all-star, isn't ridiculous at all
My Comedy Roundtable: 👉Gillis, Normand, Soder, List, Hanley, Mullen etc... Basically an uber Roundtable with The Regz , Protect Our Parks (minus Rogey) & Cumtown ...and throw in whoever else you think I'm missing.
Funny how ramy thinks society has an integrity problem right in the middle of defending the guy making up stories to seem righteous lol sounds like he's got an integrity problem
This is the best you could do for a stand-up comedy roundtable? 🤣 Now THAT'S funny. No Dave Chappelle, Anthony Jeselnik, Chris Rock, Shane Gillis, Nikki Glaser, Mark Normand, Bill Burr, Theo Von, Tony Hinchcliffe, Tom Segura, Andrew Schultz etc.
I'm not familiar with Alex, but literally everyone else there is a standup. They might have done other things as well, but they are all standup comedians.
Art is subject. Especially comedy. I agree Shane is one of the best, but that’s our opinion. This highlights other comics in the field with different audiences and perspective. Ya can’t just listen to one song and one type of music. Ya know 🤷🏾
This table to me was more about ethnic comedians, than off script comedian? Probably the wrong demographic for me. I've never heard of any of these people. Though it was rather boring, I had no reference points for their comedy.
Lol, if you don't know any of the comics on this table then either you're from a different generation of comedy, or you really haven't discovered comedy to the extent you think you have.
You left this comment before the video even came out?? Yikes, your existence is so pitiful. I really hope you find any sense of actual happiness in life to not have you be this waste of mind and space in the world.

It's incredible watching a comedian that it's also introvert, how they take the moment in instead.
Grate table.
Why is Yvonne Orji not actually hosting and facilitating the conversation at the table? I love her and this was a great group to do it with it.
Seriously.
True ! She has that potential to conduct the conversation. She looks really empower !

It's so funny that Ramy also watches those Lebron videos. They're funny as hell.
Our girl Taylor yes!!!!
Taylor Tomlinson! Yay!
Am i the only one that finds Ramy EXTREMELY attractive?
You not alone, his comedy is not only smart but charming which helps but he also like pulls at your heart strings. His style is also cute.
No he’s very attractive
Sure, but I also found the one next to him had an attractive face.
Not at all! He has the cutest smile and prettiest eyes 😍
Wow! Look at all these white people!
And Ramy
These women are hilarious in all of their projects.

Love them all 😍thanks THR
this interview really hits its stride half way through
This needs to be longer. I would pay to see the full unedited (or mildly edited) conversation.
Ramy st 3:20 - we have an integrity problem. A spiritual problem.
Excellent.
Loved Ramy, Lacey, everyone, and the whole discussion ❤
