Cillian Murphy DESERVES that Oscar. End of.
The whole concept of the Oscars is ridiculous. Entirely different movies, different performances, all great for what each film was. Pitting art against itself as a contest is absurd.
He seemed so nervous in this roundtable and was stammering more than usual... He probably can't wait to be done with press and interviews in public!
Yeah sure. & There are also more deserving actors like Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes who never got a single oscar for their terrific performances in movies like Schindler's list. Robbed off. That's how oscars are.
Absolutely. His performance was so natural, didn't feel like an actor playing Oppenheimer, he was Oppenheimer. Love how he kept the performance subtle and quite internal, and didn't make it one of those dramatic Oscar-bait performances. That is what great acting is for me, the actor forgetting himself and becoming his character.

Paul Giamatti the most likeable yet underrated actor of all time. THE GOAT.
Even in this, he was highly charismatic and funny.
All of them are equally likable
Lol no, he’s so annoying
He’s in so many of my favourite films. Incredible actor. And seems like a lovely man!
Andrew Scott seems like such a genuinely nice man and I hope his career keeps taking off after this, I know he has been in the industry for many years but I hope more directors give him leading roles in movies and not only tv shows.
just seeing the thumbnail alone made me do a double take. jeffrey wright in particular has always been one of my all-time favorite actors, and to see him in a conversation with other actors i admire brings me joy. oh, to be a fly on the wall...
His Moriarty in Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch was perfect, hell of an actor
100% agree. I still rember his brief appearance in Band Of Brothers as Cowboy, and of course Moriarty in Sherlock.
His role in Fleabag made such an impact on me… I realize now it’s because his performance was deeply real and beautifully done.
I re watched his episode of Black Mirror the other day and he just gutted me. I was emotionally wrecked. mid episode, incredible performance.
Cillian is super funny (but unintentionally). Oppenheimer is so intense and dark, but upon further rewatches, I realised his character actually had the funniest moments.
That one moment where its exposed he had an affair and hes like "he didnt die of a broken heart cause he never found out" was WILD
I missed it the first time but I laugh at the scene where Oppenheimer is in front of a group and someone wants more info. He glances at Groves and then subtly crosses his legs. In a few scenes earlier, Groves had told him he could talk until he felt Groves foot on a rather delicate body area.
@@shanmantv the way you edited that comment did add a little more of a “this is a real person and real comment” effect. Good job

Rooting for Cillian Murphy to win the Oscar. His performance was so subtle and natural, you could totally forget this is an actor playing a role. It is good to see that this kind of internal performance is getting recognition, not only dramatic Oscar-bait style ones. He clearly is very handsome, intelligent and has a great voice too, hope to see him in more great films in future. I also like how he is just his introverted self in these interviews, not anymore reluctant and disappointed like he was when he was younger, but still himself, not trying to turn into a funny extrovert - there is no need, people on social media seem to love him as he is, and it is good news for all of us introverts too.
Sorry just couldn't stand the fact that you have 420 likes and not a single comment. You described it beautifully!!
🍀🍀🍀🙏🙏🙏 For Cillian Murphy
As an introvert I can relate. Perfectly well said, thank you
Love how Cillian seems to have the same view as Charlie Kaufman regarding art. It's not something you explain. It's something you just show, and the audience will be the one to interpret it as they wish.
i just watched "synecdoche, new york" and that was the exact impression i got from the movie. though i went in blind, i felt as if it just wanted me to feel things and not worry about understanding the ambiguity. such a great experience
Charlie Kaufman??? Really? He is the only one that don't try to explain? It’s really odd to just name him out of nowhere!
Coleman Domingo is such an underrated actor, he's amazing as Strand in Fear the Walking Dead.
Glad he’s finally getting the recognition he deserves!
THANK YOU! I was scrolling through this comment section and was like, NO ONE is gonna give this man his flowers? And then I saw your comment so again, I say thank you.

@@liamphibia And the cheekbones, and the jawline...
Cillian Murphy should get the Oscar for Oppenheimer. I love his sense of containment, self sufficiency and stillness that's such a part of him even here,
it enables him to be a minimalist in front of the camera which the camera loves and which commands the attention of an audience. Andrew Scott is so talented too, both are very understated and real, and have lovely vocal tones - well done Ireland. Delightful and insightful.
Did you like the part where he was self contained so much that he said he wouldn’t be empathetic if it wasn’t for acting? A person who has to be taught empathy is also known as a selfish sociopath

I need Cillian to win that Oscar. That film was an experience and I’ve been obsessed with how perfect it was since I saw it. There were other great performances this year, but that just has to win.
Cillian Murphy: “we’re at the point with AI where it’s like splitting the atom that’s how powerful and scary it is”
Reporter: “whelp! Thanks everyone! Let’s get out of here!”
That ending killed me.
Same!! I was like what a grim way to end an interview 😭 now I'm going to be thinking about that the whole day.
It gives me some comfort to hear famous people expressing the same concerns I’ve been having about this jump in technology. There is an ineffable quality of art that connects humanity, and these attempts to replicate or fuse it with “generative” artificial programming could certainly lead to a slow extinction of artistic pursuit.

I like Murphjy but he's almost certainly going to lose to Tom Holland this year

The talent in that room? Off the charts. Wow!
and on this day at this table…they all fell in love with Cillian Murphy
The interviewer is refreshing in that he allows the questions to not overshadow the table participants. The conversations are natural, pleasant and informative.
Paul Giamatti is a well known actor, but since Billions he's been an absolute master. Colman Domingo is criminally underrated too, absolute star and very amazing actor.
Great actor. I've but everytime I see Giamatti I will always think of him being Chuck Rhodes.
This literally was not long enough. I could have listened to these amazing actors for hours.
I love this kind of discussion. The interaction of nodding heads, laughter, agreeing with, sympathy and success of their project. Being polite and sharing experiences. Bravo😊
All great actors, but Colman Domingo for me has really shown so much range recently. I would love to see him receive more recognition. Cillian is at the top of his game that just can not be denied. I can not see anyone else winning the Oscar this year.
First I thought Cillian was born to play Tommy Shelby but then I realised he was actually born to play Oppenheimer!!!
It makes me beyond happy Cillian is finally getting the recognition he deserves. I've been waiting for him to get this kinda attention for yearssssss now. When it comes to the best lead actor category these days, the academy tends to award mediocrity so I have no faith in them seeing his excellence, but whether he wins the Oscar or not, he will always be the greatest to ever do it.

these guys are all so unassuming, the whole conversation is so easygoing. one of my favorites!
Jeffrey Wright, first noticed him in The Manchuria Candidate and he wasn't the main character but those few scenes he had, his character, his acting was just brilliant!
Nobody ever seems to mention that Giamatti's dad was the commissioner of the MLB and the president of Yale University (and an English professor). He had a fascinating life. (Not saying Giamatti was a nepo-baby at all. He's arguably more successful and talented than his dad. But it is notable.)
i think its fair to say he is
Success is subjective ....there a ton of working actors there are only 23 Yale presidents
I think the MLB commissioner was his uncle.
Well he had a more privileged upbringing than most- that's for sure.
What would be the relevance? Plenty of successful people have successful parents.
Cillian is so beautiful. He is so articulate.

I would be astonished if Cillian doesn’t win his Oscar tbh. I think his performance is solidified best of the year.

Cillian is dead on about Nolan's respect for the intelligence of his audience - Interstellar, Inception, and Tenet were definitely daring you to keep up.
I would say Tenet is more convoluted than intelligent
I’m loving the content and grounded-ness of these round tables and intimate interviews lately. The art that we got in 2023 was just riveting and it’s kind of a treat to see so much thoughtful conversations being had about the nature of art and it’s place in the modern day context. Like Andrew Scott reiterated, story is so intrinsic to the human condition and art is often what we reach for in times of need. Just really grateful getting to see and hear from so many thoughtful artists.
I blinked and it was done. The fastest 40 min. Could listen for another hour. Well done.
I could watch these talks for 2 hours. I wish they were longer! To hear artists of this caliber in conversation is a gift.
Thank you LA Times for gathering some of the best for this roundtable.
One thing that occurred to me as they spoke on Ai was the significance of the movie star. We appreciate actors as they act, but we also love them for who they are outside of their roles, how they are on press junkets, on Instagram, and we love the possibility of seeing or meeting them in person. You could never meet Ai. Hopefully that will uphold the significance of human actors.
Cillian is an extraordinary actor, people who have closely followed his works will know! and the fact that he is so humble and cool says it all, amazing artist with 0 baggage. Great set of actors in the panel, especially Mark, Andrew and Cillian together. I will be happy if Cillian wins the best actor oscar for Oppenheimer! academy should get this right! underrated actors
like Andrew Garfield, Jake Gyllenhall, Michael Fassbender and Willem Dafoe didn't get their due but Cillian should get this time.
My only wish was that I could see the entire unedited version of their discussion. There were so many hints of things discussed, that were for the sake of time edited out. Great roundtable.
Appreciated this interview so much and how well they all mesh and respect each other. Can’t wait to see all the films!
Paul Giamatti and Jeffrey Wright are the most underrated actors in this roundtable. They've been around for AGES, and both have never actually gotten much popularity or prime roles in their careers.
Cillian at least has Peaky Blinders and Nolan movies that have gotten him quite a lot of fame. Ruffalo is a huge actor and Andrew Scott is relatively new and already popular.
Colman Domingo, I'd say is also very underrated, but he hasn't been around as long as Giamatti and Wright. Wright is the even more criminally underrated actor, I feel.
Big agreee
Colman Domingo has been around for years, but he’s just now getting his due.
