Comedy acting Emmy nominees Ricky Gervais (‘Derek’), Don Cheadle (‘House of Lies’) and Will Forte (‘The Last Man on Earth’) join Fred Armisen (‘Portlandia’) and Jordan Peele (‘Key & Peele’), who write and produce their Emmy nominated shows, and actor Thomas Middleditch who stars in the Emmy nominated ‘Silicon Valley’ for The Hollywood Reporter's Comedy Actor Emmy Roundtable where the actors share how and when they learned they were funny.

I was just going to comment this. So true. She keeps it so much more fluid and lets them play off each other more.
It really frustrates me when they have these incredible masters of their craft and cut them off when they start to flow together, probably just ruining what could have been a great nugget of conversation.
The interviewer was great. She did a really good job with controlling the conversations and leading the questions. That's especially hard to do with comedians. And she knew about their careers and comedy in general which is awesome. Round of applause for her.
She also did a nice job keeping things balanced so that even the soft-spoken folks got enough time to talk.

I was impressed when Fred Armisen brought up Alec Guinness in Kind Hearts and Coronets, a British movie from 1949, and the host said "Oh yeah he was great!" so casually.
Controlling some kind comedian's conversation is nothing compared to politicians, believers and conspiracy theorists. The list goes on..
I get you but my preference is to allow more flow in the conversation instead of the focus being on her. Ricky Gervais helped to open up the conversation. Kudos to all.

It’s nice to hear the actors answer seriously with the other interviewer rather be all cosy and pandering to the actors. I feel like I get more serious answers from him and the actors. If you want to see the fun side and jokes then watch all the other million interviews out there.

I love how Ricky Gervais intellectualises comedy. He truly is a master at what he does. And living proof that some of the funniest and most empathetic actors have been through life (worked in an office for 10 years) before they begin performing. Drama school can never replace life experience imo

At first I thought Jordan didn't like Ricky, he seemed to be scowling at him, but I found he's just really attentive to every thing he says.

As a born Londoner I'll say that Ricky is 100% right in what he says about the UK humour. I've worked in a local office setting and government healthcare sector as a support worker and both environments he sets in his shows, the office and on Derek is 100% very relatable to me. That thing about British people supporting the underdog is real talk, then the minute they make it it's like we think....look at that bloody sell out, who does he think he is....type thing lol
After moving to the south (ATX) from living in Milwaukee my whole life, I've learned to use sarcasm and dry humor very sparingly. I'm literally overjoyed when I find someone I can joke like that with down here.
I wish I lived in the UK instead of US. American root for successful people and you can tell by how they joke - fake and feeling superior. I find it hard to make friends here cuz people only tell the truth behind your back. I always tell my husband that I'd feel a lot more comfortable in UK.

She's an excellent host. She should host ALL OF THESE ROUNDTABLES. The little rude weasel who cuts everyone off should be BANNED. This woman is much more cool and respectful and seems to be in the moment with these guys. Great job!
Yeah, there are so many terrible interviewers on UA-cam that the decent ones (like her) really stand out.
I learnt nothing new here. They were all joking and being superficial. The other guy cuts the crap and gets them to talk seriously. I guess everyone who has said what you have are either really young and just want gossip and just see how warm and fuzzy your favourite actors are, whereas the other interviewer cuts to the chase and asks serious questions and gets serious answers where the rest of us can learn something. To see that acting and Hollywood isn’t all fame and money and an easy life.

they seemed really uncomfortable at first, nd Ricky talked a lot, but there was a lot of great things to say,, glad it seemed they all warmed up overtime

+kris lanc Billy Burr is a legend :D. I personally can't stand Ricky. I feel there is so much self hate in him, it pours out and is manifested towards other people. Example: he has weight problems so he takes it out on fat people. He has low self esteem but because he is among the big names he tries to convince himself that he made it. You can see this inner battle in every panel. I would hate to see how he behaves when the camera is off.

This is such a great group of people. Even though Cheadle is not known to be a comic actor, he seems very fun. I love Silicon Valley, Key and Peele and The Office (UK) the most.

+Simon Wilson She did a really good job of paying attention to the few that are more quiet and less likely to hop into the discussion on their own. Every time somebody started to disappear the next question would be directed straight to that person which, after pushing involvement, seeming loosened everybody up, got all perspectives, balanced the scales... made for a very worthwhile hour of viewing. Ricky has the same problem in these discussions or stream of thought process that I have which is make an observation or throw out a thought, critique or observe the observation, reiterate, reiterate, and it just becomes rambling about nothingness. On that note, I'll quit typing... adding only, and re-iterating somewhat, that the host did a good job recognizing it and of making sure his attention was steered correctly. Or something....?

+IRNOEbot I could understand people not knowing who Middleditch is. He's touted as the lead but he's not that much more prominent in screentime than the other people on the show. I don't feel he's getting that much of a boost from the show at all.
I had no idea The Emmy's were contemplating banning Ricky Gervais after hosting the G.G. especially all the times they asked him to host a segment before or after the incident; which is quite ironic now when Ricky Gervais's Emmy Segments are usually the best part of the whole damn award show
Lacey and Stacey, great interviewers, so much passion, empathy and respect for their guests. Huge talent and I love their genuine laughs.

I love how these people know what they're doing and talk about it in a way that you know they have done the homework of studying it properly. So it shows how much they appreciate their job and spend time on quality work. I loved every moment of this interview. THANKS ❤️

this is the best roundtable ever. These guys have great timing and flow, and the host is awesome too. Great timing for her too.
I always love these. The atmosphere and how the conversation flows and is allowed to go down rabbit holes makes great conversations and a look at these acting interacting. Not sure how to pput it in words but I like the feel of these roundtables. Its very interesting, funny, and entertaining
