What I love about this channel is josh travels a lot of economy class like the vast majority off the viewer who wouldn't be able to travel a higher class. So he is giving a useful review. unlike certain other reviews who travel mostly in business or first which is only useful for a tiny amount of ppl who can afford this.

I agree totally. Only 10 to 20 % of the plane capacity is Business or First Class. I would like to see some Premium Economy Class Flight review mad by Josh 🙂 I tried this alternative in Lufthansa and Iberia on my flight from Bogotá (Colombia) to Europe several times and I like it....good service, a lot of space and a decent price...

People who fly economy do not use the lounge unless they pay a lot of money for a one-time entry.

@@michaelreid8857😂 Thank you, UA-cam, for suggesting Josh's channel to me. I like the fact that he's a down-to-earth reviewer, unlike some other reviewers who come across as rather entitled. Most of Qantas’ issues at the moment is related to senior management (and it’s CEO). The actual flights themselves are still fantastic, as we see in this video.

Totally agree. Onboard experience is generally good or great. And if you aren't the one paying for the ticket and therefore interested in value, even better. It's dealing with every other aspect of being a Qantas customer that is so very painful. Also, disagree with Josh's opening remark about Qantas suffering more than any other airline due to the pandemic (unless I misunderstood). Surely overall that would go to Cathay?

Australia completely closed its borders for 2.5 years. Except a handful of repatriation international flights plus domestic travel restrictions in Asutralia, the demand to fly with them hit rock bottom. Assistance from the government is only a short term solution. To make a full recovery they're gonna have to get all their aircraft back in the sky -something they're still trying to accomplish at full capacity.

Flew Heathrow to Perth with Qantas in July, just over 16 hours. Ended up with a middle seat in the middle of the row, but got lucky that the aisle seat was empty by doors close. All your points were echoed on that flight; meals were great, the crew are always doing laps of the cabin, and are just the nicest people, and the IFE is super varied. It's one of few airlines where you get what you pay for at all cabin levels.

On one of my flights the QANTAS crew very politely asked me if I'd agree to move seats (aisle seat to similar aisle seat) so another passenger could sit with his colleague. I had no issue and they gave me 2 Penfolds bottles of wine from the galley and a $100 duty free voucher as thanks. They were so thankful and polite. I've seen other airlines (American) who just rudely tell you to move and that's it. QANTAS is always great to fly on in my 30 years of flying with them.

CEO Alan Joyce sacked hundreds of long serving employees (ground staff, baggage handlers, tug drivers etc) and 'imported' overseas cheaper labour, some of whom, had never set foot on a tarmac before. AJ sold thousands of tickets on non-existent flights, cancelled flights on days of departure, thus causing thousands of traveler's to lose their holiday bookings, reservations etc. Not to mention the saga of lost baggage and refusal to compensate those..Yet he gets paid millions of dollars in wages, has 10 million worth in stocks and will walk away with a $24 million dollar handshake...That's QANTAS QuickAndNastyTypicaAustralianService.

Why would I pay $300+ for 2x flights with a stop over in Sydney (PMQ - SYD on a Dash 8 then SYD - MEL on a 737) and it take around 4 - 6 hours pending on flight schedules. When I can fly with Bonza PMQ - MEL direct for $69 on a 737 and be there with just on an hours flight (PMQ - SYD on the Dash 8 is a 1 hour flight alone). Sure bonza’s a low cost airline but I’ll be more then happy to give up “Full service” to cut 3+ hours off my travel time and save $200+ each way in the process.

Great review Josh as always! I think at the moment Australians are finding it hard to seperate Qantas’s CEO from the airline itself and it’s staff. The airline still offers a great product and every time I fly with them I still feel at home. It is a shame that Alan Joyce has given some of that spirit to the shareholders instead of the country. Hopefully Vanessa (upcoming CEO) will bring the airline back to the people in all aspects.

Great review! I used to fly on the Qantas 787-9 Perth to London flight (16-17h) quite frequently in economy.
I'm not sure if you're aware, but the storage "net" (for lack of a better word) on the back of the chair in front of you is actually designed for your legs to go in... essentially it cradles your legs/calves, and with your seat fully reclined, you'll actually find you will be able to get some sleep. Unlike other airlines with bars/foot-rests that move down, the net stops your legs from slipping/moving during sleep, so you don't find yourself being woken quite as often...

We came to Bangkok from Sydney and stayed here for 3 months (my wife is Thai). We flew economy on a direct flight. I am not fussy about food, but the two meals I had in the 9 1/2 hour flight were the worst I've ever had on a plane. Our return flight is booked for Jan 3. It's via Singapore. We were supposed to wait for a couple of hours for a connecting flight to Sydney, but Qantas changed the second flight twice, and now we have to wait 8 hours in Singapore. No apology. My wife wanted to stay a little longer, so I tried to change our tickets. I had a flexi return ticket so I assumed that, being high season I was going to be charged a couple of thousand Aussie dollars for the change. After waiting a couple of days to get through to their Bangkok office (I couldn't do it online) I managed to talk to a human. I asked to get me a flight two weeks later, I am flexible with dates, and get me the cheapest as I don't mind catching a connecting flight from Singapore. The quote I was given was an additional AU$4,900 each for the return economy flight!!! I've been a Qantas frequent flyer for 40 years... Goodbye Qantas!

that is the effects on aviation of the Jet stream flows. from wikipedia: The location of the jet stream is extremely important for aviation. Commercial use of the jet stream began on 18 November 1952, when Pan Am flew from Tokyo to Honolulu at an altitude of 7,600 metres (24,900 ft). It cut the trip time by over one-third, from 18 to 11.5 hours.[34] Not only does it cut time off the flight, it also nets fuel savings for the airline industry.[35][36] Within North America, the time needed to fly east across the continent can be decreased by about 30 minutes if an airplane can fly with the jet stream, or increased by more than that amount if it must fly west against it.
Associated with jet streams is a phenomenon known as clear-air turbulence (CAT), caused by vertical and horizontal wind shear caused by jet streams.

As a Dane I'm proud of the Opera House, though it became a sad story for its architect, Jørgen Utzon! After a disagreement with the builders, he left the built and never came back. So it is mostly the outside that was his responsibility. I think though that his son, also an architect, has been hired to make it more modern inside. His father still lived when this happened, so they could consult about what to do. The restaurants in the middle is a horrible mix of tubes and glass, as Utzon took his Standard Built System with him when he left, so they had to make a computer program to make plans for the glass.

Thanks, Josh. Very informative. I also travelled SYD-JNB five months ago, also on the QFA 787, QF 63, but up the front of the bus. We also used the QF biz lounge at Kingsford-Smith. I was a little muffed to see in your video that the free galley snack-packs were for economy, as well as business! Our flight route took us much further south into the Southern Ocean than yours; closer to the Antarctic - there was quite a bit of turbulence at that time and I was having a decent chat to the Second Officer whilst we were waiting for the lavatory. At that point he got onto the flight deck phone/intercom and I held onto the nearest pole I could find, for dear life! Obviously it was a very different experience for me than you, but the Dreamliner was a beautiful, new plane with ridiculously quiet engines and the equal-highest climb ratio of any aircraft in 2023 (along with the A350). QANTAS experience was excellent/faultless, wonderful cabin attendants, but one expects that in the upper classes; I have had a couple of shocking experiences with them on BNE-SYD/SYD-BNE, econ, recently, where the aircraft/seats/cabin crew were atrocious, cabin crew unpleasant, extremely rude. QF is in a lot of trouble right now, not financially anymore, but as a result of that awful Alan Joyce. Disgusting that he bailed ship early, but still received a golden handshake of $24 m. Thanks again for the great film, Josh!

Considering the adverse publicity/reputation that Qantas have received over the last few years that looked a pretty good flight, food looked good as did the seat and IFE, good also to hear that the cabin crew were actually looking after passengers throughout the flight rather than hiding in the galley.

@@jon-ie4li Qatar has the same slots as every other international airline that comes to aus if not more. What makes them think they’re so special they’re able to have the same amount of slots as an Australian owned airline. It’s not a piss take, saying Qatar coming to Australia is going to decrease air fares is a load of rubbish. Qatar is one of the most expensive airlines and will only push the fares up. The ceo of virgin only wants Qatar to have more slots because Virgin has an alliance with Qatar. So her whinging to the accc doesn’t mean anything for air fares it’s only money for her back pocket with no change to airfares.
There’s still multiple alternative routes to get out of Australia without flying qantas already without Qatar flying extra flights. Qantas already has enough competition to decrease airfares so not sure why you you think anything would change if Qatar were allowed in aus more frequent.

Interesting video. My last experience of Qantas was back in 2003 - Singapore to London, 747... I'm 183cm tall and was stuck in middle seats of the four (3-4-3). The seat pitch was diabolical and my knees felt awful by the end.
Another flight I did was in 2016, with the, then LAN Airlines, now LATAM, Madrid to Santiago, that was 14 hours and because Chilean people are very short, the seat pitch was also horrendous on the 787-9, that said, the crew were great. I flew back from Chile on Iberia, having upgraded at the last minute, to business, but the flight wasn't enjoyable, as I had serious gastrointestinal illness (haemorrhaging!) managed the flight somehow, but visited the Loo around 35 times!

I can see that those experiences wouldn’t have been comfortable but there are a large number of people your height or over, someone has to sit in the middle seat and I’m sure you would have the same experience, if not worse, in economy on any airline as seat pitch and leg room is pretty standard.

I did the flight from Harare, Zimbabwe on Qantas to Perth back in the good old days, (1991) on the then newish 747-400 in Seat 72A right at the back on the port side. There were only 2 Seats and I was alone. But at least the drinks flowed and I still smoked back then so you could still smoke aswell. In fact I still had a drink in my hand when we landed in perth! (Vodka and Coke). Also got to go up and sit in the Flightdeck for a couple of hours in the Jumpseat right behind the Pilots who weren't much older than me! (ex-RAAF) So that broke up the flight nicely.
But the nice thing was at Harare there weren't any Airbridges so you walked all the way from the Terminal, (which was still the old one back then - which is now the Domestic Terminal) right up[ to this MONSTER of an aircraft - I still get goosebumps today just thinking about it! It was amazing!
Buut it was a great flight..... Loved it! Service was first class! (I still have the Ticket).
    Thanks Qantas!
