It is not real security check and you don't come to air side. It is like in several other countries, there is a pre security check before you can enter the airport building and come to the arrival area or the check in. Same is in Turkey for example. The real security control to come to air side is later.

      Romans 6.23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
      John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
      Mark 1.15
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
      2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
      Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Hi Josh, I had the pleasure to work in and out of Moscow and St Petersburg for 20 years. I saw the good and bad of the country within this time. The architecture, museums and as you said the Metro is stunning in Moscow as well as St Petersburg. The people I worked with were amazing, but sadly we lost the office over what has happened.
You are right, Moscow is a bucket list city, in Winter as well as summer.
If I remember, the Raddison where you stayed is part of Stalin Sisters, which are 7 near identical buildings around the city. I used to stay in the Hilton Leningradskaya which was also one of the sisters. The hotel was just amazing, we stayed there a lot and even received an invitation to the staff party which is something that I will never forget.
We always flew BMI (back in the time) and then British Airways in and out of DME and then the Sapsan train up to St Pete's. The BA crew were not allowed off the aircraft, so it was one of the longest working days for them within the BA fleet.
It was always interesting going in and out of immigration, even with a full working visa sanctioned by them...!
Happy Travels , your vlog brought back a lot of fond memories.

That was the so called "Afghan landing" - 90s-00s were a rough times for Russia and it's military so many military pilots and Afghan veterans were working in civil aviation in that time. "Afghan landing" is exactly the nose down landing to shorten the plane's exposure to the short ranged fire from the ground before it could land on a safe area (it was particularly important for the cargo IL-76 planes because it can land on dirt/rough terrain - so it wasn't necessarily an airport or aerodrome in Afghanistan where it had to land quickly and don't get under fire)

I just returned home to California from Moscow a few days ago, around the same time this video was made. It was my fourth visit since February 2022 and my experiences were similar on the Aeroflot flight I flew between Moscow and Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Last week, upon exiting the country, I was taken back for a 30 minute "interview" at passport control. Completely understandable given the terrorist bombings that have occurred in Russia and the lethal aid being supplied by the West. It's worth noting that, unlike the EU and US, which harass Russian visitors extensively even before the invasion, and now make visa issuance to them or entry all but impossible in many cases, Russia has kept its doors wide open to Western visitors. In four visits and more than six months of aggregate time there in the last two years I've not had a single negative experience. Such incidents at passport control and others mentioned are small inconveniences compared to the wonderful experiences that await. Nice video Josh!

You mean that the state that is at war is exchanging fire with country they're at war with? Wow, who would expect that, maybe if russia didn't start this war.
Also, explain harassment, what kind of, in what way. Russia right now is terrorist country, increased and more frequent searches of their citizens are obvious. Not to mention the fact that even before the war, russians were the main ethnicity caught smuggling tobacco, drugs, and were involved in all matter of illegal trade, to name a few. So I don't see anything surprising in the increased searches at border crossings and airports.
Let's also add disrupting GPS communications over european countries, spreading disinformation, attacking civilians in european countries, especially refugees from Ukraine, without reason (like the case from last year, 2 adult russians beating up to death a 12yo boy, because he was speaking in Ukrainian).
If your (not your your, I'm talking vabout russians) citizens abroad and your government behave like a bunch of drunk gopniks, don't be surprised if they are treated like a bunch of drunk gopniks.

In Russia, the planes are not "stolen". You misunderstood the situation. The plane was leased, but the leasing company illegally, contrary to all agreements, wanted to steal these planes from Russian airlines. Naturally, Russian airlines did not obey this illegal action. These aircraft legally changed their registration. There is no "fake" registration in Russia. In Russia, registration is original and real.

Hey Josh, I wasn't expecting a trip to Russia from you at this time, with all this war going on between Ukraine and Russia, for me it's disconcerting, I don't think I would have chosen this time to visit Russia. Anyway Aeroflot, believe it or not they are why I fell in love with Aviation, I was four years old at the time and they were flying the soviet Illushin IL84 I think the model was and at the time they were operating through Dubai, then onwards to Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport. It looks like a B727 but longer, My first ever flight was with them from SEZ-LHR via DXB and SVO. I have vague memories, it's good to see them still flying. Of course I do not remember much about that trip just that I fell in love with Jet aircraft's from that day on. Your situation reminds me of one of my trips in Qatar back in 2017 during the big issues of sovereignty and the whole issues with UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt. I was literally scared after seeing what they were showing in the media about Qatar citizens in panic and the whole problems, but media being the media, It wasn't the case, arriving in Doha there were no such things going on, it was business as usual. So not everything in the media is 100% truthful. The A320 itself, even though it may have been quoted as " Stolen" who says that Aeroflot is not looking for ways to set things right with that Irish firm. It's also good to see that they have an elevated service for a 2hour flight, at least people won't complain they are hungry on the flight, so kudos to SU for that. And it seems even if there is that war going on at least the service is good, though I have heard that the crew could sometimes be racist, if its true they need to work on that.

It's kind of funny to read you. The war is not in Russia, but in Ukraine. Russia is one of the safest countries in the world.

Aeroflot is the OLDEST airline in the world, do you know that!? It's business as usual in Russia, just like it has always been when the US and NATO bombarded Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Afghanistan, Serbia and the list is long. So get off of your high horse and get real.

Hey. I'm Russian and American citizen and I was also held up at the border for an hour. Apparently it's a pretty common event for Russians now and they've (our border guards) have become extremely anal the last year or so. Thanks for flying there even though you didn't want to.

Did you fly to the US post 911? They still are anal. Russia is at conflict with the western scums, so need to be vigilant as they should.

Hey Josh, welcome to Russia! Thank you for your message about the dark side of many countries around the world, It's very refreshing to hear a Westerner say this after the demonization that Russia, her government, and her people have been subject to for over two years.
As a Russian repatriate with family members living abroad, travelling has become quite a bit more expensive; I used to fly to my other home country for roughly $350-450 for a round trip back in the day. Now the same flight would take me twice as long and cost north of $600, often significantly so.

It would have been different if he had publicly criticised the Russian government or the war in Ukraine. That's a freedom people don't have there anymore.
