"If it feels good, and you can achieve your goals, it is correct" I wish more teachers and mentors would say this. There's such a thing as troublesome method and practice, but if you achieve your goal you're doing it right. That's a like from me
I disagree. Drummers can accelerate wrist decay by holding the palms facing sideways. Palms should face the ceiling, it's more natural movement, less strain, and more efficient. There is a legitimate reason for these 'troublesome' techniques. Thankfully I've never experienced fried wrists but plenty of drummers have, so why start out from the get-go with a bad habit?
@@warrengamameilhardin hadn't even considered that but it's a really good point. Guess there's usually a good reason for it when people stick to one method like this, experts tend to know what they're talking about. Thank you for explaining it, I never would have known.

Hi Shane, thank you so much for you nice words! You are absolutely right. No ones ever good enough to not go back to the foundations and work on the rudiments. Have a great day!

Not sure about superb technique... his traditional grip is a tad weak. No hating here, but most any intermediate corps-style player could out-drum him, rudimentarily. I was lucky to learn the 26 standard rudiments in 1971 at the age of 9. When I turned 11 my mom bought Spectrum by Billy Cobham. I had that whole album mentally transcribed by the age of 11. They help you figure stuff out real quick.

It's been 57 years since I last played in a D&B corps. This review of all the rudiments is terrific. It's a great way to start learning to play the drums.

I was in drum corps twice on the snare line as a teenager and played drum kit for 53 years as a pro. I also teach and we only had 28 rudiments back in the day. Frank Briggs has an excellent video out since the 80's, but your video is great! This type of rudiment work improved my time behind the drum set as well. Great job! Go DCI
Iv been drumming for 14 years. iv decided I need to devote at least an hour a day for 3 months to work on these. I hope it improves my drumming and my left hands when I take it to the whole kit. I have not done these rudiments since high school band class. The hardest things is the double strokes with my left hand really hoping next months I can get my left as good as my right.
Oh it will help believe me. Especially the flam rudiments if you do them on the tom toms as well. For the rolls, add in the hi hat foot and kick drums at the same time and go from single stroke quarter note to double stroke eight note to double stroke sixteenth note to double stroke thirty second note - and then repeat backwards while keeping kick drum on one and three and hi hat foot on two and four. It sounds complicated but it's not if you start slow and build up.
thank you.. i just got a practice pad and a snare stand today, and while i was reading through some books with rudiments, i ventured off to youtube instead.. your lesson is definitely very helpful and will be a great resource to keep on coming back to.. definitely subscribed..

wow I am 73 yrs old and was in a drum and bugle corp when I was 16. I learned some rudiments back then in which I never forgot even though I didn't play the snare drum. I've been wanting to learn these rudiments so I can learn drum solo's. Thanks for the lessons.
I am just starting out on the drums and have watched multiple videos on rudiments. This is by far the clearest and best lesson I've seen until now especially because you also talked about hand technique and grip before even doing the first exercise. Thank you man! Also Grüße aus Bayern!
I bought a pair of sticks from a Op Shop for $5 and I'm ready to go. I'm glad I stumbled across your channel only after the 3rd attempt. What luck! I thought I was going to have to spend hrs sifting through lots of BS, ego, waffle, promos, advertising and everything else that stops a person who just wants to learn. This is exactly what I was after. Thank you.
Really like this presentation! I learned rudiments by rote with slightly different sticking. Good to know and moves me to take another look. Thanks for new challenge!
Dude this is amazing. I wanna make videos just like you one day. Lol. I've been drumming for awhile, but i needed a rudiment refresher. I came for rudiments and left with that and more technique tips!!!! You really said, "If you don't like the rudiments, you can feel free to return them free of charge. But keep the technique turorials as OUR FREE GIFT!!!! 😁👍🏾" You a real one fam. You the type of teacher that people come to for a class and leave with life lessons frfr.
I’m a beginner and have just started on drums - apart from studying music and playing guitar for 10 years, I’m having so much more fun on drums lol - I guess it’s good to start here? Fantastic lesson I’ll be working my way through it :)
When I was 9 there were 26 rudiments. I learned them all plus a few solos. when I turned 11 my mom got me a new record by Billy Cobham. I set up my drums and figured it all out by my knowledge of rudiments. when I was 15 Cobham came to our practice since he knew a horn instructor that he marched with in the Hurricanes.
Fantastic lesson. You take it off the page of my drum book and make the notation real for my ears. Thank you for mixing the notation in with your examples. It helps me get my ears and my eyes working with the sound of my strikes.
Excellent video, thanks. I really appreciate the concise explanation of the sticking techniques and the patterns, should keep me busy for at least a year! Great hands dude.
I decided this year I need to really improve my drumming and start working on stick work on a pad. Rudiments are something i keep meaning to work on, but never get round to as its not easy to find free resource online in a comprehensive and informative package. This video is just that and straight to the point. I will be using this from now on to develop my sticking and speed. Many thanks for taking the time to create and share this valuable information.
Thank you so much for this really well made video. It's so hard to have my young students practicing these on their own, but this is a good way to encourage them. AND I REALLY appreciate the fact that it's at a playable tempo which easy to follow and understand clearly. I live in Quebec city, Quebec, Canada
Hi there and thank you for your kind words. It's always hard to encourage young students to work on their rudiments. I struggle with it every time.. haha
Excellent video. I must admit, your accent forced me to listen more closely, and as a result, I’m retaining a lot more. I learned something about myself today.
Great video man, you're really helpin me out. I just recently started learning how to play snare so i could do indoor percussion in my music program and this is a great way to practice at home. Plus no one knows im doing indoor except the director and so far hes been impressed how far ive come in my 2 weeks so far. Keep it up man
Greatly enjoyed this. Started on drums in 2000 and really haven't done any work on rudiments since that first year. Had a blast playing along/re-learning/learning this stuff.

Very cool.. Welcome back!
Can't overstate how well this video is made. Clear and concise. Provides transcription and examples to see, but also clear audio to hear.
This video should be viewed by a lot of other teachers who need to polish their teaching techniques. This is professional quality teaching.
Your channel has taught me more than all the other channels I looked through combined. Thanks for being a great teacher
Looks like I picked the correct channel to commence my drum journey 🙏🏼
wow I am 73 yrs old and was in a drum and bugle corp when I was 16.
Fantastisch ! Das ganze Sortiment vorgestellt . Das ist die Basis für alles andere , der Rest ist Intuition . Great !
So kind of you to share the pdf! Much appreciated, your videos are extremely helpful to this dedicated beginner.
Hi Matthew, it's great to hear that you enjoy my videos. Thank you for watching!
You a real one fam. You the type of teacher that people come to for a class and leave with life lessons frfr.
Excellent! I needed this! - Dankeschön, dass Du Dir die Mühe gemacht hast. Das wird mich ein gutes Stück weiterbringen ^^ - Grüße aus Wolfsburg
This is one of the best explanations, holy crap. Deserves so many more likes
I’m a beginner and have just started on drums - apart from studying music and playing guitar for 10 years, I’m having so much more fun on drums lol - I guess it’s good to start here? Fantastic lesson I’ll be working my way through it :)
Brilliant. Thank you. Getting back into drumming after very many years. I never learned rudiments properly before so this is a huge help now.
Fantastic. I can't imagine a more concise explanation.
glad to hear that.. Thank you for watching.
wonderful lesson
Wow - I can only imagine how much work went into making this video! Very well done, and thank you!
Oh yes, this is by far the most intense video I did so far. Thanks for checking it out!
One of my favourite and most watched videos ever.
Excellent video, thanks. I really appreciate the concise explanation of the sticking techniques and the patterns, should keep me busy for at least a year! Great hands dude.
Thanks a lot, bro! Have a fun!
this is the best video I have seen showing how to turn the sticking into the correct rudiment sound
You are awesome....I think your 40 tricks will make a perfect drummer.
Thanks a lot!
Really glad I could help you, my friend!
you are great, thanks for giving us some of your precious time and teach us these great lessons!
You are very welcome, thank you for stopping by!
Starting with a basics is a sign of a professional instructor. Never skip the basics
Thanks for the video, I have heard of the paradiddle diddle but never could nail it. This was great.
Thank you for stopping by, really appreciate it!
Very clear and concise instruction - waffle free and effective
Thank you , These are clear and very helpful exercises. A nice share indeed!
Thank you, Anna!
Single stroke seven sounds like something we would use in the Highland Pipe Band i used to be with. I played the tenor drum
I struggle with it every time.. haha
Just the exact video I was looking for. Thank you and God bless!
This is UNREAL! GREAT VIDEO! 👍 THANK YOU 🙌
Probably the most informative and well presented instructional vid on the rudiments - very impressed and I learned a lot, thank you
Excellent video. I must admit, your accent forced me to listen more closely, and as a result, I’m retaining a lot more. I learned something about myself today.
So comprehensive and clear - this video will help me so my much in my learning journey. Thank you!
Great job! You packed so much value into such a short amount of time!
Thank you very much, Susan!
i love how thorough this video is
Thank you Mike!
A very helpful sticking techniques while doing essential Rudiments!
What if we try to take those rudiments to the practice pads of our videos?
Brilliant exercises, so clear and precise, but a lot to take in, practice and patience is all that's needed.
This is a great educational video.
Thanks for sharing your practice and work!
Take care,
AJ
Thanks a lot for stopping by AJ, really appreciate your support!
Returning to drums after a 30 year break. I used to find the rudiments tedious but what a great guide - now I love practicing them.
That was excellent! Thanks for a very precise and uncluttered presentation.
A phenomenal instruction to fundamental 40 basisc rudiments nobody could have done beter then this guy!! Wow! Awsome instruction. Thank you sir!!!
Great video man, you're really helpin me out. I just recently started learning how to play snare so i could do indoor percussion in my music program and this is a great way to practice at home. Plus no one knows im doing indoor except the director and so far hes been impressed how far ive come in my 2 weeks so far. Keep it up man
That is great to hear, my friend! Thanks for watching.
Greatly enjoyed this. Started on drums in 2000 and really haven't done any work on rudiments since that first year. Had a blast playing along/re-learning/learning this stuff.
Very good presentation, thanks. Excellent production. I'm starting right at the beginning so info on holding sticks is appreciated.
