bro, you need to crimp the lug connections, that's a fire waiting to happen.
Having done a few battery relocations just a couple tips. 1) put some sort of split loom on the power wire or even cut heater hose to help insulate it from any sharp metal. A short to ground on that cable will cost you a car. 2) I worry what will happen to that battery in an accident, think hitting a wall head on at 80mph, you don't want a 40lbs battery flying around or at you. Keep up the work an learning, don't let peoples comments get you down, we all learn somehow. 👍

If you hit a wall head on at 80 you'll die. You should run the cable underneath the car in car it shorts it won't light your carpet and stuff on fire
Yeah gotta agree on mounting battery itself. I mounted battery through floor with the usual battery hold down .platic box is just a cover really
I just put a fuse any short to ground will blow the fuse and save your car
Two thumbs up for “Build, not bought”. Missing an in-line fuse, a separate grommet for the firewall, insulated clamps to secure the cable in the car, stronger battery anchors to ensure the battery doesn’t break lose, and under hood terminal finesse.

Sweet deal, Trav! You definitely got me considering the relocation. I do appreciate my trunk space, but those 25 lbs going from front to back and lower is a pretty significant difference!

For real! Some great feedback. Josh Wolff mentions how there is excess space in the box for the battery to move. Are you gonna pad that down?
Yeah I’m going do something like that to wedge it for now or use my old battery tie down and attach it some how
Update! I secured the battery in the box last night with the battery tie down. I drilled 2 holes in the bottom of the box and used the tie down to secure the battery to the box itself.

Your welcome! Yeah it took me some time to figure out what I needed and just how to go about it. Check the comments there are some good suggestions for extra safety features. Since it came out I already made some updates. I used the stock battery tie down to secure the battery to the box since the box is bigger then the battery. I also added a rubber battery terminal cover to the power junction under the hood.

Whats up! Did this same thing to the wrx couple years ago over the winter. Couple things i noticed :). I know you mentioned it but i would vent that battery with a vent tube so gases dont build up. While i tihnk its overkill on a small battery its a legit issue and you might get dinged for it on inspection. Also you never know when you want the windows up (rain). The other thing is i would add a 150 amp fuse near the battery in case that long run shorts on the body somewhere. Also for track inspection might check if you need a kill switch readily visible/usable.
Thanks for the tips Mark! I was thinking about using a tube for the gases but the box isn’t air right so I wasn’t sure of the point of that. I will look into the fuse but I haven’t had any shorts since I done it. I have been thinking about asking the track I go to about their regulations.
cool yea the box i used was the moroso which is air tight. got a crazy deal on it from amazon warehouse. if anything you could always throw in a deka agm battery etx20 for example for the gas or spill issue. the fuse is just extra precaution if over time the wire rubs through or an accident cuts it to prevent the short and burning the car down.
Just verified with the Firm they only require that the battery be securely mounted. Other tracks in the future not sure. Do you know if optima or odyssey batteries release gases?
i run the deka etx30 for the size (cranking amps and amp hours) as i still drive it around when its nice but the agm's do not release gases you could run the deka etx14 or 20 from the looks of the battery you you have now. cheaper than odyssey and if i recall odyssey uses east penn whom makes deka anyway. i had optimas in our main suv's but have gone away from them since they moved manufacture to mexico but i still run agm's. from what i have researched agms dont like heat so being in the trunk prolongs thier life. as always just my take on personal experience and research :)

If you put it to the right side of the truck it helps displace your weight on the left side of the car
The 25lb battery isn’t doing much to displace my 225lb body. I’m more about moving weight toward the rear as there is so much weight upfront.
You didn’t have to cut a hole in the box for the positive and negative the lid has two places that are in them 2 bulges on top to compensate for your positive and negative wires. I bought same kit for my e.g. hatch . Unless you want to do it differently . Nice install

I don't think that in general battery located on side of trunk isn't that much of an safety issue as cars like BMW e39 came from a factory with battery located in right side of trunk. Of course engineers have thought it out before deciding to do it that way. Anyway love the channel, love just watching how your cars get better and your skills get better

Those screws surely arent whats supposed to hold all that in place? Aren't u meant to drill holes and boly the box to the boot?

Since I'm running my battery and fuse box inside the car where the glove box is, would I be able to use that same set up and mount that positive wire inside on some metal bracket??

So you're replying on the heat shrink and "a pretty snug fit" to hold those wires in the wire lug?
I wouldn’t recommend my method but I have had zero problems with it.

The battery didn't seem like it fit tight in the box, what are you using to keep it from sliding around? How did the hole in the box end up looking like that?!
I was just careless when drilling plus it needed to be pretty big for the cable ends to fit though.

I liked how u connected the battery up front with a post so u can jump it from the front & rear. Bit u didnt show the ground location. I think im going to connect mine to the block anyway.
You have to connect the negative to the body so it will ground properly. Do not connect it to the engine block.

Good video, but I almost follow the same steps to relocate, but one problem:- it is a little bit difficult to start the motor, I have checked the battery and starter motor was fine, anyone can advise me, thanks
It would most likely be due to bad connection between the power cable coming from the boot to the pre-existing starter power supply that was originally attached to the battery...check your connections at that point, and also make sure the cable you're running from the boot to the front is thick enough to supply enough current for the starter (adding a longer length of cable to a circuit, as you do when moving a battery away from components to the boot, means higher resistance).

Not being an ass, but if you would have mounted that power terminal on the back side of the strut housing it would have cleaned up your engine bay a tad more. Either way 👌🔰
That was my intention starting off but it gets complicated because there was no pre drilled hole on the shock tower. Fitting a power drill into the spot wasn’t working to make a new hole. This is a good spot for now. I could probably relocated it if I do an engine swap later.

Mine is a daily in i just put my battery in the trunk and will be buying a non gas releasing battery.
I have it on the rear passenger side by the rear lights, I'm 230 lbs so I'm already off setting the weight way more to the left. 😆
lol didn't even think of that! I guess it's best on the passenger side then for that reason unless you have an F1 style center seat swap haha

i see a lot of things i liked from this video but all the videos i have watched nobody covers or even does battery venting the is a reason why battery are put under the hood so the gasses the battery release are not in the cabin because they are toxic even car batteries that are located in the truck on stock cars have a vent tube hooked into the side of the battery for gasses i hope you at least up graded to a battery that does not give off these gases
I’m pretty sure I mention it. I have to run the car with the windows down on track. I’m not worried about the gasses. Because of that. I’ll upgrade the battery eventually and change the set up.
But why? What benefit do you get from it?
Probably won’t be huge difference but it makes a cleaner engine bay and moves weight lower down and to the back. More balanced overall

You used cheap sheet metal screws to hold the battery strap ? Thats an accident waiting to happen. Weight of battery vs sheet metal screws. Might as well used tennis shoe strings.

Refine Movement so you decided to destroy a perfectly good battery box that is meant to keep your battery dry and secure, because you didn't want the wires coming out the top? I think you just didn't know the cables went in the top, and are now trying to defend your mistake. You could have at least drilled a proper sized hole and use the grommets you bought. Sorry for the harshness, but when people put videos on UA-cam showing how to do things wrong it really pisses me off. All you are doing is spreading disinformation, you are literally making people dumber. If you're not going to do something right, then don't do it at all! I'm not even mentioning the fact that you didn't crimp or solder the terminal on the starter and fuse cables. Shit man don't show people how to half ass stuff.
