Another Crab's Treasure Story & Ending Explained

- Another Crab's Treasure is a new soulslike game from Aggro Crab. You play as Kril, a little hermit crab whose whole world is turned upside-down when his shell gets repossessed due to taxes. He has no idea what taxes are.
The story for Another Crab's Treasure follows Kril has he tries to get his shell back and find out what is going on in the world outside of his reef. The themes of the game deal with Exploitation, Capitalism, and Pollution. I really loved the worldbuilding, lore, and story of Another Crab's Treasure and hopefully you will too!

As an environmental science major, absolutely LOVED the messaging of this game. Really glad it’s making some headlines, people need a wake up call.
As a conservationist I didnt, anyone that works at the countryside knows either conciously or unconciously that the best answer to the tragedy of the commons is private property, and governments are inefficient at best, and detrimental at worst, the "greta thunberg" mentality in my country only serves to replace burned down forests with windmills for the green lobby, as they are the only ones that can legally do something with them
@@Mrlighthouse1000yeah, they basically up and said capitalism was behind all the pollution and corruption. Ironic because one of the main polluters nowadays is a communist country. Such a tunnel visioned way of thinking. The problem is not capitalism, it would end up being the exact same in any other system just with different people getting power and thus corrupted just like the capitalist billionaire.
The problem is human nature. We are not blank slates. We are naturally selfish creatures that under the right conditions can all become monsters.
Tyrants will always form if you give anyone too much power, and in this case, its the billionaires. Before we had modern capitalism it was the tyrant king. And in the big government alternatives, communism and socialism, it is the government.
@@Mrlighthouse1000 Cringe.
@@Mrlighthouse1000 So "as a conservationist" you dislike the message of "we need to stop polluting the ocean" .....why exactly?? Did the game tell us to follow Greta Thunberg somewhere? Wtf man.
@@oskarikarkkainen5606 i didnt like the anticapitalist themes, ive seen green lobbyists and leftist activists destroying the enviroment before under the pretext of protecting it
my country is filled with windmill fields built over burned down forests, and this is because they are the only ones that can legally build in that terrain, and local people cant legally mantain patches of land because of regulations promoted by those lobbyists and subsidized activists
Imagine if there was an achievement for not killing the snail and letting him follow you through out the game, like the immoral snail riddle
Oh man I need this as a mod. Make it so he insta-kills you if he gets you 😂
The somehow still alive snail
Its sadly probably to late
I'm kinda disappointed it didn't unlock some sort of new mode where the snail constantly chases you throughout all the levels and if it touches you you instantly die.
I love how in the end, even though Kril got his shell back he realizes that he can never go back to the life he once lived because he's not that person anymore, so he leaves his shell to the shelless hermit crab, and continues to adventure without it.
Something I like a lot about the game is krill’s loss of innocence and growing anger. It’s a character arc that’s very unique, and is quite fitting for a souls game.
Given how Aggro Crab’s last game, Going Under, also had such heavy and obvious anti capitalist themes in it, I shouldn’t be shocked One Crab’s Treasure should also be heavily anti capitalist.
Haven’t played Going Under! So this is my first Aggro Crab experience.
I mean, one of the main antagonists in Roland has the title of “Venture Crabitalist”, so by all means take that as you will
@@loafofgodlybread9225 alley ooh- aw shit
The Snail at the beginning reminds me of a disgruntled gas station employee on a quick cigarette break
Something I noticed is that it seems firths weapon during the final boss is a literal silver spoon…
So uh…. Yeah.
Just watched it back and holy crap you’re right 😂
I honestly thought that it was just an opposite to kril's fork
I think firth is basically like a second krill that fights you to test your skills
I got so hyped when he pulled it to him like thors hammer knowing it was gonna be a fire mirror match
Watching this back I love how my run of Another Crab's Treasure involves me putting on increasingly dumber outfits.
Lol btw Voltai is easily beaten with a rubber band (it negates electrical damage or effects)
@@Pkhemi WHAT
Why did you coconut mall me
@@NotFrickingNick yea i found that out after beating her normally
You can use rubber ducky shell too and it works the same as a rubber band
I think the Loan Shark was really Prawnathan and it is not talked enough.
Yeah that’s definitely the implication because when he sees you he’s like “oh crap not this guy again”
You can also see the loanshark half buried in the back of Prawnathans shop, I just noticed him before beating the final boss lol
Yeah he has the same theme play when you enter his shop
Taking Kril behind his shop, he sees the shark toy there. It's completely obvious the entire time.
I notice that scanning that code leads me to the video that You Get Coconut Malled. I thought that it would lead you to get rick rolled but you get Coconut Malled instead. Also I did beat the game and I didn't find that QR Code so thank you for that
Anytime, I got Coconut Malled so I was legally obligated to do so to you through this video 😊
@@NotFrickingNick should have told us it was an entry to a giveaway
There is a stowaway called rubberband that you can find in the factory which makes you immune to electric attacks. Making voltai's hairdryer, adapter and the attack where she bursts from the wall do literally nothing, making her the easiest boss in the game. I personally am guilty of using the glock though, i didn't know storywise i have to come back to the cannibal crab later so i tried to beat him straight away and i got angry
...cuz in the end...the love you take is equal to the love you make...yeah...we eatin seafood today!...lol...
This is already one of my favourite games this year. I’m up to Roland and played up to their without spoilers, but decided to see what was left. Jesus do I just feel like pulling the gun on him at this point because he’s incredibly difficult to learn as a boss fight. Either way, I can’t wait to keep going, Inkerton looks like a phenomenal boss that I’d enjoy the hell out of
Roland was tough! I just spammed parry and got lucky 😂 Inkerton, Heikea, and Topoda were probably my favorites.
Use lil red cup self repair and parry the most u can and concentrate on res and atk
5:28 The sands between.
I see what they did there
Fun fact! You can actually take an alternate route through the Old Grove and fight “The Consortium” and gain access to Flotsam Vail without encountering Inkerton!
…how do I know this? I did it myself :)
Cool, I assume that’s where the line leads to that’s kind of on the west side of Floatsam! Consortorium and maxing out my fork are my last two achievements I need for 100%
Added to my library! Thank you!
Happy to help!
9:08 the magic wand is crazy 💀
I about died laughing when she whipped it out and giddily exclaimed "I don't even know what this does!"
@NotFrickingNick for some reason, I doubt that she doesn't know 😂
It's a massage machine (I think)
@@user-eh8yd6vs4u Well, you can call it that
What is the chance that I was watching someone playing this game and I got this video in my recommendation? Anyways great vid!
Thanks!
Great video! Loved plaything through this one and adding it to my 100% list 👍
Nice! I have 2 more bosses to hunt down then I gotta find every shell. After that I’m going to go back and do Voltai and Firth without a gun 😂
The video made my day thank you and you definitely deserve a follow❤
Thank you and welcome aboard 😊
9:00 Nani tf also ty for making this video I was wondering what the story for this would be
No problem! It’s a fun game and an interesting story. And yeah when Voltai whips it out she’s like “I don’t even know what this is!” 😂
Voltai fight Just get esier wen you get Rubber band, and "navalha" The blade item, and a Love her design, this game was awesome
2:05 oh wow a going under reference, wait is this game made by the same devs?
oh shi- agro crab actually showed up it totally is made by the same devs
also inkerton is a reference to the pinkertons who are known for union busting and magic the gathering cards
Well done, fantastic video!
The game surpassed my expectations. Yet another indie game proving why indie games are truly superior to AAA. I couldn’t put the controller down.
Just ELEVEN PEOPLE made this, it’s insane
@NotFrickingNick, WOW
Krill looks like mrcrabs
This game is Mr. Krabs Origin Story
for the electric eel you can be immune to the electric attacks by using the rubber band or a rubber duck
Fucking coconut mold by the QR code
Hearing other people's experience with this is interesting. I honestly struggled the most with Pagurus out of any other boss while I considered Voltai the easiest out of them all
end game music was tranquil
Why is this game funny
don’t know if this is just purely for editing purposes but, when you killed prawnatahn at the end it looks like you still had a low level fork, you can use the stainless relics (keys) found in the game to upgrade your fork at the blacksmith in new carcinia at the under area
I think I had upgraded it 3 times before this point? Maybe only twice. I put this video out the day after the game released so towards the end I just kinda rushed it with parry windows increased to make it a little easier. Then I went back and played it legit and 100%d it :)
It’s funny how many angry reaganomics-loving bootlickers are coming out of the woodwork here
I thought “Capitalism has its flaws and can’t exist without exploitation of people and the planet” was like a pretty universally-acceptable statement but here we are lol
Learned that the perfect whole got no ability
Welp.
[inhales]
*casually screaming infestation from terraria calamity*
8:58 that's just a back massager, dude. I think so, at least.
It’s not the back that it’s meant to massage I can assure you of that
@@NotFrickingNick oh no wait a second
Why did you have a shell that’s a red among
us
You buy it at Shellfish Desires and it actually came in clutch cuz it can drop a smokescreen and I used it to avoid giant laser-shooting crabs.
Should I watch this video now. or should I get this game and after I beat it I then watch the video?
Up to you! It’s a really good story so if you want to go into it unspoiled this video will still be here :)
There’s stowaway item called rubber band that makes you immune o electric
“The absolute worst thing you can do is nothing” except that runs entirely counter to the actions of Krill in this game. At two points in this game Krill acts on anger and makes things significantly worse for those around him. The second of which has literal apocalyptic implications for the residents of New Carcinia. Surely “doing nothing” is better than spurring a literal apocalyptic event.
if he did nothing the entire trash island would completely bury new carcinia
@@zGoldenHawk he did something and not only is the city buried under trash island anyway, he also destroyed the only immediate fix to the problem in a fit of childish rage.
@thricecreamcone yeah but the island was blown into chunks imagine how much more damage the trash island would do if it weren't in chunks
What sucks is we can make movies we can make games. We can talk about it but knowing how humanity is they’re not gonna change….. I’m not saying it’s a lost cause….. but it’s annoying that when you try to change something that’s when greedy people want to stop you
I will leave a like and sub for now. Then come back after I beat the game 😂
Edit: Just wow, just wow. This games ending was insane. Vibrator eel was the funniest thing. And the writing during the abyss. 👌
Going from this game to Little Kitty Big City is a trip ngl
How is the eel boss hard just grab lil red cup and a few puffer qwils and beat the shuck out of the eel
Nice story about capitalism and pollution
Thanks for summing up the plot and making the messages the game wanted to convey relatively easy to understand. It was clear from the get-go that environmentalism and critique on capitalism were the main themes of this game's story, but what really stuck out for me personally was its take on violence.
When that snail at the beginning started attacking me, I immediately reacted by swinging back only to realize a few seconds later that I could have just decided to run away. Instead, I killed a non-zombified being with human-like (or, in this case, crab-like) intelligence, and to rub in the meaninglessness of my impulsive behavior, the shell it left was too small for me to wear, meaning that I didn't even benefit from my brutal action. I just sat there for a whole minute and then decided not to let this death go to waste by promising to the dead snail that from this point on until the end of the game I would be very careful about where I'd swing my fork at and avoid violence wherever possible, a promise I was reminded of by Nemma when she pointed out the horrific nature of fighting against other sea-creatures when talking to her in the Expired Grove.
I just finished the game for the first time, but technically speaking, I didn't finish it at all. When the prompt for attacking the pawn owner appeared, I was awestruck. I was instantly reminded of my promise, searched the whole city area for another way of ending the game, of just leaving the shell behind and letting it be. You could argue I did exactly what the game's credit scene said was the worst thing to do: nothing. But at least from my point of view, I did something: I decided against violence. I sat there for another minute, took a last look at the pawn owner and my shell, said "Fuck it!" ... and turned off my console.
I honestly couldn't have wished for a more phenomenal ending to my already overly-phenomenal experience with this game. Thank you so much, Aggro Crab 🦀
There’s so much nuance to this game and Kril is such a flawed and impulsive protagonist that it really makes Another Crab’s Treasure a gem of a game. Easily my favorite of 2024 so far. Thanks for your comment!
3:08 what is the gunk exactly, and how does it cause the crabs ta loss there minds 🤔
I think it’s soda or some form of drink that combines with other pieces of liquidy pollution
It’s just oceanic pollution, the creatures are corrupted because there’s microplastics in their bodies (plus some later revealed other causes).
Kind of reminds me of Hollow Knight
There’s a reference to Hollow Knight! You can find The Knight’s nail and it increases your attack power
I've beaten most of the souls games but this one was too hard for me😢
Really! That’s interesting. You could probably up the parry and dodge invincibility windows and if that doesn’t help go for a more drastic option.
you could also try an endurance build with a valve; you will get a practically invincible shell, and an unbreakable hammer. Combine that with an Isopod stowaway, and you will zoom around the battlefield blocking everything; just avoid aggro attacks.
I struggled until I beat Gravekeeper Topoda. Afterwards my build was busted and I first tried almost every boss. So I was kinda dissapointed of the middle/ endgame.
I struggled a lot more with the souls games. But that's only my experience. 😵💫
Can't believe I just got Coconut Malled...........
I beat Pegurus way too early
Same
I beat him before going to flotsam vale and I got secret dialogue oooooh
had to play this in 820 resolution still loved it
How dare you make quality and thoughtful content while only having a small following, just for that im subscribing
Thanks! I’m trying not to have a small following!
I feel like this game is just critiquing capitalism. It is still a fun game all around though.
You this feels like similar lore of a certain cartoon show that ended a 2 years ago with greed and such things like pride hmmm

It’s amphibia
I wish there were more games like this that had political social commentary like this game. The first 4 Ratchet and Clank games did on PS2 but as soon as that series jumped to PS3, that stopped. The Oddworld games did aswell.
Capitalism is not perfect, but it's the only thing that actually works
Actually, it doesn't. The game itself explains that. But you either conform or you get angry like Krill. Both ways won't change a thing.
And because I want a solution, that doesn't make me a communist. That is poor Manichaeism.
@@TheFailedOwl No NotaYT is right, it does work. The whole point of capitalism is to create value, i.e. food, technology, entertainment etc. Which it does in abundance.
It has many flaws including...
powerful people can get away with anything (Which all systems struggle with), it's often morally (and intellectually) bankrupt, it prioritises the now over the future and it has no solutions for what amounts to investment leeches (people who live off of great grandpa's oil fund) and many other flaws.
But it creates value so you can either work to fix it's flaws or come up with and implement a better system.
I would say that the game does in fact exaggerate a lot of "caitalism bad" rethoric, like to have a functional society some kind of token is necessary because without it its excedingly hard to coordinate workforces to achieve anything, and also the jabs at "trickle down of money" and "long term economic benefits" are just too simplified to the point of disinformation about the actual system
Also blaming capitalism for the pollution of the planet directly is just fucking dumb, like just look at Mao's purge of "plagues" and how it left china's environments, one system isn't the culprit for ecological destruction the goddam human nature of solving what it perceives as problems such as having housing or ensuring confort are the ones to actually blame
I’m gonna hazard a guess that having a rich fish in a video game say “you guys should’ve let me have all the money and I would’ve let it get to you eventually” isn’t supposed to be a substitute for Economics 101.
@@NotFrickingNick eh fair enough it's just too simplistic for my taste, if you have to shove social commentary in fiction at least make it good, if not it's more of an annoyance
I wnat to fight krill and eat him for lunch how you gonna use the magickal shell to just hit a guy while hes down which in turn accomplishes his plan anyway so fighting his ass is pointless if you where goning to do that anyway leading to economic destruction to a entire town cause all the crabs with leader material are dead which means he let a town to fiend for them selves with the impending possibility of inflation making it soon end up like a 3rd world country he could have ended the game by pressing the powner or killing him which he did anyway just for a shell he would give away to "some one in need" (by the way theres tons of junk which is apparently more effective then shells so wtf did they mean by someone in need idk they could have gotten their own) and he did all of that to go on a adventure making everything the "character groth" which ways forced and lazy cause its classic "oh well all my fault i go kms" plot which didn't change krils mind about "i need my childhood shell" at all it just stopped his instant depression which they didn't use in anyway good i should've knew all indie single players are like this "The simi reasonable villain gets beat by the American version of a manga/anime hero who is only doing it mainly for them selves" type plot i hate it cause they are doing villain type shit gilded by empathy and selflessness thats never really selfless the so all of that makes the plot ass and bumy like kril him self atleast firn tried to do something good the town would have been in trash anyway cause of kril at least pollution could go down by 20% in some years i just hate him what he did makes me want him to turn him into a krabyaki because plot wise just like the message he ain't shit
But im still gonna buy anyway cause it's aggrocrab😂😅💀
I recommend learning punctuation because I ain't reading all that brother
@zanzibar4730 No you don't have to thus I'm not going to you'll comprehend it to the best of your ability im not doing all that for this
so the story is "capitalism bad cuz pollution" pfffff... literally the tragedy of the commons can only be solved trought property rights (thats why the soviet union drained up the aral sea), and "regulations" wont solve most problems regarding externalities, as those willing to pollute will do it even under the threat of enviromental fines if it makes profit, but not under harsher punishment for fellonies against third party properties
and theres also the point of incentives: if you are the ceo of a lumber company, you have a lot of incentives to replant any tree you chop if the forest is your property to have a long term profit, but if youre an ilegal lumberjack on the amazon, you have 0 incentive to do it because the trees belong to the government, and the government has way less incentive to go after you than you to give up your way of life
Huh ? If anything, lumberjack companies have an incentive to not replant, because doing so is a waste of money when their are still other forests standing, and that would make them fall behind the concurrence.
Capitalism will never be able to respond to climate change because the seeking of near term profit is fundamentally misaligned with the pursuit of sustainability.
And no, private ownership does not solve the tragedy of the commons, we still very much suffer from it. I really don't know where you got that idea.
@@benjaminlefebvre1866 yes, there are other forests that are NOT their property, so they cant do anything about them... and even if the owners are willing to sell, its still cheaper to replant, so yes, private property solves the tragedy of the commons, you cant do whatever you please to X place if its not your property, and if it is, you have an incentive to mantain it
and private bussinesses usually seek long term profit, which is completely aligned with sustainability, and not every single private owner of a terrain would be a bussiness, theres also conservationists or common people living in those terrains
@@Mrlighthouse1000Damn, I didn't know Firth had a UA-cam account. Did you make one after Krill kicked your Capitalist ass?
18:56 Bullshxt, I can say the same about a socialist society, having family members whose been through communism, that a socialist society incentivizes greed and hurting others for your gains because thats exactly what happened and why they had to drop that system. But that isn't true. Greed comes from the human heart, and it will exist in any system. Yet greed is a factor that pushes humanity to advance. Without the first greedy guy who wanted to have a more comfortable experience, there wouldn't be the push to invent something that makes his life easier.
If they don't like capitalism why are they selling a video game trying to make money off it?
Cuz a fella’s gotta eat and you may as well own your own means of production!
@@NotFrickingNickalso in Marxist terms, making money off what you create is fine, it's when you use employees or labour to do work for you that makes you passive income that is wrong

bruh, this went from some good game review and a climate change message to commie gogalie shlop. Do you think communism or socialism is the solution instead of just punishing companies for climate change?
The game nor this video advocate for communism or socialism. In fact it’s not even mentioned in this video! I literally state that the game’s thesis is that there’s nothing we can do to substantially change the trajectory of our planet so you should just be a good person, try to do whatever you can, and not be complacent seeing ecosystems and lives get ruined.
