Grace Sun ah yes who could forget dookus signature move, the fans of death.
Yeah.
I swear, the old 2D animated clonewars is the only thing that seems to have done him justice.
Grace Sun it’s hilarious because dooku was one of the best duelists and Grevious just sucked XD the only one who bested dooku were anakin and yoda, two of the strongest force wielders and duelists on the light side at the time
Dooku: I have trained him incorrectly on purpose, as a joke.
The Giant Rat That Makes All Of The Rules huh maybe Dooku just taught Grievous the necessities for successfully wielding a lightsaber, since they required a lot of awareness and strength to correctly use. Grievous, having four robot arms with much greater functionality than organics, wouldn't exactly fit within a recognised school of lightsaber combat.
Mace Windus form is for when a Jedi is needed to act like a mothafucka and kill some god damn snakes

Form 7
Or not :(
Fun fact: Mace had a purple lightsaber color because Samuel L. Jackson just wanted to see himself better in the Battle of Geonosis. He actually just asked George Lucas for it.
Obi-Wan Kenobi um that would be master Windu to you
quick reminder: purple lightsabers exists because Samuel L. Jackson wanted it that way...
Still find that so funny...
It'd really blow if he never requested it, fits so well into the lore
Just like all the Star Wars lore. The original movies were never meant to spawn such an intricate story, they are the most boring part of the whole Star Wars IP. George Lucas added random fantasy elements just for the sake of adding them, with no other reasoning behind it.
I find it truly impressive how this wonderful universe was created around such boring source material.
@@DreadMew They probably just thought "Welp, now we need a reason for these purple ones so we'll create a mini lore background."
You mean because Mace Windu was so rad 🤣
Sequel trilogy: So basically we’re gonna ignore all of that and make them swing their lightsabers around like baseball bats
Kylo has a style sometimes but rey has none
At least they have actual weight to them, unlike in the prequels
@@jamesthompson9959 "you've become the very thing you've sworn to destroy."
@@jamesthompson9959 Even real swords look more light and agile than sequel lightsabers. Seriously, of course a laser sword isn't going to have weight to it that's kinda the point.
Mememaker Gildamir yes but a sword doesn’t have a kyber crystal, power cell, field conductor, vortex ring, power insulator, recharge socket, focusing crystal chamber and assembly, emitter, controls and modifications. This obviously makes the lightsabers more heavy, which the prequels don’t accurately represent. I love the prequels as much as the OT and ST, but I just want to speak my thoughts
Lightsabers are extremely complex and difficult to wield

How is Form 3 connected to Djem So? Djem so the the lightsaber-to-lightsaber-combat variant of Form 5, with Shien being the non-dueling form of it. Soresu (Form 3) isnt connected to Djem So, Djem so didnt even exist when Soresu was developed.
@@random.3665 what’s djem so?
@@thebrick611 Form 5 is divided into 2 separe styles:
-Shien, which is mostly used for blaster deflection or fighting against opponents without lightsabers. It often features reverse gripping your lightsaber. Asoka Tano is a good example of a Shien-user.
- Djem So, which is the dueling style of Form 5, used for lightsaber-to-lightsaber combat. People like Anakin skywalker (mostly in Episode 3) are practitioners of Djem So.
Both Shien and Djem So together are what makes up Form 5 of lightsaber combat.
Both were however invented after Form 3, which means when Form 3 was created, they didnt exist yet. So they arent connected to Form 3 in any way, other than both being forms of lightsaber combat.
@@random.3665 I think they mean because, if I'm not mistaken, Form V in general was created by users of Form III specifically to compensate for their lack of appropriate offensive capabilities. The "Shien" component builds on or complements Soresu's exceptional projectile defense with a bit more grunt (more aggresive deflection style), while "Djem So" accommodated the need for true melee offense, while still having the basic defensive principles, just adjusted for close-combat/duelling.

dooku's fighting style is the coolest because he is so calm about it. he is literally fighting for his life and he does it with 1 hand behind his back

Comparing Rey to the Wii Sports games is giving Rey's "technique" too much credit. The Wii games had way more actual finesse.
Examples of form masters
Form 1: Kit Fisto
Despite Form 1 being mainly orientated to teach lightsaber basics, Kit Fisto became a master of the style and showed frightening prowess during the clone wars. In a duel with General Grievous, Fisto adopted a duel lightsaber approach and successfully defended against the General's four armed assault due to Form 1's emphasis on facing multiple opponents.
Form 2: Count Dooku
An absolute master of form 2, Dooku took it to its apex, improving on the form's original lack of defence by incorporating economic and swift counter attacks whilst still maintaining a powerful and elegant offence. During the clone wars, Dooku engaged in many battles with younger and faster opponents such as Anakin Skywalker, Obi Wan Kenobi, Three nightsisters, Master Yoda and Savage Oppress. In his old age, Dooku's use of form 2 turned him into a deadly razor.
Form 3: Obi Wan Kenobi
After his duel with Darth Maul and the death of his master Qui Gon Jin, master Kenobi incorporated Soresu into his combat style and elevated it to its highest mastery over the clone wars. At the war's end, Kenobi appeared almost invincible, able to engage in combat and defeat the powerful opponents General Grievous and Anakin Skywalker, both of whom were feared Jedi killers.
Form 4: Master Yoda
Due to his short stature, master Yoda made heavy use of form 4 in his battles and from all appearances, he hadn't slowed with age. In the rare cases where he drew his lightsaber, master Yoda appeared more like a hurricane, jumping and flipping around his opponent in a berserker like frenzy. Don't let this fool you however, Yoda is a tactician and no strike landed where he didn't wish it to. At the end of the clone wars, Yoda engaged Darth Sidious who had previously engaged 4 Jedi masters and emerged victorious. Their fierce battle culminated in the Sith relying on his force powers as Yoda outmatched him in saber combat.
Form 5: Anakin Skywalker
As a padwan, Anakin Skywalker made heavy use of form 5's Shien variant and was able to reliably survive the battle of the Geonosis arena. However, the end of the battle found him duelling count Dooku and losing his saber arm in the process. After a cybernetic replacement, Skywalker incorporated Djem So into his style and over the course of the clone wars, became a master of saber to saber combat, eventually defeating the master duellist Count Dooku. After the war's end, Skywalker betrayed his order, slaying all manner of Jedi from Master to Youngling before luckily being defeated by Obi Wan Kenobi on Mustafar.
Form 6: Darth Sidious
Despite his dislike of them, Darth Sidious mastered all forms of lightsaber combat over his long life and much like Exar Kun, combined them into a modified for of Niman. Form 6 takes aspects from all other forms and Sidious illustrated this perfectly in his battles. Instead of relying on one style of combat, Sidious's form was dictated by the situation. In a duel against Darth Maul and Savage Oppress, Sidious adopted a duel defensive style that tired the brothers out until an opening presented itself. When duelling Oppress alone, Sidious adopted a combination of Forms 4 and 5, using acrobatic dodges and fierce counters.
In his duel against 4 Jedi masters, Sidioua opened with a form 1 assault to quickly dispatch 3 of the 4 only to adopt forms 4 and 7 against Master Windu.
Form 7: Mace Windu
Turning his love of combat into a discipline, Master Windu created a light side variation of Form 7 that prioritised a controlled frenzy that would leave any opponent reeling. In a fair fight, it's possible that Windu could defeat any Sith as his combat style actively weaponised the dark side against its user, the more anger the sith would feel, the stronger Windu would become. This fact is seen in his duel with Darth Sidious who lost to the jedi master after a frenzied rage left him exhausted and disarmed. Windu only lost this duel due to a surprise attack from Anakin Skywalker, severing his saber arm and leaving him vulnrable
It’s also worth noting that Kit Fisto did manage to live a few seconds longer than his two fellow masters against Darth Sidious. Considering the only ones who lasted longer are Yoda and Windu, that alone speaks to his mastery of his form.
Makashi never had a lack of defense though. It was a balanced style that it’s practitioners would *create* their own unique offenses and defenses from.
To summarize:
Form 1 = basics
Form 2 = dueling
Form 3 = defence
Form 4 = high flying
Form 5 = power
Form 6 = combination
Form 7 = frenzy
Form 1 is simple not basic
It’s simplicity is why it can be so Lethal
Kit Fisto was a form 1 master
It can be incredibly dangerous due to its users placing so much control in the force and is considered risky to use as letting go of that much control flirts with the dark side
You become very unpredictable and hard to read and specialise in take on many foes at once
Obi-wan considered Kit Fisto a Dangerous Jedi who went to close to the dark due to him relying so heavily on Form 1
@@alastairhutton6156 So dangerous as to be killed in all of 10 seconds tops I see
James McLaughlin That scene in the movie didn’t give him justice. He lasted longer in the novel version. Secondly he was going against the most powerful Sith in all of history and his style was suited for multiple opponents it was terrible for 1v1. He beat Grievous in under 2 minutes because of that and was considered to be one of the Top 10 Jedi of his era.
@@martinangel012564 Most powerful sith Lord in all history?! Bwahahahahaha, no he isn't, not by a Longshot. Pretty much every sith Lord in the old republic was more powerful than him. Besides, sith Lord revan, Darth malak, valkorian, Darth Bane, Exar Kun, and Tulak hord would all beat the shit out of palpatine. And that version of greivous was incredibly nerfed in the 2008 show. He wouldn't have beaten the 2003 version so handily. How much longer did he last in the novel? 5 more seconds?
James McLaughlin Nope. He’s been confirmed as the most powerful Sith in Canon and in Legends. He’s able to cast force storms devastating planets and ships. Malak and Revan wouldn’t last over 1 minute. Valkorian is probably the only one who has a chance ( I consider him to be #2 or #3 for most powerful Sith). Very interesting how this kind of mirrors Martial Arts in the real world.
You have different forms with different abilities and philosophies. Alone they are strong, but combined with one another they are stronger.
It's kind of like in the real world Karate or Boxing focuses on direct, hard strikes, while something like jiu-jitzu or Judo focuses on grappling and throws.
Both are powerful in the hands of delicated masters, but just as powerful are those that combine the disciplines of both. I. E. A Karate or Judo master vs a seasoned pro MMA fighter.
The Jedi and Sith are no different. There are dedicated masters to a form, like Yoda or Dooku, and then there's hardcore practitioners of several and combine them, like Darth Maul, Darh Vader, Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, ect
George Lucas based the practices of the jedi off of samurai, giving the swords and cool martial arts moves.
You should watch kenjutsu. The moves are beautifully efficient, designed to deliver killing blows in three moves or less without too much acrobatic baton twirling. Body and head position play more of a part in sparring as swinging the sword.
Technically Yoda was a master of all 7 forms and mainly used Form IV but point taken. This is precise.
@@BababooeyYcho66T Yoda was a foot tall and kept leaving the ground, he'd have been absolutely useless especially if he was using one meant for someone of human height
I think they should've just kept with the idea that he was crazy powerful
Levels of skill aside, being able to mix techniques doesn't make you a better fighter
I have over a decade of Jujutsu, kendo and HEMA training and honestly every "style" has all of the fundamentals of what to expect in a fight, it's not like a computer game where you get special attacks by learning a different style. Also keep in mind that the MMA bunch aren't the 1st people to think of mixing, the historical depiction of chinese shoalin and japanese sohei are of mixed martial artists.
And just to clarify, the creators of these styles are not historical martial artists, it's hard to watch the Star Wars choreographies because they're so incredibly impractical

Obi wan is weak without the high ground
@@nanochad2979 Obi wan may be weak without anyone having the high ground, but if even the enemy obtains it, Obi wan becomes more powerful than you can ever imagine. Let's see a few examples:
1) Darth Maul vs Obi Wan (Episode 1)

2) Count Dooku vs Obi wan (Episode 2)
No high ground is present. Obi wan is taken out pretty quickly.
3) Count Dooku vs Obi wan (Episode 3)
Once again, there's no high ground. And once again Obi wan is taken out quickly.
4) General Grievous vs Obi wan (Episode 3)
The fight didn't seem all that hopeful for Obi wan until Grievous pushed him off, presenting and gaining the high ground, which resulted in Obi wan defeating him shortly after.
5) Anakin vs Obi wan (Episode 3)
They fought, having similar, if not same amounts of power, but Obi wan got his advantage as soon as the high ground is present. This time Obi wan manages to take it himself, gaining even more advantage and defeating Anakin.
6) Darth Vader vs Obi wan (Episode 4)
The area they fought in was completely flat, not presenting even the smallest high ground possible. Obi wan dies in this fight.
Conclusion: In order to gain massive advantage, Obi wan needs a high ground to be present, it is not nessesary for him to have it.

Makashi is my favourite form after seeing Dooku take on 3 invisible nightsisters, while poisoned, blinded, in his PJ's, and with such relaxed confidence. Legend
It would be cool if this was implemented into the next Jedi Fallen Order game. Could be done through the skill tree. Depending on the path skills you select it puts you on a path to mastering a form. Secret rare items placed through out the game could provide you with enough points that could actually swing you 2-3 path routes if you choose to use them to do so or bring your closer to mastering you current form.

"The greatest swordsman does not fear second place. He fears last. Because he can not predict what the idiot will do."
Shaak Ti was a master in Form II Makashi and Form IV Ataru. Yoda even said that Shaak Ti's skills in Form II was almost as high as Count Dooku at the end of her life.
Form 8, The style of Rey, no training just inherit mastery.
Rey was already extremely proficient with a staff, so it wouldn't be too difficult to adapt that particular skill into a lightsaber. And we don't know enough about Rey's past for sure to say she hasn't had any kind of prior training (Jedi or otherwise).
@@SigTheSauceMan Bruh you go to any fencing master and try and tell them that because you know how to use a staff you are prepared to take on experienced swordsmen. The will laugh you out of that school.
Fuck that, she's just a poorly written Mary sue.
Big Boy I take fencing and I can confirm this. While the quarter staff is applicable to fencing technique, it is not fully transferable considering its hand spacing and footwork. If one was a master at the quarter staff and began using a lightsaber it would be closest to type 1. If you recall that is the type developed based on swords. I would say it is unlikely she’d be a master at the quarter staff since it’s unlikely she ever fought an enemy using one as well. It’s most likely an intimidation tool that she practiced forms with which yet again gives rise to the idea she would be best at type 1. It’s clear she had no force training so she would not be a practitioner of the other types. Her training would quickly move her to type two I believe. The only other thing I could think of her doing is using the force to power slashes, but to be honest Kylo looks like an emo string bean and she might not have to.

@@gabutman6144 But late, but still:
Form 6 is basically a style for jedi who would by default almost never solve a problem through lightsaber combat. Its the Form for scholars, diplomats, advisers. It requires relatively little training and phsycial conditioning to realize its full potential (which is great for jedi who dont plan to fight alot anyway), but it also means that its full potential is not as great as lots of other forms. Which is why, when pushed to the extreme (all out war), it will very quickly be insufficient.
Basically, it has a low skill cap, but it also has a low skill ceiling.

Form 7 is my personal fav
Basic doesnt describe it at all. It's not a bad or basic form to use, they simply teach the basics of it to the younglings because it connects you to the force better than any other form. People like Kit Fisto and Eeth Koth mastered the form, especially Fisto, in fact he is considered the master of the form, and he is the fourth best duelist of his time.
Edit: talking about form 1 btw, basic dueling describes form 2 well because that's what it is.
Edit 2: oh also basically it's a form that focuses on multiple enemies, excellent for crowd control and fighting droids and just blasters in general, doesn't specialize in 1v1s but doesn't mean you cant be good at 1v1s, prime example Kit Fisto, he's the fourth best duelist despite using this form.

Before becoming apprentice of Qui Gon, Obi-Wan wanted to study form VII a.k.a Juyo but Qui Gon denied this because he feared for Obi-Wan that he would join the dark side.
Just imagine if Obi-Wan turned to dark side, Obi-Wan mastered form I Shii Cho, Form IV Ataru and Form V Djem So but most importantly he was the master at Form III his iconic Soresu and if he was turned then he would be beast with Juyo but luckily he didn't I like him as light side hero ^^
It should be noted that, according to Palpatine's comments in the Jedi Handbook on the subject of Juyo, it was not originally a Jedi lightsaber style, but a Sith one.
Juuyo is a dark side style but Mace Windu is a master of the alternate style called Vaapad. It allows the practitioner to channel their ferocity but not submit one to the dark side as with channeling anger in Juuyo.
Jonathan Dee It also allows a user to channel their opponents ferocity as well which is what makes it so effective against sith.

How are the heli-lightsabers supposed to even work? And even if they do work, it would be a terrible idea! Unless they know the force ability that blocks blaster shots, using their lightsabers as helicopters leaves them open to attack from everyone. Even if they can block blaster shots with the force, they can still be easily overwhelmed, even by ordinary soldiers. If they're against an experienced Jedi-hunter, the only problem they would have would be deciding what weapon they wanted to kill them with.

Someone needs to enlighten JJ and Ruin Johnson about these!
dimenzed To be fair I think jj actually was aware about the forms, especially when you consider in the force awakens that the only one that actually seems to be using one of the seven forms is kylo ren. While wanting to be like his grandfather and go form 5 Djem so like Vader which makes sense given the heavy strikes and his.....decent-ish blast deflection, but unlike Vader, kylo is a very emotional person and his rage shows to get the better of him indicating that he probably would do better to try juyo instead or, and this is a stretch, he's just using form 1 shii cho which makes sense too, broad large strikes, capable at blast deflection, being driven by emotion, and would be a front line commander that would have to deal with multiple enemies at once. So yeah I actually think jj did his homework, as for rian Johnson.....the guy can jump in a sarlacc pit for all I care,
Réd Rôsé most of the time at least. Vaders fighting style is built to be much like him physically, more machine than man, cold and calculated, knowing how to fight against styles Jedi have disciplined in and cutting them down. This has been brought up by a lot of people who do vs videos about him, I.E. evannova95, jensaarai1, antoine bandele, etc. etc. and it's even been describe in novels like the rise of darth Vader if I'm not mistakened, and even displayed in canon material like rebels season 2 and rogue one where he's pretty much going into the fight like he's the terminator, especially for that rogue one scene at the end. That said, Vader isn't exactly flawless and tends to use force rage in battle, though this can be explained through vaders form 5 being a more advanced style than the standard Djem so, being similar to form 6 niman and taking elements from the other styles and using them through moderation, which one of the forms being form 7 juyo where using the rage passion in battle is a key element to the form. Now while Vader does have a tendency to fall into rage, it's not as often as seen with kylo ren, who despite only being in two movies shows to be in a more raged state than Vader, at least during a Lightsaber duel or when he's lashing out with his Lightsaber.
Wasn't Jar'kai a variation of Form VI? I know it's mostly a "style" of sorts, meaning you dual wield blades and you can use different kind of a swordplay, but I thought ultimately Form VI:Niman taught it's balance.
Kaalsemulzii honestly yes and no, jarkaii has been best used with niman as its use of moderation works with dual weapon fencing and is at times a better choice to train in form 6 with dual blades. That said though jarkaii also works well with nearly every Lightsaber forms, form 1, as seen with kit fisto against grievous form 3, as seen with obiwan kenobi though it's kind of redundant as you'd just have twin shields to bolster your already stone wall defense along with kenobi being a whole other beast with the form, form 4, as seen with Luke skywalker in legends, form 5 to a certain extent as seen with anakin, and form 7 as seen with darth maul and palpatine, so it's not necessarily restricted to only form 6. However, when looking at jarkaii with the other seven forms, form 6 niman arguably is the best form to work with jarkaii thanks to its use of moderation of elements from the other forms, each form individually with would be a capable match, but with nimans mixture of their respective elements the use of jarkaii could possibly be a masterful achievement.
Cody Brock weird, didn't think the jarkai style anakin used was form 4, probably the same for when he fought Barriss. As for ahsoka, while she still uses the shiien reverse grip even when she was a jarkai user, she did start to use form 4 more often and seemed to become more of her primary while shiien being the secondary. I thought I did include both sidious and maul for the use of jarkaii for form 7. As for ventress........yeah I was gonna move away from that, not only because of how sloppy the form is in the hands of ventress, but also cause jarkaii with makashi would seem like the weakest combination to work with. Mainly because the techniques behind makashi more or less wouldn't be as effective because you have the other blade that can tend to be in the way and mess up the original way the blade was meant to move in the form which is pretty bad when you have such a disciplined form like makashi. Now there is a way to fix this problem of the extra blade getting in the way, replace the off hand sword with a dagger that way your own blades won't cross paths and mess up the movement.
Awesome video of the different fighting style in of Star Wars, fantastic job.
