      t shirts are one of the most important things you should spend money on. the fit, the material, they are a huge difference. on your body it doesn't make a difference, you are basically a coat hanger, but once you start getting a decent athletic body, the cut of the t shirt becomes much more important.

    I agree with everything, except with the belts. Belts that cost 20-30£ will last around 3 years if you are lucky. If you get one nice leather belt from a good leathersmith, you'll get something that will last for your whole life, maybe more

    • @HarryHas

      I suppose it wasn’t the best example. I’ve had my belt for about 10 years and it was about £20 at the time. It was handmade from a good leather maker. I kinda just meant you don’t need to spend hundreds on a designer belt like one from LV or Versace or whatever. Thanks for watching

      Just a couple of disagreements:
      * If you want a leather belt, it's worth spending on a belt that uses actual full grain leather. I bought a brand name belt from Nordstrom's for $80 and a full grain leather belt from Allen Edmonds for only a little bit more, and the Nordstrom's belt fell apart literally within weeks, while the AE belt I've had for years and it still looks great. If you're ok with fabric or nylon belts (or no belts at all), then obviously this doesn't apply, but for leather, it absolutely does
      * Socks are absolutely worth spending more on if you use them heavily. My feet feel way better after a whole day of walking in a pair of Darn Toughs than in a cheap pair of Nikes, especially after I've had them for a few months (or years)

  • @Alexed.w
    @Alexed.w 2 роки тому +67

    I think the real point is that every kind of product category has a sweet spot price bracket you need to find, spend under that and you're getting bad quality that will last you less, spend over that and you're paying for hype/design/ marketing.

    Agree with almost everything here with one major exception. If you want to get a leather belt, $20 is going to buy you a piece of crap. Full grain leather is 100% worth the extra money. I have several cheap belts (made from genuine leather), and a few higher quality full grain leather belts. The contrast in quality is enormous. The cheap belts look plastic, end up cracking, and will last 1/5 as long as their higher quality counterpart. Cost per use ends up higher by initially going the cheap route.

    • @varun009
      @varun009 2 роки тому

      Agreed. If the belt were just an unapologetically thick piece of suede, that would be one thing, but with the embossing and laquering, it just begins to look like plastic. However, if you have a veg tanned belt, do not wear it with light colored pants. I've had the oils and tannins bleed onto my pants.

    Great list! I agree with everything you listed except shirts but I think you mean casual shirts when I have dress shirts in mind. I think you should spend a decent amount on a good dress shirt. I know you probably don't support replicas etc but for people who want those designer hats or anything its really easy to find reps of them that basically look and feel the same. Someone already commented this but I think socks that have wool in them are amazing. You kind find ones from SmartWool and Darn Tough on sale very often and if you have a Costco near you they have some wool blend socks at a great value as well.

    2:37 generally agree but not for business shirts. There's a massive difference between cheap and decent white collar business shirts, quality shirts are usually MUCH better in hot weather (more forgiving/better designed fit around cuffs and collar and cooler material ie more cotton less polyester). Only place I spend real money for socks is for hiking socks (absolutely worth).

      I have the same feeling, but only because I'm deep into the world of raw/selvedge denim. If you research denim in general, you are often times getting what you pay for (although sometimes you're also definitely paying for the brand). If you're just going for the stonewashed / vintage washed look right out of the gate, then yeah, you can get some pretty cheap jackets that look fine in the short term. If you're really a "denim guy" (love the fade process and wearing denim a lot in your rotation), it's worth investing in some higher quality stuff (N&F, Brave Star, Momotaro, Iron Heart, PBJ, Japan Blue, Rogue Territory, etc).

    I mostly just get the more special stuff at higher prices, but even cheap brands are putting out great style here and there.
    I am lucky to like a lot of things that come in cheap, just gotta get a size up most the time to suit my style. Shorts are a great example, I get so many in various colors that my outfit options grow multiplicatively, and they last longer cause my rotation is so long. I also love modular styling with layering and accessories, a great way to spice up the more basic things and get some color/shape accents. (Ohh! Many accessories also come very cheap, and if you've got a crafty friend you can customize with cheap mats)

    Great video mate, i agree...... kind of 80% lol,
    Here is why. When it comes to leather products, you get what you pay. For decent leather wallet and belt, it start around $30-50, and you could spent until $100-250 for better leather, for ex: italian calf , shell cordovan, kangoroo, ostrich, phyton etc. basically, they last lifetime, you won't regret it.

Inflation happened and the same belt probably costs more but I don’t wear it, so either way, it’s not worth it as it sits in my wardrobe not being worn. The wallet, nah! I buy my basic T-Shirts for wearing at home there too. Doesn't´t matter if they are a little oversized when their gonna be stolen/shared by your partner anyway.
    The only problem I´ve encountered is that the majority of second hand stores are directed mostly towards women.

    The shorts depends on your location i guess. If you live on a hot humid temperature country like Philippines, Shorts is a daily fashion. Of course if you were on a cold, winter country, you might not use it all the time.

    Good man! But consider sustainability: Buy one or two good quality leather belts (brown and black), which are tanned without chrome or other harmful chemicals. They will last you decades. And for socks or t-shirts, buy natural fibers if possible.

    Couple of things in my opinion, i got a comme des garçons wallet 4 years ago and it’s been by far the best wallet I’ve ever owned. In terms of shirts, the quality and fit definitely improves as the price goes up. A flannel from Portuguese flannel is miles away from a h&m or uniqlo flannel

    • @HarryHas
      @HarryHas  2 роки тому +2

      I do like Portuguese Flannel shirts a lot. For me, I don’t get excited or wear shirts enough to justify spending a lot on them. I’d definitely like a better wallet but I’m not paying for one. Thanks for watching mate

    The addition I'd make to your video is to look at the slow fashion aspect of your purchases- how environmentally sustainable are the items? How long will they last? And how are the workers treated and paid throughout the supply chain? If these are good, then buy them. Companies like ASKET are doing a good job at making wardrobe staples like t-shirts that cost more than a lot of places for a basic, but I think are absolutely worth it because of the environmental and social benefits of them compared to most high street brands.
