I grew up with FO3 as my first fallout game i played and I think the whole controversy reeks of the schism that seemingly exists with old gaming communities fallout included. for example fallout games vs new fallout game fans or the classic doom vs nudoom or even boom vs udmf debate/schism inside of the doom community. a lot of it seems to be people too attached to one thing or another not willing to admit that their favorite game has flaws and denying that future or past titles did anything better. alsoi find it interesting that people aren't nearly so willing to give fo3 the same benefit of the doubt that fo1 gets. both games are the first entry by that studio in the FO world with new systems added in each subsequent entry. I remember when fo4. and 76 came out most the critisism around fo3 either turned into a muted acceptance or "this was fallout at its best from bethesda!", meanwhile fnv gets labeled the perfect fallout game despite it having more bugs than 3 or 4 on launch. i've got plenty of things i'd love to see in a future fo5 or nv2 more arkane/cyberpunk like level design or more special/perk interactions between you and the world/people in it. for example being able to blow locks off of doors with explosives but alerting anyone inside the interior or having a section of wall destroyable with either a strength check, demolitions check, or a tool/equipment item.
@@iPuls3 Well yes and no. It's more of a jab how dated Starfield is despite being recent. And has as much jank as Oblivion had. Fo4 was janky but Starfield manages to be far worse somehow.. It really does feel like Oblivion in Space rather than Skyrim in Space :P
Starfield wishes it was oblivion in space. Starfield actually killed a lot of the most interesting stuff that started in oblivion, most notably radiant AI which was toned down in Skyrim but completely axed from Starfield, NPCs are more lifeless than they’ve been since morrowind and only exist to stand around and wait for the player.
I liked Oblivion with Guns more than regular Oblivion. Although ask me that question again after Skyblivion and Fallout 4: Capital Wasteland comes out. I think my answer will change.
And the “oblivion with guns” completely backfired because I would’ve much rather taken a fallout 3.5 (skyrim with guns) instead of a fallout 4 base building linear story bs game.
3:39 Also the early S.T.A.L.K.E.R build is named "Oblivion Lost." After this, i am supposed to say some more about it to explain it. i wouldn't because you don't need it.
i started playing Fallout games with NV and then played 1 and 2, so when i got in to fo3 i notice how different the way their games was build with a different mindset but still enjoyed alot because of the thematics, the base gun play being fun and the character build being pretty much the same in all those games. so once i got my hands in oblivion i don't got very stuck on it because while both oblivion and fo3 had a cool map and places to explore, oblivion for me lack the dialog system and options along with having a broken level up system thats is not fun to build and also... welp not having guns
So stupid to get into this argument..its the same game engine..one with fantasy assets one with wasteland assets..of course they play very similar..because under the hood they are the same. "Bethesda game" is just another phrase for "game with that engine". Sometimes gamers can really really act like wine snobs that fight over the color of the grape..
The leveling system in oblivion is so opaque and incomprehensible. It takes 60 minute UA-cam videos to simply describe how to not have a completely broken character by the end of the game and the one that can actually beat the end of the game
To be fair, Morrowind is also notorious for required research although for different reasons of course. That being said, Morrowind is more worth having to do that research than Oblivion imo.
I remember at PAX 2011, I was in a crowd watching the trailer for Skyrim, and I turned to my friend and joked "Wow look it's Fallout with swords" and this neckbeard in front of me turned around and for like, 5 very long seconds, gave me the hardest death glare of my entire life
I'll be real. I assumed this was going to be a let's-play of a gun mod in Oblivion. The reality was significantly more interesting. I had no idea a joke I was aware of had so much depth beyond a simple way of comparing Bethesda games.
I need a mod for FNV and Skyrim where there's a portal vendor who only sells weapons from the opposite games. I need a 1911 in Skyrim and a dragon bone greatsword in FNV.
Also there are way older examples where people and outlets using the term morrowind with guns while explaining Oblivion Lost and not yet revealed Fallout 3

I don't know what I expected when I clicked on this video, but I was both surprised and entertained by it. good job
this video taught me that the Fallout fanbase has always been extremely whiny. I didn't know that. I thought that was a newer thing.
This Channel is just Internet Historian without Plagarism.
and nazi dogwhistles
9:41 actually got me
Always a good day when cheesecake uploads
You're about to make me mod "Oblivion With Guns" again.
Third era? More like NERD ERA!
We always have an easier time using what exists as a template. Theres this, skyrim with guns, and the dreaded "like dark souls with ____"
Yeah, there is a reason terms like soulslike and roguelike exist. They describe a game by comparing it to another known one. It gives a rough overview of what to expect.
Remember the time when every shooter was a Doom clone?
An upload from the man.... The myth.... The cake made from dairy that pairs well with cherries!
Just when I think he can't possibly come up with a new way to say Default Cheesecake....he strikes. Appreciate the support my guy!
@@defaultcheesecake Hahaha it's become something I really look forward to. Serious note: you're knocking it out of the park on these videos boss man. No exaggerating this is my favorite channel.
Banger video, you will hit 100k my dude. At the end of the video, I was surprised I did not see a cheesecake talking to me or whirling around the screen this time haha.
isnt this just cheesecake with guns
Just watched this video then went back through your catalogue and watched a few more, then I realized you only have 33k and I had just assumed you'd have had a lot more judging by their quality. Your stuff is great, keep it up!
it's was a review for stalker that said oblivions with gun ???!! :0
Dude the editing and sound effects in your videos are so fucking gold, thank you for making these
Wait I thought you were going to install gun mods to oblivion and do a playthrough...
lol same
"The jar of CnetBrittle had been opened"
Holy shit, wish I was using that one back in the early 2000's..
1:50 the freaking original MW2 level up sound in the background, absolutely S-tier sonic storytelling
By Azura’s Wrath! A Mr.Cheesecake upload.
Oh Boy! Seanut Brittle!
*2nd upload strikes the South Tower
So glad this randomyl popped up in my feed. Awesome vid
Skooma jokes are golden, true OG.
Erm... the 3rd era ends when Martin Septim defeats Mehrunes Dagon. So this would be the 4th era.☝🤓
this is like a youtube video.. with guns
Oblivion was Deus Ex without guns.
Thought this was a Mitten Squad video for a second.
F ( ̄^ ̄ )ゞ
This channel is like cheese with cake
The production value, the videos, man you deserve more views, I just randomly found your channel and im now going throu all fallout content lol
Starfield is not Skyrim in Space...
Starfield is Oblivion in Space
That's actually more of a compliment.
I agree with this. I couldn’t tell you exactly why but playing Starfield felt more like Oblivion than any other BGS title
Untrue, Oblivion is actually kinda fun.
19:31 I was not expecting to see a Cool Cat Saves the Kids reference in 2024 lmaooo
I liked Oblivion with Guns more than regular Oblivion. Although ask me that question again after Skyblivion and Fallout 4: Capital Wasteland comes out. I think my answer will change.
5:18 240p, bootleg audio compression, Blow Me Away, shitty gameplay, fraps/bandicam watermark, clickbait hoax modded Oblivion video
I miss those days
I made myself a nice "Unregistered HyperCam 2" watermark that I can put into videos just for the lulz.
so early i unlocked custom cheesecake
7:53 RIP Mitten Squad 🫡🫶
0:06 no, welcome back, Default Cheesecake
You forgot about when FarCry Primal came out, and some people called it “Skyrim without guns”
And the “oblivion with guns” completely backfired because I would’ve much rather taken a fallout 3.5 (skyrim with guns) instead of a fallout 4 base building linear story bs game.
Never considered it, but that woulda been cool. Fallout 4 plays a lot better though
Don't worry, far cry 3 is Skyrim with guns
@@davidburnett5049 It simply needs more depth, besides that it's a fine game, just not a good Fallout RPG.
LETS GO NEW VIDEOOOO
3:39 Also the early S.T.A.L.K.E.R build is named "Oblivion Lost."
After this, i am supposed to say some more about it to explain it. i wouldn't because you don't need it.
"Oblivion with guns" is how I was introduced to the fallout series. "Oblivion with guns" in reference to STALKER infuriates me.
It’s basically cake with cheese
i started playing Fallout games with NV and then played 1 and 2, so when i got in to fo3 i notice how different the way their games was build with a different mindset but still enjoyed alot because of the thematics, the base gun play being fun and the character build being pretty much the same in all those games.
so once i got my hands in oblivion i don't got very stuck on it because while both oblivion and fo3 had a cool map and places to explore, oblivion for me lack the dialog system and options along with having a broken level up system thats is not fun to build and also... welp not having guns
As stalker fan I feel offended, I probably need to take a shower after this
I'm tired now, every FPS is just duck hunt with turning
Great editing dude you’re my favorite channel 👍
Starfield is Oblivion with space AND guns, and I had fun with it
ES6: Fallout with Magic
So stupid to get into this argument..its the same game engine..one with fantasy assets one with wasteland assets..of course they play very similar..because under the hood they are the same. "Bethesda game" is just another phrase for "game with that engine". Sometimes gamers can really really act like wine snobs that fight over the color of the grape..
I wish Starfield was Skyrim in space.
Nah, I think Starfield should be more than just a modding platform.
6:23 the complete dismissal of tactics here is fitting for it's reputation
Starfield is just skyrim with guns in space but everything is fast travel
The fact you haven't made a joke about Oblivion Lost is crazy to me
are you talking about stalker's pre release name?
@Timsturbs Yes and no. There is Oblivion Lost and then there is the Stalker Oblivion Lost. SoC, OL and Stalker OL are three different things.
I need to replay Fallout 3 at some point.
Just like when armored core VI was announced "is it like elden ring" plastered on every article
I remember at PAX 2011, I was in a crowd watching the trailer for Skyrim, and I turned to my friend and joked "Wow look it's Fallout with swords" and this neckbeard in front of me turned around and for like, 5 very long seconds, gave me the hardest death glare of my entire life
I like how this evolves into "Starfield is just fallout in space."
Aris fan detected = new subscriber also editing was unique and fresh and funny thank you for making this good sir
I'll be real. I assumed this was going to be a let's-play of a gun mod in Oblivion. The reality was significantly more interesting. I had no idea a joke I was aware of had so much depth beyond a simple way of comparing Bethesda games.
Here I was thinking you were just finna download a mod that adds guns to oblivion and run through some quests or dungeons lmao
damn. you didn't have to go so hard with the editing
Woah a PKA clip!
I need a mod for FNV and Skyrim where there's a portal vendor who only sells weapons from the opposite games. I need a 1911 in Skyrim and a dragon bone greatsword in FNV.
Fallout 76: THE FORMAT IS CRUMBLING
starfield: w haT ịs 4maţ
Also there are way older examples where people and outlets using the term morrowind with guns while explaining Oblivion Lost and not yet revealed Fallout 3
Oof I forgot about Adam Kovic. RIP Funhaus, he fuckin killed it
As a part of the subculture that played Skyrim, then Fallout 4, I totally thought that shit was Skyrim with guns when I first started it up
Fallout 3 feels like it came out a couple years before Oblivion...
