I believe that module only exists on a California engine... I have a 2002 and that module is not there. My issue is the flow plug bus bar on the driver's side get red hot every now and then 😮
You are correct, I think up to 2003 they had California and federal emission trucks. In California I don’t see many federal emission trucks. That’s not good, possibly a dirty or loose connection.
Got it, one of my white/light yellow cables didn't do nothing while the rest as well as the red cables on the other set gave me a light so I changed the 4 on the driver side, tested eventually and now got light on all of them. I will replace the passenger side tomorrow also although they're still good. About the check engine light should that go off by itself or should I borrow a OBD Scanner and get it off? Great video btw.
@@alexo6417 it’s always a great idea to change them all, usually when one fails they will all slowly fail. The check engine light may go out on its own after a few days. I have this scanner at work just to clear codes and it’s great for very basic things. amzn.to/3Xcc9Ug. Thank you
Awesome, check engine light went off and on top of that I would like to share that I was dealing with my starter giving me a rough crank every 4 to 5 key cycles. I've been short on money so I was going to replace that asap. Suddenly this check engine light came on for my glow plug and as soon as I replaced the driver side plugs (which was my bad one) my truck starts nice and smooth and no more rough cranky starter 🙂
WHY would the insulation on the back firewall be shredded? I recently purchased an 01’ 2500 HD w/ 6.6 and it caught on fire today - AT THE GAS STATION!! So the glow plug controller module (California style I think) was cooked…. The truck made it home with fire extinguisher in hand. Note - As soon as I noticed smoke under the hood, I popped the hood and there was smoke coming from the controller and plastic was smoldering before catching fire. The glow plug rail was glowing red hot. I had only driven about 1 mile to get to the fuel stop. Note 2 - I recall seeing a light puff of smoke upon start up before leaving, but didn’t think much of it - I’m very new to diesels. I think I have the skills to replace the burnt module. More of a concern is what may have caused it? Any ideas? Would hate to buy a new part just to torch it again. Thanks for the video - tremendously helpful. ❤.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge on how to diag this fault. I really appreciate it!

My vehicle is an 01’ and it does have the module.
Question, did you need the starter switch on to test the wires or just the test light connected to positive terminal?
Just the test light to battery positive, leave the ignition off.

Did your glow plug light not turn on ? Mines not turning on at all in -35 weather
I really didn’t pay attention to that. Most of the time the glow plug light comes on quickly and turns off on gm diesel trucks.
