Thank you! You saved me a great deal of time. Went directly to the problem (relay) and was able to replace it for $20. No new codes in the last 2 months.
Hey thanks for this video! I appreciate the way you show the exact location of every part and explain exactly how to disassemble and reassemble the system, without assuming that the viewer knows these things. Many repair videos, all with good intention of course, overlook the fact that the viewer may be trying to DIY for the first time and therefore needs even minor details thoroughly illuminated. You've saved me lots of wasted time I'm sure as I now try to find the source of my 380 error code on my LB7. THanks again.
Excellent video. I just changed the injectors in my 2003 LB7 and need to double check the two blue wires to make sure they're on the correct relays. You da man!
Will that code always pop up if it's the relay? I have an 02 lb7 and it does not like to start on cold days no matter if it's plugged in, and sometimes when I prime it it'll start and other times it won't. I've replaced the glow plugs, and replaces the whole fuel filter and housing thinking I was getting air in fuel lines. Only had this problem when it's really cold. I don't Know what else it could be
This is a very good, detailed video. I just have one question. How do you get the relay out? I see the clip on the top, is there a clip on the bottom? I just cant get the relay loose from the harness. Thank you for your help
This is awesome. Great detail. I've been needing to trouble shoot this on my truck for some time now and this will be a big help. Would you care to post a link to the schematic you show in the video?
@hatecke007 I had the p0380 code and I changed the relays and I started it but the light is still on? Do I need to drive it a bit or should it go off immediately?
You'll need to clear the codes from the computer. Autozone will scan it for you and although they will sometimes not let you "clear code" ask nicely and usually they will.
Just got that code, plus I need to pass my smog asap, this video seems like it will be helpful. Im not a mechanic so I will try my best. Is there a chance that I have bad glow plugs?

i thought mine was bad too. i replaced the fuse and still have the same code. time to replace one thing at a time now i guess

+Brian Zimmer Look at video at 15:20 for about 25 seconds.
Does the control module need to be removed to be tested? Can it be disconnected and tested in place anyhow without having to unbolt it?

+Phillip Herron Google "engine wiring duramax lb7 6.6" and look under images.
I've taken off my terminal wire's to do another job on that same truck. and don't know where the go back? Anyone can help
Ok I have checked the relay and is good but the code is still on so I'm lost now
How did you check the relay? I've seen these relays work with NO load, but when under actual glow plug load, they fail by Sticking open/closed.

Excellent video!!!
Is this relay also called the controller?
Yes, But the controller is the entire assembly, both relays and the housing they sit in.
thank you
my computer is not sendind 12v it sens 8 and then drops to 0
I've got code "P0381 Glow Plug / Heater Indicator Circuit" in my LBZ. Same problem you think?
There are 2 relays in that controller, one is for the glow plugs the other for the intake heater.
