I bought a Pioneer reciever and there is no On Off button so I just pop off the faceplate and throw it in the floor, works every time =)
What is the model number of your Pioneer in-dash receiver? If throwing the faceplate on the floor works for you, there is no reason to stop. However, when you pick up the faceplate from the floor, I recommend to check and see if there is an SRC button on the faceplate. Possibly on the left side near the volume control. The SRC button, or Source button, is used to change music sources. If there is an SRC button, I recommend to Press SRC once or more to change the music source to Radio, USB, Bluetooth Audio, etc..
Try to press and hold the SRC button for a few seconds. This should switch the receiver off.
If you switch the receiver off and you're still seeing lights and moving text, you may need to switch off the receiver's demonstration mode. Here is a How To video from Pioneer: ua-cam.com/video/to2eXLPBnJI/v-deo.html
If you switch the receiver off and you're still seeing the clock, on most receivers, you can turn the screen completely off by pressing the "D" or display button. You can see this demonstrated in this Pioneer How To video: ua-cam.com/video/Xa2xUgMOxRc/v-deo.html

How to save settings on MVH S420BT 1DIN?
If your clock and radio stations reset each time you start your vehicle your in-dash receiver may have an improper connection for the Yellow Wire. The Yellow Wire must have constant power from the vehicle. The Red Wire is for accessory. Do not connect the Red Wire and Yellow Wire together. I have the Pioneer sph-10bt, and it showing DISP OFF. It is not allowing me to connect my phone neither to listen to the radio, nor to Bluetooth connect. What may be the problem?

I recommend to turn your phone off and back on. Next, I recommend to press the in-dash receiver's microprocessor reset button. You'll need a paperclip or some other small point to press the microprocessor reset button. You can find the microprocessor reset button on the Pioneer SPH-10BT behind the detachable face near the center of the panel just below the phone cradle. After a system reset, I recommend to delete the in-dash receiver from your phone's Bluetooth memory and restart your phone. Next, begin the phone pairing process from the beginning. The receivers are designed this way so the receiver will not stay on for an extended period and inadvertently kill the vehicle’s battery. If your receiver stays on when the vehicle is switched off, this means the receiver is installed incorrectly. Focus on the Red Wire. The red wire should have power only when the vehicle is on, and it should not have power when the vehicle is off. Do not wire Red and Yellow together. How do you turn it off totally
Switching the vehicle off should also switch off the in-dash receiver. When the vehicle is on, to switch the in-dash receiver off Press and Hold the "SRC" button. This will turn off the music source. To turn off the clock press the Display button "D".
