In Australia also known as 'Its a long way to the shop if you want a Sausage roll'. In memory of Bon Scott this song has never been played Live since his death.
Prefer the video version from 'Countdown' where they are all on the back of a flatbed truck. It is going down one of the main streets of Melbourne, Victoria with three Scots Bagpipers (in full regalia) backed up to the cabin of the truck so they can play whilst the vehicle is moving.
Same here! Much better version! I watched an interview of Bon Scott's where he spoke of that day. He said that when the band first proposed it to the city, the city administrators said no, but they did it anyway. I love it!
The story is that Bon came to Angus and Malcolm and said that he wanted to contribute to the song instrumentally. Bon and Malcolm were stunned, one of them asked, "What do you want to do? Do you play an instrument?" Bon goes, "I play bagpipes." Bon's dad was the director of the Highland Bagpipe Corps. By the way, it was Angus' and Malcolm's sister that came up with the idea of Angus wearing the school boy uniform on stage. They had tried other gimmicks before settling on that.
Dang, what a freakin' jam. Never gets old. Ya gotta love that rolling bass, too, at 7:18. ACDC is legendary because, quite simply, they know how to BRING IT! Thx for the reaction.
There is a statue of Bonn in Kirriemuir (Scotland) where he was born ,the statue is of him with the bagpipes, Angus and Malcolm were also born in Scotland.
Angus and Malcolm thought about quiting after Bon died but Bons mom told them to go on. And never tell a scot that he can't play the pipes, he'll prove you wrong.
When I saw this reaction pop up, I thought "awesome!" I remember seeing a lot of their early appearances on shows like this and Countdown. I still love their official video clip version where they played on the back of a big flatbed truck down the streets of Melbourne. Thanks from Australia
That's not the only reason why Angus Young always wears that schoolboy uniform. Apparently when asked in an interview about it, he said his teacher told him he will never get anywhere in his life. So basically the uniform is a dig back at her.
We used to play around with the song lyrics & sing "It's a long way to the shop if ya wanna sausage roll". Glad you enjoyed AC/DC, one of the most international bands of all time.
I knew this stuff when I was a baby pushing myself out of the womb to get more ROCK! I still find it amazing that people haven't heard of the legendary bands or their songs. Are people under a rock? Open your ears and ROCK EVERYONE. You know what it took for me to even get to listen to Rock music! Buying the vinyl and holding it like a precious egg with a huge smile on my face. So eager to get home and lay that black disc down and watch it spin. The magazine stands and MTV told us so much. I would never trade it for anything! I can't forget killing my parents car battery so many time tuning into the rock stations. What a time period!

My wifes cousin actually played the bagpipes in the original film clip which was done on the back of a truck driving around Melbourne's CBD. He was the little guy.
We have a bon Scott statue in my home town where he grew up, and a couple months ago we had a moving concert on the hwy he wrote the song “Highway to hell” about, was pretty cool
It's cute watching 30 year and younger people discovering something that was piled up next to our record player and headphones...my first of many Acdc albums was bought at Big K 4.99 blue light special..its good to be old😁💖🇺🇸
Speaking of the bagpipes. I have Scotch-Irish blood in me from my mothers side. So the pipes touch my soul!!! And Bon rocks on this song. There is a version of this song where they are in a city on a wagon. there are men marching behind them playing the pipes. They almost have to run to keep up. Later they are up on the wagon with the band!!!! his is a great video... Thank you all........
Ya, I had never heard that he wore the school boy uniform right to practice other than this reaction video...his sister suggested it after many other outfits including a gorilla costume if I remember right...maybe some more research and "don't quote me on this" before schooling your son on this...otherwise fun for us who love AC/DC!
Hell man theres always so many rumors and false info around, u just never know what's true or not. The only reason I knew about the sister suggesting the outfit and her makin em is cause a interview I seen with his brother Malcom
I love both Bon Scott and Brian Johnston, they both brought their own singing style to AC/DC. They are one of the biggest if not the biggest band to come out of Australia and there is another clip of "It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Want to Rock 'N' Roll)" where they road around the streets of Melbourne I believe on the back of a flat bed truck playing it live, I'll put the link at the bottom. defiantly should do more AC/DC maybe research some more Aussie singers/bands. Fun Fact: the bands name came from the plug on Angus Young's sisters sewing machine.
That was amazing! That's a favorite ACDC song. Bon Scot shredding bagpipes. You said at the end, "You're welcome." I say thank you so very much. That's a rare find.
This was sooooooo good! And, no, I never listened to AC/DC, so the bagpipes were absolutely awesome. Now i have to watch more of their videos. And Harrisons hat puts it over the top. The perfect go-together. I am sharing like crazy. If you can get enough $1 accounts you wont have to go back to work! It should only take a few more, right? Right. Thanks. That was fun.

I believe that this clip is from an AC/DC performance on ABC TV AUSTRALIA COUNTDOWN, filmed at the Ripponlea Studios in Melbourne, Australia. But you missed out on showing the best version of this song, filmed on the back of a flatbed truck going down Swanston St Melbourne past the Town Hall and down St Kilda Rd towards the Shrine of Remembrance. You really need to check out that version. Melbourne boy here.
It's said that you didn't let him experience that song without all the talking and stopping. You should have said hay, listen to this and just hit play. His reaction would have been priceless. You could have said everything else after.
If you are coming to Scotland, you have to come to Kirriemuir. It's just north of Dundee, on the way to Aberdeen. About 10 miles away from where I live. There is a statue of Bon, as it's his home town. Holding his bagpipes. It's a bit of a pilgrimage for AC/DC fans.
ladies and gentlemen: BON SCOTT WAS BORN TO PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,,,,,,,one of the more UNIQUE SONGS in the history of rock and roll!!!!!!,,,,,,,,so the rock critic says:you lads won't make it to THE TOP OF ROCK AND ROLL,cause those bagpipes are way too heavy!!!!!! so bon scott says to the rock critic : HOLD MY KEG !!!!!!!!,,,thank you ,drive through and have a very nice day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You mentioned Scotland... Edinboro University, in Edinboro PA... the town looks similar to Scotland England and the college football team is named The Fighting Scots. Every year the college hosts a Highland Games event. I don't believe I've heard this song, but it definitely has the usual AC/DC sound.
Guys you have to see the original video of this song. They are dead set playing on the back of a truck going down a street in the middle of the city here in Melbourne,Australia. With three bag pipers walking behind the truck, great stuff.R.I.P scotty
I loved seeing Daryl Somers at the end - that guy spent most of his career being upstaged by a Pink Ostrich. He actually had a long career as a tv variety host starting out on Childrens TV and ending up with the same Ostrich Puppet offsider hosting a Saturday Night Variety Show that definitely was going way over kids heads. If you ever get a chance check out some Skyhooks like Women in Uniform or Horror Movie - they were around the same era as AC/DC and had some truly ground breaking stuff that still holds up pretty well.
Even more classic than lwttt, if you can find it, AC/DC 'Baby please dont go, an old blues song given the accadacca treatment. It's from their first ever album ' HIGH Voltage'. Mind blown😂
loved it. It's the boys like I saw them back in '75 in our local town hall ...and it only cost $3 bucks to get in. The last time I saw them (without Bon) it cost $148 and I think the first time was still the best. They rocked hard and played loud and I was 15 and loving it.
I bought this on the day it hit the shops. It was only released in Australia. The international version was released about 6 months later. I do believe the version released internationally was shorter than the Australian version.
This is Bon with his bad teeth. One of the first things he did when they started making real money was get his teeth fixed. From what Iv'e read he was very proud to have them fixed.
My mum was a nurse & needed to go up Swanston st & it was so chaotic there for their clip to this. She didn't care about all this haha like omg mum. We had a save live Australian music rally that followed the route of the clip with different musos playing ac/dc songs to the big stairs at parliament house. I was pretty happy to be there cos it worked & a lot of our smaller venues have been saved At school we would sing it's a long way to the shop if you want a sausage roll 😅
Best clip of this, is on the back of a truck driving the streets playing, seeing people running to get close. I think it is impossible to find now, but it was the original telly clip.
The name of the presenter who you see at the end of the song by AC/DC is Daryl Somers, who had another show called Hey Hey It's Saturday, which was an iconic TV comedy show here in Australia during the seventies and eighties.
Very cool, my wife and I are hoping to make it to Scotland within a year or less. We might actually have plans to stay there for a few months in the future too as soon as Annie graduates high school.
All the two brothers were born in Scotland and their parents took them to Australia as very young children. There was at the time a third brother who founded the group = The Easybeats who had Worldwide hit with songs like, Friday on my Mind and Saint Louis.
That host is Darryl Summers from hey hey its saturday on Australian TV, he wore pink to match Qzzie his pink ostrich cohost. This is a dubbed performance. The best version is the live one they did on the back of a truck for countdown in melbourne. I saw them in 1974 at hordern pavillion Australia Angus was 16.At that time angus played real fast but didnt pay attention to the sound between notes and lacked soul. ACDC is an Australian band formed from scottish immigrants who came to Australia as little kids and formed maybe Australia's greatest band "the easy beats" . ACDC were formed from members of the same family and most of ACDCs songs were written by vander and young from the easybeats
Only the second vocal track was live by the way. That's how it went back in those days. They used the studio recording, the instrumentalists weren't actually plugged in and Bon sang over his original vocals
as a fellow scot you will be welcomed once you visit the highlands don't blame us if you don't want to go home and you should do the NC500 while your visiting
The show was called Countdown mate, I was ten years old when it was made at a cost of $300. I now live in Melbourne and walk frequently up Swanson street - rock on. Great reviews too 👍🏻
That wasn't countdown, mate. It was probably "Hey Hey It's Saturday" or some other crap on the commercial channels that was hosted by Daryl Summers. Either way, it wasn't Bandstand. That finished years before and was hosted by Brian Henderson. Yeah, I'm old enough to remember all of them. For some unknown reason the drugs never burned out that part of my brain. Cheers mate.
I was 8 years old and watched them doing a warm up sound check at the Croxton Park Hotel in Melbourne Australia whilst My grandfather was playing snooker and Malcom let me play his guitar and Bon was a legend with me and they were really great t this pesky 8 year old kid and I basically had my own private AC/DC gig, then i saw them live at the Myer Music Bowl after Bon Sadly Died in the Back N Black Tour in 1980 with Brian who was a great replacement. I have seen them 4 times and they are awesome.
If you want to give some more love to Aussies playing bagpipes I can definitely recommend any of John Farnham's performances of the song "You're the Voice" from the 80s.
Bon was brought up in Kirriemuir in Angus, at least until his parents emigrated to Austraila when he was 6. Fun Occurance:- there's an actor called Enn Reitel, who, despite his name, was a fellow Angus lad. Enn decided to try his luck as an actor in Austraila in the late 70's. Bon, who'd never met him before, found out on the grapevine what was happening, met Enn at Sydney Airport, offered to put him up, and the two proceeded to get merrily pissed.....
Bon scott was buried in his home town in PERTH AUSTRALIA.Sorry i dont think it was bandstand ,it was Dariel summers show i probably saw this live. called "hey hey its saturday.
one reason Bon may have been holding the bagpipes was that when they put them down on the stage floor, people would try to pinch them! i believe the bagpipes ended up in many pieces after a crowd westle over them.
In Australia also known as 'Its a long way to the shop if you want a Sausage roll'. In memory of Bon Scott this song has never been played Live since his death.
So true

@John Foxton no, he really means 3 Scottish men playing bagpipes. The rest of the band members were on the flat bed. The 3 bagpipes walked behind it.
@John Foxton oh!!! I'm sorry, I miss understood. Lol
I seen it in a double disc DVD called Family Jewels. Probably the best entertainment you can get from a music video going thru their classics.
Guys the bagpipes are representing Angus, Malcolm and Bon's roots as they were all born in Scotland
The story is that Bon came to Angus and Malcolm and said that he wanted to contribute to the song instrumentally. Bon and Malcolm were stunned, one of them asked, "What do you want to do? Bon Scott's mum made a point to attend their first show in Australia after Bon's death, she also spoke to Brian and basically told it is okay.

Awesome video I’m from Scotland 🏴🏴
Nice, we might be visiting Scotland hopefully within the year or so.
as a fellow scot you will be welcomed once you visit the highlands don't blame us if you don't want to go home and you should do the NC500 while your visiting
Definitely Daryl and not Bandstand. Could be Saturday morning Hey Hey.
Jackson Magriplis wasn’t countdown.
Daryl Summers was never cool enough to be on Countdown. I'm 60. I was there. Had to be Hey Hey it's Saturday
@@Mick1975e I agree. He was much too daggy and straight. (I'm 64)
Funny watching this instead of the film clip that I am so used to. It was shot on the familiar streets of Melbourne which is my home city.
I haven't seen this version before. Loved it, thanks!
Angus Young, Malcolm Young and Bon Scott were all born in Scotland
@@frankschlanker true. But they and their families all immigrated to Australia. So we are lucky enough to claim them now.
I actually prefer John Farnhams version of this song! He had such a powerful voice! ua-cam.com/video/Df1ORk-MvTM/v-deo.html
David Forster your fucking crazy and you know it.
@@frankschlanker Got their start here , like Bee Gees and others
LOVE the T-shirt... WWSD?! LOL
I have the same one i bet many others do also.
That was a BLAST! thank you
Bon was brought up in Kirriemuir in Angus, at least until his parents emigrated to Austraila when he was 6.
Bon scott was buried in his home town in PERTH AUSTRALIA.Sorry i dont think it was bandstand ,it was Dariel summers show
i probably saw this live. called "hey hey its saturday.
one reason Bon may have been holding the bagpipes was that when they put them down on the stage floor, people would try to pinch them! i believe the bagpipes ended up in many pieces after a crowd westle over them.
And this is the reason Bon Scott is a legend.
Incidentially, he's decently dressed in this video!
A girl comes up to a bagpipe layer and says "You know sir, if you did not squeeze that animal like that it might not squeal so much."
