Another killer drum solo is Tool's "Danny Carey Drum Cam Pneuma". He's 6'5 & 60 years old but geeeeeeez-us you sure couldn't guess that in a million years. The video is the camera above & on him the entire song "Pneuma". Excellent. There is only one Neil Peart but Danny is a very powerful drummer, guys.
Naming favorite drummers is as hard as naming favorite guitarist. Mine include Stewart Copeland (The Police), John Bonham (Led Zeppelin), Lars Ulrich (Metallica), Roger Taylor, (Queen), Keith Moon (The Who), Phil Collins (Genesis), and Dave Grohl (Nirvana & Foo Fighters).

Peart was 52 years old when he performed this solo - 52 not 22 - and that's what makes this performance of his even more amazing!
Speed, Dexterity and Creativity - he truly was "The Professor" and the undisputed champ (in my opinion)

He has performed better solos than this one for sure, not sure why everyone has jumped on this one, maybe because it was shot so beautifully and was somewhat recent. I didn't realize he was unwell during this show. It must have taken incredible determination to get through the whole concert, amazing human being!!

@@markrobertdevison1227 I agree..The triggers and tuned percussion samples are cool, but the magic of that 70s-80s phase was because he was achieving melody and composition with toms, woodblocks, chimes and bells, without sample triggers. He was also more limber and like a karate master, he was lightning fast and more concise. But any performance from an older and less healthy Neil still towers over all contenders, Lol!!

What I love about this is that it wasn’t just a solo but a performance. For me, however, his most impressive work is the solo section of Marathon. It’s hard to find anyone who grasps what is going on there, but as a drummer, it’s the most mind blowing synchronization of drums and guitar Neil ever performed. You have to listen to it very closely at least three times to begin to grasp it.

Started listening to Rush in 1981 at age 15 and TOTALLY fell in love and awe with them IMMEDIATELY. Sometime after that first year I went to my first concert to see them and screamed my head off at them and drooled over Alex (I had a MAJOR crush on him) just CONVINCED that somehow one day we might meet and he marry me!😆😆. 40 years and 14 concerts later, they are STILL my favorite band of all time and always will be. They NEVER stopped being my favorite even though I’ve enjoyed a lot of great bands. These 3 guys were always ahead of their time and their music is truly TIMELESS. When I first started out seeing Neil, he had the long hair and long mustache- he was a BEAST on those drums!! Rest In Peace Professor, WE LOVE AND MISS YOU❣️❣️ 🥁

(Might) have taken a little while for the word to filter out into the female community but I, like many others back in their early years were introduced to them by a boyfriend or a brother and boy oh boy, it only took ONE listen to hook us. Because with RUSH, you either “get” them or you don’t… it’s just that simple and cut & dry. There’s really no other way to explain it , and people who DON’T get them will agree with that statement as well. One way I’ve heard them described as is an engineer’s band. I can understand that. 😄Also, the band bands listen to. I think we’ve probably all heard these things. To me, they’re all of the above and just GREAT🙌

I think Neil's passing has gotten a lot of people to re-appreciate what a world-class musician he was. In rock mythology that had solidified by the 1980s, John Bonham was/is the GOAT rock drummer. I think people aren't still going to be saying that for very much longer. Bonham was a great drummer and one of the best, and he gets credit for coming first, but Peart had a much longer and more punishing career, he did himself no favors in the parts he'd write for himself, and listen to what a crusher he still was in his 50s.

I have watched this video of Neil Peart's Drum Solo so many times and I'm absolutely in awe of this man's drumming skills. Sadly, he's no longer with us but he's left a legacy of fantastic drumming which is a joy to watch and experience. This particular video is amazing and I enjoy watching it so much. He does so much on all the drums (and there's a lot of them!) it's just fantastic to watch. What a drummer he was - I think sometimes too much emphasis is placed on the guitar skills etc in a band and the drummer, although essential can be taken for granted a bit. But when you hear drummers like Neil Peart, John Bonham, Roger Taylor and Ian Paice etc, you realise just how skilled and essential they are. Thanks so much for your reaction, guys, so interesting as always.

I can’t believe you guys are just getting to this now. I thought for sure you had seen it all ready. He first started this format of solo in the early 90’s. I got to see him do this many times live. It was either the Roll the Bones or Presto tour. I think it was Presto, we had 2nd row! Me and a couple of friends took a very cute girl who had never seen them. We were hardcore fans freaking out the whole show. RUSH point blank is a hellava thing to be a part of. Of course excellent concert. Our female friend didn’t really react the entire concert so we were worrying that she wasn’t having a good time since we talked her into going. She really payed attention to Neil’s incredible solo but was still inscrutable. After it was over, we went and sat on the Riverwalk for drinks and to talk about how great it was. Me and the other 2 guys were going on and on, hardcore fans and had seen them many times. She wasn’t talking so we finally shut up and asked her if she had a good time, what did she think of the band? We were happy when all she said was that she wanted to have the drummer’s children. Ha Ha! Score! What a great show! Second fucking row! The whole time! Unforgettable, Neil’s the MAN! The other 2 guys don’t suck either.

I don’t remember which tour it was exactly (80’s) but I’ll never forget the performance. It was another tour that I had first row on! I think it might have been his birthday. Anyway, my seat was perfectly positioned, perfectly centered with his mike stand. One seat to the right, off center, one seat to the left, off center. I really lucked out on this one. Once the crowd was standing on their chairs, his beautiful, blue Paul Reed Smith guitar was level even to my head when I stood. So perfectly centered and perfectly face level with the guitar. He went around the stage during the show but always had to come back to his mike and my head. I describe it like this, he personally kicked my ass that night. I’ll never forget it. From a purely amazing song /lyric point of view I would recommend Time Stand Still, or Nobody's Hero, Subdivisions. Neil was as good at lyrics as he was drumming 👌🙌

Another killer drum solo is Tool's "Danny Carey Drum Cam Pneuma". He's 6'5 & 60 years old but geeeeeeez-us you sure couldn't guess that in a million years. The video is the camera above & on him the entire song "Pneuma". Excellent. There is only one Neil Peart!!! Danny is a very powerful drummer, guys. Excellent.
Naming favorite drummers is as hard as naming favorite guitarist. Mine include Stewart Copeland (The Police), John Bonham (Led Zeppelin), Lars Ulrich (Metallica), Roger Taylor, (Queen), Keith Moon (The Who), Phil Collins (Genesis), and Dave Grohl (Nirvana & Foo Fighters).

Drums are the very foundation of the band/song, without it, there is nothing for the song to be built on! Percussion is my favorite part of any band. While I appreciate the talent and skills of Neil Peart, for my money, there is no better rock drummer than John Bonham.
