One of the best drummers, yes, but also one of the greatest guitarist and one of the best bass guitarist, too. And one of the best lyricist, three of the best songwriters, song arrangers, creators, and performers in the history of rock. All three were not only amazing instrument players but genius musicians, too.
Spirit of Radio is arguably their most popular song. They are all three master musicians. Remember, Geddy Lee not just sings but plays a killer bass and does keyboards. Alex Lifeson is just a superb rock guitarist who is supremely underrated. Yes, George and Patrick, delve into these lyrics. They are uplifting and cycnical at the same about the love and accessibility of music to the masses but how the industry also can be so suffocating and demanding. You must check them out live - Rush in Rio etc.
So- geniuses all 3 of them. 🎼🎶🎵🎶🎸🎸🎹🎤😎❤️🔥my journey began with 2112- live. That’s before digital, analog....and its 3 guys- I sat motionless for awhile before my brain caught up to my ears.. By the next tour- on my feet the entire show. It was still 3 guys.... technology was right around the corner. These guys didn’t need it, but mastered that too, like everything else. 👍
A protest song. Being a homie...that video brings back memories. Q-107 (classic rock), CFNY (alternative)...”salesman” demanding something to play on the radio...so Rush gave them 2112.
Rush song Natural Science live at Molson Amphitheater in Toronto Canada. Amazing. Seen them 3 times over the years as I grew up with them for the last 40 years.
RusH is composed of 3 compulsive perfectionist, and genuine good people that do not have any the ego trips that have lead to the demise of many successful bands. Truly GREAT musicians that are also truly great friends.... Resulting in some of the cleanest, tightest most amazing music ever made.
It's okay that you didn't pay attention to the lyrics on first listen. You'll get your chance, because you get to spend the rest of your lives listening to this over and over and over again.
Our 3 Canadian masters. Omg u guys should have seen them live....as the song says One likes to believe in the freedom of music. You need to hear this live in Toronto for sars fest. See them at home and us fans totally awesome.
Neil P ear👂 t. You guys finally went down the Rush Rabbit Hole!! FANTASTIC!! ALL three are master musicians. Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson are totally underrated! Of course Neil is...Neil! One of the best! RIP! NEXT...WORKING MAN-LIVE in Cleveland! Rush is a great LIVE band!! You will LOVE IT!! They are a little older and it shows they just kept getting better with age!!
Yep guys! Time for “La villa strangiato” or “Xanadu” from RUSH then you’ll also appreciate Geddy Lee or Alex Lifeson, of course Niell Peart is my childhood HERO :)
Especially the live version of Xanadu from the Exit Stage Left tour. They show each musician playing their relevant parts, so you can see how three people make such big sound.
It's easy for Alex to get overshadowed or not recognized for just how great he really is, by new or "casual" fans that are taken in by Neil's playing or Getty's voice... but Alex can play with the best of them.!
You won’t be disappointed doing more Rush. They have a very deep catalog, and went through many style changes throughout the years, but they were always unique and progressive. I think you should do Xanadu live from 1981 Exit Stage Left tour. You will see how they all play multiple instruments to make 3 guys sound like 6. Geddy plays bass, keyboards, rhythm guitar, and synth pedals with his feet - and he’s the singer! Neil is a one-man m percussion section, playing chimes, wood blocks, tubular bells, and glockenspiel, in addition to drums. One of the most incredible live performances you will ever see from three guys. Cheers!
That was brilliant! I don't know many Rush songs, I know Tom Sawyer which I really like. I also know that their drummer, Neil Peart, who sadly died in January 2020, was definitely one of the best - I've watched him on UA-cam and he was phenomenal, in fact I've watched him a few times doing a long drum solo and it was great. They are an interesting band and I really like Geddy Lee's vocals - so, I should really check them out more and I think I will! All the best guys.
Hold Your Fire tour live in Birmingham, UK. Best concert I've ever attended and it was recorded for the Show of Hands live album and video (that's how long is was ago)
Any Rush fans out there remember when Rush went out on tour and I believe only a few cities were lucky to here Rush live in surround sound I'm not to sure on the year, either 79 to 81 they did this and Pittsburgh Civic Arena and it sounded fantastic.
I’ve been listening to this song for 40 years now and it just never gets old. When I saw this on your channel I immediately clicked on it. Like a kid at Christmas.
I saw Rush, way back in 1973, playing at the Colonial Tavern (yes, a tavern!) in Toronto. I'm so happy these local guys got their amazing music around the world. They deserve it!
Kudos to whoever did the animation! Very creative! Rock and Roll Radio was free for everyone, and it's simplicity made you feel so good. Radio isn't the same today. The music is just filler in between commercials. Kids learned about all the new music, artists and Bands in the 50s & 60's, from dj's like the Legendary "Wolfman Jack". But A.M. radio wanted artists to stick to 2-3' songs that were commercial and radio friendly. When Rock moved into the F.M. format, it changed everything, especially for bands like Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd, who no longer had "time constraints" on how long their songs should or could be. Unlike A.M., F.M. was in STEREO, and sounded pure and clean with "no static at all...efff emmm! So you could listen all evening long with few commercials, and a dj might play ALL of DARK SIDE of the MOON, etc. Today, tech let's you select individual songs whenever you like. Back then, we were waiting for someone to play it for us...especially if you called in to the "request line". So Radio holds a special place in the hearts of us old timers! 🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦
You've only scratched the surface. An early masterpiece from caress of steel is the necromancer. a touch to your soul is leave that thing alone. And on and on it goes.........
One of the best rock 🎸 songs of all times and a great live band. We can't forget a great drummer by the name of Neil RIP man. Roll the Bones and Tom Sawyer also great listening.
You must listen to 2112. It's 20 minutes long, but it will seem like 5 minutes. BTW, Rush doesn't usually get blocked in the US. I'm surprised to hear they get blocked in some countries. In the US, it's Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, The Eagles, Jimi Hendrix, and The Beatles (as well as many others) that get blocked all the time.
I didn't actually notice this when I watched your reaction the first time, but on watching it again I noticed on the video a ship which had pirate radio written on it and flying a Union Jack - gosh, that takes me back. We had Radio Caroline which started in 1964 - there was no one else really playing the music we wanted to hear so we all thought this was wonderful. When Radio 1 started on the BBC in 1967 a lot of the DJs from Radio Caroline transferred there. There was another pirate radio ship called Radio Scotland which started in 1965. I love that video - it's very cleverly made and yes, you're right, that does not sound like just three people in that band, and I do think now, hearing the song again that I have heard it before - it's great.
Geddy is one of the greatest bassists of all time! Alex crazy too. If you enjoyed this I really recommend Subdivisions, or YYZ by Rush. You will see the mastery of all 3 guys ;)
For a great view of them live, watch the official video for "La Villa Strangiato". It is a live performance and it is one of their absolute best songs with a focus on Alex playing guitar.
43 years a Rush fan. "La Villa Strangiato" Best 11 minute song of Rush and Alex Lifeson jaw dropping on the guitar. A must see Pink Pop Live version. The transitions in Spirit of Radio are Sick!
Blessed to live through this era 1964 birth date, lucky to hear earlier songs motown, zepplin floyd, beatles, elvis, sinatra, andy williams, punk amazing time. listen to the music of today that is influenced by the music before.........If I could offer any advice enjoy everything........."Listen to everything find joy in what you like".........Its not an offence to enjoy genres or types embrace the tunes X Ukraine shine on you crazy diamond X
Tom Sawyer, Limelight, The Garden and Red Barchetta(to name a very few) are super. Each master-musician plays lead, and it makes RUSH. Oh Canada ✌💚 Love the enthusiasm from new listeners, that joy never dissipates.
Xanadu from their 1981 concert "Exit Stage Left" is a live performance I'm sure you would enjoy. You will be impressed even more by this three piece group and the sound they could produce.
I saw every RUSH Tour from Hemispheres to Conterparts and never was I disappointed. I love how they've produced these new videos for some of their classic tunes.
The story behind this song is worth checking out. Some of the struggles they had with radio station and record companies. You won't believe how they responded to the pressure put on them to conform. By the way, All three were at the top of their craft. I first saw them around 1978 I'm 61 and still Loving it
The guys are right. You HAVE to listen to Xanadu from Exit Stage Left it raises the bar to the zenith of peak performance. It is flawless from start to finish.Just incredible. Then to finish you off listen to 2112 the first side of the album. It will blow your mind.Neil wrote this and its his finest work but the whole band take you on an amazing journey.Hard to believe that three guys can produce this epic work. And yes Neil Peart is the freakin greatest ever RIP Professor youre music and lyrics will live on forever
That passion and intensity that was coming out of these guys is always coming out of these guys. Rush is my favorite band, by miles. I think they are the greatest band of all time. If you wanna watch them live La Villa Strangiato or Xanadu live Exit...Stage Left version. Enjoy the Rush rabbit hole! It's a great ride! Thanks, guys!
My favorite band ever. Not only are these 3 guys super skilled but their songs are full of wit and soul. They have one the most honest attitudes in the music industry, they seem like humble, funny and wonderful blokes and their strong friendship is the key to their longevity. RUSH won't record anymore since Neil "the Professor" sadly passed away but their legacy, art and music are eternal ❤️🎸🥁🎹🎤🎶🎵
RUSH is one hell of a cool band! Always was, always will be... No matter what "haters" of the band over the years think or say! Watch "Xanadu Exit...Stage Left 1981"! This is a great example of a 3 piece sounding like a modern electric futuristic Orchestra, save the dated synth sounds (wich I love)..
A Tune nobody ever reacts to, but which kicks more a*s than just about any other Rush Tune = "Anthem". Love the Band, so much for you to check out by them. But trust me, some of their deeper Tracks are among the best. But that is the same for most great Bands haha.
My humble appreciation of Neil's lyrics in that one, or at least the main theme: it deals with the integrity and perseverance that transpires through your art, regardless of the trend and the sales of whether your songs get airplay or scheduled on f***ing Top of the Pops or not. It's all about the love of music and self-expression, for the sake of art 🤘
So awesome! Rush is one of my top 5 favorite bands for sure, especially LIVE! I've seen them 9 times, each better than the next!! RIP NEIL!!♥️ Great reaction as ALWAYS!😉🤘
The transitions in this song is the sound effect of turning the radio dial to a different station. THAT'S why there are so many different sounds. Back in the day, we had to manually turn the dial to get to the next station. Hence, the different sounds. You should react to Red Barchetta. They actually make the sound of a car in the middle of the song and remember, there are only 3 members in this great group.
I've only liked Rush for 45 years or so and can only speak for myself, but I feel my appreciation of Rush music has grown from (eventually) isolating the different instruments randomly, countlesly, and then seeing how, in their own way, in so many ways, they combine to produce such uniquely rich and timeless music.
The best RUSH song in my opinion, and I've heard ever song they've done from all their albums. Something extra special about this song. The end of this video puts a lump in my throat for Neil🥁. Keep smiling🤘🙂
