When they played in Rio, the band had been together for almost 30 years and had never played in Brazil. For those fans, this was something they’d waited a lifetime for. I saw them about 10 times, and met them very briefly after a gig in 1980. Neil’s loss crushed me. You must check out Neil’s Frankfurt solo. You’re mind will be blown. There is no studio version. You will thank me I promise.
When there's NO lyrics... But the crowd sings anyway...!
Phenomenal #RushRIO
You know a band is awesome…
Wait until you watch the live performance of the song “Xanadu” from the Exit Stage Left tour. A Rush performance that will leave you speechless.
Ohh man, that was the very first time I ever heard Rush live & Xanadu live & studio is incredible.
@@jimled50jl49 The whole album is Rush at their very best - exquisite !!
@@jonsey156 Yes - I bought the double album on vinyl in my teens in the 80's along with the vhs video. Amazing ! Just three guys can make that live too.
A 3 man masterpiece and the Brazilians mad crazy rocking out wowwwwww
Individually, all 3 are the greatest. Together...untouchable level of talent
All 3 of these dudes are at the absolute top 5 all time on their instruments.
Remember guys! They are only THREE DUDES !! Making ALL THAT MUSIC ...Tight!
Why do we have to remember this?
Best drummer that ever drew a breath. Black shirt dude kept his eyes open.! 😂 You guys are great.
3 men make an incredible wall of sound but watching them love the shit out of playing their music is amazing.
Keep up the Rush rabbit hole.
1. Freewill (Studio)
2. La Villa Strangiato (Live)
3. Red Barachetta (Studio)
4. Camera Eye (Studio)
5. Working Man ( Studio)
Keep up the great reactions!!
Best band I've ever seen live and I've seen many bands.
@@gsxrkz Yeah, I love Floyd and seen them a few times myself. No doubt a great show. Maybe I should put it this way, best power trio live? Regardless, both are legendary bands.
Rush Army in the house 🙋🏼♀️
A couple things - you wondered if Neil practiced a lot. The answer is oh hell yes!! Every single day Neil woke with the attitude he could get better. Even as good as he was he continued to take lessons earlier on. He was a perfectionist but also one of the most humble men ever. Keep in mind he also wrote the lyrics to many of these songs.
Always remember YYZ is pronounced Y-Y-Zed. If you go back & listen to the first few seconds you'll hear Neil playing the letters YYZ spelled out in Morse code. Alex heard the airport call sign when he flew into the Toronto International Airport near their hometown & it stuck with him.
The Rio crowd was epic! Only Rush fans can sing a song with no lyrics.
I could go on all day about Rush but this is already too long. 🤩 Keep going live - you'll love it.
For their masterpiece instrumental sit back & listen to "La Villa Strangiato". Studio is actually my preferred on it so you can hear every detail.
You and I are RUSH sisters to the core❣️🤘🏻😊
Check out Rush - Working Man Live in Cleveland.
The crowd was singing along to an instrumental. That says it all right there. Rush had great lyrics in their songs, but their music really stood out. If you want to see something neat , check out a crowd at a Green Day show singing Bohemian Rhapsody. Amazing!
The guitarist Alex Lifeson, is so under-rated. The bassist, Geddy Lee had his solo throughout the song, like George said, but so did Alex. His guitar is often the foundation of the songs. Geddy was awesome though! Such talent in this band!
Love you guys! Always look forward to your videos.
Watch Rush Xanadu live exit stage left...the greatest 3 piece rock band in history, no contest.
@@gsxrkz as with Motörhead, police, ELP etc but no one comes close :)
@@gsxrkz I agree, after moving pictures they lost it, but before that great memories:)
The Professor on drums - gone but will never be forgotten. RIP Neil.
Way too young
THE GREATEST EVER!!!
RUSH is simply the best ever! They are just on another level musically!! 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂
NOW... YOU CAN UNDERSTAND WHY RUSH HAS BEEN MY FAVORITE BAND OF ALL-TIME FOR MY LAST 40 YEARS❤️ They only have about a hundred more songs for you to enjoy getting blown away over. IMPOSSIBLE TO CHOOSE one talent over an other in this band because they are EACH, EQUALLY, 1000% MASTERS at their musicianships.
**Its literally IMPOSSIBLE to choose which songs to recommend over others to you. If you can’t decide where to start, just close your eyes and point to one of their lists and pick one that way. You’ll NEVER go wrong. And if something doesn’t appeal to you totally at first, I PROMISE YOU, if you FORCE yourself to re-listen to it a couple more times, NO MATTER WHAT THE SONG, you WILLLL start to like it by the 3rd time and in the end, end up LOVING IT just like allll the others. If you listen to one of their songs literally 100 times, you WILL always hear something somewhere you NEVER heard allllll the other times before-- even after DECADES of listening to it. NEVER seen anything like it before. Here’s the proper way to introduce yourself to a new Rush song so that you’ll understand what’s going on AND you’ll enjoy it the most::
1. Just LISTEN to the studio version 1 time by itself.
2. Next, listen to it WHILE READING LYRICS.
3. Repeat WITH LYRICS as many more times until you have MEMORIZED some of the lyrics. Their lyrics area KEY COMPONENT to LIKING most of their songs (believe it or not- even though they are phenomenal musicians... just TRUST)
4. Now, you are ready to enjoy them LIVE!
(They sound PERFECT live!!)
REACTION SUGGESTIONS - DO ALLLLL WITH LYRICS or LIVE ONLY!!! Rush didn’t produce very many regular “Official Music Videos” to go along with their songs as most groups do (like pop artists do) But, the few that they DID create SUCKED SOOO BAD! (The music was great but the video part wasn’t is what I mean) I would NEVVER EVERRR suggest watching an “Official Video” put out by them that goes with their songs because that was the ONE THING they TOTALLY SUCKED AT. Live videos or still-pic with lyrics are fine though.
SUGGESTIONS:
Subdivisions
Natural Science
Clockwork Angels
Xanadu
2112
Territories
Working Man
Closer to the Heart
if you like Rush almost all their songs showcase the base.. basically all 3 from the group are gods.
The best part of Rush is the energy they leave you with when they're done. You feel alive!
Neil was Amazing, but Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson are great musicians in their own right.
The three members of Rush genuinely loved playing together. It shows!
The master RIP Neil
I was there !☺️👍 90000 people sung an ENTIRE instrumental song !!
Rush song 2112 is in 7 parts and 20 minutes long.studio version.
Enjoy the ride
They are singing the bass beat, that riff
#ROCKINRIO ABSOLUTELY INSANE CROWDS
David, So true about the Rio crowd! Amazing! They know their music!!!
My favourite music memory - we saw Rush Live in the London O2 and were sat in one of the viewing boxes. When Geddy sang 'concert hall' in spirit of radio, all the lights went up and we saw the entire arena cheering. A cherished memory ❤️RIP Neil xx
All 3 of them are musical equals!
No weak link...
Yeah, one of the greatest Power Trios of all time!
Neil Peart was a monster and his talent was unmeasurable - He is sorely missed
All 3 are masters of their craft. 👍👍👍
They are all legends!!!!
I know, I've already posted this... but here it is again.
RusH is composed of 3 compulsive perfectionist, and genuine good people that do not have any the ego trips that have lead to the demise of many successful bands.
Truly GREAT musicians that are also truly great friends.... Resulting in some of the cleanest, tightest most amazing music ever made.
I learned Alex’s name after this song (decades ago) it was all Geddy and Neil, but Alex is brilliant too.
@@Frau44 Alex is actually the one who started the band...
And he can play with the best of them..!
Seen ‘em 15 times.
I was fortunate to see Rush in concert back in Oct. 2010 when Rush was on their Time Machine tour. Their stop was in an amphitheater in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Only Rush can make Morse code sound good. YYZ is the IATA airport identification code of Toronto Pearson International Airport, near Rush's hometown. The band was introduced to the rhythm as Alex Lifeson flew them into the airport. A VHF omnidirectional range system at the airport broadcasts the YYZ identifier code in Morse code. Peart said in interviews later that the rhythm stuck with them. Peart and Geddy Lee have both said "It's always a happy day when YYZ appears on our luggage tags
Thank you guys for this one! Let's get to their great music. Anything from 2112, A Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves, Power Windows, Presto, Roll the Bones. They will be in your thoughts as the greatest band of all time.
Been playing Bass 44+ plys yrs. Still stumble over this song, Rush is Damn Impossible to play!!👍
now you"ve SEEN 3 guys making all that music!!!
Yeah, everyone just hums and makes whatever sounds they are making. It's an instrument jam 🎸 🥁🎸🎶 💖 Rock on ❣️
Been listening to them since the 70’s. So many good songs to choose from.
Singing with the instruments #RUSHRIO
THank you both soooooo very much!! SEnding love from Canada!!!!!! Next Xanadu Live Exit Stage Left!!!!!1
You know, part of the reason Peart sounds so amazing is because Getty's bass line adds emphasis and definition to his drum notes-and visa versa.
This is crazy good! I seen Rush do this in concert in '81. A brilliant process of instrumentation. More Live Rush is recommended!🤘💥
Rock on!
OMG our Canadian Masters at work and that's how it's done!!!! YYZ is our airport here in Toronto ON Canada. Welcome to the Rush rabbit hole. You gotta check out working man... Yes we have our own vocal add in to songs. Cheers
Goosebumps…..every time!
Love crowds in Rio. They were singing to a song with no lyrics. They were singing the instrumental melody. LMFAO!!! Awesome!!!
Hey! How come I don't get any love?
My favorite live performance of all time. I've never in my life seen a crowd so lit. They sang along with AN INSTRUMENTAL. So good.
I am 54 now and can proudly say I was a RUSH fan when they were not cool. Seen them live 15 times and never disappointed. Best for me was 5th row at the old Starwood Amphitheater in Nashville Tn in about 97.
You and I same age- same Rush journey almost to the “T”. 15 for me too. Best for me was in an Amphitheater down in Virginia Beach -about 15 back. Called :
“An Evening with RUSH”. SO freakin GREAT!
Some song trivia for you:
YYZ is the transmitter code for the Lester B. Pearson International Airport in Toronto. The band lived in Toronto, and therefore flew regularly out of that airport.
The intro to the song is apparently Morse code for "YYZ”.
Hi guys!!!!! I'll just be sitting here...waiting patiently...🙄🤟😁...notice the crowd singing along to an instrumental...the guys were blown away from the crowd!
Thanks :)
@@broaction5343
Just waiting for Working Man Live...😑lol
I love seeing you guys with your happy faces and jaw dropped while discovering RUSH :DD because i felt the same over 20 years ago when hearing RUSH for the first time.. Magical band! I hope more to come for you of discovering them.
Can you imagine the bands in heaven? Neil is on the drums.👍🏼😎🎶❤️BONZO too, of course. #RIPTHEPROFESSOR
best technique style drummer ever and a great band too
Xanadu from Exit Stage Left. Geddy is another level...
This tune is just plain old BADASS good!!! One of the best 3 man bands EVER... Thanks for your reaction gentlemen.
Our pleasure!
SO BADASS!!!
@@broaction5343 I say half yours, half mine...LOL!
@@guidosarducci 😃FATHER!! Is that you? 😆😆
@@gingeroo5765 Perhaps, my child...is that YOU?
Three amazing, top of their game, Jedi masters.
I've Loved RusH for 40+years... Every art project in school was something RusH.... (or Zeppelin..lol)
More RUSH? YES. Xanadu. Live from Exit Stage Left. :) BEGGING.
the crowd was singing the melody boys
Great reaction guys 👍. Another live reaction must be “Xanadu” from “Exit Stage Left”. Another instrumental MUST be “La Villa Strangiato” studio version from “Hemispheres”. You will be blown away...
Geddy will definitely show you what a bass part can bring to song. Most people get blown away by a Neil at first, but the longer you listen, the more you realize all three of them are the highest caliber. And the crowd - yeah man, you ever heard a crowd sing to an instrumental? Awesome! Check out Freewill
You have great taste! Love Rush! Miss Neil!
If you guys want to go deeper, the epic live masterpiece "Xanadu" from 1982 when they were at their peak is truly jaw-dropping.
I wrote u a long message but I also wanted to say THANK YOU for reacting to Rush! Alex, Geddy, & Neil are masters of their craft. Can u imagine living your whole life & never seeing/hearing what true greatness looks like? I'm glad you're on this journey.
Grateful we still have Geddy & Alex. They play YYZ from time to time with the Foo Fighters. Taylor Hawkins is the only drummer they will play with doing Neil's part I believe.
Time for you boys to listen to Neil Peart drum solo in Frankfurt. Second to none. May he rest in peace. Good Canadian boys.
Great reaction guys! Xanadu Exit Stage Left 1981, La Villa Strangiato official video and Working Man live in Cleveland just to name a few. You two have such a long journey ahead of you that you'll hope it never stops. Keep rock'n gentlemen.
Welcome to Rush rabbit hole! 🎸🥁🎹🎤🎶🎵
Greetings from Brazil! From Rush I also recommend "Tom Sawyer" (the original video), "Xanadu", Red Barchetta "and" Freewill "(these are the videos from the live show" Exit: Stage Left)!
Great reaction. Now you guys have to check out “Xanadu” live from Exit Stage Left 1981. The most incredible live performance by any band anywhere. Total perfection.
You guys are great and as Pablo said below, watch Rush's "XANADU" from the Exit Stage Left Tour. MIND BLOWING
Okay. You’re on the journey. It’s going to be a blast. Have fun. Enjoy!
Gentlemen you just witnessed the GREATEST BAND IN HISTORY !!!!!! Three humble guys from Canada that just blew us away with their phenomenal talent. RUSH=LEGENDS !! Cheers from a die-hard Rush fan..
Wow, this is incredible, they are such talented musicians and Neil Peart was such an amazing drummer and completely surrounded by drums - it's great to watch and listen to! The other two are fab as well - what an superb band they were - many thanks for reacting to this, guys, much appreciated!
Couldn't agree more!
Rush Working Man live in Cleveland.
YOU PROBABLYYYY WON'T SEE A BETTER LIVE MUSICAL PERFORMANCE THAN THIS, THIS WAS JUST INSANE, JUST WATCH AND LISTEN TO THE RUSH FANS! LMAO :)
Live music is the best! And you are the best! I am the best and the whole community are the best ;)
Thumbs up for this reaction!
You're the best!
I am so glad you are doing Rush reactions!! Would like to see you react to studio version of Working Man or Anthem. Keep up the great reactions boys!
YYZ homage to Toronto airport. When they saw that sign they knew they were home!
Don't forget the Preamble on YYZ, is the Morse Code for YYZ.
Wait until you here La Villa Strantiago then you'll realize that the entire band is on an entirely different level (especially Lerxst on the guitar)
Neil Peart, your favorite drummer's favorite drummer.
South American audiences famous for singing along to instrumentals of their favorite bands they’re not singing words just the notes

RIP Neil Peart
One Little Victory - Live in RIO.
Rush is, as noted by so many below, three wonderful humans, all three as talented as anyone on their instruments, but the real separator for me is their selflessness to the music. It seems that Rush is most commonly described as "tight" by other elite professional musicians. To be "tight", each had to put ego aside, and make the music work with the extremely complicated lyrics. One never hears Alex Lifeson (Aleksandar Živojinović) compared with Eddie Van Halen or that group of guitarists, because he has no "Eruption" (although I much prefer Villa La Strangiato!) or similar showcase and there isn't an extended guitar spotlight in every Rush song, in fact very few. YYZ is a good example of Alex standing out in a few spots, but no more than Geddy (Gary Lee Weinrib) or Neil (RIP). Geddy spent 30 years as one of the best bassists on the planet, but again, with few exceptions, there is no extended spotlighting of the Bass. Of course, Geddy had to "fit" the lyrics and the music together, play keyboards and sing. Neil, is the one member of the group that always got the most "wows", mainly for the size and breadth of his kit. But again all of those things to hit were there to support the music and lyrics - Neil's lyrics. Neil wrote all but 13 (co-wrote 6 of these) of Rush's songs over the next 30 years.
The most amazing part of Rush is how each member had a focus on the integration of the music around the lyrics to produce a tightly integrated composition. Each of these three extremely talented people had to put their egos away to support the final product.
2112- the entire album. Next, this album- Moving Pictures album in it’s entirety. Then go back.........that’s how I’d do it 👍😎 Just go down this rabbit hole in any order you want......enjoy! Welcome to the party that is this trio. 🤘😎 On percussion, it’s Neil Peart- then everyone one else. RIP.❤️after Xanadu solo....definitely hit that one.....Tom Sawyer. Neil said that was his hardest song, so watch him live, always. 🎧🔥
Bass plays the roll of a rhythm guitar
You asked what the audience was singing; they were singing the SOUNDS OF THE INSTRUMENTS. 😊 Isn't that so cool?
Hello you 2, for some of the greatest live niel peart performances have a look at THE MISSION, and NATURAL SCIENCE live both from the snakes and arrows tour, I think these are both very underrate and 2 of Neil's greatest ever live performances. Then my favourite live show The time machine tour live in Cleveland, LA VILLA STRANGIATO, LEAVE THAT THING ALONE, WORKING MAN with its reggae start, all from THE TIME MACHINE TOUR, LIVE IN CLEVELAND, then one of Neil's final great performances WHERES MY THING, HERE IT IS live in Dallas. Best wishes from the cold wet north east coast of England.
Check out “Leave that thing alone”, live version. Amazing!!!!!!!!!
Fun fact: YYZ is the airport code for Toronto, which is where the guys are from
They were just having fun and that what it should be
Working Man Live in Cleveland, La Villa Strangiato, Xanadu- Exit Stage left (check out Neils kit) Natural Science, limelight, Neils from solo- Frankfurt. The list goes on and on!
One of the best live performances ever recorded. Rush was always at the top of their game. Since Neil’s passing, I can’t watch a live performance w/o getting teary-eyed.
The crowd is singing to the melody of Alex’s guitar.
neil peart's solo live in frankurt is insane
another wicked instrumental live is la villa strangiato
Best three man band ever!! Neil Peart was the best drummer of all time!! None other will ever be able to compare to him. 💖
