      @Volcarion 2 роки тому +7

      @@sirapple589 well, that is proper empire building, now isn't it. you spread your culture where it can take root, and take the best bits of the subjugated culture. the Romans didn't wander into a place and say "you play by our rules, and only our rules"; they would pray to the native gods, and change their own mythology to integrate the local gods into their own pantheon.
      for example, when the Romans took over Egypt, they added to their mythos that at some point, when the titans or the some great cataclysm was occuring, the Roman gods fled to egypt, and wore animals' heads to hide their identity. the Cult of Isis (fertility and home/hearth goddess) was an important goddess in Rome and Roman provinces long after Christianity and Islam took hold and wiped out the cults of the other gods like Jupiter/Zeus or Neptune/Posiden.
      a long lasting empire knows what's good, and welcomes the good, even when it is foreign. Rome and Persia both figured this out

      This is also extended to their military
      If the Enemy had some superior weapon, warcraft-design (boat, wagon, whatever)
      or strategy the Romans would steal it and use it themselves.
      But they also were pretty moronic with how they then implemented them sometimes.
      Like in the first Punic war, where they stole their Enemy's Ship design.
      But they didn't train their soldiers for
      sea... well anything, so that caused issues. When their soldiers finally were sea safe, they again ran into Issues because... they didn't have any sea warfare strategies, so they got bodied.
      And then they invented a means for boarding the Enemy's ships, which did solve that problem.

This meant the buttons shattered in the freezing Russian winter and the soldiers couldn’t close their coats. I feel like focus fire happens a lot on table top wargames. You wanna get the big scary or the things you dont like off the board as fast as possible and you dont want shots to bounce so you have a tendency to dump overwhelming force onto single key units with the hope of erasing them before they put their value into the fight.

    • @heirofaniu
      @heirofaniu 2 роки тому +8

      Mostly it's due to health points. In most games whether they be tabletop or video games units don't go down with a single hit and even a unit with 1 hit point will deal just as much damage and be just as resistant to further damage as a unit with all of it's health points. There are a few systems that don't work this way (Battletech, Advanced Wars, and War Thunder are the three that immediately come to mind) since in those systems wounded units will often lose some amount of functionality but in the real world a single penetrating hit has the potential to be a mission kill at the very least and so concentrating fire is inefficient.

    @ShadowCalic 2 роки тому +67

    Regarding the little bit about wargaming simulations and all that, for the most part it's actually more effective for tanks to each acquire their own individual target rather than concentrate on a single target, because more often than not a single penetrating hit is all that's needed to render a tank inoperable if not outright destroyed.
    Say, 15 friendly tanks find 15 enemy tanks and each of the friendlies take a shot at a the 15 enemy tanks, if all shots hit and penetrate, you ended the battle in a single volley. Compare to 15 friendlies fire on a single tank, you'll have to fire 15 volleys to end the fight if the surviving enemy tanks don't return fire in a coordinated manner like in the first scenario.
    The reason focus fire is a decent tactic in WoT is because the tanks have health points. It's unlikely for them to die to a single shot. And as long as they are alive and their gun is in play, they still deal as much damage back as if they were full health. And even then, focusing 15 shots on a single tank would still be somewhat wasteful, compared to lining up enough tanks for a sure kill on a single volley to get rid of as many guns as possible as fast as possible.

    Day one, in socialized healthcare societies (no healthcare is truly free, you pay with your tax dollars), do not get sick on a Sunday cause you'll be out of luck with your local clinic. Going to the hospital, you wait in triage. Meaning you get judged by a nurse to determine how important you are. After waiting to see the nurse, you then have to wait to see the doctor .That nurse will tell you if you have to wait 2 hours or if you have to wait 10 hours depending on how busy they are. A guy with a broken clavicle waited 5 hours before getting a turnaround. The hospital said they couldn't do anything and he had to go see an orthopedic the next day since it was the weekend. Another guy was waiting 9 hours for penicillin. Another with a broken wrist just walked out after waiting 4 hours.
    Day 2, let's say John wanted to get a blood test done to check his cholesterol levels but he doesn't have a family doctor. So he goes to the clinic. Most likely you'll find a line of cars out the driveway. And once you get in, more waiting ensues to see the nurse. Buuuuut if you aren't sick, they won't see you. Not even for a blood test. So, you will have to go through the intensely difficult process of getting a family doctor, might can see one in 2-3 years if you're lucky. The nurse recommends he see a private clinic, which will cost roughly $900. AKA, she recommends paying for better healthcare, which is what we do by default in America. This CLSC was open between Monday and Friday from 9-12, so they were already too late.
    Day 3, at the CLSC John is told "if you have money, some day you will see a doctor." The government employee recommends seeing a private clinic.
    Maybe he's the odd one out, though, so what about other Canadians? Diane's mother had circulatory problems with her right leg, but they ended up ruining that one as well so she had both legs amputated. She needed an operation for well over a year, but they never did it. Once the year past they tried unblocking her left leg, but ended up blocking the right. They waited and waited and so now, no legs. They even cut off the healthier leg before the worse one. Had they operated perhaps she could have kept at least one of her legs. There are people who need MRI's right now, but can't because they're missing the proper equipment. So far everything has been "free," but what happens when she needs a wheelchair? Additions to the house to make it wheelchair accessible? A lift for their car? She says if she had known it would have taken this long, she would have absolutely been willing to pay for better healthcare.
    Back to John many years back, on a Monday he stepped on a rusty nail at work, so he went to the local clinic to get a tetanus shot. He waited and waited, and once he saw the doctor they said they ran out of tetanus shots, to come back Thursday.
    Baby Hayden was very ill so her mother took her to the hospital. It was a gastro, which usually lasted about 12 hours for her, but had been going on now for 2 or 3 days. She was lifeless and lethargic. They waited 7 hours before they got seen. When she got seen, they told her it's just gastro and sent them home. After going home, Hayden's fever got worse and her mother began to worry. So she took her baby to the children's hospital where it took 2 hours just to see a nurse. They ended up keeping them for almost a week.
    Matthew has to see a dermatologist. He would wait anywhere between 5 and 7 months to see the doctor, and only about 3-5 minutes to be diagnosed and get a prescription. But, the meds ended up not working, so he had to be put back on the waiting list again. He got so discouraged he ended up not making an appointment at all. It could take a year or more to get the medicine you actually need.
    These are just a few of the millions of stories from Canada. Considering the AVERAGE wait time to see a specialist is 17.3 weeks in 2008, and over 2.8% of the population is on the waiting list to receive treatment, there's bound to be a few unhappy campers! This is all because the Canadian healthcare system is overburdened. The "free" healthcare system is overburdened. And because of its inefficiency, it's underfunded. To keep healthcare spending to a minimum, they have to ration it. But at least it's free... right? Well, not really.
    In Quebec, a single-parent household that makes $35,000 pays 59.6% in local and federal tax. A two-parent household that makes $65,000 pays 47.7%. Compare this to California where the same pay 31.25% and 34.55% respectively. The truth of the matter is, a huge amount of tax is required to keep this system "afloat." Because, like all government funded programs, it's proven to be terribly inefficient. Even Claude Castonguay, the man who lead to created this system, has declared it a crisis and has acknowledged the need to eliminate the government monopoly on healthcare to allow more privatization. Also, the sales tax in Quebec is always over 12%, and even 15% over some of the other provinces.
    Here's how it works: In Canada, there's a federal GST, which by 2009 was reduced to 5%, and then each province adds their own provincial tax, like the Quebec QST which was a little under 8% in 2009. The problem is the provincial tax is only added onto the total AFTER the 5% GST is added on. So a $1,000 total with the GST added on would be $1,050. Add the QST and it's up to $1,134. So you are essentially taxed on paying taxes. But that isn't fare to look at statistics and numbers because as we all know, socialism creates a safety net for poor people to have a greater quality of living in all other areas of life... Right?
    Getting a footlong from Subway. At one point it was $5 for a footlong in America, in Canada? $8.99 before tax. A $25 order in Canada would be less than $19 in America. Everything, even before tax, is more expensive. It isn't uncommon to find a 30-50% higher price tag than here in the United States. In 2009 the average gas price was just shy of $2.64/gallon. In Canada it was about $3.83/gallon.
    So why not have both privatized and socialized? The problem with a 2-tiered system is that it creates a system where only the super rich can afford decent healthcare. Remember what the nurse said earlier? $900 for a private clinic visit to get a health checkup. And with the ridiculous income tax and sales tax and cost of living, the poor and middle class in Quebec don't have that kind of money to burn. The rich will always be able to afford the better privatized healthcare, while the poor are always going to be forced to pay for the deteriorating bad healthcare whether they like it or not. If they wanted to get private healthcare, that would be like an American paying for two separate insurance plans. When you remove choice, it's always the middle class who gets piped.
    And FYI, John never did get that blood test done.

    17:23 I agree with most points, but I also think that during times of war, like WWII, merit becomes a bigger factor in terms of promotion. Number one example being Admiral Willis Augustus "Ching" Lee of the USN. He went to the War College, was given a light cruiser command, then went to commanding the flagship of Battleship Division 6 and Task Group 12.2, BB-56 USS Washington. He later went on to be instrumental in the Second Night of the Battle of Guadalcanal, mostly due to his fundamental understanding of gunnery (he was an Olympic sharpshooter and naval gunnery is esentially sniping) radar (Washington's primitive version of what would later become what is now known as the CIC was in his quarters) that he often times confuse his gunnery and radar officers with how indepth he went. Washington sank Kirishima in one salvo (if Irecall correctly), mainly due to his intense training of his crue in independant thought (one gunnery officer ordered a firing of 'star shells' or flares to blind the Japanese fleet, which ended in almost 60 rounds being fired before the cease fire order could be given) and gunnery skills.

These models are usually always used and yes I hate myself. Also buy an AK.
