So Tudor is really out here attacking other brands rn...someone come pick up their man. So, does the Tudor Black Bay Ceramic have a chance at going toe to toe with one of the biggest watch brands owned by one of the biggest watch groups (Swatch)? Specifically the Omega Seamaster Professional 300m (in ceramic of course) I think...yes...but I'm interested to hear what you think!

Today, Christian and Michael address some of the hot topics in the industry right now, including why Tudor is going straight for the jugular of other, arguably bigger brands!
First up, though, we spend some time talking about Joe Biden's Omega collection, which includes a Speedmaster and Seamaster. Joe is no stranger to the watch community, with everything from a Seiko to a Vulcain to a Rolex Datejust in his collection. And really, as far as world leaders go, he has some of the best horological taste there is.
Next we move into Christian's inability to make up his mind about Hublot, which is hysterical just on its face. The watch in question is Hublot's new rhino themed piece in partnership with a charity that focuses on saving the rhino from extinction. At the start, just looking at the camo strap variant, Christian thinks it's an ugly watch, but upon further inspection of the green strap, plus noticing the small rhino on the sub-seconds, he turns around in an almost complete 180 and it is truly gold.
And now for the main event - Tudor going for Omega's jugular. The watch that raises this point is Tudor's new Black Bay Ceramic, which features nearly all of the same specs as the Omega equivalent Seamaster. The black ceramic case is a given, but looking a little deeper, the Tudor is also METAS certified as a Master Chronometer, which is something only Omega could claim for the longest time. With Tudor throwing their hat into that ring, Omega's sales people are certainly in for a dilemma, especially when you come to terms with that roughly $4k price differential.
Back to Hublot to talk about a watch Christian LOVES - the Classic Fusion Concrete Jungle. The watch is literally made from concrete (to be fair, a concrete composition modified by Hublot to make sense on a watch, but still...CONCRETE), and has a surprisingly minimal design given how out there its material composition is. But it's a real winner, in Christian's book.
Finally, the blingiest Rolex to ever bling OR Rolex, the 6269 Daytona in yellow gold with a diamond dial and bezel. It's the kind of watch John Mayer HAS to own, surely, and it's just really cool. Sure, it might be perceived as feminine on the surface, but ultimately, it's just a cool, kind of illogical, certainly ridiculous watch that represents a massive part of the Crown's heritage.

      They are succeeding.
Omega have thrown everything into the battle: coax escapement, METAS certification, limited editions, a wide range of products, the James Bond placement, and sales staff discount who like fishermen with yesterday's catch.
But still Rolex are viewed as being in a different class.
Rolex in return have throttled down production to add to the Veblen exclusivity, and released Tudor as attack dogs.
Tudor make really nice watches at attractive prices. Tudor make interesting models like the BBBH, they make excellent in house movements, they have METAS certification, and they are cheaper than Omega.
Omega hoped to create a "Rolex or Omega" decision point in a buyer's mind. Now they are in a "Tudor or Omega" position. That's not a good space to be in.

To start great video. I agree with a lot of what you guys had to say but as far as Tudor is concerned I don’t think you can simply make the case that Tudor is just a cheap Rolex. I understand that was the idea at its inception, but Tudor is not the same brand today. I greatly appreciate watch history and brand history and that does inform my decision when liking and purchasing watches. For me it has a lot more to do with overall value for money. There are lots of brands that command premiums that use very generic movements and and really don’t represent a great value. I believe Tudor offers value in spades. When you consider that they collaborated with Breitling and we get the same tech at 2-3k cheaper it’s hard to argue with that. I like Omega a lot and I think the Seamaster 300m represents a great value overall. I’m also a sucker for chronos but I think it’s kinda sad that the majority of Omega chronos have a very weak water rating. Another win for Tudor, and they offer this advantage at nearly half the price of a similar looking and functioning sport chrono. From a value perspective alone I don’t know how anyone can argue with the popularity of Tudor being justified. I love a lot of different brands for various reasons and I feel with Tudor you get a ton of watch for the price.

Don't get me wrong. I've owned about 10 of the most modern Tudor versions. I've always loved the Tudor's that have 3rd party movements in them. Give me a Tudor with an older A Shields/ETA when Tudor started, the ETA 2824-2, the Valjoux 7734/7750, and now the Breitling BO1 in the newer Tudor Chronographs. I didn't ask for these newer Tudor knock off Rolex Movements. I need Metas certification like I need another hole in my head. Yes Tudor, I get it. You've proved that you can do both Chronometer and Metas. Congratulations! Now make a watch with a Rattrapante Chronograph, GMT, and Annual Calendar, that has 200 meters of water resistance. And please keep the price under $7,000. Patek Phillip needs competition too.

Yeah, definitely. Tudor is not in Omega's league, and there is nothing mean about that statement. Tudor still makes nice watches. I just wonder if they would even be mentioned as trying to compete with Omega if they weren't Rolex little brother. Also wonder if they could get away with charging what they did if they had no affiliation with Rolex. They would probably be competing with Tag Heuer and Oris and so on. Must say that THIS year, they have released some very nice pieces...unlike big brother Rolex.

Tudor just needs to properly remake the Ranger in 36mm or 38mm. That design has history and you can use its story to define the brand’s differentiation from Rolex. The 41mm remake they did a few years back IMO had an ugly case shape and was way too big

The fact that you're even having this conversation shows just much success Tudor has in their marketing. I own an Omega SM and very much love it, but the simple fact that a watch nearly half the price of a comparative Omega has your panties in such a wad shows how effective Tudor has become...without really even trying. So much hand wringing for a brand that should by any of your measures be inconsequential....more and more free press for a brand that you would rather not acknowledge - but do!

Tudor is truly punching above their weight class. The Pelagos divers are what Rolex divers were in the 70’s, exceptional tool watches favored by soldiers and outdoorsmen. Speaking of the 70’s, I was a teenager then and that open shirt look was the calling card of a D-bag back then ,and is even more so now. Listen to your dad, sit up straight and button your shirt.

Regarding the ceramic watches, it’s an easy win for omega. The Tudor looks to much like a black lump and will age poorly when you scratch the pvd coating. For other watches I prefer tudors as they are less flashy but I would rather buy an omega.

As a relatively new watch guy, I am going with the Tudor Pelagos over the Seamaster. I just think the Seamaster looks dorky and outdated. It’s bracelet, waves on the dial, protruding helium escape and skeletonized hands all feel a bit corny.
