I have Norm jokes swimming in my head 24/7, and the other day my mom was making Ham for dinner. It took a lot of self-control to keep the joke inside all day, but when dinner was ready I said, "My doctor said I need to get healthy and that I should start juicing. I don't think he meant ham juice though.".
I actually forgot Norm had passed away, like double bummer, the 1st time I found out in September 2021, and today because I'm 48 and have short term memory loss, RIP NORM McDonald, a true legend of a comedian, and human being!
So glad I got to meet him at my job before his passing. I almost called him Turd Ferguson when I was checking him in at the gate at my job. He has such a great warm presence, even for the short time we met.
That's great. Norm exuded that spirit. I walked right past him once without realizing it until later. He was by himself fiddling with his phone. I wish I had noticed him earlier so I could have shaken his hand and told him how many moments of uplift he gave me and thank him for it.
As a late beginner in doing Standup comedy I spent many nights sick with a sickness watching Norm MacDonald clips/bits. He provided a lot of healing to so many. He was an “against the grain” comic and we loved him for that. I just wish/hope he could hear somehow on how much he means & meant to so many
All the best and I'm talking mount Rushmore comedians loved and respected norm. That's says all you need to know. Pure conviction of who he wanted to be.
My wife and I were dying when Jeff roasted the prisoners. When he told the women she had to get back to the country bear jamboree. I almost pissed my pants laughing.
Norm was a true man of his time. The world was absurd to him, and he accepted whatever was reality when most people would not. For example being fired from snl. He took everything in stride.
I wish ppl would stop saying “Norm didn’t give an F”. There were certain ppl, and things, he cared very, very much about. Incredibly so. But if he didn’t care, he really didn’t care.
Norm never bombed. The audience simply didn’t get “it” on those nights. He was a deeply closeted bomber ;-). LOVE Norm and this one still pains me as it does most.
I recently heard Downey say that Norm was fired from SNL, because they threatened to fire Downey but Norm responded with I won't do Update without Downey, so they responded with well you're fired too. Downey said Norm only told him years later Norm was not initially the one being fired. But yes, the OJ jokes is what got the whole move to fire going. Stand up guy that Norm (double entendre intended).

Letterman did Norm a huge favor - they made a great team. Norm could play the straight man, and Dave could rip up Ohlmeyer and Lorne. And NBC in general. Norm is and was a class act, but that show was more than meets the eye.
Howie, Groundskeeper here. In the spirit of Norm and his Andy Kauffman-esque ability to always have an outer layer to the story you see, I invite you as my sole witness to a courthouse wedding (we each bring one and sadly we both have no family).
