I went to a comedy club near my house in Burbank CA. During the stand up act the comedians mostly bashed Trump on everything. I noticed that the crowd was mostly clapping and cheering but almost no one was laughing. It was a political rally and not a comedy show.
I went to two Roger Waters The Wall shows years back. Best concerts I’ve ever been to. This was during the Obama administration. SNL has never been worth watching, going all the way back to its 1975 debut. If you wanted real comedy, comedy that was innovative, thoughtful. well-acted and finely well-written, then you watched SCTV. Not for nothing, but Norm McDonald is a perfect example of an alleged comedian. In other words, perfect for SNL!

No, it’s not a world view- but who cares?! I don’t give a flying fluck about a comedian’s “world view”, A comedian is free to use Trump’s almost daily actions as comedy. I may want to hear LESS of it, but that’s all. I do know I watched a recent Norm MacDonald thing and was pretty meh about it, This is just about a comedian who leans Conservative not wanting to hear do much Trump humor.
I remember watching this after Norm died. The amount of comments I saw saying disgusting shlt like "reap what you sow" & worst of all "Hope it was painful" Truly sickening gloating when this comedy great passed away
Never heard any of that, and will pretend that it doesn't exist. Norm was an exceptional human. To quote Larry the Cable Guy: "I don't care who you are, that there's funny"
I am Italian and we don't have a great stand-up culture, so for a long time I could not get this man humor. After a while I started to understand that he is a truly comedy genius; just listen to what he says in this interview about comedy, imitating self parody, bad comedians taking advantage of this Trump situation as opposed to good comedians that want to avoid the subject, etc. Man, Norm McDonald knows a lot about his own field, more than I would have expected.
Seth Myers is the proof anybody can host a talk show. Read the jokes (written by the writers), briefly talk to sidekick or band leader ( prepared in advance), ask guests pre-determined and agreed on questions making believe they are spontaneous, say we'll be right back numerous times, deliver your best phony laugh numerous times, say goodnight.
Norm and Bill Burr and Jerry Seinfeld are all great because you can tell they’re upset they’re basically forced to defend Trump just because of how ludicrous the other side has become, but they’re dedicated to the art of comedy and common sense
Yeah all the stuff he does isnt ludicrous though, right? Anything that isnt a mental patient can see that he is not smart, not a good person and has no clue what hes doing.
“If you do an impression of someone, you have to like that person, yeah know, because your playing the person and people like themselves. You can’t play someone and have contempt for them at the same time.” -Norm Made me think.
His best insight is when he said that ones heart can break for more than one person at the same time. The context of that one was polarizing as phuck, but Norm kept it as sensitive and human as it gets, so much compassion and intelligence in one comedian.

That's LITERALLY what Colbert has been reduced to. I've watched him just to see how many seconds he could go without mentioning Trump. All he has to do is say the name and his braindead audience instantly clap and cheer like automatons.
Bit late on this: This reminds me of Team America: World Police. Parker and Stone both were asked why the film had no Bush jokes, and their response was "If you want a Bush joke, go outside and walk five feet. You'll find it. Everyone's doing it, it's just not that funny." Hating the current president is always the fodder for bad comedians. And when that becomes the routine of bad comedians, they can only hope the next president will be as hated as the current one, or they've got no material to make money off. They drag down comedy as an art form just to pander to that lowest common denominator and make that easy money. They're no different than every woman on OnlyFans.
Norm MacDonald is just so UNDER RATED !!! Also very cerebral and right on target here. I was LMAO when he took the phone call, and even more when he signs off "I love you" which is just hilarious. Thanks VERY FAKE NEWS !!!
He is not underrated. He is just not that profitable. Also, other comedians see stand up as a step on their carreer, not norm. He likes the art form. I think he is where he wants to be.
Apparently one of the last true great comedians... Not afraid to call out lesser comedians for their lazy, heavy-handed BS "comedy" that's only enjoyed by people who don't like comedy.
Cheap anti-Trump jokes are just as bad as Jon Stewart's cheap kiss-ass Obama "jokes;" they're just pandering without any relevance to facts. "How dumb is Trump, right?" is just as bad as "How great is Obama, right?"" Particularly since Obama sucks, and Trump rules!
JR Thomas what do you mean? a comedian is just a comedian. hes been in many things including SNL and he has his own show the norm macdonald show. hes one of the greatest comedians of all time and a lot of his stuff goes right over a lot of peoples heads.
norm is the wrong guy to comment on this as he is simply not very funny. he was not funny on snl and the ratings started dropping during weekend update. his t.v. show (the norm show) was not funny and was cancelled for low ratings. a second chance at a t.v. show (a minute with stan hooper) was cancelled after only 6 episodes. his movie (dirty work) bombed and his second starring role in a movie (screwed) did even worse. so now he's doing a podcast talking politics and making fun of more successful entertainers? just like the unfunny dennis miller. oh well im sure its a nice paycheck.
Seth Meyers is really cringeworthy and hard to watch in my opinion. How he got his own late night show is crazy considering the actual talent pool of really great comics runs deep. You would think that there is someone who is WAY better than him they could have got.
I actually really liked Seth. He is very cerebral and not for everyone. But he, like the rest of late night, switched from comedy to hate, and that is as unfunny as it gets.
The only time I liked him is when he and Amy Poehler did the news segment on SNL. He's just awful now...but still better than the clowns they have doing it now.
Plus they ditched Darrell Hammond for Alec Baldwin just because spite... Hammond was a better Trump impersonator but he did not hated him, so it didn't matter to SNL.
"Ripping on Trump has become a ratings Bonanza." Sure it has. That is why their ratings a dropping. My God, Comedy Central isn't even funny. It's predictable and their jokes are backed up by lefty political BS.
You're cherry picking a common occurrence to fit your narrative. Ratings for 90% of TV are dropping all the time due to the amount of media choices people have now. Fact is, if someone in the latenight pack wasn't picking on Trump, their ratings would be even further behind. See Jimmy Fallon's ratings drop while he didn't focus on Trump until recently, for proof.
Because when he was on the view they thought him answering a phone call mid-interview was a hilarious joke. Which since he's actually funny knew it wasn't.

Yes, and Bush and Trump are opposed in how they view global politics, so the left's opposition to Trump, proves, at the very least, that they only pretend to be "outraged" in order to destabilize the country when they don't get their way. Anyone who seriously opposed Bush, out of principle, would see that Trump is a rejection of the neocon agenda and would be grateful for that.
To the OP, I agree, I personally despite Trump's governance, but am sick of Trump jokes because half aren't even jokes. You can't just state a thing that happened and say it's a joke, or get some cheap one-shot in with no insight. I think Trump, like any topic, CAN be funny, but too many comedians forgot they're supposed to have insight beyond the average layman if they're doing observational, or they need to tell a damn good story, or at least use wit if you're being satirical. Its sad to see some like Colbert who were fantastic at satire while on the Report, but in the Trump era it really just comes across as bitching more than anything to me. And to the few above, if you think "global politics" is all there is to liking a candidate, that's incredibly short-sighted. Not sure why on earth you would think liberals would support someone who dismantles the health care and environmental laws, takes a hardline approach to immigration and cut taxes primarily for the wealthy to cut social programs. Those might be things you don't agree with, that's just a political point of view, but don't act shocked that "liberals" are acting equally outraged at Trump as they did with Bush, don't be that naive. In fact, going around and pissing off allies is one of the things many liberals directly hated about Bush, starting wars unilaterally and all that, and this is a return to those same instances, I mean in all of my life I can't recall ever potentially being enemies with Canada until now, so no, there's plenty of real things for liberals to dislike about Trump that isn't just "brainwashing".
Norm's philosophy on impressions has really influenced my general view on the "mean" side of comedy. If it's coming from a place of love, you can be the "meanest" jerk imaginable and it will still be funny. See Rickles. But if it's coming from a place of spite, no amount of "humor" is going to cover the stink. See any present-day late night hack. And if they aren't smart enough to take a fuck, then joke 'em.
His statement about how the Democrats said the election was safe from being rigged up until it didn't work out them; that's what made me completely disillusioned in US politics. You can call me naive for believing in the process beforehand, but all I know now is I can't make sense of it all. Don't really trust anyone.
There’s evidence of the dem primary being rigged. Anyone who says the general was rigged is a moron or they mean that the electoral college should be banned.
There's no evidence the actual election process was tampered with. The Russian attacks in 2016 were about disinformation, stealing DNC e-mails, conspiring with Trump's team to release them strategically (e.g. minutes after the infamous grab-her-by-the-pussy tape aired), and so on. It was Trump who insisted the process was "rigged", up until he won and suddenly he's claiming it was the biggest win since X and Hillary's 3 million more votes in the popular count were all fake.
Disinformation? You mean a few Russian trolls? We don't know for sure who stole the DNC e-mails, and your charge of "conspiracy to release them" is without merit. Also, the same intelligence sources who claim Russians broke into the DNC said that Russia TRIED to break into the RNC. Seems equal opportunity to me.. So, as you said, there was no actual election process tampered with. A lot of American leftists tried to influence me on social media. Isn't there something wrong with that? Also, you neglect to mention Russia also held anti-Trump rallies after Trump was elected. They succeeded in sowing discord because the entire Democratic Party bought into the crazy Russian conspiracies.
I have only just recently discovered Norms comedy. Man I wish I found his stuff before he passed, truly a one of a kind comedian. Such a unique style. I’m glad these videos exist to keep him alive in a sense
To me Norm isn't funny. He would probably be a good straight man for somebody else if he could wipe that smirk off his face, but alone he's not funny. But I do agree with him in this interview.
These observations are sublime. This is one of the best retorts to the anti-Trump madness that served to make our discourse, thinking, and humor far more damaged than Trump could ever accomplish of his own accord. Norm McDonald was an independent mind and is sorely missed.
@@morganm4768 Anti-Trump madness is very different from disliking Trump, which of course Norm McDonald may have disliked as well. Think through the entire premise.
Agreed. I'm not exactly a huge fan of Trump myself, but every time I hear comedians using him for material just to get a big round of applause I immediately lose total respect for them. Comedy should be about pushing boundaries, and "orange man bad" is just the lowest of low hanging fruit ever.
Kimmel and Colbert are good interviewers and are generally enjoyable when they're not doing political stuff. Meyers doesn't seem like much of a personality, but he's a good writer (co-creator of Documentary Now, one of the best shows I've ever seen). The only thing I know about Noah is that he sucks (although I've been told that his stand-up is good). The idiot thinks women soccer players should get payed as much as the men, completely disregarding very basic economics.
Colton Moore - What got him in trouble on SNL was his insistence on writing his own material. He admitted as such on Miller's show in between shouting out "cock" at every opportunity.

Went to his next show, Dark Side of the Moon album, mostly, another great album. Turned it into an anti-Trump show, and my dad and I couldn’t have been more disappointed. Probably won’t go to another Roger Waters show again.

@@foxontherun4754 HE doesn't like Trump really. I've listened to enough interviews. He never thought he'd win or he wanted to win, which I believe it true. He liked a guy from Calif
When a comic needs quick, cheap material they go after religious or political topics.
Religious and political topics are the best for humor - what are you talking about? What do you recommend? Joking about the best pet shampoos?
@@christophschwarzherz5909 yes jim gaffigan made hot pockets funny
@Charles - seriously you are really dumb. Alpha is right, only weak comics regularly rely on religion and politics for their material
@@SignalCorps1 you must be the life of the party - am I right? No? Ok, let's hear your joke without religion or politics and it's not fair if anyone under 10 years old laughs, Mr Rogers...
Eric Starnes yea cause George Carlin wasn’t funny right?
So true... most comedians are just lazy and know that Trump jokes will get them a quick and cheap laugh
Mr. Barrera real idiots are the ones laughing
In fact, going around and pissing off allies is one of the things many liberals directly hated about Bush, starting wars unilaterally and all that, and this is a return to those same instances, I mean in all of my life I can't recall ever potentially being enemies with Canada until now, so no, there's plenty of real things for liberals to dislike about Trump that isn't just "brainwashing".

nothing dotdlmsc not funny. Just true.
Norm finally got to do his joke from The View.
TURD FERGUSON RULES. 🇺🇸
"Yeah what do you want?"
Big cowboy hat. It’s funny
Hellll ya. That made me piss myself as a kid.
KAISER OUTDOORS WHY DON'T CHA GIVE ME APE TIT FOR 200
Spencer Kindra you buzzed in!
His statement about how the Democrats said the election was safe from being rigged up until it didn't work out them; that's what made me completely disillusioned in US politics. You can call me naive for believing in the process beforehand, but all I know now is I can't make sense of it all. Don't really trust anyone.
just assume everything you've been taught was been a lie
@Kevin L why are you so upset at FlintSparked? What did he say that was anti-left? Seems like you're a little sensitive...big surprise
"Nobody would ever wanna have a beer with Hillary Clinton." ~ Norm Mcdonald
"Cutting Through the Crap with Norm McDonald." I'd watch that, everybody would watch that.
Featuring Bill Burr hell yea I would
A civil, sedate Norm McDonald; a polite interviewer. All that is lacking is a video editor.
Not wasted.
Meh the phone call is the funniest part :p dont need edits :)
I was thinking the same thing! Some of those camera swaps were super random.
@@admwalkgmailcom dont ask me

"Nobody would want to have a beer with Hillary Clinton...!" HaHa!!!! GOTTA LOVE Norm!!!!
I am so glad I stumbled upon this interview! I got choked up at the end. I truly miss this man.
~ They wear their anger and hate on thier sleeves.
I like how excited Norm is to talk to his sister-in-law. What a cool dude.
I have only just recently discovered Norms comedy. Man I wish I found his stuff before he passed, truly a one of a kind comedian. Such a unique style. I’m glad these videos exist to keep him alive in a sense
Better late than never.
RIP norm. The dude always kept it 100
I'll always remember when NORM found all those DEAD HOOKERS in the trunks .
"Dirty Work" was GREAT!!!!!
Fully loaded.
G, SEVAAAN!
And Farley found that Saigon Whore that bit his nose off!!!
They were after his cheese sandwiches, surely.
Norm is a real comic I’ve always found him extremely funny!
To me Norm isn't funny. He would probably be a good straight man for somebody else if he could wipe that smirk off his face, but alone he's not funny.
But I do agree with him in this interview.
@@dlwatibOf course he's straight! He owned a doghouse.
You, however, sound like you don't own one.
These observations are sublime. This is one of the best retorts to the anti-Trump madness that served to make our discourse, thinking, and humor far more damaged than Trump could ever accomplish of his own accord. Norm McDonald was an independent mind and is sorely missed.
Well said.
It's not madness to dislike Trump. He's a terrible person.
@@morganm4768 Anti-Trump madness is very different from disliking Trump, which of course Norm McDonald may have disliked as well. Think through the entire premise.
@@morganm4768 Good thing hes not ur mom
Agreed. I'm not exactly a huge fan of Trump myself, but every time I hear comedians using him for material just to get a big round of applause I immediately lose total respect for them. Comedy should be about pushing boundaries, and "orange man bad" is just the lowest of low hanging fruit ever.
He did the phone ringing bit to his own brothers wife lmao
Trevor Noah, Seth Myers, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel....all hacks....scratch that, all unfunny hacks.
JEWISH hacks!
I used to love kimmel on the man show. I dont know why he sold his soul to the lefties.
what is your solution to the jewish question?
Kimmel and Colbert are good interviewers and are generally enjoyable when they're not doing political stuff. Meyers doesn't seem like much of a personality, but he's a good writer (co-creator of Documentary Now, one of the best shows I've ever seen). The only thing I know about Noah is that he sucks (although I've been told that his stand-up is good). The idiot thinks women soccer players should get payed as much as the men, completely disregarding very basic economics.
slappy mcbutterballs still have tv shows and you don’t, boom roasted
Norms one and only “Trump joke” is really smart and funny.
Too bad he didn't write it.
Ordonity - Actually, he didn't and admits as such. He got it from David Spade and both confirm it. Follow your own advice, douchenozzle.
It's still smart and funny and he probably tells the hell out of it
Colton Moore - What got him in trouble on SNL was his insistence on writing his own material. He admitted as such on Miller's show in between shouting out "cock" at every opportunity.
It's actually a Hillary joke, also.
Seth Myers isn't a comic, he is a suit with a body in it
Absolutely, he's SO DULL.
Glad somebody brought up Seth. I haven't watched a single episode but every now and then I get his show in recommended and every time it's Trump this or that. Just so bland, he has nothing on real comedians.
F*ckin Seth A$$face Meyer$.
Pure dweeb material
