he won a PT after forgetting to include his win con (tendrils i think) ... so he does know a thing or two about avoiding win cons. Also, he does a draft with Gabby where she keeps telling him to take win cons and he refuses to take one... then Gabby is shocked when he wins with no win cons. 10/10 win cons over rated if youre LSV.
That's how I felt about the Persist, already having Entomb. And Through the Breach. Could've pivoted to controlly reanimator without giving up much other than a duress.
@@malte54if he had took tendrils he could have drafted pack 3 different. if he got timespiral gush fastbond maybe rituals it would have been possible to move enough cards around to get there
Anybody remembers the corpse dance/siege gang wincon with infinite mana from palinchron? He got the gang and dance like 43th and 44th card and went 3:0 obviously. All while Marshall waiting for him to record LR...
This is exactly the kid of draft and deck that made me hooked on LSV drafting cube. This really feels like a return to form compared to recent iterations of the regular MTGO vintage cube.
I had the exact same thought, I feel like he genuinely forgot about spell pierce because he was treating remand as the higher priority counter (for the card draw)
One thing I love about this power max cube is the frequent trade off with picking part of a combo or picking an otherwise good card. You were faced with many high risk , high upside choices that's not a simply a function of "which card is better for the deck I have?". LED vs Forth Eorlingas in p1 Tendrils vs Lim-dul's vault in p2 JTMS vs frantic search in p1 (and more)
You had a mindset loss in G1. "My deck is bad, if I DT for Lim Dul I can fire it off and end this misery." You had the option of emptying the board with Jace and Liliana in play, plus a DT in your pocket. Against a fair deck, that's good enough. The opponent doesn't know you don't have a wincon. Jace bounce/Lili discard a few times and they'll concede.
I had a very similar draft where I was sitting and waiting for Oracle and chain of smog the entire time and didn’t get them. Absolutely tragic, I feel your pain.
yeah i agree that Thoracle has the best combos. Thoracle Decon is the best combo, but the backup combo of DD can easily be pivoted to because DD often wheels. DeCon seems to only be a high priority pick in pack 1. In pack 2, I've seen DeCon go pick 5ish. And in pack 3s, I;ve seen DeCons wheel. Playing DeCon as a tutor in limited is a bit of a liability but in a pinch, I think it is stil decent. No life loss, instant speed, and cheap.
Caustic Bronco over Underground Sea, then Mishra’s Bauble over Kitesail Freebooter, noting that KF might wheel, which it did. I think that logic would have tracked for the previous pick & you could’ve got US and CB, instead of CB and Botanical Sanctum.
Not only my man LSC shown no respect to tendrils (though i also don't believe in that because it's not really storm deck), but not picking TNN which is absolutely a creature card that can be a solo wincon
You got to really love Magic to even play one match with that first deck 😂 Total draft failure 😂 I would have just dropped immediately. I have been in this situation sometimes being reanimator. Going into the last pack not having any creatures. It's not a good feeling.
Right! I draft CABS decks in this format partly because I’m too scared of getting a nonfunctional combo deck, and I don’t have enough free time to sometimes just mulligan a whole draft. 😂
Seeing LSV miss blocking Urza makes me feel better about my misplays 😂…I threw a match by right clicking attack all when opponent has Emberwilde Captain in play (and I could’ve emptied my hand pre combat)
Same! I had one the other day where I targeted Keen-Eyed Curator with Pyrogoyf after double checking that they couldn’t grow the Curator in response - and they shrank the Goyf instead.
I'm @28:17 and an idiot. After the draft portion, knowing the run time, I was like, "dang, he done good with that pile!" But, then it dawned on me: he dropped and hopped back in. What was once the dread of an hour of durdling turned into the excitement of a new beginning quick. gg
I literally don't understand why lsv doesn't ever consider tendrils as a secondary win con if you don't get brain freeze. I know its harder to cast, but its still a win con, plus it's almost always a last pick. Edit: for the underworld breach/led combo.
One of the things Brainfreeze does in the Breach/LED combo is fuel Breach so that you can actually go off. Tendrils not only costs more mana and requires a higher storm count to kill but also does absolutely nothing to get you going while Brainfreeze with a storm of like 2 can start you turning your deck over if you've got LED already. Oh yeah, Brainfreeze can also dig for LED on a hail mary play if you really need to go off that turn, while hail mary Tendrils plays tend to maybe buy you a turn at the cost of most of your resources.
He didn't have much of a storm deck after he passed on frantic search and dark ritual. UWB/LED doesn't do much on its own without a way to dump cards into the GY to feed to UWB. But, just brain freeze alone with UWB and LED can kill with storm because BF can be used on yourself to fill the GY in order to cast LED a bunch and BF them. BF/UWB even without LED is a way to find the missing combo piece or LED. Plus, the Lim-dul's was perfect for the doomsday/oracle combo, cheap to cast, instant, and can cycle through the library for
@@kinginthenorth1437 good point, I forget that brain freeze fills your own graveyard, though at that point his deck was insane and had the choice of getting time warp after tendrils, so storming off though hard, is still something. Otherwise shouldn't tendrils just not be in the cube? Great point though! Edit: plus tendrils was literally a free pick.
Can anyone here tell me which settings LSV/ people in general use on draftmancer for vintage cube? Based on the draftmancer documentary I know I don’t want “replacement” and I assume “duplicate protection” doesn’t matter but do you want “color balancing”? That’s something that’s probably not possible in paper, so I probably don’t want it either, right?
I've been watching LSV since zendikar and he's still a very good player but there's no denying that he is making mistakes more frequently than he used to and it's costing him games and matches. Not spell piercing tge sol ring was really bad. Should have won that game against Urza since you would have been able to flashback lingering and flood the board with chumps.
These decks you're drafting of late (no win con, umpteen complex combos that don't come together, 4 colours and artifacts) are starting to remind me of my friend Andy. It's irrelevant who Andy is; point is these decks no longer remind me of one of the greatest players ever.
"This deck has no way to win." Ya, you'd never run a deck like that would you?

Why not spell pierce the sol ring M1G1?
There was a point where you needed to start taking creatures as plan B and yet kept taking combo enablers 😂
Why would you not spell pierce the sol ring?
This man is a gambler watching his life savings going down the drain until that last pack.
