    I watched so many drafts that my kids call LSV "The coffee Guy" because of the intro..

      On a related note, I watch MTG videos every night as part of my sleep ritual and as a result of subjecting my girlfriend to years of this she can identify LSV, Reid Duke, Andrea Mengucci and Magic Aids purely by voice 🤣

    I think Fair decks are more powerful in this format than people realize. When everyone's trying to force busted combos the likelihood that you end up with a deck that's held together by a hairpin is so much greater.

      Fair and unfair have always been kinda weird this way too me, it quickly becomes very semantic-y imo. Getting killed on t2 from a Boros deck with Crypt WPA and Forth is far from fair. That being said, I know why we use the words, but I just find it funny.

      Absolutely. Especially since the disruption is so good. Black and white have been killer for me in this iteration with the hyper efficient creatures such as white plume adventurer and the discard/exile creatures such as deep-cavern bat.

      also the combo decks aren’t necessarily good. there’s not a ton more fast mana then usual and no extra tutors. i’ve had plenty of good combo decks just not draw fast enough and get destroyed by agro

    • @BirdNatureView
      @BirdNatureView 3 дні тому

      There are a lot of 2 card combo's. You can draft fair and pick up one of the 2 pieces early and hope to find the second.
      So I don't know how many are actually ttrying to pull off insane stuff.
      But a consistent curve and good mana will always win a decent amount of games.
      Some players take all the powerful stuff they see and at the end they realize their mana is screwed.

      Fair cards have gotten so much more powerful the past few years that unfair decks often lack the time needed to do their thing.

    Turns out when everyone is hype to draft broken combo, and the cube doesn't support 8 combo decks, agro plows thru the goldfish!

    I'm convinced MTGO conjures a Sol Ring into LSV's opponents' opening hands as a handicap.

      Almost seems so :P My last draft was obscene... 4 moxen XD (thanks to time vault and glee mox there are 2 more cords in the cube that will/can be picked over "regular" moxen so it feels like I'm getting them passed a bit more commonly)

    I have a question for more expierenced Magic folk than me (fairly new to 1v1 magic). Imagine you are playing rw/rb aggro on the play. T1 you play a one drop like maybe DRC/Ragavan.. and your opponent drops a Hierarch/elf/manadork T1. T2 you have a removalspell for one mana (bolt..) and two premium twodrops(Ajani, robber of the rich..), rest of hand is irrelevant for next 2 turns. Is it better to "bolt the bird" but waste one mana on T2 and T3 because you can only play a two drop on T3 or is it better to wait, play your premium two drop on T2, play bolt and play twodrop on T3. Second option "saves" two mana, but disrupts later. Help would be appreciated. :)

    • @VoodooDuck
      @VoodooDuck 3 дні тому +1

      Just answering to see the responses :) but personally think tempo is more important so 2. Option, but depends on whether they are running board wipes etc

    • @zacharyenglish2904
      @zacharyenglish2904 2 дні тому +7

      Notably, if your one drop is ragavan you bolt the bird *and* play your 2 drop. Or their 2 drop.

    • @christopherlundgren1700
      @christopherlundgren1700 2 дні тому +2

      A third option might be to simply attack into the dork and see if your opponent trades, although I guess if you do that, you’re pretty much committing to the two drop anyway.
      If I specifically have Ragavan, I’m bolting the bird every time. The 2 damage is whatever, but the treasure and the chance to hit a relevant card are too good to resist. Plus you can just play a two drop anyway because of the treasure, if you want.
      But if it’s not an attack that’s generating as much momentum as Ragavan, then it better be a really good 2 drop. If they were planning to play a 3 on their turn, maybe even keeping their hand based on that opening, it could really foil their plans to take out the dork. I think I’ve convinced myself that I’m usually bolting the bird here.

    • @jordanrutledge7943
      @jordanrutledge7943 2 дні тому +1

      in the case of ragavan, you bolt bc then you can play your 2 drop anyway with the treasure
      In the case of DRC, I would play my 2 drop most of the time i think
      If my 1 drop is less powerful, say usher of the fallen, then I might offer trade and play 2 drop if they take it, then bolt if they don’t (bc it means they must have a big 3 mana or 4 mana spell they really want to accelerate

    • @christopherlundgren1700
      @christopherlundgren1700 2 дні тому

      @ I like this thinking. Offer the trade, and then remove the creature anyway because they want it.

      He still got the Kellan didn’t he? It just wasn’t a premium pick and didn’t make the main deck. I think it’s a medium card here - costs so much mana to turn it on all the way.

    • @nolifeSnorlax
      @nolifeSnorlax День тому

      @@dementievatz I'd compare it to hexdrinker hoenstly. Yes it's expensive and you can be punished but it just finishes games in a hit or 2 once leveled up.

    • @dementievatz
      @dementievatz 22 години тому

      @@nolifeSnorlax That’s not a bad parallel. I was also thinking of Hired Claw from Bloomburrow, which was in a recent version of the Cube. I thought that one was too much mana investment to be great, although at base level it’s kind of a 1-MV 2/2 with upside. I think Hexdrinker is generally better since it protects itself as you level it up. Kellan dies to everything at every level.
