14:20 yessir. I like the “normal” vintage cube just fine, but the optimal strategy in most seats is tending to be “draft the hyperefficient threats” a bit too often. I like some proper durdling once in a while.
Agreed. It seems like the best way to play the MTGO cube is to take mana very aggressively and to play as many cards that threaten to end the game as you can get. 5 mana used to get you slime ball, mulldrifter, Baneslayer. These cards were good but they wouldnt end the game. Now you have Sheoldred, Minsc, Nadu, cards that threaten to end the game if not answered immediately.
I would love more throwback cubes. I wanna see Muldrifters and Jace the Mind Sculptors and Oracles of Mul Daya. Replace some of the worst cards for sure, but keep the cube power level such that those cards are solid picks and I think it would be really fun to see interspersed with the more explosively powerful cubes. Also I think part of the loss streak is that the current cube is so punishing to bad draws because of how powerful it is. Combined with your opponents being high quality there's much less room for you to overcome variance.
I was just thinking that if I would curate a cube list a power level where muldrifter is good would be the dream. On a semi-related point, it feels crazy to me that Goblin Guide is not powerful enough for current lists
I really do enjoy throwback Cubes. Honestly, I really enjoy variety - and it's nice not seeing everything be Fire design or all Modern Horizons and Commander set cards. I enjoy seeing fully modern cards, but this is a fantastic change, and I think a healthy mix of each is fun. I do think 2- played draft formats are also fun places to do some of the weirder Cubes too.
For the fiend for feedback: Love throwback cubes. The flashback Invasion drafts you have done are some of my favorites. I can really tell the love you have for the game when you talk about how Jilt is amazing
I would love to see a pre-2015 cube with no cards printed after Magic Origins. Generally after that set that things started to go crazy with super-pushed straight-to-modern sets
Luis - I would love to see some throwback cubes. I have watched your videos for 10+ years and started playing magic in 2013. I have so much nostalgia for that era and would love to see a cube that was no cards from the last 10 years or so. Back when JtMS and sulfuric vortex were busted - but with you making changes to the list the way you have been for the current version. TY for the years of content!
Love different cube varieties. Calebs powered synergy cube from awhile back, throwbacks, or just restrictions of only standard legal sets. Your vintage list is always the best, but variety is good.
I definitely enjoy watching 'goofy cubes' (I mean deliberate attempts to make a different drafting experience like Caleb Gannon's synergy cube, not so much memes like mono-colored cubes). But also, it seems like you really enjoy drafting with all the most powerful stuff, and I like watching what you enjoy.
I LOVE throw back vintage cube. I would love those types of videos. I really enjoy seeing some of my old favorite cards be good again (shout out Mulldrifter). I think its more fun to draft than current vintage cube, too. The power creep just makes it frustrating sometimes. I 3-0d yesterday with a monogreen rofellos + craterhoof deck. Being able to green sun for hoof and actually win the game, plus not have rofellos die immediately every time, really felt amazing. Haven't been able to do that successfully for a couple years now.
About 14:23 ; I dont like this cube list in general, but am very much in love with throwback cubes. I feel like high power gets cheesy somehow, with card that you must answer right away or lose. I believe you removing the Initiative from your list prooved that. A highest possible power cube HAS to have the initiative cards since they are game warping, just it made for stale games and often warping games around who gets to keep the initiative. With those cards you can really point to a card or mechanic that is guilty, but with a highest power cube, i feel that how you play and how you deckbuild is less about skill expression and more about luck of the draw and luck in draft. I am very fond of your arguments about how No More Lies is the perfect draft card, very powerful, niche, you get rewarded for prioritizing manabase if you want to splash it. With cards like Forth Eorlingas in the contrary, you just have to play it, it does not synergize just blatantly powerful. We already have power (power9++) crafting a list with oldies that make for more creative and rewarding deckbuilding is to me the charm of cube. Putting pet cards in the process is a very big bonus!
I'm by no means nostalgic for old cube, and the modern cube is a lot of fun to watch. Still, to me the cool part of this video, and I think the cool part about other cubes in general, is seeing strategies that don't or can't exist in the current vintage cube. Birthing pod is a great example - it's a very cool card with interesting draft/gameplay implications, and it's fun to see it in a situation where it's actually decent.
LOVE the throwback cube~ I really stated watching your content with old cube videos on channel fireball, and I just love watching mid 2010's cards. Seeing them shine + modern cards is super fun~
I think Priest of Titania is there to help the mono green decks compete against the combo decks. It is definitely a weird inclusion though, because of things like BoP, Noble, Ignobale, etc. I guess it makes the Llanowar Elves and Elvish Mystic a bit more desirable, but...yeah, it's really just a worse Rofellos.
Absolutely love throwback cubes like this, a lot of archetypes and cards I miss playing with. Pod was one of my fave cube cards. I think doing a once a week throwback cube would be a nice way to mix things up, if your draftmancer buddies agreed of course.
Definitely throwbacks. I've mostly stopped watching videos and have been reading instead. I saw this title with Pod and clicked immediately. Cube is to play stuff you don't see anymore. The new cubes are all about the most broken old stuff, and new cards. Seeing cards like Jackal Pup just puts a smile on my face.
Throwback cube, like this, is great. So happy seeing birthing pod and also interesting seeing the cards that have bled away over time. Maybe do some "vintage cube from 20xx" or something. Do a few drafts from each year, would be a fun way to look back. I wanna see some old storm decks with high tide and minds desire.
When it comes to variety on the channel, I don't mind stuff like this every now and then. My favourite thing to watch remains your current vintage cube list, but on that note, I would really like to see you draft and pilot more different decks from that cube. I'm not a lurrus hater, but I am getting a little tired of seeing it quite so often (I would love to request an attempt at Abzan Lurrus though, I really do think there's something there). I'd also really like to see some different archetypes or color combinations from the cube drafted, if just to see how well they can play. Thanks for the videos as always, and good luck with the twins!
I really like to see a throwback cube now and again. There are so many cards from the past that we all love and miss - Karn the Great Creator, Riftwing Cloudskate, Craterhoof Behemoth, Wildfire, ... Also miss the stips you used to do with Gaby :)
I've been a cube connoisseur for way over ten years. I first thought i hate this cube but i love it. I can finally do braids/smokestack shenanigans again, cast wildfires, have a sphinx and draw more cards. It's amazing. And I'm at 6 or 7 trophies now and for me this is a lot
Oh, the nostalgia. I'm all for seeing old staples and/ or powered down versions of vintage cube. Even alternate lists (such as my own *wink) that are closer to the Arena Cube than the current iterations of Vintage Cube would be fun to see in action. It's a nice change of pace compared with vintage level mana cheating and racing to the most broken thing either player can put on the stack. Definately like how you're branching out more on the channel, LSV.
What a cool idea for a cube! I kind of miss the days when Izzet Signet was a high pick and ramping with Rofellos into Terastadon was a legitimate strategy! I'm sure it would get old after a while, but every now and then a "throwback cube" draft sounds like fun. As a starting point you could just copy and paste a MTGO cube list from 10 years ago or something
I would love to see more different cubes. It was a while back (I don't remember how long) but I remember there being a synergy cube that I watched Caleb draft and it looked really sweet; would love to see different cubes like that in addition to flashback ones.
I watch almost all of your cube videos, and basically none of the modern stuff. I really like the throwback cubes, the more up-to-date cubes, the theme cubes as long as they're not too whacky. I personally really hate Initiative with an unholy passion, but I do think the correct call is all the imitative cards or none of them. Having the 4 drop initiative cards, and snubbing Whiteplume seems like a goofy decision when you also have Black Lotus in the cube. In short, keep the cube videos coming, and throwback is Cash Money as far as I'm concerned. I love the videos, win or lose, GL with the new twins and thanks for all the great cube content!
I would love to see a throwback or retro cube every once in a while. There’s a lot of archetypes I loved to watch that aren’t viable now-storm, lands, Cheons. It would be fun to see those sometimes
I would also love to see more throwback cubes where cards like Opposition, Wildfire, Braids and Metalworker, were playable and archetype-defining. In my opinion, these cube list with slightly lower power (but still powerful) were the best and it's sad that we rarely get to see them being played anymore. In addition I would love more throwback drafts, especially the invasion block. :)
This was a favorite vid of last few weeks for me - love this style of magic. Get Smokestack and Winter Orb viable along with this and we are really cooling
Was just thinking of something like this a month or so ago - not just nostalgic cubes, but cubes where the proactive cards are not as good at getting both tempo and value at the same time, so it’s possibly more worthwhile to draw cards or play removal, which was fun to watch when it was how Cube was.
I think throwback cubes are really cool and a fun way of making a vintage cube seem even more "vintage." staring to play on the divination server and enjoying the current LSV cube so far! I think for a throwback vintage cube to work, it needs to be really well tuned for people to not miss the more modern cards
You got me into cube many years ago with those videos of you forcing wild storm decks, so I'd love to see some cube lists which allow for that kind of thing. Personal favourite was when your only win con was infinite mana, corpse dance, siege gang commander 🤌 The old high tide decks were great too.
Vintage cube is my favorite but I do love a variety of formats. Love watching arena cube drafts lately. Duel commander has been fun. I’ve watched every video since the channel has started I’d probably watch you cook eggs man. You’re awesome Lsv!
Loving the content variety lately. Vintage Cube is my favorite format, but I love seeing you play anything. Any chance of seeing you play Standard ever again? Your old standard videos were some of my favorite content of all time.
I do miss the weird storm days where it wasn't good, but when it came together it was insane. I love a good high tide into palinchron into whatever win condition.
So I am 1000% into throwback cubes, throwback drafts or so on. There are so many variations of cubes that are very interesting to build and play. Like, mono-color cubes, only common cubes, combo focused cubes. Or even some cubes that are based around a certain time in standard, or even a block-constructed cube. I doubt most of that appeals to LSV (goofy cubes being a no he said) But even the more traditional throw-back/interesting cubes would be a fun side-dish. Seeing a throw-back draft of like, Original Ravnica or like, a custom Invasion draft? Dunno how easy that stuff is to setup but I do enjoy seeing such things. I would say like. Having a day or two each week devoted to like, "Guest spot" and "Winston" and "Let's go crazy and do something differnt" could be fun to see. I assume most people wanna see powered cube as the main thing but hell, a lot of people come to watch you LSV because your personality, your skill, your character and public persona is something we are all fans of. You could likely read through the phone book, as the old saying goes, and still have views. Not as many of course but you get my point I assume? Oh, and you've designed a few card-games yourself right? I swear I recall you were involved in some of that. Showing off some of that sometime (if your interested) might also be cool to see. Oh and you absolutely -have- to do an april fools video where you play hearthstone or Dota or something people would be "what noooo!" about haha.
I definitely like it when you mix the cubes up. I appreciate that you mostly play the high powered, modern cube. But it’s fun to hear you adjust strategies when older cards are in the mix (or just when the cube is a weird one, like mono red cube)
One cube you should consider is pauper cube. It's surprisingly powerful and has a lot of really cool strategies. My friends and I are Vintage cube junkies and tried it on a whim and now we're hooked.
Pod is one of my favourite cards of all time. I'd be all for a slightly weaker cube list but with some old throw back cards that maybe are a bit more synergy required. One that comes to mind is Opposition as well. I love that you have a dynamic powerful cube that is always trying to be as close to optimal as the drafters themselves get better (from an already good base), its own meta is expanded on, so previously thought good cards may show to not be as strong, and there are some cards you've shown to be great that on the eye test I didnt think that going in. So with all that said - yeah, if you had you own "somewhat tuned, but also some classic favourites return" list - that would be a great look.
From your recent content, the Duel Commander videos stick out to me the most as something I would like to see more of. But other than Standard drafts which I don't care much for I like all your videos, so you do you.
Love different cube variations. One of the most appealing parts of cubes for me. I am currently planning a "core" set cube. Alpha-10th Ed. + Magic 10-Magic Origins + Core 19, 20, 21 and then Foundations when it comes out. Love curating different ideas.
Finally some actual vinatage cube. Not a fan of all the weird space marines and “bonus sheet commander cards” that has turned vintage cube into a creature centric arena cube. Classic old vintage cube that rotates in a few cards from the latest set that actually was in the set is the best way to do vintage cube. Splinter twin etc should be evergreen while all the special drop stuff mostly should stay in other formats 😇
Agreed, except for the part about Splinter Twin being evergreen! 😆 I dislike fire design and the Magic cards based on non-Magic properties, so I'd be really happy to see more of this cube list (or iterations of it).
@@sjake8308 haha fair but was more of an example. I like that a core of cards can be in but a percentage is there to rotate and create some variation while also promoting the latest cards but lately it feels like many of these cubes have gone other directions 🤷♂️
I very much enjoy the different varieties of drafts - Even more so do I enjoy when you’re able to post constructed. Its been a bit since any vintage/legacy content, but I loved your 1v1 commander videos
I like seeing birthing pod in cube again. A lot of the other weaker old cards don't interest me too much, but stuff that enables archetypes we don't normally see nowadays is fun.
I love sprinkling the games with some throwback cubes: maybe some older version of the vintage cube (like 2013 or something). I also love the weird cubes like the monored one but those can definitely be hit or miss.
I love the throwback cubes, I think a full power cube with the initiative back could also be fun once in a while. Would be fun seeing sandy bring out the old school white weenie
Love to see retro cubes, I would love to see the original MTGO cube with and optional add of Conspiracies and other “Draft Affecting” cards like Cogwork Librarian
I think a throwback cube every once in a while is a nice change of pace. I think sprinkling in a constructed video (standard/pioneer/etc) would be great too.
Honestly, I love throwback cube. Seeing cards like Oracle, Finks and Pod is so much more fun to me than a bunch of overtuned Modern- or Commander-only cards that tend to end games in 2 or 3 turns.
I think it would be super cool to see some other cubes too! My friend had a super wacky mono blue cube that was fun and might interest you. We also have a pauper cube which is a lot of fun and worth checking out
I would love to see an updated Initiative cube list! I understand why you don’t care to play it all the time, but it makes for awesome play when you’re passing initiative back and forth!
I like seeing the retro cube. A lot of the commander and UB cards are cool too but it's nice to see the oldies back in action once in a while. I'd enjoy interspersing cubes that show magic from a variety of power levels or angles.
a lot of cards that I think of as cube staples -- Ophiomancer, Fractured Identity -- are early commander cards. was there a hey day for cube before those?
Pro throwback as something to mix in. different play patterns are exciting, as many have pointed out, singular threats have gotten so good things feel more random and less brew-y
I've been putting together historical cube lists, those of eras gone by for friends who were busy in that Era or were too young to experience some of the lessons I got to learn playing cube.
I'm into the retro cube honestly. The modern cube content is good, but it has been feeling quite one-note with the threats just running rampant. The casts you did with BK of this cube was some of the best stuff you've done on the channel so that certainly helps.
I would enjoy seeing team drafts with the current MTGO vintage cube, with some changes to remove the chaff and replace it with cards on a similar power level to the overall cube. I like the current vintage cube more, but variety is always good, and this throwback cube is a ton of fun.
I love this. As much fun as the Vintage Cube is now, it is tiring to see the same New cards everywhere. Love me some oldies
Exactly this - nostalgia is great, but as a nice change up, not replacing the new card cube.
So agree
Fully agree with all of this. First thing I thought of was "a cube where JTMS and Oracle are great picks"

I like that idea generally but not as a rule. I feel like cards like Reprieve for example would fit perfectly in a retro style cube
Exactly what I was going to say. No holo-rare-sticker cube is what we need
I want to live in a cube where Jace TMS and muliduli are exciting first picks.
Birthing pod is the throwback Lurrus deck
Luis - I would love to see some throwback cubes. I have watched your videos for 10+ years and started playing magic in 2013. As someone who played a ton of mtgo holiday cube and legacy cube back in around 2014-15, I'd love to see more of those sweet old cards being played.
It would be fun to see a team draft of a throw back cube variant.
Love different cube varieties. Calebs powered synergy cube from awhile back, throwbacks, or just restrictions of only standard legal sets. Your vintage list is always the best, but variety is good.

To be honest I prefer this cube list overall, though I would be happy for the Initiative and Monarch cards to go die in a ditch.
That time out win...chef's kiss! My mind was telling me to activate chariot on their turn just to squeeze another 5 seconds of their clock.
Anyone down over ten minutes on clock deserves every bit of clock gamesmanship available.
@@michaeldegrave5905 That's not always true: Some of us have crap internet, for instance.

I absolutely would love some occasional old school cube videos. I go back and seek out several- year- old videos for that reason
I definitely like it when you mix the cubes up. I appreciate that you mostly play the high powered, modern cube. But it’s fun to hear you adjust strategies when older cards are in the mix (or just when the cube is a weird one, like mono red cube)
Accidentally drafting the most perfect pod deck is great! Damn, that card rules.
One cube you should consider is pauper cube. It's surprisingly powerful and has a lot of really cool strategies. My friends and I are Vintage cube junkies and tried it on a whim and now we're hooked.
Yes, more throwback Vintage cubes please. Also into the idea of no Commander or Supplemental product. Could be really interesting to watch.
I would love seeing some different cubes. Personally love Pauper cube and would love to see you guys give it a shot!
I like it when the cube around efficient busted creatures so this was cool. You’re drafts are also my favorite
I love the throwback cubes, I think a full power cube with the initiative back could also be fun once in a while. Would be fun seeing sandy bring out the old school white weenie
LOVE the throwback cube idea. Yes please. MOAR POD.
I like some different card lists for cubes, once in a while, as a treat. Retro or whatever. Nice to see a wider spread of cards in play!
At what mana coist would birthpod be good enough for current cube? Would 1 mana birthing pod 1 phyrexian green activation be good? Miss that card
I like seeing a wide variety of cube content including things like the legacy cube if that ever makes it back into the rotation.
Honestly, I love throwback cube. Seeing cards like Oracle, Finks and Pod is so much more fun to me than a bunch of overtuned Modern- or Commander-only cards that tend to end games in 2 or 3 turns.
Watching you get wrecked by variance makes me so happy when you win like this. Proud of you 🙃
I love seeing the older cards, I have my own cube and have been contemplating limited the number of new cards I add each set
I think it would be super cool to see some other cubes too! My friend had a super wacky mono blue cube that was fun and might interest you. We also have a pauper cube which is a lot of fun and worth checking out
Would really love to see you team draft some other cubes! CubeCon had a ton of interesting ones. Try a desert cube!
I for sure enjoy variety in the content. It doesn't necessarily need to be different cube lists, although I do enjoy those as well.
I looooove me some throwback cube. Hits right in the nostalgia for me. I'm working on a "Magic Peaked in 2015" cube list myself
I would love to see an updated Initiative cube list! I understand why you don’t care to play it all the time, but it makes for awesome play when you’re passing initiative back and forth!
This cube feels so awesome. Love this style of cube. Just a lot of the coolest cards
Love anything cube you record. Anything with older cards too.
I'd love to see more of a cube where we might get some of the old style storm decks from time to time. Those were always a favourite.
Pro throwback as something to mix in. different play patterns are exciting, as many have pointed out, singular threats have gotten so good things feel more random and less brew-y
Would love to see more of this!
This iteration of the cube is fantastic
14:29 yeah Luis I really liked the throwback cube, it’s actually the first cube that got me start Magic Online and get off only using Arena.
Great vid! Why the black bar at the bottom which almost cuts off the cards in your hand?
As a person who has gone back to watch the Lorthos draft within the last 6 months, yea I’m down with throwbacks and nostalgia.
I would love some variety cubes. The Mono-Red Cube (even if it was just in a Winchester draft) was pretty cool to watch!
I've been putting together historical cube lists, those of eras gone by for friends who were busy in that Era or were too young to experience some of the lessons I got to learn playing cube.
Yes, I like seeing throwback and other cube varieties! More cube options is fun!
I'm into the retro cube honestly. The modern cube content is good, but it has been feeling quite one-note with the threats just running rampant. The casts you did with BK of this cube was some of the best stuff you've done on the channel so that certainly helps.
Yes throwback cubes please! Pull an old cube list where storm and other fun decks were totally draftable. We love that stuff!!
Retro cube is sweet. It's nice to see some of the cool old cards be playable again.
I personally love seeing these classic cards seen in nice thoughtful play patterns, so i would want to see maybe even Premodern cube potentially?
I would enjoy seeing team drafts with the current MTGO vintage cube, with some changes to remove the chaff and replace it with cards on a similar power level to the overall cube. I like the current vintage cube more, but variety is always good, and this throwback cube is a ton of fun.
