Godamn. Another era has ended. Now that it's over, I just wanna get some thoughts out on the series as a whole, saving the personal bits for last. So first off, I have never seen xcom glitch out to this level before, like, how on earth you survived the fucking throng of enemies at the end of the mission is beyond me. The willpower and genuine strategy it took to not only finish but beat this campaign is nothing short of legendary. It was a perfect and fantastic end to the series and I'm sad to see it go. My wife is too. I started watching you before she did, but we went through a rough patch when we were dating. And to get our minds off what happened I introduced her to this series, and she loved it. We laughed and got sad and had a wonderful time. This series, and this channel, will always hold a special place in our hearts. Best of luck in future videos Ed, my wife and I will be behind ya the whole way, laughing our heads off.

Of all the xcom series out there (mine included), yours is without a doubt the best out there. Youve set a new bar, one that few will be able to achieve. But it'll inspire so many creators to strive to make videos as sophisticated, breathtaking, and full of heart as yours. Ed. 3 years ago I stumbled on a channel that took the game to a different level of modding beyond reason and later storytelling that. If I'm honest longed for. Back in the way old times when the yogscast made the series of shadow of Israifel I was captured by the story it was bad and years later. I found you. You have outdone yourself and brought a new chapter though all the hell both mental and physical that life has thrown at you. On behalf of everyone for giving us a wonderful story and being a light for everyone. I thank you. Thank you for giving us another chapter. I wish you luck on the future and know a lot of us are right behind you for all the glitchly cluster fucks that will come your way. Again Eddie. Thank you.

This ending is bitter sweet. Even though I was late to the party (you were a good way through before I found your channel), I'm glad I hoped on when I did.
Man, I don't even really know how to feel. What an ending. It felt like every episode just kept getting bigger and bigger and this finale didn't disappoint one bit.
But also, like, are you okay? I know you drew on some personal stuff there at the end, bc damn, dude, that hit hard. Definitely take some time to rest and recharge, you deserve it.

The OEM drama is 100% real - yes, he literally did split off IRL sometimes and yes it WAS indeed creepy AF to my friends and fam. He was born because I wanted to hide from the world by being an online success and effectively "outrunning" adult reality. As that clearly wasn't happening (cos law of averages & YT saturation), the pursuit got heavily toxic, and so thus did he.
Ed couldn't possibly achieve the dream cos Ed's just worthless, thus Ed was in the way of the great work now. Look at all these other people who make it to the Creator Job stage faster, on less effort etc. if it was just ANYONE but pointless Ed, everything'd be great.
However, whilst true, it's also old. I haven't been in that place since about 2017. But mental health aside, OEM was just a bad move. Between the OTT voice turning people off, SpiffingBrit overlap (accidental, I didn't know of him) and generally just Brexit and UK's grumpy attitude in public eye. I've wanted him gone since 2016ish, but the character had fans by then and I was scared to disappoint. Now in the age of SoW:Discount, X-MBR, streaming etc. I know Ed is just as marketable if not more than OEM, so it's ok to end it, and since Ed is gonna need an Antiseptic / Darkiplier - Damage was born from that past material.
After over 3 years, it's finally time to close the book on XCOM. It seems like yesterday you were critting Poorlock with Gill on your tiny 4 man squad. Thanks to this, I got into XCOM and play it constantly. So many good memories from this series, so many laughs. Looking forward to where you plan on going next!
I think I speak for everyone when I say that we'll all miss this absolutely glorious series. This series was my introduction to your channel and it reminded me of why I love this game and the insanity that follows with it.
I know the OverEnglishman name is also buried now but let me be the one to say thank you for being such a legend.

I cannot BELIEVE it took me nearly *two years* to watch this episode and finally finish your wonderful XCOM series.
I started replaying XCOM 2 lately and suddenly remembered your series out of the blue and how much fun I had watching it, and how much I looked forward to each new episode. Coming back to this years later, I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that this episode was worth the wait. This series was phenomenal and I will never forget it.
I hope life is treating you well because you deserve nothing less.

I started watching a little over half-way into the series after hearing about you from sethorven. My god, I loved every second of what I got to see. The first episode I watched when it was uploaded was "Storm's A Brewin'" and I was ecstatic I got to see it and stayed up till 12:30 am to watch it well past when I should have been asleep. This series is certainly one of the most unique XCom playthroughs, mainly because of , in your own words, "The sheer parade of pain." I didn't even know multiple rulers were even allowed to spawn on one mission, on top of 6 sectopods, all 3 chosen, and multiple ruler-reaction avatars. It took a far bit of skill and many "Bold Strategies" to get through this run and I'm glad you got to see it to the end. On top of that, the your writing layered over the top of that is phenomenal. You took an element of modded XCom that is usually just a funny joke; the glitches, and turned it into a story. That is what makes this series so special to me and to others. God Bless Ed and I'm excited to see what you do next.

Apologies for the wait time - I didn't want it to be that long but when every episode takes FOREVER to record, cut up, fix up, sellotape together etc. any small life-knock is magnified. Future series' shouldn't be as susceptible thankfully as I won't be having to cut and re-sync every. few. seconds. because lag made the audio slide out.
@@EditEdward No apology needed. Quality takes time, I know this first hand. I participate in making machinimas (movies made inside a videogame), and we've been working on our next big project for over a year now. In between writing scripts, casting voice actors (make sure that the voice actors deliver their lines), organize filming sessions and then outright filming. It takes a fuckton of time and mental strength. Either way, thanks for the content, and see you on the next adventure.

Once upon a time, before anyone ever expected XCom to make a comeback, I stumbled upon a Let's Play of the original X-Com: Ufo Defence by GuavaMoment. I never were interested in let's plays, and back then, they weren't that popular anyway.
This one was different.
It was written, with only screenshots to help the story. It -had- a story, a narrative, self developed by the author, and intervoven into the game. It was amazing. I devoured it, and two fore, for TFTD and Apocylpse.
When the new Xcom was annouced, and came out, I won't lie, I was waiting dor the author to make something with it. Alas, he only said that with how the new game was build narrativly, it would be impossible to interject a new storyline the set pieces were just already decided. And, I had to agree - I couldn't see how you could write and plan around a story that was as set as the new Xcom seemed.
You prooved both of us wrong.
From an even more restrictive narrative of Xcom2 with WotC, you (and the chaos you brought with mods) created an amazing story that someohow both 'works' with not just the game's narrative, but also created a meta-narrative on top of that. You surpassed that first let's play,.
You gave us an amazing story to follow, a climax I will remeber (and reccomend to whomever I can) and injected so much personality and characters to what, with all those mods, shouldn't even work that I can just say I stand in awe of your creation.
Thank you, commander. Whatever you plan to do next (chimera squad wink wink nudge nudge) I will be here for you. Don't burden yourself with my expectations, as I cannot imagine thr amount of work that had to go into this, you already done what I didn't even expect to be possible.
Now, just enjoy yourself. You deserve it.

Holy shit mate, what an ending! I've been following the series for a couple of years now (I think like 2018? I don't know, time has no meaning anymore) and I'm always absolutely amazed at the amount of effort and care that you put into every single one of these episodes, it's a huge task and to watch it reach its conclusion is simply breathtaking, from the story you created to the sheer insanity of the fights and the metric shit ton of mods everything is fantastic and comes together beautifully to offer what is, in my opinion, the greatest X-COM 2 run ever committed to video.
You should be proud Commander, you made it.

Holy hell man this was one crazy ride from start to finish, I still fondly remember stumbling across your channel while looking for XCOM 2 vids after good ol' Sethorven recommended em, and boy was the journey fun, and chaotic. I honestly doubted you could have made it past up to the final mission with all those mods. Glad to see I was proven wrong time and time again. Seeing some regular favorites die in missions was always a pain to see (especially since I played XCOM on and off). Thank you for bringing this series to life man, hell of a ride indeed.
So I only found your channel a month ago and it was with this video. It’s kinda strange how I always find really good UA-camrs at the end of their series. It was the same thing with Seth and Tog. This series is probably one of the best written UA-cam stories that I have ever seen and that is saying something.
The way the story changed with things that happened in the game was amazing and how you made the game glitches a thing in the story is just so cool to me. After finishing this and just being completely taken away from the story you where able to tell here it just amazed me how more people don’t know about you. I hope that one day you and all your hard work is noticed.

Shadow of War is next on the block after a short break to complete the rebrand to Edit:Ed and make a TL;DW video explaining the X-Lore and channel shift.
Hinted Game is sort of prong 1.5? High(er) edit, but not as high as X or SoW. But that game for example has near ALL dialogue delivered by radio and subtitles. You can imagine the fun I can have with that.

Now that has gotta be one of the best stories ever watched, to many this might be seen as just a crazy man playing a video game.. but to me I see a great man telling his story of him overcoming the impossible and being able to move on from the past and away from the things that were keeping him down most and with the help of his XCOM *family* we was able too.. as no matter what happens in life.. your never alone, there will always be someone for you even if it's just one..but that one person can make your life so much better, and I just want to personally thank you for making me and everyone smile with your work, with your amazing quirky personality and voices which I just adore! Heh.. you've helped made my life easier and I'm sure you've done the same with many others, and now I hope in a way we could perhaps help make life easier for you. Anyway, whatever happens.. I hope for the best for you and hope you keep being yourself and be happy as you deserve it! Thank you again..
Not all of us forgot Commander... Its tough, seeing the world finally freed from ADVENT and knowing your to thank for finally, finally fixing things and be forgotten. To see another man in your place. You went through hell, and something tells me things may be getting worse for you, but i know you, Commander Edward.
Every lose you pushed on, every tragedy you kept. on. going. Even at your lowest and worst you NEVER stopped. You pushed on and clucthed victory from the claws of defeat so many times. So... You keep fighting, Commander. Keep on going and someday, eventually, you might... No, i KNOW you'll make it back and EARN your rewards and praise.
Till then, every victory day, i guess i'll just have to crack open a cold one in your name and celebrate the real victory.

Bloody hell if I didn't spend two days watching three movies worth of content catching up. Might have done it in one if my computer hadn't glitched and crashed the moment you went for a hack during the tower mission. Just fantastic all around, to the point I almost feel like there's no point in me playing XCom 2 ever again cause even if I was to do my own MBR run, not bloody likely seeing how my computer died just watching your videos, it would feel like nothing compared to all of what you've done. Cheers for all your hard work and cheers for your future, whatever it may bring.
This was honestly such a good ending to an amazing series--I wasn't aware of a lot of the stuff surrounding OEM, but now that I've read through the comments and gotten some idea, I'm glad you were able to do this. It felt like an excellent send-off to the series and to the persona, and I hope it was as cathartic for you as it seemed!

Can we take a second to appreciate that intentionally or not, this man cannonized every single xcom campaign that ever has, and ever will happen and made it all a part of one grandeos story written using personal hardship and trauma to propel the main villain? This stuff is genuinely genius and I get chills every time I hear Ed's voice. Nice job dude, this is really a work of art.
Absolutely intentional. Since it was impossible to make a storyline of “this is the one true Xcom campaign” I went the opposite way, they’re all true at once.
I'll miss this series it always brought a smile to my face.
This is, without a doubt one of the best series I have ever had the pleasure of watching. Some part of me is sad it's over, but damn if it wasn't fun while it lasted. I wish you all the best, Ed, what a wonderful show.
The journey that you have taken to make it this far, in-game and in real life, is unique and special. You've been in a multitude of highs, lows, and in-the-middles that brought you here to this moment. We found you, have wanted to stand by you, and will support you however we may.
The internal struggle of Ed and OEM/Damage is beautifully visualized where many wouldn't know where to begin. You shared with us that in the begining that you weren't in a good place when the character of OEM was made. I think this was the best possible sendoff: to show through OEM the desperation, the toxicity that existed at the time vs. you now and the end of listening to the lies.
You've grown so much in the duration of this channel and our own friendship, and I couldn't be more proud of you. Here's to you and your re-branding, your health, and your PC that desperately needs a break after all the insanity it endured. Take a break if you need it, and if you don't, keep doing amazing things without working too hard. 🎉

I commend the amount of editing work you must have done to make the episodes what they are. You had a VERY interesting final mission, and I'm almost sad I didn't get a beat-for-beat showing of it. Was good, though.
Nice bit at the end, too, bringing it back to the rather serious-to-hilarious opening of the first episode.

Now I know Endgame's going to be parodied for basically forever, but this was a good one.
I think all truly epic projects like this sort end in a bit of self-therapy and realization. And of course moving on afterwards in a new way. And when it gets far more meta in the process? That just shows how deep things go. Reality crumbled inch by inch, things crawling in from outside and ripping the seams wider, then reality finally gave way. ...and it gave birth to the new reality.

Guess that's it eh? Heh... you really saw this one through Ed. It's gonna be weird to not have any new episodes of this to wait for, but every good story deserves a good ending and... well... I don't see a better ending than this.
