You pick up the bounty because she is a neutral npc. When you attack her it is assault and once she comes in range of the guards she "reports" your crime. The way NPCs report your crimes in Oblivion is very wonky though. You could kill a NPC in a basement and somehow he will report you to the guards before he dies. Anyways, I think what happened here is really the system working the way it is intended for once lol.
It's really wonky, speaking as a sneaky type class there is times where I'm sneaking and can stealth kill a person in broad daylight Yet I try it on someone sleeping and a guard manifests behind me to arrest me
“Wonky” is the nice way of putting it. It’s more or less downright broken. It really seems to be entirely arbitrary whether or not you get a bounty most times. I’ve hit someone and had them yell for the guards but managed to stop them prior to them leaving their house and got no bounty. Yet I’ll snipe someone from the shadows with a bow while entirely completely concealed and all the sudden have 6 guards yelling “stop right there criminal scum!” within seconds. And I’m talking about just regular NPCs in the world here, not anyone special who may have some behind the scenes modifier of some kind.
@@Yomom12388 also animals report crimes and unlike NPCs they don't even seem to have vision cones for not seeing a crime, so they will literally see you commit crimes as long as they're loaded in, it doesn't even matter if they can't allegedly see you. (can't believe Skyrim sort of fixed that one by giving animals a crime FOV and morality so they won't report theft.)
@@Putrescence420 IIRC the good ol' Unofficial Oblivion Patch changes Umbra's morality so she doesn't report her own assault and ups her aggression so she's not considered a neutral NPC and can be pre-emptively killed like bandits.
You can actually kill umbra very easily in the room you find her. All you have to do is flip a waste basket over on the table and jump up on the broken pillar then hit her with either flare or arrows

Umbra actually has two sets of armor. One is available if you kill Umbra between levels 1-14 and is equivalent to orcish armor. The other is available at level 15 and is actually ebony quality.
I'm not a fan of the leveled items tbh, i prefer unique sets to have a static level. Rarer items being stronger. Or have quests locked behind a level requirement
@@latewizard301 There are multiple de-levelling mods for both oblivion and skyrim that achieve something to this effect. Most quest level reqs are dropped, save the ones that make sense (I'm looking for a powerful champion, and uh... level 1 doesn't cut it) and enemies are levelled by cave/fort/whatever with absolutely no concern for player level. Quest rewards are always the max level for the item, and the overworld is either globally levelled (oblivion) or regionally levelled (skyrim). I think they're good mods for a playthrough or two, but using them made me understand the ultimate decision to make everything, everywhere levelled: the roleplaying component of enemies being static is not a good enough justification after that point. The game inevitably gets more locked into a set order of play if you make areas effectively inaccessible until higher levels, and areas that you miss until you're overlevelled become a walk-through.
@@latewizard301 I liked how Morrowind handled it. You would get demolished in some areas but if you managed to survive you could get daedric at level 1
@@natelax1367 I like when it's a mixture of leveled and unleveled. Give me a proper challenge at every level, but give me some enemies that are ALWAYS strong! Also a thing I want: unique quest reward items that "evolve" in tier tied to the player's level. They did it with Dawnfang/Duskfang tracking enemy kills, it can't be that hard or costly to have a few checks that give you the item's levelled tier version that matches your level tier. and update it when you hit the next tier and have it in your inventory.
I think it works by.... You hit the Npc, it will remember and project an aura to other AI that they have been attacked by you, thus other People/Guard AI Scripts will provide assistance against you the Player Faction. AI respond to help out the party that has been attacked, if you walked into sightline to trigger aggro, then Npc has the openly attacked player and friendly AI will come to your aid instead. Umbra, she may not be a hostile faction to most AI even though she is openly aggressive idk.
Yea, if iirc the "proper" (or more "proper" way) is to have her initiate combat on you then run into town, that way the guards will take the PC's side in the fight (making her "hostile aura" not also be the "has been assaulted aura", so the guards might intervene on the PC's side); assaulting Umbra will not do this (as shown in the vid).
She's not openly aggressive though. If Micky had befriended npc's in town, they may have taken his side before guards got involved and then guards would choose to protect the npcs rather than protect umbra

After replaying Shivering Isles and finding a way to let him live, he didn't really seem all that grateful for it, so I killed him again, and I subsequently stole all of his bones that he owned and dumped them at the Adoring Fan's feet, now he has something to nibble on when I'm gone.
Umbra swimming underneath you like a shark is hilarious. I also appreciate the Sledgehammer MIDI.
Ngl when this expansion came out I didn't learn about the arrows or the tears, I just brute forced his ass. Took like 5 reloads and a good chunk of my healing pots lol
I really enjoyed this! Especially the music you added to the fights and the ni ni ni ni... X3
Bro the Peter Gabriel thing is hilarious
A boy, thirty whole minutes of suffering.
Micky: There's a way to buff strength.
Me: Sujamma?
I'd pay to see Logan Paul fight the sun-baby from Teletubbies. Probably the least controversial thing he's done.
"I like this Micky D fellow, but there's just something missing"
YOU COULD HAVE A STEAM TRAIN
"OK, I'm in"
I came here for the video, I stayed for the 8-bit Peter Gabriel...great stuff as always homie.
This video was super nostalgic for me. When I first was first playing oblivion I was like 10 and really dumb so I never leveled since I didnt know how, lured umbra into the poison chamber and did that same thing then brute forced the gatekeeper because I didnt know there was supposed to be a proper way to do it.
Timeline of the video
0:00 - 22:30 killing umbra
22:31 - 29:00 getting strongth
29:40 - 29:51 literally shittting on the gatekeeper
That chiptune version of Sledgehammer is fucking great.
Mickolas Dee, what a fine lad.
Dammit Mickey. I just got sledgehammer unstuck from my head and now here we are. What a good tune for a great vid!!
Micky D + Oblivion = Great UA-cam viewing ♥️
Love the music during combat segments. Great way to break up the quiet :)
In the room Umbra is in, there's a broken pillar in the center. You can climb the pillar and spam fireballs at her. Takes a long time, but she can't hit you.
Ya know I had just seen your meme a few months ago and now you're posting videos and I really enjoy your content, man!
Amazing. 29 minutes of set up for 15 seconds of challenge.
NI is how you say no in the Argonian language... So that lady is yelling no over and over.
FANTASTIC editing here mate! Keep it up
When the setup for the challenge is harder than the challenge itself lmaoooo
The editing is great in this one :)
I love the running Peter Gabriel bit.
you can jump on the broken pillar in the room umbra is in and shoot her with arrows till she is dead. You can only get up to the pillar though if you have a movable object to jump on.
This was so much fun to watch, thank you for consistently making enjoyable Elder Scrolls content!! :) your videos are inspiring to me!
More Mick = More Happiness
lol I thought he was getting in trouble for being naked in town!
Loving this schtick! Keep at it :D
Honestly my first time playing the dlc I just went straight into fighting the gate keeper and beat him then every time after I just did the same and I completely missed the awesome bone arrows you get for years XD
Bro you went all out on this one!
Great stuff Micky D
This challenge should have just been called "Can You Defeat Umbra at Level 1?"
