I always loved how Rythe takes a moment to throw shade at the thief's painting skills. "It looked like a troll, but it was badly done." Lmao. One of my favourite quests in the game for sure.
My question is, if the brush is an aedric artifact that does the painting for you based on what you imagine, how were the thief's painted trolls any more or less badly done than Rythe's paintings? Had he never seen a troll before? Does Rythe have a photographic memory? Does the brush only work properly for those who have been given it willingly by the previous owner (i.e. Rythe's father passing it down to him)? Either way it's a hell of an insult. Rythe basically called the wood elf "too stupid to visualize a troll" meanwhile there are literal picture books (at least in Skyrim) showing what a troll looks like. Also, wood elves are supposed to be masters of wildlife, yet he was STILL too stupid to imagine a troll. Wow. I guess the Cyrodiilic thieves guild really do hire anyone these days.
@@lsswappedcessna Perhaps the brush still works based on the skill of the painter, it simply doesn't need to be put to page to make the magic happen, and allows the painter to enter the unfinished painting to do fine details on a more macro scale. Both would be very useful to a regular painter, I suspect, and absolutely vital for one who'd lost use of his arms.
Aw dude, A Brush With Death is my FAVORITE Oblivion quest, and one of my favorites in gaming in general. I figure it's because I'm an artist that I love it so much. Short but sweet. Really fun to see someone experiencing it for the first time.
Wow, unknowingly coming across the painting quest was one of those gaming memories that has stuck with me forever. Between it, seeing Oblivion's opening for the first time, spending FAR too long grabbing and throwing the chains hanging in the cell (remember "physics" was still a new thing back then), and a lot of other things made Oblivion next level great in my younger eyes.
This quest holds a special place in my heart and is probably the most memorable quest I've ever done in any game. Oblivion was my first ever RPG 14 years ago
I wandered into that painting at low level, and didn't use the turpentine. Took forever of smacking them as much as I could and then running away. I always accidentally did things much harder than they needed to be in games when I was a kid.
To be fair, Oblivion's leveling system is a little bit special. I can't blame anyone for just running around and somehow doing the entire main quest by level 3. I'm level 1 in my current save and have already gained the first mercantile perk from doing the scroll glitch (yes it works even with the unofficial oblivion patches) and selling the scrolls, soul gems, and other stuff I duped. Every time I play a Bethesda game I have to cheese it. It's a rule I live by. Also why in the hell is this nearly 20 year old 32 bit game with 25-ish mods and the 4GB patcher more stable than unmodded Fallout 4? It's not a hardware issue, my computer might be 2 years old now but it has 32GB of physical memory and 12GB of video memory, and has a step down from flagship (in 2022) for the GPU and CPU. This thing running Oblivion is the gaming equivalent of using a gantry crane built to load and unload shipping containers from a cargo ship to pick up a Honda Beat for an oil change, instead of three guys and some cinderblocks.
Played Oblivion on release and ever since, the quests that stuck in my memory back then more than any other were "A brush with death" and "Whodunit" from the dakr brotherhood. Good memories
Yeah, "a brush with death" was a core memory for me for sure. Just being a little kid and going INTO a painting. It was so surreal and kinda scary. Like you are somewhere you aren't supposed to be. I got that feeling SO much playing Oblivion to be honest lol. Like when I would uncover torture rooms in the castles I would be so scared. Like, "I shouldn't be here, what have I uncovered". Or going to Oblivion and feeling uneasy because it was "unnatural", and there was no place safe. As a kid there are SO many moments in this game where it kinda just takes normal and completely flips it. When I was a kid it hit hard lol. There are so many times where things seem normal for a little bit, then things just go completely crazy. As an adult it all seems pretty obvious now, but when I was a kid all of these things felt shocking and like a huge deal lol. Like I remember doing the mages guild quests and being disturbed and scared out of my mind when first encountering the necromancers. It felt like some huge deal. Another core memory for me is probably the elder scroll heist from the thieves guild. Good times, good times.
I think what is happening is that the younger generations are stumbling on these games and are generally vibing with it. A younger kid today I think doesn't have many new single player games. Plus the old elder scrolls games are just so jam packed with goodness that people are really starting to respect them. Not saying Skyrim is bad, but Morrowind and Oblivion are just so loveable with their quirkiness. Something about them is mythical, ethereal, and just weird/zany. So I think older people are reminiscing, and younger people are enjoying uncovering these games and elderscrolls lore. When I think about it there aren't really any other games like elder scrolls. Elden Ring and Dark Souls are the closest games I can think of but they are still different, and amazing games in their own way, but elderscrolls has its own brand of fantasy that no other game replicates. It saddens me that Elder Scrolls doesn't seem to lean into it's weirdness as much anymore. I am really scared for Elder Scrolls 6 to be honest. For me what has always made Elder Scrolls special is just how unique and weird it is. Morrowind is just so far from the fantasy norm, but it works so beautifully. I hope Bethesda learns to lean into that, I don't think they will and that's a shame.
@@hhjhj393in my case, I tried playing oblivion as a younger kid after being used to Skyrim, and each newer elder scrolls game I’d say gets more and more… user friendly? Mechanics from oblivion were odd and more difficult to pick up than those from Skyrim that I was used to so I definitely struggled. Then I got older and I’ve been absolutely in love with oblivion because my now almost fully developed lobes can handle it lol. I now love a lot of the oblivion mechanics and features more than some of the Skyrim ones.
@@hhjhj393 For the longest time I was scared of the leveling system and how, unless you micromanage your skills, it can lead to some level curve bullshittery. I've had Oblivion in my steam library for at least 6 years but am now just getting into it for real.
One thing I love about Oblivion is the fact that no matter how many times you have played the game, there is always something new to explore. I personally played these specific quests before, but a lot of people haven't and there's still so much more about the game that I and many others have yet to find out. And watching videos like this one is a great way to show the hidden cool stuff to others. Thanks for great content.
I love that a brush with death kind of feels like a joking nod to the fact that most of the paintings in the game are filtered screenshots of real in-game landscapes. The quest just gives that "hyper-realism" an in-universe explanation through Rythe and his magic brush (I guess all the paintings we see are his? except maybe portraits). idk that was just always kinda cool to me, not sure if it was intentional or not haha
To add context to the seemingly pitiful stash in Two Sides of the Coin, the rumors that start up the Corruption and Conscience cite a 5 gold fine for littering, with the added note that "I barely make that much in a year!" So if we compare 5 gold to just under a yearly wage for the average citizen (somehow), then 40 gold plus the value of all the other loot is El Dorado by comparison.
I felt like Jorundr was kinda crooked too, he probably lead you to a fake stash to bait the guard out because he knew bro was listening in too and take the real stash's location to the grave. Just my theory tho lol
She says he threatened to kill her, and then asks the player to do that. so, we know she was telling the truth there which makes her more trustworthy imo
You're not alone in thinking those bears are tough. I also did the quest at a pretty low level and resorted to trying to lure a few bears into a fight with some ogres, but instead of fighting each other they all chased me together. I had to jump up onto Thorley's roof and ended up getting a few levels of destruction training.
A brush with death was always a fun one for me. But then again, I loved the colors in Oblivion lol. The fields around Anvil, the sunrise/set in the mountains in the NW (i forget which town is there 😅) the mucky brown in bravil, so seeing the vividness in the paint world brought me joy! One thing I think I found while in pale pass (or read from the guide book) was that there is a secret quest within the pass itself! Theres a hidden chest with a note that gives directions to another note? I think? And it may have a nice reward, but it all is in the valley ktself, iirc. Maybe take it with a grain lf salt since it's been *years* since I last played oblivion lol Fun vid, as usual!
Cheers! Appreciate the continued support! :) I agree with you, the contrast in colours between the painted world and the rest of Cyrodiil is astonishing 😂 I appreciate the tip! I might be doing a video around that soon so if it does exist I’ll let you know!
In my opinion, Oblivion has one of the greatest art directions in gaming. It feels like wandering around in an oil painting, it's beautiful and no one talks about it. Everyone is so distracted by the potato NPCs they aren't looking at the colorful fields full of flowers they lovingly crafted for us.
@@newname4941 northwest compass direction lol There was a path that ran through the mountains in the upper left corner of the map, that was so nice esp during sunrise
34:00~ You could've also used a Charm spell/scroll on him to buff his disposition by a set value, or a Fortify Speechcraft (or maybe even Fortify Personality) spell/potion on yourself to make it possible to persuade/bribe him beyond 70, instead of leveling said skill/attribute, pickpocketing or killing Olav. That said, it doesn't mean much mentioning it after the fact, but knowing your options is always a good thing for the future.
Yes! I saw that afterwards, I bought Beguiling Touch in Bruma but unfortunately still didn’t work, thankfully the pickpocketing did the trick! Next time I’ll have to stack up on charm scrolls!
A brush with death was one of the first quests I ever got when I played oblivion for the first time in 2011. What a nostalgia trip it is seeing those damn trolls again.
I actually got stuck there and it was my first playthrough and hadnt a clue as it was my first elder scrolls game and id deleted all my saves being a tidy friek....i was ill prepared and didnt know i could lower the dificulty id bought oblivion and skyrim for the xbox 360 around 2017 and jumped over to skyrim for a while to get the jist of things and it helped me to understand the games but something was pulling me back to oblivion and i quickly returned with a better knowledge i still think oblivion is the better of the two and has the best sound track ever. These games had me purchase a gaming laptop and ive about 6 new land skyrim mods and enderal but oblivion still holds a place in my heart at top spot...magical
Erline's memory is very selective in A Brotherhood Betrayed. In the end she remembers the command word for the amulet and that happened years back but she can't recall who Raynil is? You'd think she'd recognize him considering her husband was afraid of other brotherhood memebers and he would probably remind her to watch out for them.
I remember all these quests, but I still love this kind of video from you. It's nice to see quests that maybe aren't worth a whole video by themselves. Also, I always love seeing people discover new stuff in this game. In my most recent playthrough, I just discovered the 'Go Fish' quest, so i'm curious what else is out there that I don't know!
Cheers! I appreciate the support! I didn’t even knew a few of these quests existed tbh (Two Sides and a brush with death)! Fun fact, Go Fish was supposed to be in this video too, but I killed the fish out of order in the lake and got frustrated with not being able to find the remaining 6 😂 so I scrapped it! Maybe I’ll put it in the next one!
Cool video, but I really don't get how you'd miss all of those quests in 12 years. I'm pretty sure I got them all in my 1st playrhrough in 2009. Anyway, A Brush With Death is certainly the most iconic and cool looking. I can imagine not wanting to hang out in Bruma I guess,
Cheers! I appreciate it! I was really weird with playing this game up until recently 😂 I would just make a new character and play through the same quests, just with different builds 😂 I know it’s strange lol
If there is one quest I'd add to this great little collection of side quests is that of the vampire-hunter order in the Imperial City. I've played since launch and just discovered it a year ago.
That's funny, one of my most favoritest play throughs, I punched the jailer to end up in jail, too. I think the first time I did that quest, tho, I wiggled the body of the dead guy in that vampire hunter quest til I got arrested.
Really you never done these im glad you actually gave these a go in my opinion these where fun when i first came across them by rumors or accidentally finding them
A Brush With Death is such a banger of a quest. It blew my mind as a kid, and it's just such a cool idea. That's the best thing about Oblivion, that it's filled to the brim with GOAT tier quests that are just super fun. Skyrim has some good ones, but imo Oblivions are way better
So just as a note, most npc’s to tell you information, need to have a disposition of 70 or higher to give you the information, works with beggars too they’ll give your free info over the thieves guild quest if they like you
@@ABardsBallad yeah charm spells are an easy way to by pass the whole speech game, bribery and charm, however starting the game with speech craft as your major skill will also allow for most npc’s max disposition to be around 74, as well as the ability to turn the speech wheel once :) anyways love the video, was interesting to see someone else who hasn’t done these quests
I stumbled into A Brush with death randomly on my first playthrough when I was like 12. After completing it I got over encumbered by the apron, didn't know how to drop things and the guy eventually got angry and attacked me. Good times
Tivela has been tearing the city up looking for Rythe (I would assume talking to folks in town) yet decides to give you the key of all people ...some random main character/guest in her home ...W Wife 👏🏽😂
I always kill Arnora and bring Jorundr both amulets, and he even comments on that! And the quest within the painting is one of my favourites! How beauutifully done!
The way I saw it while playing Two Sides of the Same Coin was that it feels like Jorundr has less reason to lie about not killing the guards or even downplaying his crimes. You're supposedly a criminal and would he really go to this elaborate lie to get you to kill his ex-partner. The lady just has more reason to lie because she can actually get something out of it + she actually wants you to gain his trust. She knows you're going to talk to him. She needs to lie, he doesn't. That being said, I definitely could see him being violent with her beforehand. It doesn't really sound like he had much affection for her if he jumps to killing so fast imo. And the rest of his dialogue feels kind of suspicious. And it is true that manipulators do lie to make the other side seem "crazy" or like a liar. I've seen it happen a lot. Also, I just don't really like those quests were you can't find out the "right" answer without completing it. The worst version of it is Skyrim's Alikr quest. It's less of a moral dilemma and more just "go with your gut". It's a bit lame. To me, a moral dilemma should be more two right answers not just "not enough information". This one is better, since it frames it as less of a moral dilemma and more an experience where it doesn't matter. Edit: The whole "living in his house while he's in jail" angle I don't really get taking issue with. They were partners, there's supposedly no next of kin that she's obstructing. If she's telling the truth, I don't see why she shouldn't live in his house. If she's lying, I don't really take much issue with it either. It's a thief stealing from a thief. There's also some danger in assuming either's account is entirely true. Suppose that the lady did rat him out, but didn't commit the murder. Or she didn't rat him out, but did complete the murder. Both are possible.
Regarding the Painting quest: it's the only part of the game where the turpentine and painted troll fat items can be obtained. Also, as far as I was able to determine back in the day when I played it, the Apron you get as the quest reward is possibly the best piece of light armor in the game, and the only limitation is that it's only a chest piece.
Love this channel, but I feel super nitpicky. Like with the glitches, a part of me understands. Another part wants u to git gud and try again. Or saying you don't know something that COULD be found out. Saying something didn't work out and it didn't prompt you to reload a save. Lots of little things. Maybe it's because I've been playing Oblivion for years and years and years. I was even being unfair and thinking "How are you just now finding these?" But I don't know how long you've been playing. So, that's just me. Anyway, I didn't want to say nothing because I want to know that you know that somebody knows that you CAN do better. But again, I really love the stories, the channel, YOUR VOICE. It's a 9/10 and now I've told you what's costing you that 1 point w/ me.
It's honestly shocking to know that, being the Oblivion fan that you are, you never actually did A Brotherhood Betrayed That's one of the quests I can never actually run away from, not only 'cause Bruma is the closest town to the Cloud Ruler Temple, but because of the Thieves' Guild leading you to the fence in the city Inevitably, A Brotherhood Betrayed is always shoved onto me by the NPCs, and the plot being about vampires always makes it interesting It's one of those quests I consider to be essential, for how unique it is and for how easy it is to get it
I have some curiosity for the Arnora quest. Is there any consequence if you help the husband and you also free him from jail? Does he go somewhere? Is there a way, instead, to save Arnora? Because she dies in both choices.
I got soft locked out of my game on a brush with death. I ended up hitting her husband's inside the painting with a fire ball. And he wouldn't paint the exit to leave the painting. And it was before i knew to save in a new slot. So allmy saved data was in one file. I had to restart and re do the whole game again.
I don’t understand the dislike for the speech mini game I actually think it’s quite fun just as a little break from the game where you slow down to pretend butter someone up
I think Olav wouldn't help you because his disposition was still too low. See, whenever you need to get a reluctant NPC to spill the beans on something, you need to get their Disposition up to a specific number. In Olav's case, it's probably something like 70%, or so. If his Disposition is even a _single point_ under that threshold, then it won't count. A good way to circumvent this issue (without resorting to pickpocketing) would be to get Olav's Disposition as high as you can, and then hit him with a Charm spell; Charms work even if the NPC's Disposition is "maxed". Disposition _can_ actually go below 0%, or above 100%, but the game won't display it. For instance, if an NPC has, say, 110% Disposition, the game will claim they only have 100%. As for the rest of these quests, I'm a fan of all of them too, except for "Bear Season." "A Brush With Death" is pretty mindless, but it at least gives us a truly beautiful environment to explore. It also gives us a unique poison, the Turpentine. Turpentine's one and only purpose is hurting Painted Trolls, so after the quest is over, it's little more than a novelty. And since there's no way to access the "Damage Painted Trolls" effect in the vanilla game, it's a very rare item. I like to use five of the bottles on the first five trolls, and then keep the last bottle. This gives the sixth troll more of a climactic feel, like a "Mini-Boss", of sorts. Also, since the Turpentine bottles aren't quest items, you can even display them in your house. If I remember correctly, it looks the same as a regular poison, but it's still a cool thing to have. The Turpentine, the Painted Troll fat, and of course, the Apron. Also, Rhythe was referenced in Skyrim; Elgrim of Riften mentions sending letters to Rhythe asking for Painted Troll fat. "A Brotherhood Betrayed" is honestly a pretty cool quest. It's one of the first times we see someone take advantage of people's fear of vampires to quite literally get away with murder. The villain still makes stupid mistakes, like leaving critical evidence in his hotel room (Well Okay, _Inn_ room), and not running away with the loot the first chance he got. But the fact that he actually acknowledges that he did so, and chastises himself for being so careless, is a neat touch; he basically lampshades his own "Bond villain" -esque stupidity. I really like "Lifting the Vale". For starters, it touches on the Akaviri people themselves, which is something we almost never see in-game. This fact alone would make the quest fairly unique, but we also see the (actually quite tragic) story of a doomed Akaviri messenger, and towards the end of the quest, we help him and his commander make peace with how they "failed" their comrades, and peacefully move on to the afterlife. "A Raid on Greyland" is about as barebones and mindless as it gets, but it's over in a few minutes, so if nothing else, it doesn't overstay its welcome. Just a quick distraction that nets you some extra cash. "Bear Season" is just flat-out mediocre. Nothing more, nothing less.
Brotherhood has to be the dumbest codeword to use when there's literally a faction called the dark brotherhood. Anyone holding that thing could just accidentally say that when talking about them.
Imma be honest i kinda wish you could give the money to the guard since technically the money is stolen whether hes evil or not really doesnt matter i thought it wouldve been cool to give it to him and have a guard in my pocket
Fuck those bears. I got the quest on my way to miscarcanded and one of them was just outside the tuins snd with the help of a goblin it killed prior maberols paint horse! Rip horsey
I think it would have been cool if you saw Arnora at the dark brotherhood after siding with her. Instead of having the guards kill her. the whole quest felt a little lazy tbh.
I find it odd you have never done some of these quests before. A lot of them are kind of thrown in your face. When i played oblivion some of them, particularly the brush with death, the game would hit me with the "ive heard a rumor about X" text box the second i got to the city. Before I've even been able to move my character just instantly upon zone in
Judjing by the title of the video, you didn't even visit Bruma in your previous playthroughs - which I don't think is possible, as there is at least 1 plot Oblivion gate and 1 plot battle near Bruma, and I doubt you didn't have to unload your gear after Oblivion gates...well if only you didn't always fast travel to either Anvil or Imperial City for it, as I usually do) Still, your first fence is in Bruma, one Mages Guild recommendation quest, one Dark Brotherhood quest...and are the quests in this video are the only quests in Bruma, and there's nothing hidden or secret about them - they are pretty obvious, and you even might overhear some NPCs mentioning them to each other, or to you by using "rumors" dialog option)
You know, Two Sides of the Same Coin makes me upset hearing it laid out like this because if you think about for more than 2 seconds, Arnora doesn't have a motive. Arnora tells you very specifically "Get the location of the stash out of Jorundr," but then according to him "*We* buried the gold in the woods." In other words, according to Jorundr (who the game very much presents as not caring enough anymore to lie to you because it wouldn't get him out) Arnora *knows where the stash is!* So then why'd she spread the rumors? Why didn't she just go get it? Why'd she ask you to do *anything at all?!* You can tell the quest designer just wrote down "insert twist here" without spending a single extra thought. This is peak Bethesda writing.
@@Kvindevognen + Jorundr says the same, that he moved the stash while she was "searching for supplies". Him moving the gold is literally one of the only things the stories they tell the player have in common.
40:35 There is one of Oblivion's flaws: The writing in quests and dialogues that does not make sense. Raynil walking up to you, talking to you as if he had it all figured out, he's the all-seeing eye, watching Bruma, even in daylight and he also already knew, that you were going to be his demise from the very first moment you stepped foot into Bruma. He knows immediately everything about you, jesus i wonder if he also knows what else i played, if i did some questionable things in another whole-ass game like Rimworld and also who the frikkin Nerevarine is and he also knows about the tragic of Darth Plagueis the wise. "Yes, you [unknown random ass person, who entered the local pub before i wanted to enter it] were already there and, naw shiet, you were quicker than me and as i saw you enter the [local random pub], i knew i had to flee town immediately." Yes Raynil and i am the instrument of all your sins. I have listened through rock, metal and flesh and now you will listen... Raynil, there's been word of another settlement that needs your help, here i'll mark it on your map, oh wait what am i doing, *YOU ALREADY KNOW WHICH SETTLEMENT I MEAN, BECAUSE YOU ARE ALL-KNOWING, RIGHT??* Don't get me wrong, i love Oblivion. I loved Morrowind before it, and i am absolutely addicted to Skyrim, too. I am a frikkin Bethesda fan, but shit writing like this is probably one of the first signs of Bethesda downgrading the quality of their games. I am playing through Morrowind (with OpenMW) right now and apart from all the cheese and the ridiculously overpowered items, that game had much better story writing. I mean, what the hell happened to the good story writers? Did most of them leave after Morrowind and the rest after Oblivion and even more after Skyrim? Jesus the decline is so openly visible, what the hell is going on with those guys?

Like I remember doing the mages guild quests and being disturbed and scared out of my mind when first encountering the necromancers. It felt like some huge deal.
Another core memory for me is probably the elder scroll heist from the thieves guild.
Good times, good times.
A Brush With Death and A Brotherhood Betrayed are amazingly written quests
They were awesome quests!
Oblivion honestly had the best Side Quests
They were top notch!
Playing through oblivion for the first time in 2024. Have been playing Skyrim since 2011 when it dropped. Wish I got here sooner
@@PastPerspectives11oh man you have to play the Daedra quests! Especially Varmina, Sheogorath, and Boethia
It’s crazy to me how popular oblivion and morrowind have gotten in the last few years. I forget how full these games are.
I love seeing Oblivion get a resurgence because of how many side quests were actually memorable and fun
It’s because a lot of Elder Scrolls fans are tired of Skyrim and waiting for TES 6
I remember that as soon as I completed the painting quest the two started screaming at me to get out of their house and calling for the guards.
😂 that’s happened a few times with me too during other quests
Maybe take it with a grain lf salt since it's been *years* since I last played oblivion lol
Fun vid, as usual!
@@wareforcoin5780Wholeheartedly I agree with that. Oblivion’s environments are beautiful.
What is the NW
@@newname4941 northwest compass direction lol
There was a path that ran through the mountains in the upper left corner of the map, that was so nice esp during sunrise
The Quest with the paintings is short but one of my all time favorites
8:48 the painter who has 3 copies of the same painting all in his living room lol
34:00~
You could've also used a Charm spell/scroll on him to buff his disposition by a set value, or a Fortify Speechcraft (or maybe even Fortify Personality) spell/potion on yourself to make it possible to persuade/bribe him beyond 70, instead of leveling said skill/attribute, pickpocketing or killing Olav.
I've beaten this game at least a couple dozen times.
I still find new things about this game.
glad you talked about more quests you hadn't done before. these are all good ones
They were all a joy to play through!
A brush with death was one of the first quests I ever got when I played oblivion for the first time in 2011. What a nostalgia trip it is seeing those damn trolls again.
What a fantastic game, never gets old. I really dont think there will ever be another like it. Also, love your videos!
Man, I adore this series. Love the deep dives and how you let the dialog, music, and quest breathe.
Feels like I’m playing again, cheers 🍻
He might have changed his looks. And coming home to find her husband dead on the floor probably shocked her slightly which likely affected her memory.
@@ABardsBallad Off the top of my head, Go Fish is probably the worst quest in the game in my opinion. haha.
Her eyes are funny. And I remember this painting quest so vividly.
Rythe's quest was one of my very first ones, made a strong impression
Lifting the veil and brush with death, along with dark brotherhood, was best part of oblivion.
Oh and of course Raynil Drelas.
Quest 5: it’s a leveled amount of gold. I was level 15 and received 1000 septims for my trouble.
He was just so punchable 😂
You can fence the madstone to near instantly progress through the entire thieves guild questline, the enchantment is also pretty useful.
Ehh just some stolen guard armor gets you to the max fence level anyway
Very interesting! I didn’t know that! Cheers!
Grade A content my man.
Love to see these sorts of deep dives into Oblivion's quests. Roleplay playthrough someday perhaps?
I just did this in Skyrim and it gave so much more depth to my play through. love this video ❤
Cheers! Glad you enjoyed!
Oblivion is so amazing there. I've put a lot of time into it and still haven't played through every quest lol
There’s a lot of quests to do that’s for sure! Not to mention all of the non journal quests! 😂
Bear Season has to be a parody. That is like the standard MMO fetch quest. "go to [x] and kill 6 [y] and bring me their [z]"
It’s very WoW-like 😂
Really you never done these im glad you actually gave these a go in my opinion these where fun when i first came across them by rumors or accidentally finding them
I’ve never done them! Tolgan has always harassed me in Bruma, but I’ve never bothered following up with him 😂
A Brush With Death is such a banger of a quest. It blew my mind as a kid, and it's just such a cool idea. That's the best thing about Oblivion, that it's filled to the brim with GOAT tier quests that are just super fun. Skyrim has some good ones, but imo Oblivions are way better
I always played this first one here with the paintings.Having a travel into them
So just as a note, most npc’s to tell you information, need to have a disposition of 70 or higher to give you the information, works with beggars too they’ll give your free info over the thieves guild quest if they like you
Yes I found this out recently! I appreciate it! A lot of selling items and beguiling touch and it did the trick!
Good times
I've always done every side quest and I still feel like there wasn't enough of them.
Awesome video man love your content !
I appreciate the support! :) cheers!
When Rythe just went back to painting i wondered why the fuck hes not having a nap after all that craziness.
Great video! Thank you so much for the content you create!
Player: I disagree
Carius: Thats bold of you.
My brother, I just said I disagree 😅
By the Nine! This is the reskinned amulet of kings!
The magic paintbrush eas my favorite quest in the entire game
So glad i found this page , great videos
It's amazing to me that people live and die over the price of about 30 potatoes. Times are tough in cyrodil.
see the trees sway in the breeze lol
Cheydinhal was the first city i went to. It was the first quest i did in the game.
It's honestly shocking to know that, being the Oblivion fan that you are, you never actually did A Brotherhood Betrayed
That's one of the quests I can never actually run away from, not only 'cause Bruma is the closest town to the Cloud Ruler Temple, but because of the Thieves' Guild leading you to the fence in the city
Inevitably, A Brotherhood Betrayed is always shoved onto me by the NPCs, and the plot being about vampires always makes it interesting
It's one of those quests I consider to be essential, for how unique it is and for how easy it is to get it
I have some curiosity for the Arnora quest.
❤❤❤ love this video 🎉
Cheers! :) thank you for the support!
Fun fact after anoras red amulet: it looks exaxtly the same as the amulet of kings
As for the rest of these quests, I'm a fan of all of them too, except for "Bear Season."
"A Brush With Death" is pretty mindless, but it at least gives us a truly beautiful environment to explore.
22:02 Arnora does not refute anything 🤣
Brotherhood has to be the dumbest codeword to use when there's literally a faction called the dark brotherhood. Anyone holding that thing could just accidentally say that when talking about them.
this game is epic!!
One of the best!
Imma be honest i kinda wish you could give the money to the guard since technically the money is stolen whether hes evil or not really doesnt matter i thought it wouldve been cool to give it to him and have a guard in my pocket

I think it would have been cool if you saw Arnora at the dark brotherhood after siding with her. Instead of having the guards kill her. the whole quest felt a little lazy tbh.
You never did a brush with death!!!!!!
Never! I’m glad to have finally gotten to experience it!
@@ABardsBallad It’s a fun quest and the Painted Troll Fat is an excellent Alchemic ingredient.
I find it odd you have never done some of these quests before. A lot of them are kind of thrown in your face. When i played oblivion some of them, particularly the brush with death, the game would hit me with the "ive heard a rumor about X" text box the second i got to the city. Before I've even been able to move my character just instantly upon zone in
Judjing by the title of the video, you didn't even visit Bruma in your previous playthroughs - which I don't think is possible, as there is at least 1 plot Oblivion gate and 1 plot battle near Bruma, and I doubt you didn't have to unload your gear after Oblivion gates...well if only you didn't always fast travel to either Anvil or Imperial City for it, as I usually do)
Still, your first fence is in Bruma, one Mages Guild recommendation quest, one Dark Brotherhood quest...and are the quests in this video are the only quests in Bruma, and there's nothing hidden or secret about them - they are pretty obvious, and you even might overhear some NPCs mentioning them to each other, or to you by using "rumors" dialog option)
Why'd she ask you to do *anything at all?!*
You can tell the quest designer just wrote down "insert twist here" without spending a single extra thought. This is peak Bethesda writing.
Arnora explicitly states that he moved the gold. He dug it up and put it somewhere else.
@@Kvindevognen + Jorundr says the same, that he moved the stash while she was "searching for supplies". Him moving the gold is literally one of the only things the stories they tell the player have in common.
What are you blabbering about fam.

So.... This is the first time you've ever played oblivion....?
"Yes, you [unknown random ass person, who entered the local pub before i wanted to enter it] were already there and, naw shiet, you were quicker than me and as i saw you enter the [local random pub], i knew i had to flee town immediately."
Yes Raynil and i am the instrument of all your sins. I have listened through rock, metal and flesh and now you will listen...
Raynil, there's been word of another settlement that needs your help, here i'll mark it on your map, oh wait what am i doing, *YOU ALREADY KNOW WHICH SETTLEMENT I MEAN, BECAUSE YOU ARE ALL-KNOWING, RIGHT??*
Don't get me wrong, i love Oblivion.
More of a commentary than a playthrough. Should play it rather than tell it.
missing like half the story in the Arnora quest
Thumbs down for not immediately killing arnora. She was evil and anyone could see that.
Bethesdas dialogue is always so stiff and fake, no one speaks in the way all bethesda their npc’s do. Lead “writer” issues and bad actor directions
