In our latest Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim video we uncover the full story of Aetherium.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

The year is 2032 ES6 finally comes out! Happily you open the box. A whole new adventure has been promised to you.
You start a new game.
Text appears on the screen.
"The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim"
Todd Howard laughs in the distance. There was never a new game. Only Skyrim. Skyrim is the beginning and the end.
*wakes up looks around* " you're finally awake"
Alternate Ending: You open the box, overwhelming joy filling your chest. A bright light pierces your vision. As you slowly regain it, the air is different and your clothes have a different feel. Looking around you feel a chill down your spine as you recognize the opening to the former game, Skyrim. Dread and excitement bubble up as you hear those three familiar words from the man in front of you.
"You're finally awake..."
@@theacespace9897 that would be awesome
@@joshsimmons2663 How, exactly?
@@charlesdilks3267 because you would be transported into the game
Fun Fact: if you use the Become Ethereal shout and cross the lava in Aetherium Forge, there's a hidden chest on the other side on a piece of land
Really?
@@connorross4571 Yep! I think you'll have to have at least 2 words for the shout to make sure it lasts you long enough to cross the lava (unless you're playing with mods), but it's definitely over there

I'd love an Elswere setting in dwemer times
What’s inside?
Am I the only person who really wants to see an elder scrolls set in the times of dwemer?
Alfie lyons yes
i want see one set in that time including taking place in that time too
Alfie lyons
Id settle just for a flashback to see where the hell they went!
Daniel Lehr maybe via the use of an elder scroll? Isn’t that how the Dragonborn learned dragonrend in a flashback? I just can’t remember if it was with an elder scroll or not
Liam Donovan
It was indeed. Its been a bit but if my memory serves. You got the scroll, and had that moth guy use it, or teach you to use it. And you jump back to the fight against Alduin.
Edit.... You know you're a game nerd when your phone auto corrects Alduin to Albion.
*"Turn back! Turn back before you become the next victim"*
Drew: "So lets move on!"
Pi V Talos the mighty! Talos the unerring! Talos the unassailable! To you we give praise!
Just realized. The crest key was divided into four parts, one sent to each kingdom, so that only a united dwarven race could access the forge. After the Aetherium Wars, they decided that Dwarves must never again fight, sealing the forge such that it could only ever be accessed by a united dwarven race, or when the four kingdoms came together in a time of greatest need.
Surprised they didn't try to open it while Kagrenac was doing his thing.
Turns out, their race being completely annihilated made it finally possible to access the forge.
@@Bastardson_ lol
@Toori Baba Well, none of their immortal asses are anywhere anybody can see them! Maybe they still exist somewhere, but not in a way that effects the world at the time the games take place
@Toori Baba It's meant to be vague just what happened. Are the dwemer all dead? Are they immortal? Are they on another plane? Maybe something we can't even comprehend? Who knows.
@@nicholasmorgan7609 actually there is a slight possible explanation. though its still very vague as to what happened it does offer 2 possible conclusions. firstly the dwemer achieving kim, or understanding who and what they are and being able to accept that part of their reality, that reality being they are characters in a game or as most lore keepers say, part of a divines dreams but still very much their own beings. its rumored that the dwemer were able to realize this and accept it which when achieving kim their bodies go to another plane of existence just like we see with Tiber Septim/TALOS. to achieve the opposite of kim at least as far as i know is that your body is so overwhelmed with the knowledge that it cant contain it and will disintegrate just like we see with the guy who read hermaeus Mora's book. im not very savvy on the lore so this part is beyond me. but if these two statements are true, then its more than likely that the dwemer achieved kim and went to another plane, we know they were smarter than every other race in the game, we know that they were far more advanced than any others also and even built their own god though that wasn't of their own choice. either way its not a huge mystery as to what happened since we know everything up until the battle of red mountain. once their god was activated all that remains to be answered is which conclusion did they accept? and im betting money they achieved kim, but only Bethesda knows, and Bethesda aint talking.
You can meet Dreth as a random encounter. If he sees u with aetherium he will attack on sight so better hide it,have a nice chat,THEN STAB HIM IN THE BACK FOR SOME POETHIC JUSTICE.
QorinHalfhand.: Yes, I wish they had included that in this video. But, since it's random, maybe no footage?
I usually see him within a day or 2 of finishing the quest, but I don’t fast travel everywhere. I travel by horse a lot.
QorinHalfhand. I have never found him wow.
Or just kill him in self-defense with the overwhelming power of the Lord stone and the Atronach stone put together. And Unrelenting Force. And your Stalhrim sword enchanted with both chaos damage and frost damage. (My character was overpowered when I first got this encounter, so the only problem I had was that he kept trying to stay out of range, so I had to chase him a good distance. He got beheaded.)
Really? I've been walking around with the Aetherium Crown for at least a month of in-game time and never run into him. Great to hear I still have more new stuff to look forward to in the game!
Ah, Katria, the best written NPC in all of Skyrim. I felt sad once her quest was over. A massive thumbs up to anyone wanting to play "Lost to the Ages" quest.
My favorite quest in Skyrim actually.
I agree! Thought it was funny how she gets offended if you take her armour from her body aswell
I been playing skyrim since its release in 2011, and just about a week ago, I barely saw this quest. I like Katria, I was saddened when the quest was over. But I finally was able to use that weird pointer thing near the shack. It was the best quest in all of skyrim. I finished this quest in one setting. It was fun solving the puzzle. I got the opening on the first try.
I thought the same. That was one of the best parts of Skyrim; it was a fun quest chain, an interesting story, and an actually *believable* character (aside from the fact she's dead).
Definitely one of the most memorable events of the game.
I saved that quest so I can play it whenever I want. Felt bad for her
Aetherium is that new tech Todd Howard is always saying they need for ES 6.
Dwemer stuff is always dangerous
Matthew Chirino yeah I tried to fight an atrumatron Centrion in werewolf form it didint go well
And a modders beat friend. Want a train/airship/gun in skyrim? Well the dwemmer built them...
The real fear, Frost trolls!
Helen Perez Shut up. No one's falling for it and it's just annoying spam.
Maxim 24: Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from a really big gun.
I love the amount of alliteration you guys use, really gives rhythm to the dialogue. Lost to the Ages is my favourite quest, or A Night to Remember.
Thanks for the feedback :D
@@FudgeMuppet i want your energy inside me
Lost to the Ages was one of my favorite quests in Skyrim, even though I really hate dwemer ruins (and Blackreach). but i kept going, for Katria. She was vindicated. When she said goodbye, i actually felt sad.
"Despite being the ghost of a Nord, Katria cannot be found in Sovngarde during the main questline."
Damn, I was really hoping to see her again.
Well she did not die in battle she died in an earthquake so mb that's why

did you catch the last name of Katria's assistant?
Dreth.
the last name of the prisoner you were with in Oblivion was Dreth as well.might be something deeper here.
Probably just an inside joke by bethesda cause people hated that guy
You can meet a descendent of Dreth in the game somewhere, I think it's the guy selling discount mead at the meadery

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it :)
FudgeMuppet you have come! You have come to hear the word of talos!
FudgeMuppet Hello, my friend! If you seek knowledge about mighty Talos, you have most certainly come to the right person. In mortal life, Talos was a Nord possessed of unmatched tactical skill, limitless wisdom and the power to see into men's hearts. Talos mastered the power of the Voice, and with it he united the lands of men into a great Empire. In southern lands, he was known by the name Tiber Septim. Here in Skyrim, we honor him by his proper Nord name. So great was his reign in life, when he ascended to the heavens he was made lord of the Divines. If you want to know more, I'm sure you can find any number of tomes on the subject.
we need oxhorn to do skyrim lore
kyukyu he said he doesn’t want to because he doesn’t like mythical games which sucks but aw well maybe if we keep bugging him but if he doesn’t want to we shouldn’t because when someone does something they don’t really enjoy it would make for pretty low quality videos from him (sorry for writing a essay)
I wish we could have done more with the Aetherium like maybe make a full set of armor or something else. Perhaps someday or even with a mod
Jeffrey Kelley does it let you do anything else with it beyond forge the three artifacts?
There is. You can get a full set of dwemer power armor as well as a few weapons made of aetherium. Think its called the tools of kagrenac
M3T4LH34D91 nice. Thanks.
Guess its not on ps4 😭
CHRIS nope
Am I the only one who was really disappointed in the forge when they first got to it? With their hard earned aertherium shards, and puzzles behind them? The lore of how dangerous, epic, and powerful the items are, reading about the magnificence and grandeur of the lost dwarven cities, and here in Skyrim, the heart of their power. The Aetherium Forge! yea!... wait.. what? seriously? I get a fking staff of trash, yay? Even for a conjuror lets be real.. there are better spells and even staffs you'd rather be using when conjuring your army of Deadra.. Then you get a crown of "well that'd of been nice maybe 30 levels ago".. none of the standing stones are worth crap anymore once you actually get to this place. Then you got the shield of "lol..." Again, you can enchant better shit than that. Nice little gimmick shit on all 3 of those items, but utterly useless in the grand scope of things... THIS is what the dwarvens destroyed themselves over? A few weak ass trinkets? Fuck this.. That was my response anyway to finding the forge lol
Eternally Angelic Only standing stone I ever found useful was the stead stone 100 extra carry weight yes plz now I can hoard even more junk lol
Right? like even the other standing stones that sound great, even before you get so powerful you don't need then anymore, their spells dont' work in all the situations you'd actually use it for. Need to paralyze your opponent? oops, sorry he's either too high a level, or a boss who's immune, sorry! Unlock a Master lock once a day? yay? I'd rather unlock it myself and get a huge chunk of exp... 100% faster magicka regeneration wooo oh wait, it also makes me 100% more vulnerable.. no thanks... higher levels my magicka regenerates so fast I dont need it anymore either.
The only standing stones that are ever helpful or nice are the exp bonus ones for early leveling, and the Lord stone that gives you damage reduction across the board. But yea by the time you get to the forge.. who needs those anymore?
Eternally Angelic but what about the Atronach stone...
I always chose the crown and used the atronoch stone for spell absorption and the ritual stone. Kill everyone and then have a dead army...hated humanoid thralls, though. They complain too much. I usually got a mod to get more uses out of the ritual stone rather than once a day...like 3 times I think is how I used it. It’s a nice power to have. You can even raise giants and some really odd things.
Sara you do realize you could have just unequip the crown and than reequip it and reuse the power?
If you stored ritual on the crown i mean.
just an added info. did ya all know that bfor the addition of Dawnguard Dlc, the ruins of bthalft is just an empty place. nothing down there and its just also a bandit den. well, who knew that it plays a big part in this quest now.
and bfor going to the forge, u will be greeted by a tree. quite interesting, isnt it?
The crown is the only choice if you're intelligent. having a plus 35% increase of whatever skill you're working on allows you to get to 100 at a much lower level. which allows you to pump the game up to master at a much lower level.
bombchus: I definitely always choose the 👑.

Not likely. Es6 looks like Highrock or Hammerfell. No Dwemer there
+e1123581321345589144 No,there were Dwemer in Hammerfell. The reason it’s called Hammerfell is because a Dwemer chieftain threw the hammer volendrung and declared he would make his home where the hammer fell.

ha!, didn't know that.
I love this quest
Bethesda needs to make a game that covers all Tamriel and set within its ancient world that uncovers the full story of both the Dwemer and the Aylied histories
Argumedies Everybody always wants this. But that'd ruin the mystery.
Luke Price exactly. Same reason the games should never go beyond the shores of Tamriel
It's the mysteries of these ancient times, that makes the lore and story so interesting.
Argumedies: Yes. I am torn between my love of mysteries that should never be solved & my rampant curiosity.
I want to see the ruined kingdoms in all it's glory. Like Labyrinthian and all the major Dwemer cities.

Great video on a great quest! Katria is such a compelling character, I really felt sorry for her. May she feast in the Hall of Valor beyond the end of times.
I think it would be great if the next ES featured the snow elves war or the dwemer times.

There are also three hidden chests around the lava pit that are really hard to get to

lmao never played so idk
I have over a thousand hours in this game and I can say it is overrated. The game is fun, but has a lot of annoying flaws that would kill it if not for the mods. The same with Fallout games, Bethesda's half games are always being saved by its community. Definetly not one of the best, but one of the most loved by the crowd.
@@orangejuiceenthusiast8364 Oblivion is good and it had some stuff I like that Skyrim doesn't but Skyrim is definitely more well rounded without all the bugs of Oblivion also the story is kinda tedious with just closing like 20 Oblivion gates. Morrowind is cool but the graphics make it borderline unplayable along with the random lag and bugs. Skyrim is the best of the three but not by much.

@FudgeMuppet What do you think the best difficulty is on Skyrim that allows you best to RP, and have a fun/challenging experience?

The Dwemer are awesome, it'd be amazing to have a flashback mission in ESO or TeS6 showing some battle, possibly the battle of red mountain? We've seen the alieids so it's possible
You've never run across the apprentice? I have, through several play-throughs. He has a little gang of Mercs with him and he tries to silence you and take the item you just forged.
Really?
Imagine if the chimer won the war by using an elder scroll ? Maybe they sent the dwemer into the future like the blades did with alduin
I've done this quest four times in the last month alone - it's one of my favourite. Great dungeons, story, you get a great weapon early on, and an awesome reward at the end. Oh, and be smarter than me: make sure you and/or your follower can do frost damage for the final battle against the Forge Master. Also, have some fire resistance gear. Otherwise, that battle takes a long time, playing on Legendary difficulty.
Aetherium crown is the best item.
From Morrowind to Skyrim I have always loved delving into Dwemer ruined cities and collecting some nice items to use as decor and trophies. I was bummed they didn't have Dwemer ruins in Oblivion. But I did enjoy the Ayleid ruins in oblivion all the same.
When I was first playing Skyrim I avoided dwemer ruins cause I knew I would die a lot so I just didn’t go in them
It would’ve been interesting to see what you could’ve done with Atherium if you were able to take it to Skyforge, or the Lunar forge.
really the crown is the best. but i can see how the other could be good also. shield is handy for crowd control, taking enemies outta the fight for a bit. the scepter is cool just for being able to summon dwemer spheres.

I remember starting this quest line back then. I believe I only got half way though before getting sidetracked :/
I couldn't find on of the pieces and gave up
I always choose the crown and if anyone needs to know how to encounter Taron Dreth just wander the roads of Skyrim or occasionally check the Silver-Blood Inn in Markarth. He’s a random encounter so it can take a while but it’ll happen. And he has hired bodyguards that go down like punks but he uses fireballs so as long as you have potions or are just at a high enough level that fireballs do almost nothing you’ll pretty much just murder him. Btw, his robes are actually really good if you’re a destruction wizard like me so don’t forget to loot him!

Justin Dyer they just released it on xbox 360 and xbox one for 7 dollars.
fun fact, when steel is melted down and recast its propertys change back to inferior cast iron.
now considering that all dwemer weapons and armor in tamriel are likely recast from melting down dwemer metal scraps its very likely that the original dwemer metal as forged by the dwemer through lost metallurgy techniques is equal or maybe even superior to 4rth era ebony forging and the dwemer equipment the player can make is just made from dwemer cast iron
damned Etherium. First it destroys GPU prices and now we realize it destroyed parts of Tamriel also... THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!!
I know I say this almost every video but nice vid
Thanks for all the support!
Yeah the circlet is about the only thing that makes sense. Making your enemies aetherial is pointless since you could just as easily do it to yourself with a shout, and summoning a sphere can't be better than a permanent follower or some other conjured up to fight with you.
You can actually find taren dreth and kill him in game. For me he was near riften .
This is my favorite quest in the game. I usually try holding off doing it but the items are good to have early if possible, I usually get the crown.
I'm pretty sure that the Aetherium shards were in Morrowind. I might be thinking of something else, but I remember finding one in TES3 and then looking for the others. I never found them or completed the quest, so does anyone know about that quest? Am I just thinking of something else, or was the Aetherium forge in Morrowind as well? If so, was the quest any different?

Fun fact: if you loot her body and take her armor, she will say "you could have left me with some dignity" or along those lines.
This man’s voice kills me to sleep the same way Jim Dale used to reading Harry Potter when I was a kid.
Wait don't be so quick to dismiss the voice thing as this is the dragon born we can literally shout maybe why its so important? Just a theory. try it see if anything come of it can't believe no one else thought of it
damn , katria's ghost was hot , i mean we found her body , and her soul was right there , you think maybe we could've done something with necromancy or resurrection magic?
This seemed less about lore and more of a quest walkthrough
They tried to create their very own god. One for them. In doing so they all vanished into another spectrum.
You get to meet the last dwarf in morrowind. Although he's only half dwarf by this point.
They combined him with a dwemer mechanical spider, so I'd say he 100% dwemer.
The Dwemer, or Dwarves, are not Snow Elves. They are not elves at all. Totally different race. Always have been always will be.
I was disappointed at how mundane the forged items are. I always forge the crown. The other items are pointless.
Skyrim has much more depth then haters like to admit.Civil war,Past Dwemer Civil war,Genocide of Snow Elfs,Fosworn civil war, secret werewolf society, secret vampire society, secret cannibal society and list goes on.Much more lore then Oblivion that's for sure i would say on par with Morrowind but whit better gameplay.
I just did the quest with Katria. Funny thing is i've been level 80 for years because I never really play anymore. Just found her randomly when I loaded up the game 2 weeks ago. And then I find this video randomly wtf :).
This quest bugs the shit out of me for oh so many reasons.
1) Calcemo was never tied into it.
2) There's no other aetherium or aetherium artifacts buried anywhere that could have been uncovered?
3) The statue head that appears on many if not all dwarven ruins somewhere, what and who is that and why is it old enough to have been down in the forge?
4) Why are we never mugged for the artifacts?
I think aetherium can be compared to Uranium or Plutonium or even thorium because it was classified as an ore and it glowed blue. Can't get much more obvious a connection than that. I mean just look at the suffix of all of the words its right there. So essentially they had a war over nuclear materials whilst everyone else was just surviving the harsh skyrim land.
Ppl still play this shit? Boycott Bethesda as it's just another EA in disguise.
Currently need to be studying but actually going on a FudgeMuppet Elder Scrolls binge. Why can't my Human Factors and Ergonomics exam just be all about the Dwemer ?

I have countless hours on Skyrim, but how did I never discover the forge? I know I battled the first boss in the Aetherium ruins, but never discovered any shards... Just me?
@fudgemuppet
Do you think the giant dwarven heads are just re-textured versions of the giant silver heads/dunwitch mystery in Fallout 4?
So I've been hearing about this yearly dlc plan thing and that by the end of the year we will have full access to blackreach in its entirety is this true? Has it already happened? Cause like I love the dwemer story
Hmm...Ya know, maybe it's a GOOD thing the Dwemer are all gone.It seems that they were too smart for their own good, and the more they invented, the more they put the world at risk.
Jenasa: “The Dwemer were also called ‘dwarves’ although there is no evidence that they were any shorter than other elves” while standing between a foot tall Dwemer bench and a five foot long Dwemer bed.
What the hell. I've finished Skyrim multiple times and never knew about any of this. You're a good story teller by the way.
Lately no matter how many times I set off the trap to get to the aethrium shard in the place that you meet katria the dwarven centurion will not come out but the ballistas will keep on getting reloaded.
I hate going into the dwemer ruins
Here are 2 of the main reasons why
1 the effing falmer they are creepy and are annoying to kill
2 dwemer machines and traps
I think Bethesda should go a litte in-depth with the dwemer. I would really like to know why thy decided to disappear and how thet went about doing it.
I found a shard before i found the book and it broke the quest for me -_- went too far to revert an old save. Why has talos forsaken me
What is Aetherium? Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me, no more
Apparently, Katria can hop from Dwarven ruins, right? So why doesn’t she just hop to the Forge?
