The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

The voice is one of the most overpowered abilities in the world of TES. Lorewise i struggle to imagine how even an army of thalmor could defeat the dragonborn.
Arrows
Bolt lightning
by sending in khajiiti assassins
No, it is not. It is simply a type of spiritual magic that is produced through the voice. The thalmor being Altmer are replete with the best mages
Dragonborn can bend will of mortals and dragons. Who would win An army of Thalmor or an army of dragons led by the Dragonborn? Exactly...
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But the Thu’um could freakin kill me
Not if you have absorb spell active, or deflect.
Even slow time can be dispelled so no. Shouts are harmless to a master
mage who practices mysticism. And oh, if you can get your hands on
some shadow magick then you are unstoppable. Even a chim user needs to
take care when dealing with shadow magick.

Magic and powers in elder scrolls lore is always so much more interesting than in gameplay. The power scaling is more like comic books with many super human tiers of ability. In lore I would imagine the dragon born (at least after he's all leveled up) would be like thor. Not just the thu'um but his/her strength, speed and reflexes would all be many times that of a human. Game mechanics more in line with devil may cry would probably fit the lore better. Remember the bit about an experienced "tongue" could shout down a castle wall. The dragonborn is destined to defeat the strongest dragon in aldiun. His/her full powered shout could probably knock the whole damn castle down. Remember that Alduin destroyed helgen without breaking a sweat. In lore Helegen was a major military fort, not just a regular village.
waste of time You underestimate the The Thu’um the Thu’um is capable of of warping reality on a massive scale pelinal whitestrake was capable of destroying the entire Elder Scrolls universe up to the Godhead. The Dragonborn is super op lore wise around the 11-12 strongest TES character

soldiergigas14 Again depends on the Dragonborn and the universe that the battle takes place in.
Imagine the UNGODLY amount of power the Dragonborn could attain he mastered BOTH the voice AND SWORD SINGING!!! 10th divine anyone?
Mortuorum Rex he'd achieve CHIM
Mortuorum Rex I’d imagine the Dragonborn’s Shehai would look like a Sword version of the Dragon Aspect shout (since the Spirit Sword is made from the user’s soul and the Dragonborn has a Dragon Soul)
What if the Dragonborn mastered the trio of known forms of reality-shaping magics, Sword Singing, the Thu'um, and Tonal Architecture? They'd be literally unkillable.
For someone to ascent to Godhood they need to find out that they are not real, or something like that, basically "Chim"
Anyone who achieves Chim will basically have control over the Godhead's dream, lucid dreaming in a God's dream

Because they're barred from the other side?
@Michael Bro I want a mod for different locks for different locks. Same lock picked with the same lockpick on a dwemer lock as a current Nord door? So unimmersive
I remember for the longest time, I thought the Thu'um was a neat ability they made up to make the Dragonborn unique, only to learn that it actually was something mentioned in Morrowind.
the only thing that made the dragonborn unique was dragons
"With the voice they could take over Tamriel with ease"
*Thinks back to Red Mountain*
were they failed and that was pre god hood for the three saints
That is the exact failure the Jurgen Windcaller believed was punishment from the Gods.
In that sense, they lost because the Gods said so. Not because the Chimer were stronger.
all races can use both the voice and magic, yet every single one fo them chose magic in the end, even miraak, the most powerful dragonborn ever to exist till TLB used magic more than he use shouts.
The voice is not stronger or more versatile than magic, is just different.
Sure, 3 words shouts are mightier than begginer spells, but expert and master spells are pretty much supreme.
And they dont have cooldown.
@@Alizudo Not necessarily true. The Chimer were legitimately handing them their asses on a silver platter, not to mention that Nerevar himself was an extremely gifted and powerful warlord that defeated a Dragonborn, Wulfharth, in single combat. Lets not undersell the ancient Chimer, they were a very powerful race of people. The Tribunal, at the height of their power, would have annihilated the Tongues regardless of the Thu'um.
Lorenzo Herreros Here’s the thing, those cooldowns might very well just be an in game mechanic, not necessarily an actual part of the lore. The Thu’um is comparable to tonal architecture, the same kind of “magic” the dwemer used. I use quotations because tonal architecture is to magic what tanks are to hand guns. Magic is more widely used because it’s fundamentally easier to learn, not because it’s more powerful. To learn the voice, you need someone to teach you. It’s nearly impossible to stumble upon on your own. And as far as I know, the Greybeards are the only ones who are capable of teaching it at all and even then it takes years to use.
I'd be interested in a series on the aedra. Similar to the one on the daedra.
Fun fact, Kiai is a real word concept, you know those shouts a martial artists when attacking. would make sense for that to be mixed with Dragon shouts, Akavir being the land of dragons and all.
But good on you, a piece of akaviri lore that i didn't know, now back to hoping ESO do not disappoint me with Rimmen.
In Shorinji Kempo (martial art from Japan but adapted from Shaolin kung fu). It's mandatory to shout Kiai when hitting your opponent. But different Kiai also used to change your stance.
But yea, it's just a shout. But there's a difference when you use it and not.
@@BruhMoment-cs6tj yep but Kiai is the Akaviri word for the Thu'um in TES.
granted unreliable narrator and all, children of the Sky could just be wrong with a Nord hearing about kiai and mistaking it for the voice but then you can apply that to like 90% of TES lore ;-)
“For dragons, harrassement is no different then assault” man.... cant imagine domestic disputes in a dragon’s household o.0
That would be terrifying
“Magic exists to serve man and never to rule over him!” Thus spoke the Prophet Andraste as she cast down the Tevinter Imperium.
Lmao
Wrong series, but i will admit it works
I just got a few visions of a corrupt Dragon God and a great underground army...
Some times I like to imagine the 2 series combining where their continents have no idea of each other’s existence until they are actually found. Like Europeans learning of the Americas except it would be really hard to colonize each other.
One Does have to wonder how much the Nordic thu'me and dwemwr tonal architecture have in common
I honestly think there's no difference.
It's the same magic used in a different way. The Nordic Thu'um was used for war and religious worship, but Tonal Architecture was used to bend the Laws of Physics and create matter.
The Nords could do the same thing if they bothered to experiment.
But then again, disregarding the Gods is exactly what got the Dwemer banished in the first place.
That and sword singing
The reason Nords can use this powerful ability is because of all that damned cheese they have
the dragonborn kills the world eater by yelling at him
"Hey, Alduin... You suck!" *Alduin Dies*
Imagine in TES6 more elemental spells like wind where you can summon tornadoes, or create a circle of wind around you to disrupt arrows, or even use it in a similar way to unrelenting force and use it in more of a defensive manor. The wind atronach could be like a ash guardian but like a cloud more than dust. And similar to potency spells when some one is close there could be one called Gale Palm and when an enemy is close and if your destruction is powerful enough it can send them flying and make them stagger.
Greybeards: Do you vow to follow the Way of the Voice?
Me: Yes
Also me: Walks out the door ready to shout every troll off the steps on the way back down
In the lore, the Tongues of Old sung the spirit of Shor back to the earth to lead the Nords at Red Mountain. Must be pretty powerful if you can bring a dead god back to life.

I've been waiting for someone to do a proper video on the Thu'um. Nice work 👌
This is actually weird. Accırding to the elder scrolls lore the thu’um which was used by the nords were really powerful and they could conquer the world with it. But in the gameplay althoght the dragonborn is using the shout the unrelentic force can just blow away some people and it can be blocked by a ward spell isnt it bad the game needs more powerful shouts that they were mentioned in the lore
Oğul Sadi Nasuhoğlu it’s to balance out the game and not make you OP
If the Thu'um was as strong in the game as it is in lore the Dragon Crisis and the civil war would be over in 1 week , not to say the damn Altmer wouldn't even think of doing what they are doing to men all around Tamriel

Kiai means energy/spirit in japanese and we commonly use it in kendo, we literally shout(which is our kikai) when we execute techniques every jigeiko to score an ippon(posture + spirit + execution) and it is also a kendoka's mark that he has a high fighting spirit, the louder your kiai the higher your fighting spirit, it is also effective for intimidating opponents and as a battlecry in every jigeiko/shiai. The Dragonrend shout is specifically designed to force its target, dragons to experience mortality.
But what if this applied to all beings who enjoy the benefits of immortality?
What if it would even work when used upon a Daedric prince?

I am currently working on making Heavily Modded Skyrim Playthrough; the RP is of an ambitious Kajiit Entrepreneur-ing Blacksmith. The Dwemer inspires this smart cat, may even directly replicate the creations of the dead race, but this Kajiit's life long plans (extending way past any timeline the game can provide) is to be a pioneer in the kind of Renaissance for the relative achievements of the Dwemer.
So my question is this: at least Lore wise, could the Thum be used to reverse engineer Tonal Architecture?
We know a Gray Beard literally told a patch of snow to ignore the sun. This act alone sounds like how the Dwemer made their creations literally timeless.
Fus Ro Dah!
Imagine if someone became so adept in the voice he could not only absorb souls and knowledge willingly given to him but could absorb shouts by tearing them apart with his will
The thuum is specifically a nord weapon so a dark elf wielding it is a little ridiculous
Mankar Cameron wore the Amulet of the Kings, implying he may have been Dragonborn like the emperors. That said, I do agree with the idea about not needing to be a nord or dragonborn to use the thu'um since there are other races that developed their own sound based magic, most notably the Dwemer.

Okay I know that this is really random, and I honestly don’t know why I’m talking about it here, but I’ve been formulating ideas for a writing project which is probably going to be involving the aftermath of the Dragonborn questline in Skyrim, and once the Dragonborn has left to challenge Miraak. My idea, is a war of much larger scale in Skyrim. I’m thinking of a unified Orc nation attempting to make foothold in Skyrim to even survive after being driven out of Hammerfell due to being blamed for the assassaination of the old king of hammerfell. Then the Reachmen gathering enough power to finally overtake Morthal, the Stormcloaks and Imperials still trying to drive eachother off of the map,
And lastly the Thalmor making a move to advance on the frozen north after witnessing the chaos, to re-establish order and develop puppet states to maintain presence and loose control of the land. I’m thinking of a sort of “Battle of Five Armies” sort of all out war for the land, or perhaps loosely reuniting the three banners in a power struggle for the land. But not all have allegiance strictly to one side. There may perhaps be very powerful champions with their own goals for dominance... those with darker Magics and allegiances at hand. So, just curious, what do you guys think? What suggestions do you have about this? Any feedback, questions and lore info would be very much appreciated.

Wait doesn’t that mean it should be canon that ulfric wins the civil war, how could the empire stand against his voice with his army
The Nords lost two battles at Red Mountain because they were arrogant, and thought that, with the aid of the Voice, they could win any battle.
But they fought against both Chimer, and Dwemer, while weakened by the War of Succession, of course it would end badly. Jurgen Windcaller couldn't understand this, and blamed the gods.
Nords were destined to preserve society by acting as Guardians of the Divine - They've managed to save the entire world from Alduin's wrath and hunger for Mundus twice. Truly a heart of Wood and Steel.

Jurgen Windcaller was a traitor that took away the Nord's best weapon because he was sad about loosing one battle. I didn’t like the balancing for the shouts, so I tweaked it. I have 6 mods to make it more meaningful, one to level with you, a skill tree for reduction, build up, and Raw power, and one where the shouts are accounted as speech, and the more you use it, the quicker the cool down👍 I might come back to this an edit in the ones I chose:D (take a note though I am on Xbox one so I don’t know about PC;)
dragonborne shout perks. thunderchild and ordinator
So would that mean a skyrim under ulfric rule is doomed to fail as he is more then willing to use the voice as a weapon and for political change when that is exactly what you aren't suppose to use it for?
Not really, the nords only lost the way of the voice because they over used it and didn't appreciate the gods, I don't think Ulf RIC would have the same problems that the ancient nords faced
ulfric respects the gods and ancient nord traditions.
the thu'um is meant to be used to venerate the gods and ulfric is using the thu'um to fight for his right to worship the nine so there is nothig wrong with that.
also ulfric mentions in conversation that, while he IS willing to use the thu'um when it is called for, he does not like having to use it.
@@windhelmguard5295 there was that thing with torryg but I think that was only there to show people he has the power, nothing more
@@windhelmguard5295 yup so long as he uses it to protect his people and bring peace to tamriel the the gods will have his back and i am a dunmer and support him and former legion shoulder like ulfric.
that remind me Guard we need to fortify the Docks in case of siege bridges and booby trap that entry way inform both ulfric your men and the leader of the Argonian that is all
A modded dragon lord/sage build would be Amazing!
Not the kind that remains passive like the greybeards. I mean the kind who would unleash the Thu'um against those who would harm your homeland, while seeking the knowledge to rule over the dragons. Would that make you an evil person in doing so? I don't think so. You would have good intentions beforehand, believing that you can unite the land of tamriel almost similar to Talos Stormcrown himself (Minus the whole power hungry motif). You would just be obsessed with dragons so much that you would try to become one yourself! You won't make deals with daedra for such reason though. You would still have the Eight/Nine on your back (Including Akatosh)...
The Nord race is my favorite I always pick the storm cloaks and help Ulfric win Skyrim back for Nords !!!!
Why? That just makes the Thalmor more likely to win the next war. If there isn't a united Empire then Tamriel will just get completely invaded.
@@redfallxenos4585 idk about that. Redguards are protecting hammerfell pretty well on there own. The United empire wasn't able to beat the thalmor the first time around. Now they have to attack the Humans all around tamriel instead of just cyrodill. Spread their resources thin to launch an attack on Skyrim, hammerfell cyrodill and high rock. They would have to do it in each races Homeland where they know the land and can prepare defense. If the thalmor decided to take their army to one province at a time that leaves them open for a counter attack (ex thalmor attack cyrodill with their main force. While they are weaker at their Homeland redguards have an easier way to end the conflict before it returns to their province
@@GirthQuake3
It is not a problem for the thalmor to attack different provinces because they are elves and they live longer, so they have the luxury of prolonging the wars. That is why in Skyrim they provoked the civil war with Ulfric, to weaken both the Empire and Skyrim. Thus it is easier to defeat the two because they are weak.
@@void9399 generally men breed faster than mer and Ave more children. (See one of the reasons for the night of tears) so that pretty much negates the prolonged war because mens ranks replenish faster. You are still missing the point. Just because they are separate doesn't make them weaker. Hammerfell was weaker when it's soldiers were defending cyrodill. They were strong enough to push the thalmor back when they were an independent province. Also they have the benefit of exterme climates and topography in places like Hammerfell, Skyrim, and high rock. It's a lot easier to take cyrodill then it is the other provinces. Plus they will be fiercely defend by they're countryman who are built for the region. It's not a walk in the park for the thalmor no matter what way the civil war goes. And I would argue an independent provinces have a better chance of beating the thalmor.
@@GirthQuake3 lmao redguards didn't protect hammerfell on their own they had help from the empire, general decianus discharged a ton of "invalids", which are veterans of the imperial army, because he felt that hammerfell was too important to be left behind, these veterans formed the core which would drive back the aldmeri dominion's force in hammerfell, to the point that their commander has thought that the empire was still in hammerfell before she retreated. Also never forget, wars are not just based on being on the field and fighting, no, wars are also based on deception, why do you think the thalmor concocted a plan to make skyrim secede from the empire? its because they know the more provinces that the empire loses, the more it loses its strength and it would be easier for them to take over cyroodiil which provides them multiple options as to where they can attack.

Argonians are best race
Luke Douglass, They really aren't. The only time in the the "elder scrolls" lore were the Argonian race are strong was when their tree like leaders were in danger. Before that the were slaves to several different races.
@@jaxyg04 well ya
There not that practical in a battle but from my personal opinion I like the argonians
Best race either Altmer, Dunmer or possibly Breton as with their natural aptitude for magic they can increase their lifespan ... With some Altmer finding affective immortality or simply living for centuries
Khajiit master race. Not to mention they are tied to the Earthbones of Mundus, presumably one of the towers

That last bit sounded more like a bunch of apologetics for why the developers failed to include the logical 1st option, where the dragonborn allies with or conquers the other Jarls (including Ulfric), becoming High King of Skyrim, then allies with or drives out the Empire.
Carnage appears.
