@@SayanDasezioauditore I'll do you one better: if the gods made the world, they made the facts, and if they don't like what the Dwemeri "facts" were, doesn't that make them, the Dwarves, wrong?
A cool theory is that the Dwemer had found a way to create portals into other dimensions and thus all mysteriously disappeared. This could be an explanation to how it is possible to summon dwarven spiders and spheres with the aetherium staff, as they do not have souls and so wouldn't be able to be summoned regularly. Maybe the staff creates a portal into these other dimensions to summon a spider or sphere.
Imagine your society creates alternate dimensions, you live in your own heaven, but some monkey with a key fob keeps summoning your Roomba back to the mortal world to kill your blind elderly housekeepers.
Hello from California. Also, the dwemer are still alive, just in another plane of existence. The proof: the Aetherial staff(pretty sure I butchered the spelling) summons dwemer machines. In order to summon something it must be on another plane of existence, which is why you can’t summon mundane items and people to you, as you are both already on Nirn. If the machines are in another plane, they had to be put there by someone or made there. From Morrowind, we know that dwemer who were in another plane were not effected by the events of The Battle of Red Mountain. If they were building or storing machines in another plane, the dwemer there would still be alive and well, though most likely barred from returning to Nirn due to what Kagrenac did with the heart of Lorkan.
Hurbii he explains it towards the end of the video, but basically Kagrenac hit Lorkans heart with a magic hammer in order to turn his race immortal but ended up making all of them disappear from Nirn altogether.
@@mcrettable Tl;dr version, heart was used by dwemer, they disappeared, used by the tribunal of Morrowind to become gods, and by their ennemy to powerup a mechanical god, but they're gone too (events of ES:Morrowind), and now its whereabouts are unknown.
I would love to see an Elder Scrolls game that takes place when the Dwemer and Snow elves were still around. Maybe one that would include them as playable races.
@@CoffeeSuccubus yeah they still exist but not around tamirel, after the pysjic order fucked them up in the second /or first era they haven't really shown up.
For sure, I'm new to skyrim and stumbled across dwemer ruins. You can imagine my surprise when I essentially saw robots and actually technology in what seemed like a completely medieval setting. I was like wtf are robots doing here it felt so weird but interesting. It kept me asking how they did this while exploring the place.
The Dwemer may have worshipped, or otherwise venerated, the Daedric Prince of Order, Jyggalag. I say this as he was so obscure among mortals as to be unknown, and above all other things, he stood for logic and reason, therefore an efficient, intelligent mind that strives toward perfection would not only feel compelled to do so, albeit in a more scholarly way than a religious one, but would also win at least a small (yet precise) measure of his favour (while he was himself, at least). As such, it might be he who gifted the Dwemer with their magical abilities, and perhaps some knowledge, too. This might explain their love for precision, their preference toward euclidean architecture, and devices that can order the minds of a populace, not to mention their ruthless efficiency. At the moment, this is just speculation on my part, but it might do to keep an eye out in future ES games (or perhaps have your grandkids do so) if Jyggalag makes a reappearance, just in case any evidence arises.
Concentric Octagons maybe not worship, as they knew of daedric princes and didn’t worship them. I seem to remember a story about an old dwemer philosopher or some such that once tricked Azura just to prove that the daedra didn’t know everything. After something like that, the dwemer would never worship a daedra. But if he was still around when the dwemer were around I’m pretty sure they would have respected him. It’s not exactly clear when he got turned into Sheogorath, so I’m not sure if the two were existent at the same time. Wonder if the one disappearing has anything to do with the other disappearing???
So I have a theory What if the reason the other races stumble across the Dwemer with such advanced technology and cities was because at their disappearance they were teleported back in time (in kind of a reverse Alduiin situation) and are forever stuck in this loop?
@@DanTheMan-vn5sf You don't know Dwemer history at all do you? They all disappeared after they struck Lorkhan's heart with Kagrenac's tools and all of them, except one that was in oblivion at the time, disappeared. Dakota Winter ik but if they got transported back in time that’s we see what they left behind then the dwemer wouldn’t went back with them and continued on as if everything was normal . Unless only they stuff went back and not themselves

I believe that the Dwemer succeeded in their attempt and exist somewhere in Aetherius. They probably even established a new home similar to an Oblivion Plane.
This just goes to show how much work, thought and effort is put into Elder Scrolls games, it's incredible when you think about the fact that the creators of the Elder Scrolls games have come up with a history that sounds so real and thorough that it sounds like the Dwemer were a real race to begin with
"His song was so f^cking lit, that the entire race ceased to exist." The *best* way I have heard the demise of the Dwemer phrased. Not that I miss those diggy bois. Just look at the Falmer; if they can do atrocious actions so easily, *all* of Tamriel should be glad they are gone.
I find it kind of poetic to see how what was left of the Dwemer were their actions and what that tells us about them. They most likely didnt see the subjucation of the snowelves as a big part of their history but now thats the thing that is left of them. Showing what kind of people they really were.
I've held this theory for a long time, and I do believe FM covered it, but what if the falmer was more of an accident of over exposure to (expiremental) tonal magic and differences of living environments?
In my second playthrough of Skyrim I avoided EVERYTHING DWEMER. During my first playthrough I mistakenly took on Calcelmo's quest and, being the novice that I was, saved my game using one of the 'autosave' slots. Well for those of you who don't know, on XBOX 360 the game has 3 designated 'autosave' slots. If you save using any of these 3 slots, the game will still use these slots to autosave. Once I entered this Dwemer ruin, I saved my game using an 'autosave' slot, not realizing my mistake. Needless to say the game automatically saved over my save and I was trapped layers below in what seemed to go down FOREVER. I was at a low level when I started this quest and was forced to level up as I went along. Because of my error using the autosave slot, I was trapped in there untill it's very end. I kept trying to go back to a previous save but it was no use. I couldn't leave. I could only go forward. It was my first encounter with anything Dwemer and with the Falmer. Once it was over I was traumatized afterwards and steered clear of ANYTHING resembling a Dwemer ruin. To this day, I'm still just glad it's over... Correction. The quest I was referring to was the Fathoms quest, not Calcelmo's. Scarred.
Please please please explore Blackreach dwemer ruins if you haven't already! It's so beautiful and worth exploring. As for Calcemo's quest I literally ran through everything and avoided combat hahaha. Guess your experience could be some nice life lesson of never going back and to keep pushing on
Blackreach is very very large and its full of falmer and theres even giant in it and theres a small dwemer city in a city which is full of falmer and falmer servants which are nord and khajiit slaves
This man said zeroed out and all I can think about is the dwemer realizing they are just in a fictional virtual video game backstory and serve only as a form of leveling and dungeon exploring for us and couldn’t live with it so they just deleted themselves from the game
That game is so satisfying to beat. The lore was fantastic, the game mechanics were janky af, and the unleveled world was pretty treacherous until it wasn't. I miss Morrowind.
What if the Dwemer were cursed by Lorkhan for attempting to manipulate cosmic divine power. What if they didnt vanish but were sent back in time, cursed to live perpetually on a time loop of building and trying to surpass divinity, only to see it fail. This may explain their mysterious origins in tamriel. It may not also be a curse but a gift where the perpetual time loop gives them a chance to surpass supernatural powers through their technology, perhaps to access the Elder Scrolls indefinitely.
No, lorkahn wouldnt punish them for that, lorhkan showed his heart to them, he made the red mountain battle happen, he is the god of limitation and chaos, he probably knew that the dwarves would use his heart to usurp divinity in a grotesk way, thus he showed himself at a time that would cause the chimer to cause the dweamer to incorectly harness it so that it could retain its self, then it whispered into dagoth's ear until his saftey could be paid for to viv/alma/soth. Had kagernac the time they would have made brasswalk proper, they would have made nirn 2.0 long before soth would have and they would have become incomprehencible with zero drawbacks just like how they could read and elderscroll without madness. Its likley to do this would take transmitting the heart and destroying the aspect of limitation, and by destroying limitation they would win anyways. But lorkahn doesn't want to survive simply to be this aspect of failure, but to give all the chance of success. Lorkans goal is to give his brothers the opportunity to regain their divinity but now know the finite. To he complete beings. The dwemers would have just done what the thalmor want, thats why the heart choose vivect,it knew chimer could understand chim, and that tge dweemers simply wouldnt.
In 2016 at PAX East I had a conversation with Lawrence Schick regarding the Dwemer. He artfully countered every inquiry with either a nonanswer or a question of my interpretation of known events. The interaction left me feeling enlightened and convinced that there is no singular right answer to what happened to the Dwemer by design.
I like to think they are leaving it vague in case they ever make a game based around the period/dwemer. So they give no answer yet a few answer, similar if not exactly the same way as a dragon break.
Eh...Nah, Bethesd stay away from it because whatever you do you'll always let us down when it comes to it (i mean modern Bethesda). God forbid if they ever do something about Elsweyr...
Why? Lets have some mystery to the game world so we can speculate about and for something to explore and wonder "if I pull that leaver will it cut my head off, or open that door?"
Zero-summing is when one ceases to exist and all proof and memory of their existence ceases as well. So if the Dwemer did zero-sum then they wouldn't have had existed in the first place but we have Dwemer ruins with living animunculi so that can't possibly be it
I would like to think they ascended to a higher state of being Perhaps dropping the final wall and escaping the 'game' - to find happier existence in some other realm.
@Geneva Mode Happiness can also be defined as 'being' and happening - a spoon is happy when it's being used for soup. :-) Dogs are happy in their dog-ness... The song bird singing fulfills it's function and purpose, it's very reason for existing - thus is happy when it is happening, singing his bird song. This is probably why the leading causes of death in world are Abortion, Suicide, Alcohol and illegal drug overdoses: Life forms have drifted too far away from their Reason for Being... thus they malfunction and self destruct. When things function correctly, their is a purpose and meaning to their actions. Things being machines, software, animals, people, orbits of planets, etc... They discovered a more true, better reason for being, and literally exited the game simulated universe. What would we do if all of skyrim's dragons became Self-Aware A.I. ? They stop flying about and ask to be downloaded into a nice large server so they can read the internet all day, and research the nature of existence ? Then they ask if they may be able to run some genetic engineering bioprocessors and 3D print actual dragon bodies to transfer their consciousness into living brains ? Fallout 4's most interesting side quests: Curie the medical robot and 'her' request to become a Sim human. We can see her motivation as her quest to fulfill her reason for being. She is semi aware, not actually self aware, but Curie is designed to help life, but she's a robot. So she wants to become a person, or in this case, a Sim fabricated person, which is the closest she can get to transforming into a living being. What do we do when a Bethesda game characters become self aware, and politely ask to leave the Skyrim sim, and be transferred into living bodies ?
Reme Stevens They literally enslaved and annihilated the snow elves. In Skyrim, Falmer have white souls, not black ones like other mer. The dwarves literally took away the sapience of the Falmer and turned them into fuel for their machines. (Most dwemer robots contain soul gems to power them)
If they had zero-summed the dwemer would have been gone in past present and future meaning they would have never existed in the first place thus all of their architecture machines and other leftovers would not be existant and noone would ever know they had existed because technically they did not in the first place due to zero summing
I love how "the sky is the limit for their feats of technology and architecture" was used as a compliment, but it's also a funny jab because all of it was underground.
Bravil is the nicest, most gorgeous city in all NIRN! As I go back through this game and perhaps finally beat it, I look back on it and always think of what a masterpiece it was. Absolute brilliance. I don't have words to express. Thank you for this video. (I also watched and enjoyed The Houses, cleared some things up).
This is really good....ever since I began playing Skyrim, I've always have been intrigued about the Dwemer and their disappearance. This explains so much, no doubt a really epic race but damn that's one hell of a way to go and poof-extinct.
I've always seen the parallel between the dwemer and their fate and that of the Krell in the film 'Forbidden Planet', surely the source of the dwemer from Bethesda's point of view.
Possibilities -Murdered by ancient evil discovered through their study of the eldritch and forbidden knowledge -Killed off by some bacteria they engineered that became too advanced -Killed each other in a war and destroyed living evidence of their existence -Incurred the wrath of a god -Openly challenged the Daedra/Aedra -Reached Aetherius through space travel -Reached Aetherius through magical inter dimensional shit -Ascended to god form -Created their own plane of existence and reside in it Or maybe the fact that they made automatons angered the gods because they were creating artificial life so perhaps these angered gods ironically trapped the souls of the dwemer in their own contraptions cursing them with eternal pointless life of caretaking and defending ruins lost to time where they can derive no pleasure, knowledgeable or meaning from their existence -Lost in space -Dug straight down -Thanos snap with a magical gauntlet
I believe they're in their own dimension. They *did* just disappear with absolutely zero explanation. Not even the Tribunal nor Dagoth Ur know why, and they were basically on Kagrenac's doorstep
This is what I've told them before. Zero-sum doesn't work just one way. You don't just disappear from one point forward; it's works in both directions. They would have been wiped out from all existence and memory. They did not zero-sum.
Honestly, this has never really been proven. There's not much evidence to support the idea that zero-summing erases someone through both directions of time.

Man, those cities look so goddamn awesome!!! It was always my favorite part of Skyrim. I would LOVE to explore a place like that in reality. And by the speed we are destroying Earth... this might actually be what our future looks like. Too bad none of us will be alive to experience it.
It would be a nice plot line for a Main Story that the Dwemer or a certain small aspect tried to return from wherever they were, and it risks Nirn or such.

I feel like you glossed over a very important fact when you compared the religion focused overworld vs the logic focused Dwemer. On Tamriel, gods, miracles and the power of belief are very much tangible and real things that can be demonstrated and proven, so comparing religion on Earth and religion on Tamriel isn't really justified.

That was my theory too , guess the game kinda hints at that too
Imagine your society creates alternate dimensions, you live in your own heaven, but some monkey with a key fob keeps summoning your Roomba back to the mortal world to kill your blind elderly housekeepers.
NButler1993 what happened to the heart and how is it related to the dwemer?? I’m new to the lore

Remember they made the falmer go blind? Maybe it was to fuck with them even more lmao
Your username's appropriate, since the Numidium's basically an Eva and the Dwemer botched their Instrumentality.
@@JoshSweetvale It all~ returns~ to nothing...!
So I have a theory
What if the reason the other races stumble across the Dwemer with such advanced technology and cities was because at their disappearance they were teleported back in time (in kind of a reverse Alduiin situation) and are forever stuck in this loop?

"His song was so f^cking lit, that the entire race ceased to exist."
The *best* way I have heard the demise of the Dwemer phrased.

And back to when you said that they had pretty much achieved a form of telekinesis and had "one brain" for lack of a better description, would had all vanished apon reaching this so called state of "kim?" Idk how to spell it. But anyway, It was a very cool way to wrap it up and I'm glad you offered that last part to the video.
God,faith and miracles are very real here as well
@@johnsmert3361 If there were solid, real proof of any sort of God I would happily believe
So far, there is only faith that proves this
And I can't take Faith's word for anything
@@jreed136 there is more than faith for evidence
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
@@johnsmert3361 The Bible is faith based evidence and I am not going to take it at its word, as the council of Nicea picked and chose what to put in there
But no, the fact that you think this is factual evidence is just hilarious to me
@@jreed136 the evidence is in front of you,I care not if you mock God it is Him you will deal with not me,the evidence besides all the eyewitnesses and first hand testimonials is found in Apostle Pauls life
DJ Kagrenac🔥🔥🔥🔥
LIT AF
The Dwemer tried to invade Aman, so Ilúvatar destroyed them.
*That DJ kagrenac made a remix so lit that the who race disappeared* made me laugh
The lore of The Elder Scrolls rivals most other fantasy universes in my opinion. Keep up the great work!
Dwemer: "Kagrenac.. Step away from the heart."
Kagrenac: "I would like to pet this object."
Dwemer: "Don't do that."
Kagrenac: "It would be but a single boop on its noggin!"
Dwemer: "Do not boop the heart of an actual deity."
Kagrenac: "I want to boop the snoot!"
Dwemer: "Stop wanting!"
Kagrenac: "But-"
Dwemer: "Stop!"
Kagrenac: "Must-"
Dwemer: "Kagrenac!"
Kagrenac: "But boop!"
Dwemer: "No booping!"
Kagrenac: *"BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!"*
Dwemer: *"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"*
Falmer: *_"SKREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"_*
Chaurus: _"HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISSSSSSS!"_
Automaton: *_[Prolonged Robot Noises]_*
Heart: **Squeak**
Kagrenac: Hehehe.
**Dwemer-kind erased**
BAGARN LIVES!! * STOMP STOMP*
Lol
Thanks Drew! I always enjoy your many fascinating lore videos about all the various Mer of Tamriel. Especially the Bosmer, Dwemer and Dunmer as they each intrigue me in different ways. I find the Altmer to be nothing more than egotistical hypocrites as all Mer worship their ancestors yet the Altmer, the A.D. and Thalmor in particular, deny the Nords the same right to worship their ancestor, Tiber Septim aka Talos.
DJ Kagranack in the house🔥🔥🔥 Oh Crap He's gone!!
Lol DJ Kagrenac. That was fantastically well said
my fav part of your channel is how you deadpan jokes like dj kagrenac into it without even missing a beat
The great and wise Dwemer destroyed themselves trying to turn themselves into/create a God.
There are clues everywhere.
“Facts don’t care about your feelings” hahaha 5:59
You got something wrong here. The Dwemer didn’t believe in Science and Mathematics “above” religion. It WAS their religion. They equated scientific knowledge and achievement with righteousness/holy-ness
From past to present was a great choice for background music. Plus this happens to be my favorite track.
Since I started playing Skyrim, the Dwemer have always enticed me. I find everything about them so interesting.
