I always tell my clients, " Oil only adds sheen." It does not have the properties to penetrate down to the cuticle. Natural hair, no matter the state needs moisture. The tighter the curl pattern, the more moisture you will need. We keep forgetting a part of moisture is water. Anytime something is dry, naturally, you use water to rehydrate. It's the same with hair. Our issues come in because of diet, global environment, and use of synthetics in our hair products. Please understand the difference between oils, butters, and moisturizers , because all three have a different function and purpose.
Team no oil here!!! Thanks. It's hard to get it in our minds that we don't need to oil our hair and it took me a while but once I got it I got it.. I love it.
I don’t use oil on my locs nor scalp either ! My scalp hates it and never liked it even when I was loose natural 🥴… my scalp produces a lot of it already !!
Thank you 🙌🏾. I find that using no product with my re twist works great for me gel almost instantaneously makes my head sweat. I barely use any oil for the same reason. My hair is so much lighter and softer.
I realize that when I do not use oil on my scalp, my hair has no smell whatsoever. Neither does my scalp itch. Whenever my hair starts to feel a bit dry, I just wash my hair and it gets the moisture back.
I went to a professional, to grt my hair retwisted.. and she said, I cant use oil anymore because my scalp got over dried. Because I put to much oil. She advised me, noy to use oil anymore, And my hair is growing like crazy😆. So only Rosewater and I wash my hair 1 time a week, and then I only put 3 drops of rosemary oil. en massage it on my scalp😊 No heavy daily oils anymore.
Who knew that oil would be counterintuitive! I experienced severe itching and dryness because of the oil, so what you're saying is on point! Thanks for sharing this important info! 🎉
I'm soooo Glad I found your channel! I just started my loc journey two months ago and I have to admit they're a bit intimidating with all the products, and practices but I love having them and I want for them to last as long as I can keep them!
I will apply oil to my scalp when I feel that I need it, which is usually during later part of fall and winter since it does get cold and dry where I live. I don't apply any oil to the length of my locs because it makes it much easier for me to clarify my hair when I wash it.❤❤❤ I really enjoyed this video!
That’s where I am now. Because my scalp has been so itchy since getting brotherlocs. I love hearing you saying that. I have so used so much oil like nobody’s business.
i don't use oil. it makes me have seb derm flare ups and nonstop itchyness. i just use rose water and a head and shoulders scalp moisturizer once ever week after washing my hair. my scalp is now perfect 🥰
Please stop telling people what’s good and not good for their scalp. She just told us that she tried it, and her scalp preferred the oil method. Respect her choice and understand that not one thing works for everybody. Some of y’all act so annoying with the “one size fits all” mentality.
I only use black soap,1 wash, once a week. No oils, gels, conditioner or anything. My locs are softandd not stiff as it was before trying this method. Love it.
I'm super paranoid about lint, and oil seems to be a magnet for it so I don't use oil on the length. Also, I don't like leaving grease stains on pillows and furniture, and had a bit of a traumatic experience of the oil bleeding the dye on my bonnet and leaving a crime scene at a hotel a few times💀 I am oiling my scalp because I've noticed a lot of tightness due to winter dryness. Plus another loc creator unlocked a new fear in me with her lice story so, we're oiling until school is out lol!
I've had my locs for 16 days, and I worry about lint daily. When you mentioned grease stains, it reminded me of the 80's jheri curl craze. Folks walked around with wet shoulders/backs, and whenever they sat on a chair, in a car, on a bus, they left behind a pool of juice. I don't miss those days!
Mine too blue magic is all I need that MIELLE oil broke my locs off in the back I was done with oils grease and water like granny use to do it and my locs are growing fast and looks good
I loc journey has been 7 years. I use oil on Mt locs. But I have never put it on my scalp. I don't flake, I have no dandruff nor do my scalp itch. I drink plenty of water. I'm good ypur giving great advise.
Oil doesn't have the ability to moisturize-- water does that. So I don't use oil in my locs or on my scalp. I spritz my hair with water every day, and that's it.
Thanks for the information dear..am definitely going to try but am terrified...i mean my hair is the super shrinking type,,aaand i work i qatar..it is flaming hot here and very humid at night some times..i just don't know how am gonna try...i first stopped using wax .i gat thick new baby locks now.
How do i get it to produce oil because im in great health, i dont use oil on my scalp, have been without for a long time and my scalp does not produce 😢😢
Do you still oil your hair during retwist? If so, will that alter the balance of the natural sebum, causing you to go through the flaky, itchy stage again?
thanks for this video. My dermatologist has me using men’s Rogaine for my thinning crown. I find it dries my hair at the root and so I’ve been adding oils after I spray with water to keep my locks supple so they don’t break off. I also bought Living Proof density serum. However, I think I’m all over the place and need to curtail. Do you have any suggestions on using oils with Rogaine? Meaning, could the Rogaine be interfering with my natural scalp oil?
I would seek your dermatologist's opinion. You could develop a reaction from using multiple products on your scalp or it could lessen the potency of the Rogaine.
Sulfur 8 medicated, I use the grease, the yellow one. Some people don't like the smell because it is a bit strong, but it is ok with me because I can notice the difference when I use it. The itchiness and flakes go away and it makes your hair grow. It is very good 😊

I haven’t used oil in my hair in 3 years. This was before I had locs and now I have had my locs for 15 months. My hair is just fine.
I went to a professional, to grt my hair retwisted.. and she said, I cant use oil anymore because my scalp got over dried. Because I put to much oil. I like to add a little oil to the length of my loc’s and it doesn’t cause any problems🙏🏿✌🏿🙏🏿
Who knew that oil would be counterintuitive!

Same. My scalp can’t tolerate oil, however I have some in a water bottle I spritz an keep it moving. No problems.

I only do a little once on wash day and nothing after that
Just got my locs these comments were so helpful !

I’ve tried it with and without and my HAIR definitely prefers oils. I don’t put it on my scalp much. I only use it 2-3 times a month
Its not preference but more like what its used to in my opinion, so if u stop and just ride it out ull see the changes over time.
Please stop telling people what’s good and not good for their scalp.

As long as ur not drenching it with oil u should be good

Girl one day I woke up and I had the sheets looking like the back of the headrest in Coming to America in the SoulGlo commercial 😂😂😂😂
Thank you!!!! I educate my SL clients about moderation of oil when it applies.👑💄💋
Everyone's hair and needs are completely different. Unless you have a one on one consultation with a loctitian, it's hard to generalise.
Never did oil on my locs, stopped doing oil in hair back in high school. I use a hair serum on my scalp that helps with my dryness.
Product name?
Thank you for sharing this information with us. Enjoy your day
Thanks for the info Ima try this 4sho 💪🏿
I like oiling my scalp, once a week.
Thank you for letting me know this because I have been using oil
I’ve been using oil too
I’m a rebel because even with microlocs my scalp LOVES grease and water. I have all the blue magics and will never use anything else
Mine too blue magic is all I need that MIELLE oil broke my locs off in the back I was done with oils grease and water like granny use to do it and my locs are growing fast and looks good
my concern with grease is: it's gonna attract all the lint in the world, and I've seen the horrible effects of lint in locs.
I loc journey has been 7 years. I use oil on Mt locs. But I have never put it on my scalp. I don't flake, I have no dandruff nor do my scalp itch. I drink plenty of water. I'm good ypur giving great advise.
I eased up on oil due to my wife’s complaints on how I ruined the headboard 😂
that ruined headboard reminds me of the 80's jheri curl craze. Juice everywhere!
I don’t use oil. I just rose water and make sure I have my humidifier is on if the air in my house is dry.
I love using oil and conditioner. I live near the desert my locs would feel like they’re going to snap off 😅
I moved to AZ a few years ago and yassss this heat is a huge difference from the Midwest where I moved from
ditched oil in 2019. never going back lol
I use it once a week
This question is off. Can i used the teas to do a steam treatment on my hair?
I live in Las Vegas if I don’t use oil my hair gets dry like carpet and my scalp breaks out and flares up inflamed.
I’m from Vegas and that hard water ain’t no joke. The itching on the body is insufferable without moisturizing. On the scalp is unbearable 😭
I just use tea tree oil really
I have locs and the only thing produce from my hair is sweat no oil
Oil doesn't have the ability to moisturize-- water does that. So I don't use oil in my locs or on my scalp. I spritz my hair with water every day, and that's it.

I can't go without oil my scalp gets so dry and cement like
How do i get it to produce oil because im in great health, i dont use oil on my scalp, have been without for a long time and my scalp does not produce 😢😢
What if your scalp gets itchy??
How you maintain your locs,
May I ask where your shop is and then DMV area?? TY
Do you still oil your hair during retwist? If so, will that alter the balance of the natural sebum, causing you to go through the flaky, itchy stage again?
I thought you were suppose to use oil as a sealant?
We must Nourish our Locs, Scalp, etc as we nourish our skin with oil sprays lotions and a plethora of products to lock that moisture in.
thanks for this video. My dermatologist has me using men’s Rogaine for my thinning crown. What do you do if you have eczema on your scalp?

I’m starting my loc journey & I’m having fun lol
