  • Sept 1989, while stationed in Germany, my wife and I took a trip back to Kitzingen to show our kids where we lived during our High School years. 17 years after we left in 1972 there were a few changes and we made this home movie to show our parents some of the changes. We were glad to be "army brats" and was glad to look back at the place we called "home". I hope all other brats who lived in Marshall Heights, will appreciate this look back at a place we all called home at one time. This is part 1 of 2. I will be posting part 2 soon.

R-Type, Super Hang On, Silkworm, Wonderboy in MonsterLand, and Double Dragon were some of the first arcade games at the bowling alley. They also had a roller coaster themed pinball machine and a roller coaster themed one as well. We visited briefly in 1990 and 2000; I think they removed the arcade games to put in slot machines. When the bowling alley opened, it was 90 cents a game. Pretty expensive when you compared it to 35 cents on Harvey Barracks.

My family lived there from 1958-1960, 30 yrs before this video was shot. I am viewing it in 2016 and wondering if it is all still the same. In this video the Youth Center (new then), the school (I was 5th and 6th grade), the commissary bldg. (my father was Commissary Officer) and the housing unit we lived in (on the hill directly behind the commissary) are all the same in this video as they were then. Perhaps the best years of my youth were lived here and these places have been living in my memories for 56 yrs now. I could sit here typing out memories for hours. I am a very nostalgic person so I truly appreciate you for making this video. Would you believe it, my father drove to work every day. :-)

    • @Doplar12

+Jim Jackson I have no recollection of bldg numbers but per the video we lived in 326 which is under new construction in the video. Second floor, street end. We used to sled down the street going toward the commissary bldg. Among many other places, including the 'farmers field' that was at the far end of our bldg. I did not remember the name of the housing area and just always referred to it as 'the housing area." Walked directly up that hill to Larson Barracks to go swimming in summer.
