    My family lived there 1958 - 60 and yes problably the best memories of my childhood were living here. You made me tear up a little Jessi when you talked about memories. My dad was commissary officer and we lived in the bldg up the hill right behind the then commissary that you first walked behind coming up the hill. I was 10 to 13 yrs old. There was no bowling alley then but the youth center (built while I was there) is the same and the elementary school right next to it. I cannot tell you all the strange feelings I get watching this video. Heck it was only 60 + yrs ago. lol ;-) Thanx Jessi.

    Brings back so many memories. We used to get 3-cent Bazooka Joe bubble gum at the little pizza trailer next to the Shopette (Pit's Pizza Place was a trailer and then they renovated with brown wooden walls and an overhang, renamed it to Pops). Sledding down Suicide Hill behind building 323. Fireworks on New Years. Harvey Barracks bowling alley was 35 cents a game and 90 cents in Marshall Heights. Just down the street from the elementary school was the VHS video store; $5.00 to rent a movie and $2.00 if you forgot to rewind it. Those weird green domes that covered empty concrete slabs (There used to one in the area at 3:18). Stars and Stripes bookstores. The E Center, Schnitzel Factory, Spaghetti Ice at the Italia Ice cream shop, Quick Burger, Dracula's grave... and the clock tower. Playing Mr. Do at the Rod & Gun club... or Green Beret at the snack bar on Larson Barracks while listening to The Fat Boys. Taking an evening walk to go downtown and find a restaurant while it was snowing. I wish I knew how special that time in my life would be. I lived in 323 (temps, watch your head!) and then 333; your story around 8:10 is a familiar one. Thank you for posting this video.
    It's a shame that these areas look like Fallout 4 now.

    OMGOSH! Lived here back from 1969-1971. It took my breath away when she mentioned Suicide Hill. We lived in the building right next to it. Was told back then the reason it was named Suicide Hill was because someone rode a sled down it and went through the fence and onto the rode in front of an oncoming vehicle and was ran over and killed. When we lived there you weren't allowed to go down that hill. I wish I can remember our building number. But we lived in L-4.

Suicide hill did not have the steps, high school was a bus ride (fun times) to Wurzburg High School. The commissary and AYA looks the same. You mentioned the memories, yes, Marshall Heights memories are my favorite. Much simpler times.

Football with no pads, I think we just threw the ball in the air and tackled each other. There was that stupid dirt hill next to our buildings that was there for like, 3 years? Loved the bowling alley, big fan of video games. Do you remember the video store way down the road just before the McDonalds at the end right when you were about to get into town?

      @@joeboo8626 I attended the middle school from 1986-8 then Würzburg American Highschool in 1989. I lived up the hill, we had to walk by "suicide" hill and walk down the stony stairs to attend the middle school. Many times, played basketball, especially during spring and summer time, by the middle school (I remembered during the early years the bowling alley was not completed). Do you remember, D...e H.? He also had a younger brother who was shorter but athletic. Another set of brothers...the middletons? I also recalled, before going further down the street before entering Kitzingen, the PX/shopette facility (and sometimes) a concession stand that often selling a type of fries. There was an elementary school there also. I had three younger brothers. I am the eldest. Br... was one of my younger brothers and I know he was on the little league football team. If you lived down the hill, by the PX and elementary school, then we may have crossed each other at the outside basketball courts by the middle school. Summer time, before attending Würzburg American Highschool, I had a summer job at Larson airfield (or was it Harvey?). My younger brother had a lighter complexion. I have a light brown complexion. Yeah, no pads, of course. Tackle (American) football, in the snow and the rain. I was 12 to 15. Let me add: I was called "Chris" and I was a tall like 6'1" (at that time of my life). If you saw me playing basketball, I was the one blocking the shots and getting rebounds. Do you remember the basketball exhibition game in the middle school's gym? I think it had to be in 1988? At the bowling alley, I usually played the hockey arcade game. Also, we did not have a McDonald's. Burger King was on base - Harvey, with the movie theatre.

    • @joeboo8626
      @joeboo8626 Рік тому +1

      @@cristiangerardinobilityhou5410 Yeah, I lived in the same building as you and we attended the same middle school at the same time. I didn't play organized football, I wasn't athletic at the time; a late bloomer (I was 5' 4" as a freshman and grew over 8 inches that year). We did play raquetball on Larson, though and frequently went to the "Schwimmbod". I think Mr. Kowalski wore a dress for a bit in the basketball game you're referencing, cheating to try to even the score. Can't remember who won. The concession stand by the shopette also sold calzones and bazooka joe gum for 3 cents. I think it was named Pit's Pizza Pit and then Pops a year or two later. It's been removed and there's a house there now. There actually was a McDonald's; it was built on top of the old brewery around 1988 just before we left. Whenever you came home from Larson or Harvey, the brewery was just to the right as it split the road. It was like a hill, but the end was large bricks with a door and some railing. There were bushes and trees on top of it (very strange structure); the McDonald's was behind the trees. Just past the brewery would have been the video store on the left, then a place that sold Hummels, and eventually the Elementary School, Pits/Pops, and Shoppette. I used to get football cards there all the time, random toys, and soda/pop cans were 25 cents. The Burger King was on Harvey, next to their bowling alley and in the same building as the tower. They would sometimes bring in a carnival on the airstrip, but the only ride I remember was "The Hopster" which would definitely be illegal in the U.S. The only person I think would fit your description had black hair; light brown complexion; he was big guy for his age. J...h. He was a 49ers fan. When we first moved there in '85, we lived in building 333; suicide hill was right behind it. Took a lot of bumps and bruises on that mother. I don't remember the hockey game at the bowling alley... but I do remember Super Hang On, Double Dragon, Combat School, Wonderboy in Monster Land, Jackal, Silkworm, DragonNinja (Bad Dudes), and R-Type. They also had a police pin ball and a roller coaster pinball machine. Did you ever have Spaghetti Ice or go to the Shnitzel Factory? Man, those were the days.
