markeetawins Me too, my first time with my first love. I was 18, he 19. My girlfriends asked me if I cried, and I honestly had to say I didnt, becausereally I found no reason to. He was truly a great, wonderful and tender teacher.
Many years later my father told me he came around asking for me. Then some years later I found out why. He was diagnosed with brain cancer and had since died. My tears ran worse than the worse storm. But at least I found out why he was looking for me. I shall NEVER forget him.
I went to the same high school (Thornton Township in Harvey, IL), and my sister married Chuck's brother, so I KNOW the Dells. They had wonderful harmonies that were just beginning to really be explored when Charles Stephney unexpectedly passed. They also have two major distinctions - Johnny Carter was one of only 2-3 people to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with two groups (Dells and Flamingos) AND they stayed together for five decades without having someone leave or want to have "top billing". A truly special group.
Saw the Dells in 60's/70's Oakland Collisium Ca. I'll never forget it, they brought the HOUSE Down! The Temptations were there too and couldn't even come close to what the Dell's did. What a Night!! Have to add, when we arrived in the parking lot there was all these new cars with the big white wall tires and the guys stepping out were wearing differnt colour suites from bright blue to bright orange with their pimp hats to match and the women were wearing gowns and dresses as if they were in Hollywood on the red carpet . We had good seats about 5 rows from the stage. The Dells had orange/pink sutis and by the time their performance was over they were dripping wet. That's how much they put in to their songs.
