And to think, there are those that dismiss these grooves as merely Disco?! Thereby robbing themselves of the enjoyment of the arrangements, instrumentality, and varied voices coming together in a groovin’ song story. I said it in several words, but Mz Thompun, before me, said it in one--Soul is the word.
I remember watching this on Soul Train. NEVER missed it. EVERYTHING stopped in our house/neighborhood for one hour, EVERY SATURDAY from 12:00-1:00 for THIS! LOVED the commercials just as much during this hour. Good times
There's a lot of "church" in Teddy's voice. So many great soul singers learned to sing as kids in church- Otis Redding, Little Richard, Aretha, Johnny Taylor, Al Green, etc. A great way to hone their gifts, and learning to convey unbridled emotion. This song gives me chills. Thanks for posting.
Yeah, church is a good place for that. But this music is in the DNA of the original people, which is way before there was such a thing as church, and could come back if we would access it.
This is when music had so much soul. Our entertainers didn't always have to curse in their songs or thing about a lot of sexual contacts. Yet we still have fun and enjoy the music.

@@mauriceadamson224 Agreed
👍 Yes!
Pendergrass was one of the best. A tragedy.
2024 and still going strong. What happened to the world? Glad to be a part of some of the best of times. How lucky we are being a part of the past.
*My man, Teddy!!! Where has the time gone??? Teddy Pendergrass had such a beautiful and soulful voice!!!* 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
The way hes just jamming so hard with that smile on his face as he sings "im in misery, cant you see". Straight wholsome gold
Omg! I was looking for this comment!! This is an entertainer!! You couldn’t even tell this was sad
He commands the audience as if he's alone on stage. It is mesmerizing and awesome!
People always smiled in the 70s. Heeheehee
Great group ! There will never be another Teddy P. ! He owns this song ! Still Slaying 2022 !
Glenn, The world at this stage needs this! Right!
@@tractordave9300 couldn't agree with you more brother ! Miss these R n B legends !
Truth Indeed
I could NEVER get enough of this spectacularly beautiful song. Hal Mel & The Bluenotes ft Teddy is eternally awesome.
Love the long instrumental intro to this song. Really sets the tone for the lyrical story.
@@jimmyrutledge5115 Yes. Most of their songs seemed to lead with incredible intros. The TSOP writers were geniuses. I still love that vibe.
What a great singer Teddy was. He and and Levi Stubbs were the greatest soul singers.
Greatest Baritones of all time..
( Just my opinion )
David Ruffin
Marvin Junior
Teddy Pendergrass
Tyrone Davis
William Wee Gee Howard
Levi Stubbs
Dennis Edwards
Eddie Levert
Gerald Levert
Alexander O'Neal
Johnny Gill
Dave Hollister
Cedric Haley
Lou Rawls
Amazing that Teddy was only 24 when this song was recorded. His power is unmatched.
Levi was a great powerful singer also. He could have gone solo but chose to stay and keep The Four Tops together.
They both had powerhouse voices .Now we only hear cat's piss voices.
This sound cradled my childhood. I feel so blessed to have been born in the 70s!
We had some great music in the 70s. Back in 1974 when this was a hit I was in the United States Marine Corps, stationed on Okinawa at Camp Foster. My girlfriend mailed me the Dreaded Dear John Letter. It broke my heart. But, by 1981 I married the cutest lady in the world. We celebrated our 43rd Anniversary on 21 March 2024.
Teddy was extremely exceptional gifted singer ! Wow ! Only one Teddy 1:14
Teddy is without any doubt the greatest soul singer of all time. He literally put his heart and soul into every song.the blue notes backed him sublimely.this is my fav video of them. Majestic.
I love teddy p may he rip
TP was the Man.
He left this group because he got tired of people thinking his name was Harold Melvin.
Yes king of soul
@@tannhauser7584 Harold shoulda moved over one and let Teddy lead it.
No one has come close to introducing anyone like Don Cornelius. RIP.
Too sad
A true legacy to history. Gave us so much joy/ Amen!
It'll never be accomplished such a tragic ending to a famed stellar career may Don Cornelious rest in peace
The race me n my sister's had to clean house to watch soul train why with clean swept n mopped floors we had our own Soul train line going on Just facts outnumbered 5sisters to 1 bro.. this homie was trained out n tyyyyeeeerrrd but thank You Mr Cornelious Soul train great memories great music always
Looked so forward to Saturdays...
The Sound of Philadelphia.
It’s 2022 and this song still sounds great love it
@Felicia Benjamin, Now it's 2023! Music healing to the soul.
2023 also
Hello Felicia how are you doing?
A time when we had REAL MUSIC
Thank You.
Was a blessing from God and to bless black voice's to give the world
And to think, there are those that dismiss these grooves as merely Disco?! Thereby robbing themselves of the enjoyment of the arrangements, instrumentality, and varied voices coming together in a groovin’ song story. I said it in several words, but Mz Thompun, before me, said it in one--Soul is the word.
Not like the vomit we have to endure nowadays.
I remember watching this on Soul Train. NEVER missed it. EVERYTHING stopped in our house/neighborhood for one hour, EVERY SATURDAY from 12:00-1:00 for THIS! LOVED the commercials just as much during this hour. Good times
Undeniably downright classy singers. No nasty lyrics, fully clothed, wonderful stage presence. So glad I grew up in this era. Loved this group ❤
Me too
Couldn't agree more, best tunes, singers, videos...miss those happy times back in the 70's
Idem amigos ..Idem 🤗
Absolute masterpiece of a song 0:20
I second that notion!
Truth Indeed AMEN
Still a killer tune in 2022 Teddy is the man !
The blue notes were never the same after teddy left!
True talent sadly missed! - This is REAL soul music! - First it hurts you, then it heals you! - WOW!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Still lovin soul in August 2024🎉❤
It's now 2024,and I still love it
This is when music had so much soul. Our entertainers didn't always have to curse in their songs or thing about a lot of sexual contacts. Yet we still have fun and enjoy the music.
Went from this to garbage cardi b
@anna crime There is not that much to compare. That is just my opinion.
Now we have voices that are as weak as cat's piss.
@@bigpants6121 Oh my stars. I have never heard! that one., 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@theronedawson3236 When I get youngsters telling me how good the boy bands are today I just show them a clip of James Brown/ Maceo/ Stubblefied live singing Cold Sweat and Ride your pony. I win hands down! Now that's entertainment!
I turned 71 on New Year's Eve thank you Jesus for bringing through another year, and here I am on January 2 2023 still listening to Teddy his voice just goes right through me taking me back to those days of good music and good loving and not a care in the world 💟

Teddy was a handsome chap. Pure class.
Beautiful music.
How many are Still watching this in 2023?? ❤️ Best Wishes!!
I bet someone will be watching in 20 yrs

Me ! each day, from France ( born in 1964)
Are you kidding? This type of music is all I listen to . The worse thing that ever happened to pop music is when the Beatles got off the plane in New York.
if anybody finds a time machine to go back to the 70s please come and get me, life was so simple back then
No gimmicks just 100% talent teddy I will you forever
I'm 65, white, love rock n roll but even at a very young age tunes like this one hit me deep w/different emotions. You feel like crying but yet you really feel like dancing too. Always loved this group & there high energy. I just discovered this vid & to me it's the best. R.I.P. & t/y Sir Teddy !

@@trishmarsh1968 me too, in fact even a few classical pieces.
Feel like crying because the Era is bygone, these guys sang from their souls, and the music was beautiful. And who cares about your color or lack of color?
Teddy P. had such a distinctive and soulful voice. I was a big fan of the Motown sound of the 1960s and the Philadelphia sound of the 1970s
J ai bien connue la Motown avec tant d autres que J ai beaucoup aimer et danseah !!ou sont nos plus belles années 😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
Still listening to this song 2024 rock on 70’s soul music 🤘
So smooth and classy this is real music. No profanity, half naked butt cheeks, tattoos are men in dresses. Just pure beautiful talent all day long God I miss those days. Now all we have is over sexualized talentless , profane heathens.
well said my man....chk out my post
Yes you are right lulu, all we got is the beautiful memories ❣️
so true talentless turned out by artificial talent shows and i use the word talent lightly ...
Oh yes! Totally joyous music with great vibes coming from the Soul Train dancers. Is it me or were people better looking back in the day? Natural beauty! Great clothes! Great poise!
