that's not console war you're referring to, console war implies toxic comportment that have for only goal to make your side look better. You just like gaming history.

Great video! I would like to add on a little story of my own. From my knowledge, the very very first "console wars" were between magnavox and atari. Long story short, atari "ripped off" magnavox in some way so they sued, atari caved, but magnavox basically died the very next console generation, and has become only known by nerds or people who read comments like these, while atari basically became the start of the video game legacy.
Why to buy each brands consoles:(imo) -nitendo(exclusives,family friendly games...) -Xbos(online...) -Playstation(exclusives...) -sega(nostalgia) -atari(if you are a colector) -megavox(to flex that you have the first console ever)
I bought my PS3 because the online was free (mostly Destiny), then I bought my PS4 specifically for Bloodborne, earned some trophies and said "well, I guess this is me now".
But... but... "Playstation is awesome! They have good grafix and exclusive games!" "Xbox is awesome! They have even better grafix and they have Gamepass!" "Nintendo is awesome! They have Mario and Zelda and those games have 'art style', and I hate online features anyway!"
I find it funny that Nintendo kinda just watches their competitors on the side lines selling 10 million copies of Zelda in 3 days. And people call them the “underdog” of the console wars.
the saddest thing is that most of the gamers who actually partake in this shit very likely spend more time complaining about video games on Twitter than actually playing video games.
yeah, i've already spent way too much time on twitter. and i did involve in some arguments. but they were not about consoles - i like all the platforms and wanna collect more after some time. they were about the game i spent 6 times more time in than any other game - geometry dash. basically, there is a biggest update that ever was and will be coming, so some ppl are complaining about physics changes. and i respond them that most players don't care

The back half of this video was perfection. These twitter takes are making social media worse are fueled by people getting paid from impression counts on twitter
I remember my first time switching to PC. There was no war. Everyone is super friendly. No monthly subscription required. The game discounts are amazingly cheap. Everyone is super social and wants to play together. Despite my first PC purchase was a gaming laptop with a GTX 1650, the performance was still really good. My next upgrade was an RTX 3080, CPU i7 12th gen with a motherboard with wifi 6. Man, that PC ran games as smooth as butter. I have play on every console version of Playstation and Xbox and I love several games on both. The console wars is a waste of breath.
Oh god... Twitter is a wasteland when it comes to console wars. The amount of cope, pettiness and downright stupidity is concerning. I seen some xbox fan page intentionally glitch himself in the new Spider-Man game and then he went on a whole rant about how the game was broken and Pony (whatever those are? I'm guessing Sony) are malding. And then I went on his page and he has 40k posts and I'd say a good 95% of them are defending xbox. It's an actual unchecked mental illness.
For real gamers it was NEVER about who has the most teraflops, the best GPU or whatever. And some gaming companies have never understood this. For us real gamers it is one simple three letter word that matters the most to us: FUN
I was way too young during the Xbox 360/PS3, which is why I don’t recall console wars back then, I was too busy playing the Halo games that released during that time, wasn’t witnessing passive aggressive/trash talking replies in the comment section, but all we can do is just laugh and it right?
I admit to being into the console wars when I was in middle school. Half the boys in my grade were, and they'd have arguments about it all the time in the restooms and in the cafeteria. It's pretty forgivable for kids to do that, it was a harmless way to pass the time and it's one of the few issues they have to worry about. It's pretty sad to see so many fully grown men (and I'll assume a few women) take part in it. They're not accomplishing anything, and they make it harder to talk about games with other people online.
They already have a healthy surplus of morons joining the army. Imagine being dumb enough to join any army. What kind of psychopath loser wakes up one day and says “I’ll join the army maybe I kill or get killed for some old billionaire sitting comfortably in his office” 😂
Remember when console wars used to be a friendly competition. Those were the good old days at the time. Sadly it’s all about harassing people on “X” for playing on a inferior console. All I ever want is to have fun. No matter which console I’m playing at.
The console wars was something I had no concept of growing up. By the time I was 14-15, I’d owned at least one console from every manufacturer, and I had played games on every platform - Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, PC. Hell, I think I might’ve experienced the Dreamcast over at my old friend’s house, so I even squeezed Sega in there too. Same goes for things like mascot platformers. Mario VS Sonic? Crash VS Spyro? I had all four of them.
I agree that people who are fueling the console wars are usually under the age of 15, but the console war itself is actually really good for the consumers, because xbox, ps, and nintendo will try even harder, and make better games so they can compete. (the downside is the studio crunch but that's an another thing)
Unfortunately that's not how it works anymore. Both Xbox and Playstation release unfinished broken games well below standards we expect. They don't push each other to do better anymore, those days died back when the Console Wars died, in like 2013. Now, it's just bickering and useless jabbing "Oh you're buying a company? Let me delay that in court as long as I can just to spite you" is the new stauts quo.
@@Perseus7567 What? How is PlayStation releasing broken unfinished games? All Horizon games were very playable and finished day one, the same goes for the God of War games and Spiderman games. @@Adamtendo_player_1 Cyberpunk? Are you drunk? What does Cyberpunk have to do with PlayStation? It's nether a Sony studio game and nether an exclusive where you can say PlayStation is involved a little. Is just a third party title, nothing more. Also the vast majority of first party PlayStation titles aren't filled with microtransactions ether. Where do you see microtransactions in any of the titles i mentioned? The biggest guilty is probably GT7 and is still not pay to win and still has everything available threw gameplay. This is just funny as hell, you left PlayStation angry because of third party developers that have nothing to do with PlayStation. If you are gonna be angry at PlayStation at least be for something valid.
@@SIPEROTH it has everything to do PlayStation because it was on the PlayStation. Maybe it wasn’t a PlayStation exclusive game, but the fact still remains that Sony too focused on their crappy live service and their games are over the complicated and clunky, the biggest reason is Sony has forgotten what made them so successful. Nintendo started the wars and then went peaces out of it and did their own thing that got them reach while the others just war on another... That's called strategy
Moving to PC in 2016 was like retiring from the war. It felt great and it feels even better now having access to xbox titles and Sony titles on one machine.
Nowadays it's really less about box vs box but two different visions of the market/industry future. The Playstation (and somewhat Nintendo) guys are more favorable to the status quo with full price gaming in a varied industry while the Xbox (and somewhat PC) guys champion all digital, subscription services and industry consolidation.
Nitendo are smarter then Microsoft and Sony game division that why been in the video games since 80 and will be in when Sony and Microsoft get out it both Sony and Microsoft make most their money outside video games

what was positive about the console wars, was that it forced the brands to innovate and give their best to gain customers but now, there's no point, since it's literally just people arguing on twitter
Console wars kinda stopped meaning anything when people started being able to emulate gba, nds and PlayStation consoles well. There’s a large library of old games that aren’t immoral to emulate since copies are no longer being sold.
9:24 No, it's not really just an opinion. Sony can't just buy massive AAA companies like Microsoft does, and in that way cod is unique. Regardless of your opinion on cod, the profits it makes and the people it can bring into a console ecosystem make it insanely valuable. If Xbox just decided to make Cod exclusive next generation, that could be devastating for Sony. Sony can't counter this as easily, as they actually need to make money from their gaming division while Microsoft is Microsoft. Microsoft could buyout 15 Sony's and still have money left .
But that's not really a defence because Sony also have non-Console sources of income, which if they wanted to can direct in to the Gaming industry. They dominate other markets such as Films, electronic equipment and so on. Sony made $89bn in after-tax profit in in the year ending June 30th 2023. It admittedly won't leave them much, but if they wanted to, they could've afforded ABK at $69bn. In fact, ABK and Sony already were quite amicable, so the negotiated deal probably would've cost Sony less than what Microsoft had to pay. But Sony didn't bother and/or didn't want to go for it, and they lost out. That's just how it goes, they were unhappy Microsoft made the move first, and threw a hissy fit. It happens.
you made the perfect correlation to the WW2 Japanese lost soldiers, who were unable to comprehend the fact that the war is gone, and so was their whole reason for existence.
The console war of the 90s brought out the best in companies with them constantly trying to one up each other. Now it seems more like a race to the bottom and the customer loses no matter what.
It's crazy how much gamers defend companies that make Billions in annual PROFIT. Not even revenue just pure profit. You're a wallet to them nothing more

not actually into console wars, i just wanted a setup for a nintendo infighting joke
I like the console wars, not because I want to prove a point, but just because it's interesting to analyse what companies did well or less so, and why that is. Plus it's cool to see the history.
This. Each company excels in so many ways and falls short in so many ways too. I like it as a healthy competition but it really has become a toxic debate since the Xbox One and PS4 launch.
that's not console war you're referring to, console war implies toxic comportment that have for only goal to make your side look better.
You just like gaming history.
@@maximini4923 probably true, but calling it the console wars sounds more epic lmao
@@Und3rcov3r I didn't think of that, so true
@@maximini4923 A console war is a competition between video game consoles manufacturers in trying to achieve better consumer sales through more advanced console technology, an improved selection of video games, and general marketing around their consoles. When did it ever became "toxic" comportment between consoles?
Thank you. I see so many ppl act like they’re neutral but then post something negative about the side they hate, knowing it’s gonna cause a stir, but swear on their life that they dc about the console wars. It’s cringe 😭 lol
Remember kids, independent unbiased journalism is cringe.
Why to buy each brands consoles:(imo)
-nitendo(exclusives,family friendly games...)
-Xbos(online...)
-Playstation(exclusives...)
-sega(nostalgia)
-atari(if you are a colector)
-megavox(to flex that you have the first console ever)
I bought my PS3 because the online was free (mostly Destiny), then I bought my PS4 specifically for Bloodborne, earned some trophies and said "well, I guess this is me now".
Yeah, free online was awesome 👌
I agree. 👍
Was Destiny during PS3? I thought it was with the next generation that released.
@SIPEROTH yes actually I remember playing it back when I couldn't afford a ps4, lol
Really happy a lot of people grew up and realized that fighting on behalf of multimillion dollar corporations that will never care about you is stupid
But... but...
"Playstation is awesome! They have good grafix and exclusive games!"
"Xbox is awesome! They have even better grafix and they have Gamepass!"
"Nintendo is awesome! They have Mario and Zelda and those games have 'art style', and I hate online features anyway!"
@@N.i.E.M.O You forgot that "Your system sucks!"
@@N.i.E.M.O I agree but, pls don't do Nintendo dirty like that
I find it funny that Nintendo kinda just watches their competitors on the side lines selling 10 million copies of Zelda in 3 days.
As a kid I was a passionate Xbox fanboy. As I got older I got a PS4 after not liking the Xbox One and loved it. Then i got a Switch in 2018 and I realized as an adult that they are all great
Underrated comment
It's like fighting over which type of paper your favorite book is printed on.
HES BACK 🎉
I appreciate how orchestral music throughout the background of this video--not a common choice for console/video game discussions, but an appreciated one for me.
I think the last time console wars really mattered was the 7th gen. After that (and even _in_ that gen), consoles just became so similar that it didn't matter which one you bought, we were all doing the exact same thing with them (unless you owned a Nintendo console).
Wii owners were stuck with (often forced) waggle controls, PS2 graphics, and the worst online service ever (til the Switch came out).
@@N.i.E.M.O I was mainly talking about Xbox/PlayStation, that's why I said Nintendo consoles were doing different things.
also can someone please tell me why switch online is so bad
Still better to get ps because of exclusives imo
@@zemchia
Switch Online is considered to be terrible when compared to literally every other online service that has existed since 2005 with the Xbox 360.
The only other online services that are close to being as feature and stability deficient as NSO would be other Nintendo platforms (although in some ways some of them actually had more features, a lot even - even if they mostly sucked anyway, there was at least an effort, which we certainly aren't getting with NSO ).
If you’re buying a Nintendo console, it’s just the assumption that online isn’t great and that the graphics aren’t great. It’s not like anyone expects them to acutely be good at that stuff
I will say. After that ad for Brilliant I really will take that! You really know how to work your stuff
This is one of the reasons why I left the gaming community. Is there any benefit to fighting? When I see them even making threats, I just sigh.
Specially with this generation of consoles. Nothing good can result from console wars. Whoever wins, we all lose.
Yes, fighting for your gaming ideals, I don’t participate in these console wars much but I have picked a side and that side is Nintendo, it stems from them being the only traditional video game company left and their games speak to me more than PlayStation and Xbox games.
@@Adamtendo_player_1you have a preference, which we all have, but using the term "ideals" for a simple piece of plastic created by a multi billion company only to sell, is just childlish.
I did enjoy the console war stuff as a kid. It was fun arguing about dumb things. Then when a friend got a particular game like Halo, Devil May Cry, or Smash Brawl, NOW suddenly everybody switches which console is the best and we all want to play at their house until the next big game 😅.
The back half of this video was perfection. These twitter takes are making social media worse are fueled by people getting paid from impression counts on twitter
Neckbeards feel the need to breathe oxygen. 😂😂
Using hi-fi rush as an example is just glorious with recent events
I remember my first time switching to PC. There was no war. Everyone is super friendly. No monthly subscription required. The game discounts are amazingly cheap. Everyone is super social and wants to play together. Despite my first PC purchase was a gaming laptop with a GTX 1650, the performance was still really good. My next upgrade was an RTX 3080, CPU i7 12th gen with a motherboard with wifi 6. Man, that PC ran games as smooth as butter. I have play on every console version of Playstation and Xbox and I love several games on both. The console wars is a waste of breath.
They absolutely exist. Twitter is hell. They're so petty and dramatic.
@@ShaquilleOatmeal849 twitter is a wasteland when it comes to literally everything. Stupid social media
I see console fanboys a lot on UA-cam and Facebook, too. It's not exclusive to X.
For real gamers it was NEVER about who has the most teraflops, the best GPU or whatever. And some gaming companies have never understood this.
For us real gamers it is one simple three letter word that matters the most to us: FUN
Console wars are the silliest thing, you need them all if you're a true gamer.
The last time I feel the console wars was a thing was probably Xbox 360, ps3 and the Wii
@@nyaranciayou right lmao i haven’t had a twitter since 2016 so I have no clue what’s going on
I was way too young during the Xbox 360/PS3, which is why I don’t recall console wars back then, I was too busy playing the Halo games that released during that time, wasn’t witnessing passive aggressive/trash talking replies in the comment section, but all we can do is just laugh and it right?
The console wars were so tough that Sega had to retire 💀
I admit to being into the console wars when I was in middle school. Half the boys in my grade were, and they'd have arguments about it all the time in the restooms and in the cafeteria. It's pretty forgivable for kids to do that, it was a harmless way to pass the time and it's one of the few issues they have to worry about. It's pretty sad to see so many fully grown men (and I'll assume a few women) take part in it. They're not accomplishing anything, and they make it harder to talk about games with other people online.
11:15 was not expecting Star Fox Zero to get mentioned lmao
PC all the way, baby. We now get basically all the games, emulation, and sales.
HOLY CRAP…. This was AWESOME!!! Good stuff🎉
They might as well fight for their country with that much dedication lol
Can't, because not enough time playing games when you are in the army. 😅
They already have a healthy surplus of morons joining the army. Imagine being dumb enough to join any army. What kind of psychopath loser wakes up one day and says “I’ll join the army maybe I kill or get killed for some old billionaire sitting comfortably in his office” 😂
All I can say is I've got Game Pass PC, a PS4 with most exclusives available on it, and a switch, and I use all 3 regularly
welcome back man, thought i'd never hear from you.
Also nintendo wii won the console wars back then, people just hate the truth.
Remember when console wars used to be a friendly competition. Those were the good old days at the time. Sadly it’s all about harassing people on “X” for playing on a inferior console. All I ever want is to have fun. No matter which console I’m playing at.
It’s not a console war anymore it’s a content war
Honestly everybody has a preference when it comes to gaming but some won’t admit it and some take it too far.
You gotta admit it’s so entertaining seeing all the fanboys argue
ahhhh i remember seeing your 5th video that blew the fuck up when you only had like 1k subs. So happy youve grown so much and i got to see it.
TLDR: Sony V Microsoft over stupid things, Nintendo print money.
Gotta love how Stryxo decides to upload a new video exactly when Wildspartanz goes on a hiatus
Blast processing was too advanced for the game devs to handle
Funfact: most ps2 sales are from the fact that it had dvd capabilities and dvd players used to be WAY too expensive.
All 3 companies are garbage in their own ways.
"Babe wake up, a new Stryxo video just dropped."
Consoles have been rendered obsolete on December 20th, 2022 when Super Lesbian Animal RPG launched as a PC exclusive.
Ratchet and Clank the same, Demon Souls the same, Returnal the same, Ghost of Tsushima the same, Keina: Bridge of Spirits the same etc etc. I have no idea what you are on about?
@@SIPEROTH what about Cyberpunk 2077? That was a broken mess of a game and you haven’t even justified the money grabbing micro transactions from PlayStation and Xbox, thankfully Nintendo is all about the games and the gameplay and is the only one that’s getting my money, glad I left PlayStation behind for Nintendo as PlayStation sucks.
@@Adamtendo_player_1 Cyberpunk?
Are you drunk? What does Cyberpunk have to do with PlayStation?
It's nether a Sony studio game and nether an exclusive where you can say PlayStation is involved a little.
Is just a third party title, nothing more.
If we simply take any random third party titles then we have to accuse Nintendo for Mortal Kombat being bad on their console or having microtransactions which is just silly.
Where is Nintendo is the only traditional gaming company left and I’m a traditionalist I never cared about 4K graphics. I care about gameplay and access with you and none of PlayStation games are really accessible to newcomers. Where as the Nintendo games are more fun.
It’s still not over my two friends went on a 30 minute rant about it I was like damn bro just enjoy the damn games
Couldn’t agree more. I think exclusivity is also dumb. Exclusives should be timed and have a guarantee to launch on competing platforms eventually
Business wise they make sense I believe. Sure ton of people with other systems will not like it but it gives value to your platform.
i think the console wars can just be dumb fun bickering with friends as long as nobody gets harassed
Nintendo started the wars and then went peaces out of it and did their own thing that got them reach while the others just war on another... That's called strategy
@Stryxo thank you for making this video :)
Crazy seeing the 30+ year old men that still care about console wars and never grew up
Moving to PC in 2016 was like retiring from the war. It felt great and it feels even better now having access to xbox titles and Sony titles on one machine.
I want to apologize for being a hardcore Nintendo fan
Console war never made any sense to me. Getting my first pc only made that more clear…
Then I discovered emulation… uh… I never looked back…
Nowadays it's really less about box vs box but two different visions of the market/industry future.
The Playstation (and somewhat Nintendo) guys are more favorable to the status quo with full price gaming in a varied industry while the Xbox (and somewhat PC) guys champion all digital, subscription services and industry consolidation.
Welcome back Stryxo! Great video!
It does not matter which console wins. Just have fun and cut the yap, damn...
YEES A NEW STRYXO VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember playing on a friends console once... Then I went home and booted up my pc with reverence and thankfulness
On god
As you get older, you learn what's Important and what's not Important!! If you don't get it, you still got some learning to do!!
It fascinates me how Nintendo doesn’t really compete with other companies, and yet they tend to make absolute BANK.
Nitendo are smarter then Microsoft and Sony game division that why been in the video games since 80 and will be in when Sony and Microsoft get out it both Sony and Microsoft make most their money outside video games
Cos they are primarily a software company they make first party titles.
I remember the late 90's when it was Nintendo vs Playstation, man was that fun
I'm really surprised that the Steam Deck wasn't mentioned at all in this video
I feel like it would have been a great way to talk about pc gaming
Probably because PC gaming wasn’t the focus lol
he mentioned pc wdym? its jsut another option for it
I like to imagine myself being an amalgamation of all console combined freaking out the Console Warriors.
Since I play all the consoles.
The console wars are fine, as long as the people look at both sides and see the good and tye bad and decide what's best, the rational discuss it with people
No it's not, it's extremely chilshid childshid childshisd I don't know how to spell that
@BeRnUgEeK As I have seen by your spelling u are a little kid and probably isn't grown up enough to have a say
what was positive about the console wars, was that it forced the brands to innovate and give their best to gain customers
but now, there's no point, since it's literally just people arguing on twitter
Stryxo upload? I thought he took the money and ran?!?
Great video by the way (xbox on top)
Oooo🤨 Playstation is on bottom and nintendo is switch
Xbox da goat
Atari better
If it's game quality and exclusives, then no one will beat the juggernaut franchises Nintendo has.
The console wars is honestly one of the most cringiest debates in history!
I ain't even gonna lie, you pitched Brilliant... well, rather brilliantly.
Console wars kinda stopped meaning anything when people started being able to emulate gba, nds and PlayStation consoles well.
There’s a large library of old games that aren’t immoral to emulate since copies are no longer being sold.
It's never immoral to sail the seven seas scallywag
TLDR: console wars suck when your favourite is losing
Solving the console war
Xbox: doesnt have genshin impact
Playstation: has genshin impact
Conclusion: the xbox wins
This timeline wouldn’t exist if Sony and Nintendo went through with the PlayStation prototype.
Wait, my favorite twitter shitposter has a youtube channel
The console war of the 90s brought out the best in companies with them constantly trying to one up each other. Now it seems more like a race to the bottom and the customer loses no matter what.
I like the console wars because I'd rather people fight over games than about religion, politics, or a lot more real things.
Tbh, Console Wars are pretty cringe, but those other topics are way worse, so I have to give you that.
On second thought, let's start ramping up the console wars again.
