Ennio Marricone is only 10? Are you kidding me? How is that even possible?
+ttv0 I disliked this video for that reason
+ttv0 Because those who chose the list are utter morons.
+ttv0 Morricone, Zimmer, and Williams are the greatest 3. Fuck what WatchMojo thinks
Chase Kaplan It should illegal to pull something like this.
+ttv0 I'm not sure how many of WatchMojos videos you have watched... They pick the right contenders but rank them completely wrong!!!! and their facts are completely unresearched. In this one video they were giving a description of Pearl Harbor (film) and they called the Japanese the Japanese Army. when back then it was the Imperial Japanese NAVY. They can't not know stuff like that...
Before watching this I assume: #2 Hans Zimmer and #1 John Williams
I was wrong
at least williams is #1
I thought so too. But Elfman and Hermann above Zimmer? That's laughable. Zimmer is by far the most famous composer of our time next to Williams. And Zimmer is far the most innovative when it comes to his music.
Murad Peret But Elfman is more iconic in his works. The Simpsons is one of, if not the the most iconic TV theme of the last 50 years alone.
Murad Peret yeah, Justin Bieber is famous too u know.
Zimmer is just a big sellout...
You guys should be in prison for putting Morricone number 10.....
Good comment!
facts
Absolutely
It should be illegal to put Morricone in number 10!!!
If you say Morricone, one of the first things that comes in my mind is the epic score of "once upon a time in the west". There is no mention of it in this mojo episode. An absolute shame. And yes he should be ranged higher.
Spielberg - John Williams
Nolan - Hans Zimmer
Burton - Danny Elfman
Peter Jackson - Howard Shore
Exactly
Cameron - James Horner
Horner was going to do the Avatar sequels too.
Could also add Trent Reznor and Atticus Rose with David Fincher lately
Sergio Leone - Ennio Morricone ❤️❤️❤️
honestly, ennio morricone should at least be in top three.
yes you r absolutely right..but they wont give ... bcoz he is an italian...i just hate watchmojo...(they didnt mention even once upon a time in the west)
This is just superb, I've been looking for "can a piano player play the organ?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Poneyton Introductory Preeminence - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? It is a smashing one off guide for discovering how to master the piano without the headache. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my partner got great success with it.
WatchMojo didn’t mention “The Mission” when talking about Morricone.
agreed
I was exactly about to say that
How ignorant do you have to be to put Ennio Morricone on 10th? HOW?
Billy Bob not #1
Billy Bob I love him, and is my second favorite, but Williams has that #1 spot

That's nothing infront of The Dark Knight
@@YugantSamal Nah bro.
TDK is a better movie for sure.
But for soundtracks it is Just good.
Elfman's 89 Batman theme is a masterpiece and infront of Spiderman.
Ennio Morricone is sooo good. He deserved a higher place imo
Joe Hisaishi! Where is he?! Listen to the OST of Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa, etc...
Totally agree! I figured he would at least be an honorable mention...
Exactly what I was thinking!
WHO? not really Hollywood films are they? :P
Although I didn't really like his Totoro score, Spirited Away is one of the best scores ever written and may even be in my Top 5 of all time

I love how the least debated or argued on this list is John Williams, the BOSS
Exactly. The man remains a legend.
The 🐐
My favorite!!!
John Williams is underestimated Star Wars , Harry Potter , and Jurassic park and many others are the greatest
That is because anyone who doesn't think Williams is a clear GOAT for this topic is just stupid.
Ohhh WatchMojo. Ennio Morricone only 10th and Hans Zimmer only 4th. Not to mention that you got Morricone's song title wrong.
You never cease to set new low standards! You are something else guys.
I'm baffled at their stupidity. If you watch anime just check out their top 10 series, you will throw up
Sanjay G Lol. Gee, I don't want to, thanks. It happened to check their One Piece video, and I almost threw up. I am trying to avoid watching their videos because they are absolutely worthless, so I don't want to give them any more views. The only reason I am watching some of their music ones, is because I am trying to discover songs and artists. And something that I forgot... Where is Thomas Bergersen? He makes music by himself too, except from Two Steps From Hell, and it is better than anyone on this list except perhaps from Hans Zimmer. The guys don't have a clue, really.
+George Kousias just to make you want to throw up more.. In their top 10 anime of ALL TIME list they put dragon ball z at number 3...
The pain was real
+Sanjay G Dragonball Z at 3 is way too high.
Hans, while talented, does not belong in the top 5 here.
The music at 1:50 isn't composed by Morricone, it's "The Aquarium", the 7th movement from Camille Saint-Saëns' "The Carnival of the Animals".
My thoughts exactly. What a huge mistake.
Watchmojo thinks to know everything but this list sucks (Just like his top 10 composers, movie sountracks and classical music pieces). The composers are all good but in the wrong order:
1: John Williams
2: Hans Zimmer
3: Danny Elfman
4: Ennio Morricone
5: James Horner
6: Alan Silvestri
7: Howard Shore
8: Bernhard Hermann
9: Jerry Goldsmith
10: There are so much other good composers, i can't chose
For me instead of Bernhard or Danny... Basil Poledouris...RIP
Don't forget Max Steiner, Miklós Rózsa an Erich Korngold. They were very great as well R.i.P.
Thank you
I know that when the video came out, he wasn't so famous yet, but today Michael Giacchino should be more than just an honorable mention.
Agreed
You're god damn right John Williams is number 1.
no so far far away.
Monzoon Castamere What the fuck is that suppose to mean?
Ms. Service i think it was a star wars reference genius
Ms. Service
It's referencing Star Wars, in that long wordy prolouge. If you read it the beginning says in a galaxy not so far far away
"Can't let you leave without mentioning Star Wars and Indiana Jones" What?! What about Superman, that's one of his best known works
Ennio Morricone is way too low on the list
Fuck this list,Morricone is a top 5 composer.
Sai Teja ecstacy of gold is one of the best scores of all time hands down
You can hardly argue with Williams on the top, but in my wiew Morricone could have been there as well.
@@socratesxo Absolutely. Williams is rightfully at number 1, but Morricone deserved the second spot.
agree i think he deserves number 3 after John williams being #1 and Hans Zimmer #2
Clearly John Williams deserves the first place he's the ultimate composer.His music is epic,iconic and full of adventure.
Its boring industrial music. Morricone was miles ahead.
What’s the song at 1:47?
@@hungrymikepencetd5686 Most of the classic movies wouldn’t be the same without him. Whether you’re a fan of him or not. He’s no doubt an important composer.
@@pawnhearts8785 True. Williams was good. But Morricone is just a Titan noone can reach.
@@hungrymikepencetd5686 Star Wars is the most memorable soundtrack ever.
So Williams deserve num1.
1. Ennio Morricone ( Ecstasy of Gold )
2. John Williams ( star wars theme)
3. James Horner/ Thomos Newmann
4. Hans Zimmer ( Intersstellar is God work)
5. Howard Shore
6. Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross
7. Jerry Goldsmith / Brad Fiedal
8. James Newton Howard
9. Alaxandre Desplate / Steve jablonsky
10. Danny Elfman / Alan sylvestre
Um. The clip of Ennio Morricone you play from Days Of Heaven is actually Aqaurium by Saint-Saens. Embarassing.
Yes.
My thoughts exactly...
Can they please fix this. It's baffling. Wow.
kon sumer You know what's also plain bullshit being spat out, your comment. We have a team of 100+ people creating 150 lists featuring 10 entries each, so covering 1500 entries per month, using probably 5,000+ sequences of media. A freaking mistake here or there will happen.
Signed
Mr X
WatchMojo.com This is why I love you. :)
I kinda think Hans should be 2. The Interstellar score is what made it so good
+CalebTheGaming
Agreed, so was his work on Man of Steel. I listen to that track every day.
working
Listen to EVERYTHING by Hans Zimmer, he will be 1st on the list lol
+CalebTheGaming About the only thing that made it good
*****
I've already heard time. I can play it on piano lol. I do like the interstellar soundtrack the best but he has other great songs too
My ALL TIME favorite is truly Hans Zimmer mostly because of the bellowing horns and the thundering drum beats. He really takes the breaths of many who know him.
That’s what the new school of film composers is aspiring to become. Thundering drums and screaming horns. Still, what’s really missing in this new strand of composers is the finesse and elegance of someone like John Williams. He puts the deep knowledge of a classical composer to the service of the music, which is what really made his music stand up through the years till nowadays.
It's very effective because of larger than life swells and effects, but underneath it's simplistic chord progressions and boring melodies. It works and I dont hate it. But dude even needs a team of ghost composers to write that. John Williams writes the scores himself like Brahms would've done.
He can live 3 lifetimes and would still not pass The legend
I really feel like Howard Shore deserves a higher spot. His use of light motifs is nothing short of outstanding.
can't agree more.
those light motifs were just... distinct.
soothing and heavenly would be the words just to start with praising it.
A lot of his LOTR music gives me pure joy I can't describe it, I listen to all LOTR probably atleast 20 times each song
Regardless of position, Shore has the greatest soundtrack of all time in LOTR
How dare they make Michael Giacchino just an honorable mention
I agree. I think his scores have much more diversity than just being underscore.
I was so upset that Michael Giacchino was honorable mention. Talk about pulling feelings from your heart....he knows how to do that!
Henry Mancini won 4 Oscars for composition, and was nominated 18 times..... Pink Panther, Moon River (Breakfast at Tiffany's), Touch of Evil, Victor Victoria......not even honorable mention there, WatchMojo? A few of the guys on this list are pretty forgettable. And yeah, Morricone should have been higher than #10.
Williams is the only one close to being better than Mancini. This shows Mojo is totally ignorant of the history of musical scores. Don't forget the baby elephant walk from Hatari. Yes Morricone should be much higher.
Mancini's omission is surprising. They also missed Max "The Father of Film Music" Steiner, with over 300 film scores, 24 Oscar nominations, and three wins. King Kong? Gone with the Wind? Casablanca? A Summer Place?
Derp how did I forget Mancini, Top 3 should be Williams, Mancini & Herrmann, which also a great law firm.
Same nino rota
Godfather trilogy
Amarcord
8/12
I vitelloni
La strada
The white sheik
La dolce vita

I love Henry Mancini just for composing Breakfast At Tiffany's and Victor Victoria!!!
My Top 10:
1. John Williams
2. Ennio Morricone
3. Hans Zimmer
4. Danny Elfman
5. Bernard Herrman
6. Howard Shore
7. James Horner
8. Alan Silvestri
9. Jerry Goldsmith

Morricone second ? And after Williams ? You made me laugh boy. Morricone is claerly the best
@@simfer_6782 tell us some energetic background theme pls
Silvestri on 8 !? Seriously
When I saw Elfman at number 2, I was like, who could be better than him. Then when I saw number 1 I was like "oh ok, that makes sense"
These comment... Hans zimmer... hans zimmer 1!!.... Probably the only composer they know...
Or just because his scores are the most obvious, blunt and loud. I like his work, but there's almost no suddlety.
Paul Meredith
I agree, although I do like many of his scores, you can tell that many of them are quite similar
Paul Meredith Zimmer tends to repeat himself so much that if I can't sleep I put "Pirates.of the Carribean" in my DVD player and I'm gone in 15 minutes. He has all the subtlety of a train wreck. Gladiator is another good film made boring.
ahabtheplant "He repeats himself" then: "He's not subtle enough". gg mate.
Hit the nail on the head. They probably also don't realize that Hans Zimmer doesn't even write half of the music he's credited for, like POTC.
You didn't even mention that John Williams also wrote the original superman soundtrack as well as all his other greats
I was just gonna say as much. I agree. To NOT at least mention his Superman theme on this video is,.. well,.. without wanting to sound too dramatic, sacrilege.
To be completely honest with you, the Superman soundtrack is recognisable and all... but I don't think it's that good :/
His other work, though, is fantastic, and he totally deserves the first place. Just not for that particular score.
Ian cd I personally think its one of his best. differences of opinions I guess.
John William's Superman score is still the greatest superhero score of all time!!
Well, I honestly think the Dark Knight's score is better, but maybe that's because I prefer the darker, more brooding tone of the movie, and how well the soundtrack reflects that.
Joe Hisaishi should've at least been in the Honorable Mentions imo
I think thomus Newman is really underrated , nobody is talking about him . He gave music for Shawshank , green mile , American Beauty , Nemo , wall e , skyfall , 1917 . He is an 15 times Oscar nominee
Should have been
1. Williams
2. Zimmer
3. Shore
the problem with Shore is, that most of his music outside of Middle Earth is pretty unmemorable
Brabbel93 Yet so many of his tracks from LOTR are memorable. Only Zimmer and Williams has as many.
barcafredde well, I didn't way anything against his middle earth music, read again.
But can you um the music of Se7en or Silence of the Lambs to me?
Brabbel93 No you didnt. But there are more than one memorable track from the LOTR-trilogy. I could hum atleast 5 of them in the blink of an eye.
Compare that to some of the names placed before him on this list, can you hum any of Herrmann's tracks other than Psycho? Can you hum any of Elfmans tracks other than the Batman theme? Both Psycho and Batman have memorable themes, but the themes are the only memorable tracks in these movies..
Thomas Newman has to be on this list! Also Gustavo Santaolalla, John Powell and Alan Menke deserve a spot as well.
And How could you forget Philip Glass.
john powell has produced some of the best scores EVER, definetly deserves a spot
Haha what? Putting morricone tenth is like putting pelé tenth among the best players.
A heresy.
Hans zimmer>danny elfman
Just ask justice league
What the fuck ?? Do you even know Danny Elfman
Nah bro that’s cap have you fucking heard the original Batman music it’s sooo good same with nightmare and corpse bride and way more while Hans only has stupid pirates
James horner > hans Zimmer
@@user-mx6ij9sn9s Alan Silvestri > James Horner
@@cineomaniac3388 horner is greatest for me till date. silvestri is great specially back to the future theme is melodious.
"So, let's see who are the 9 ones below Zimmer"
Oh.
His work on The Lion King (only oscar win), Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean and Inception are his only true masterpieces imo. Not that 4 masterpieces is a small number, but not everything he pumps out is gold
*Howard Shore
metalrr5 Have you not listened to the Interstellar soundtrack?
Just about to say that
When you compose Star Wars, Superman, Harry Potter, Jarassic park, Home alone, Jaws and Indiana Jones, you know you are #1.
allof those films are not even close compared to interstellar,inception dark knight,pirates of the carribean lol. Most of movies u mentioned were watched by teens in 2000' and they wont be watched in future i bet
@milan djukic yeah that's why John Williams won 5 Oscar's lol 🤣
Ennio number 1 without a doubt.
My favorite is Steve Jablonsky.
also
I'm so sad he isn't here
I agree with John Williams being number one, but seriously, no Vangelis? Not even an honorary mention? I'm disappointed.
It might be because that Chariots of Fire theme was played into the ground. Too much of a good thing, maybe.
sometimes I feel like the only person that listens to the Bladrunner score
I loved Vangelis' music for "The Bounty."
Blade Runner Blues is his masterpiece
Hans is only 4? Gosh he deserves so much more.
Obi-Wan Cannoli yup
Agreed!
Amrit Pannu actually no
you are rigth
Problem is, Zimmer is a fraud. He has ghostwriters that compose most of his scores.
Ennio Morricone is a GENIUS. He has even inspired the ones came after him like Hans Zimmer (as Zimmer himself said). He made the history of music, not only cinema scores, he should be FIRST.
Yes! Hes a genius. But americans hate it when they arent Nr. 1. Cant stand the fact Italians and Germans are always better than them in anything :). And that says Mike Pence, lol
In my opinion Zimmer is up there on first together with Williams.
But Morricone should be way higher. His music was essential in the reinvention of the Western genre by Sergio Leone.
I love Hans Zimmer - Inception, Gladiator and Interstellar are three of the finest soundtracks ever made.
But no. John Williams is untouchable in the number one slot. His music is Iconic.
Just because a composers music is more famous doesn't make it better.
I know right? I'll never forget hearing Johann Johannson's amazing music in Prisoners for the first time and how nobody I talked to about the film had even heard of him or the film.
Madgegames I think he's nominated for this year's Academy Awards if I recall correctly.
Nick D'Amato That's great news. Shame he wasn't nominated for Prisoners though.
Totally agree with you!! I find the music of Star Wars and Indiana Jones annoying. The Lion King soundtrack is probably the best I've ever heard.
Madgegames
wish i could give you more thumbs up
johannson is such an amazing composer!
fordlandia thrills me even after hearing it the 100´s time
YEAH, JOHN WILLIAMS!I think Zimmer should be on number 2, but I don't care because Williams is 1 :D.
Hans Zimmer has always been the master of making 'epic' scores but Williams has made masterpieces. They are both the greatest in my view. no one better than the other
Chase Kaplan agreed, but John has epic pieces as well like Jurassic park and star wars
John Williams has defined popular western culture like few other human beings. His scores are too many and too iconic. Even Zimmer fans should acknowledge it.
PS: Zimmer is great and my number 2.
Chase Kaplan they need to team up.
@@MimMdance zimmer is much better
How can you talk about Bernard Hermann and not mentioning "Taxi driver'?
His best work imo. Bit of bias though as Taxi Driver is in my top 3 films
4:39 A music that pierce through your heart
Howard Shore. The LoTR score is my all time favorite.
I thought Shore's work in Silence Of The Lambs was very good.
Yes but you cant compare him to someone who wrote like every iconic score ever. Star wara, Harry pottér, jaws, jurassic park, indi jones. Those are some giant names there
Lukania13 are you kidding me of course you can
The binary sunset theme in star wars is on par if not better, than anything in LOTR
Facts!!
Michael Giacchino should have been in the top 10 rather than just be an honorable mention. He did the music for Incredibles, Mission Impossible III, Alias, Ratatouille, Star Trek (2009), Up, LOST, Super 8, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, John Carter, Alcatraz, Fringe, Star Trek Into Darkness, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Tomorrowland, Inside Out, Jurassic World, and Zootopia. He is also doing music for Star Trek Beyond, Doctor Strange, War of the Planet of the Apes, and Inceredibles 2.
Sadly underrated.
Alexandre Desplat got snubbed too. He's beyond good.
Despite an honorable mention, I agree with you. In ten years the list would be different and he would (will) be there.
I feel like I’m the only one who loves his work on Speed Racer.
One of my favorite composers.
steve jablonsky, lorne balfe and john debney
Top 3
3. Howard Shore
2. Hans Zimmer
1. John Williams (duh)
John Williams is the most obvious choice on these lists, best ever.
Joe Hisaishi should've been on the list.
bias americans
Great and influential contemporary composer. Specialized in video game music though. Has he written a lot for film?
Joe Hisaishi is the composer of almost every Studio Ghibli film.
Definetely!
How the HELL did Joe Hisaishi NOT make this list? He's magnificent! I listen to his material daily as background music to pretty much everything I do at home. My kids can sing Sanpo from Totoro and they don't even know how to speak Japanese, that's how frequently it's played lol.
Thank God Alan Silverstri is coming back for Avengers Infinity War
The Avengers Age of Ultron theme wasn't bad Brian Tyler and Danny Elfman did a good job they respected it but put their own stamp on it at the same time plus it was reused in the movie
Funny because Composed Even Endgame. And his Score was the Best Part of the Whole Movie.
He did amazing in Endgame

My favourites: 1 Hans Zimmer
2 ennio morricone
3 Ramin djwadi
4 John Williams
5 James horner
6 Alan silvestri
Morricone #1 absolutely
Alexandre Desplat? That man is a genius and his scores are poetic and brilliant !
Totally agree! His work on Harry Potter was amazing!
Jack Mason His score for Godzilla not so much
Though his work on stuff like Fantastic Mr.Fox, Moonrise Kingdom or Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium are just beautiful
So you decided to leave out Alan Menken? What's wrong with you WM?!?! He's one of the most acclaimed composers, and has won many awards, 42 in total, including Oscars, Golden Globes, Grammys, and more!
I know that he is not that famous among the ones on the list but he could have easily got an honorable mention.
~~~~~~
Notable works: The Little Mermaid, Beauty and a The Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Tangled, Enchanted, and many TV series.
I don't get why he isn't famous. He is the only composer who ever won acadamy awards for best sound track AND best song two years in a row. With eight academy awards the only composer who has more is Alfred Newman (who wasn't mentioned either).
Actually 3 years in a row.
They're is so underrated
+Gillian Orley
You're totally wrong, Alan Menken was the composer, Howard Ashman* was the lyricist.
Alan mgm To be precise, Howard Ashman was the lyricist until he unfortunately died way too young after Beauty and the Beast was completed. Alan Menken has since then worked with different songwriters. But half of his awards he won working with Ashman. They were a great team.
I know, Ashman and Menken created some of the most memorable and beautiful disney songs in history. Menken also worked with Stephen Swartz, Tim Rice and more.
John Williams
Hans Zimmer
James Newton Howard
Jerry Goldsmith
James Dooley
Harry Gregson-Williams
callofdutyguy9 Harry Gregson Williams DEFINED the Metal Gear series
The piece that you showcase for Days of Heaven was not composed by Morricone, but by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns, from his Carnival of the Animals suite, Aquarium movement. Because it's the opening score of the movie, everyone mistakenly assumes it to be written by Morricone.
Fuck that. Morricone should've been in the Top 3.
Plot Twist: Thomas Newman is actually, the best
James Newton Howard, Jerry Goldsmith, Hans Zimmer, and Danny Elfman are the best composers, I love listening to their scores
And John Williams
I love Bernard Herman
Where the hell was John Barry!!!
Most versatile by a mile and how can you not acknowledge his work on the James Bond theme? His arrangement of that little squiggle of music his EPIC!
Absolutely, a travesty
Decent list, but it leans a little too heavily on recent composers (all WatchMojo lists seem to cater a little young at the expense of historical consensus, which is the closest thing we can get to objectivity in these fields). For instance, Danny Elfman at #2, but no Max Steiner?
Still, they got the correct #1, and in the end, that's what matters. Also happy that Hermann was so high up.
Reading all these comments right now, I find it strange that hardly anyone has mentioned Hermann...
Perhaps it has something to do that a current audience is doing the voting - so of course, it's a bit biased towards "younger" composers.
Nardo Vogt Question: Are WatchMojo top 10s now entirely based on votes? From my memory, the earlier videos used to be somewhat based on voting, but largely curated by the editors/employees of WatchMojo. If they are now compiled entirely by online voting, it makes me wonder why they even employ anyone anymore, other than to put together the UA-cam clipshows. I hope there is some effort that goes into making these lists other than online voting, since--you are right--the WatchMojo audience is largely young and inexperienced when it comes to the subjects of the lists.
Not saying that's a bad thing, since I'm also quite young and inexperienced with MOST things. But I don't think I should be the final authority for any sort of accurate list either.
epon1357 I know, crazy, right? I was happy at least he was on the WatchMojo list. I was a little worried he might not show up at all.
As far as I know, it is still a mixture of voting and curation, as you said. I think that the voting is doing a big part - the curation is basically a safety net.
1. John Williams
2. Joe Hisaishi
3. Michael Giacchino
Can’t believe they didn’t mention unbreakable with James Newton Howard
There seems to be too many good names to mention all the good ones.
RIP James Horner
He will be missed
And Jerry Goldsmith
And Ennio Morricone
If John Williams isn't #1...
Good. You made it this time, WatchMojo...
However, I'm disappointed in the lack of a mention of Trent Reznor
Good4josh his music fits the movies, but it's not often very "Musical" per-say. I like trent's work with everything he does, and I do consider him one of the biggest engineers and composer currently active, but in an "All time" list he does't quite make it for me.
Tarks Gaming you sir, are completely twisted
I live Zimmer, Shore, and even a fair few more recent composers such as Michael Gacciano, Alan Silvestri etc, but John Williams is undoubtably the greatest of them all.. he has such a style that transforms any movie into domething EVEN better!
I absolutely adore how they reveal #1. It's just too perfect
8:36 Only two Oscar nominations? Blasphemy!
rip James Horner & Jerry Goldsmith.
hans zimmer 4 wtf? should have been 2
5. Howard Shore.
I would put Howard Shore at 3rd place tho
Indont see Isaichi Inbudokan in that list
No but here is my ranking :
1) John Williams.
2) A.R. Rahman (Indian music composer).
3) Ilaiyaraaja (Indian music composer).
Hans is soo overrated he co-wrote most of his scores anyway
Yesss Michael Giacchino! Finally someone who mentions him.
My List
1. Enio Morricone
2. John Williams
3. Danny Elfman
4. Bernard Hermann
5. Hans Zimmer
6. Alan Silvestri
7. Howard Shore
8. James Horner
9. James Newton Howard
10. John Goldsmith
I knew it! John Williams is the best! I also love Danny Elfman
WHAT THE HELL ENNIO IS TEN
I don't get why people even consider Zimmer for a first place, like sure he is agreat composer but he's been around as a great name only recently, 2000 and forward. John Williams has been around the block since you can remember and the thing about him is you know all his theme songs by heart and not just one or two he has done it so well so many times he is without a doubt a music composer genius! They didn0t show Schindler's List theme but you can check it out too, it's great! Even Spielberg said his movies wouldn't be as great and succeful as they're now without John's music.
"Even Spielberg said his movies wouldn't be as great and succeful as they're now without John's Music."
Well, I'm pretty sure Nolan would say the same about Zimmer. That being said, Zimmer is not quite in the same league as Williams, though he's certainly one of the greats.
Because Nolan Fanboys
In my opinion it's a matter of generation... but it's wierd to see that even happens on soundtrack score composers, I thought that was something of rock, pop songs stuff :| , though Hans Zimmer is great! over 9000 in creation aspects! but.... well, Williams is Williams and has been made epic EPIC... doesn't matter the passing decades, Williams molded the Epic Film Scores...
Well even only being a great name only recently that hasn't stopped him being much, much better than Williams. If not first, he should easily been 2nd at least, 4th is just a piss take.
Agreed John Williams music is iconic. That said Hans Zimmer is rapidly approaching that level as well. Love both of them!
Rest in Peace Mr. Horner, you're beautiful work and legacy will live on until the end of time, thank you so much for envoking emotions out of us we havn't felt in years, the world shall feel it's loss during the releases of Avatars 2-5;( Hats off for the don Mr. James Horner everyone!
I think Newman should've been in the main list
Bruhhh I was lookin for this comment for sooooo longggg
seriously? Ennio Morricone only 10th?
Totally agree, he's brilliant
jasmina1986 maybe they didn't listen "Love theme" from "Cinema Paradiso" /watch?v=uq3-s9G25q8
or other musics from "The Mission" /watch?v=XoQ2yiS1lsY... I was going to forget a "small" detail of Ennio... He conducts every music he composed!
agree. He is a god!
Davide Montagnana He is so fucking good! I always have The Man with No Name tracks on repeat.
this is what the Top Three should have been, 3. Ennio Morricone 2. Hans Zimmer 1. John Williams
Zimmer #2, John Williams #1
C'mon, Zimmer deserved #2. Maybe he wasn't as iconic as Hermann or Elfmann, but in terms of raw quality, he is one of, if not the best working today. His music has so many layers, and is so unique. I'm not jabbing at most composers, but it's really all just strings and drums today, yet Zimmer is actually unique.
Marky Baloogah I completely agree with you. Zimmer and Williams are the best!
Everybody is sad they put ennio as 10 but first thing they put Zimmer in 4th and secondly they mention Zimmer without mentioning his most iconic score the interstellar
For all those who are comparing Zimmer and Williams,
The main difference is that Zimmer lives in this era.
Williams's scores are more like meledious to listen while Zimmer's scores are the best when watched in movies, they literally define the scene and are enough to get goosebumps.
I personally like Zimmer more but both are legendary in their own way
Main difference is that Zimmer often make noise instead of music to accommodate his movie.
No John Murphy? C'mon, the mans a genius. 'In The House, In A Heartbeat' from 28 Days Later is one of the most easily recognisable themes ever, and the work on Sunshine and Kick-Ass backs that up. Also, Zimmer should have been number 2, and Clint Mansell should have been higher purely for the theme in Requiem For A Dream.
John Murphy should have been top 5
I like John Murphy, Sunshine is one of my favourite soundtracks of all time however he tends to rehash his music a lot which is probably why he isn't on the list
That's the problem with Mansell. To be a Top10 composer you should do better than writing one cool melody. I listened to Requiem for a Dream and the theme is the only good thing about the score. ANd even then, the 6 minutes Remix for the LOTR trailers are better.
***** 28 weeks later as well, though you could argue that it's fine as it's a sequel.
John Murphy and Clint Mansell automatically popped up in my head. I'm glad someone else agrees. They're my two favorites.
I'm sorry, but it is a crime to not include John Barry on this list. Is winning 5 oscars not good enough for you, WatchMojo? So much more talented than some of the composers on this list who write such monotonous soundtracks (e.g. Zimmer).
I think only 10 - 20 year olds were voting on this list.
I would agree about Zimmer, but each artist does what the director needs or wants, as I say, listen to Kung Fu Panda 2, extremely different.
Alan Menken has won 8 Oscars being the composer with most oscars and didn't even got an honorable mention.
People always complain on WM's videos.... They have a suggestion page people, you can vote and change in their lists before they put them on UA-cam. It's not like they are "all knowing" or anything. Of course they miss some things and make mistakes.
Cry about it
Hans Zimmer is my all time favourite
My top 10
1. Thomas Newman (1917, Shawshank Redemption, Skyfall, American Beauty, Nemo)
2. Hans Zimmer (Pirates Of The Caribbean, Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk)
3. John Williams (Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Home Alone)
4. Ennio Morricone (The Exorcist ||, The Good, The Bad And The Ugly, The Hateful Eight, Mission To Mars)
5. John Barry (His classic James Bond soundtracks)
6. Justin Hurwitz (First Man, La La Land)
7. David Arnold (90s and 00s James Bond scores)
8. Alan Sylvestri (Cast Away, The Walk, Back To The Future)
9. James Horner (Titanic)
10. Jerry Goldsmith (Poltergeist)
I would have put Philip Glass at least on the honorable mention list.
You forgot to mention Schindler's List for John Williams.
Giaccino will be #2 in a few years, just you wait
He is my favorite after Williams and Horner
@@geetadhumane5793 yeah . I love him too. My god. Up and inside out.
Many of John Williams' scores rank among those of classical composers. My personal favorite is Morricone, because of his playful and adventuresome experiments, but Williams is something else again. Incredible and dynamic tense pacing, and sweeping audio landscapes.
