The Land Before Time was good enough to be well into this top 10.
molesticles Definitely!
Should've been number 1.
PharaohJill
exactly...
The Land Before Time is classic
As was Apollo 13
James Horner was truly a musical genius and the Titanic soundtrack has some of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard!! I will truly miss James Horner and I regularly listen to the Titanic soundtrack!!
James horner is a legend
He will always be number 2 thought, HZ 😢
Titanic will always be my favorite of his, but Avatar, Field of Dreams, The Land Before Time, and The Amazing Spider-Man were beautiful and epic, too.
oh yes The amazing spider man was a good musical experience
@@vishnushetty7358 for real, people sleep on TASM's score its really good
Where is legends of the fall? This is absolutely ridiculous that it’s not on the top 10
@@cinema4life416 That's one I haven't yet heard. I plan to listen to all of James Horner's scores soon, but I'm currently trying to do that with John Williams.
Braveheart is by far my favorite Horner score.
The soundtrack of Avatar was my favorite. It was different from "typical" movie soundtracks, yet very beautifully written and memorable and it suited the movie perfectly.
Servals To me Avatar always sounded like an ethnic version of Titanic's score, at least when you compare the main themes. I guess that worked for me because my 2nd favorite James Horner soundtrack is from _Avatar_ lol
Gundamn Mechahunter The score to Avatar has recycled elements from the score of Apocalypto. If you compare the chanting of Eywa with the opening of Apocalypto with track is From the Forest and the ending To the Forest... it sounds exactly the same with minor modifications.
@@JorgechorcxPappy Horner recycles himself a lot but so do most composers. Horner at least gave it an interesting ethnic flair with the vocals and some instrumentation.
@@FranticAnimations yes I agree that James Horner did a great job in making Avatar a more friendly and magical world where as in Apolalipto its more dark but what you say it is the same for both. I encourage you hear the theme from Apocalipto, "From the Forest" then tell me your opinion on the matter.
Next Avatar movies will never be that good as original without James Horner's music.
We all fans agree....
I don't know what I think about the other Avatar movies. I haven't seen them, so no opinion yet. I do miss James Horner, but we can't change the past, only the future.
And if James cameron won't take the directing chair will dive on a bin just like saw
@Nickodzilla 1954 cool
Also.. writing the navy's musical history befor hand helps. The final score for avatar was a bombastic western style representation of the original score written. So I've heard. This change was because the unreleased version was too alien to convey the story to the audiences.
i mean as soon as Land Before Time came up for honorable mention I nearly started crying, but hey, I guess it doesn't deserve a spot on the list to some people....
(Mother, wake up D':....)
Same here man.
Ben Lash So true ;_;
Yup. Still gets me too
Ben Lash Dear, sweet, Littlefoot, do you remember the way to the Great Valley? T_______T
Littlefoot's mother: Dear, sweet, Littlefoot, do you remember the way to the Great Valley?
Littlefoot: I guess so. But why do I have to know if you're going to be with me?
Littlefoot's mother: I'll be with you. Even if you can't see me.
Littlefoot: What do you mean I can't see you? I can always see you.
4:23 sounds like Horner's Titanic work.

You're welcome...
Thank you
thank you for doing this! I wish they’d included it in the description or pinned your comment !
Thanks
How could you not include the beautiful score for The Mask of Zorro?
"Legends of the fall" is missing!!
Ninaofthe90s Completely agree
Yes ! Casper to !
No Legends and no Willow make me seriously not take this list seriously, also Glory...10?... 10?
It's his greatest score.
IT MUST BE THE NUMBER ONE!!!
I'm glad Cocoon made this list. It's one of his most overlooked and underrated scores. I was an 80's kid and Cocoon always stood out to me even when I didn't have any understanding of film. It was really because of the music. Horner's range and expressiveness is a delightful match for the unusual mix of drama, comedy, science fiction, and fantasy. Along with Flight of the Navigator (which also took place in Florida and involved benevolent aliens on majestic ships) they are permanent guilty pleasures of mine.
Movies not mentioned that James Horner scored.
Battle Beyond the Stars (his first)
Krull
Star Trek III the Search for Spock
Batteries Not Included
Willow
An American Tail Fievel Goes West
Bicentennial Man
The Amazing Spider-Man
RIP James Horner. Your music will live on.
Martin Guzman Mighty Joe Young, We're Back A Dinosaur's Story, Once Upon a Forest, The Pagemaster, Casper, The Grinch, Balto, Jumanji
***** those were great too.
***** Humanoids from the Deep, Wolfen. James Horner also did the scores to these scary movies.
Martin Guzman Don't forget Balto and Patriot Games...
Search for Spock had a lot of rehashes of Wrath Of Khan
We knew from the beginning that _Titanic_ would be #1, but my favorite of James Horner's work has always been _The Land Before Time._ That one has a lot more feels to it imo
Gundamn Mechahunter - I listened to the Land Before Time soundtrack at midnight 2000. I felt like it best captured the big moment.
Gundamn Mechahunter I love Land Before Time, especially the Great Valley music. But the opening credits music to An American Tail always makes me tear up. Beautiful.
teheyepatch I was pleasantly surprised to see An American Tail. I would also liked to have seen Land Before Time.
An americanTail Fievel Goes West and the Mighty joe Young
Avatar has a VERY underrated soundtrack.
Field of Dreams should have made the list. A beautiful movie with an equally beautiful soundtrack.
John S Underrated soundtrack? Yes. Underrated movie? Hell no. The movie was mediocre but visually, it was breathtaking.
John S overrated
Mark Rezk ...they never said the film was underrated.
John S Field of Dreams is on the list tho.....
feekybro It got an Honourable mention.
I swear, that man's made me cry so many times, I've lost count. He will be missed.
I can't believe "Legends of the Fall" wasn't even an honourable mention....it's the most beautiful score ever.
Yes! I am shocked that no one mentioned it. It is hauntingly beautiful
I totally agree, it's in my top 5 from James Horner, for sure!

Can u do top 10 John William scores
WatchMojo.com top 10 hans zimmer scores :D
WatchMojo.com top 10 John Williams scores
Dung Ngoc
I think they did this, because James Horner just passed away.
WatchMojo.com not surprised that Clear and Present Danger and Troy were overlooked, but still a bit disappointed.
I might have cried a bit when I heard he'd passed away so tragically, I'll miss you James!
I knew Titanic would be number one, and I'm so okay with that seeing as it's my favorite movie AND favorite soundtrack. Though I'm sad Land Before Time only got and honorable mention. Balto, Troy or Willow wasn't mentioned at all :(
The flute part in the Titanic's score always gets me. Damn it!
The Amazing Spider-Man score really touched my heart 😌❤️
Rest in Peace Mr.Horner
The films Legends of the Fall and Enemy at the Gates are two superb James Horner scores on equal footing as Avatar and Braveheart. So is A Beautiful Mind.
Horner is my favorite composer of all time. I listen to his scores almost daily. Legends of the Fall is my all-time fave as it is so sweeping and soothing.
Ludlows
Gone but not forgotten. He was a brilliant composer who will be forever missed.
RIP James Horner.
I can't choose between Avatar and Titanic as my favorite score.
Both theme songs from those films are really good. I think Horner will always be in our hearts and our hearts will always go on. And his soul is with Eywa.
I hope you understood the reference
Andres Velez That’s your opinion. There both good to me.
Why not both?!
What about braveheart
Braveheart and Avatar's score is epic but Titanic is the masterpiece.
forget everything else as soon as i heard The Land Before Time i teared up.
Question: Without James Horner would ANY of these movies be half as good?
You can say that for many great movies out there that have great composers behind it.
Exactly the score is kinda what makes a film. Take straight outta compton for example if there was no music in the eazy-e dope house scene it wouldn't have been that good. It would've just been some regular shit like watching cops lol
I really doubt it
TITANIC TITANIC TITANIC TITANIC TITANIC TITANIC!! Omg love that movie so much! RIP James, you have brought great things to the world❤️
Horner was brilliant. I love how he was able to compose music so beautiful while having such a wonderful synergy with the characters in the movies.
I think The Land Before Time should have made it onto the list proper and not just the honorable mentions. I'm glad The Rocketeer and An American Tail made it in, though.
***** So agreed on Land Before Time - that soundtrack has resonated with me the most over the years. I'm glad American Tail is on it though.
Casper should have been included. Titanic is #1 for sure!!! So Epic!!
***** no its not
***** How is it overrated??? Im guessing you find it overrated because of how incredibly popular it is.
***** I would have loved a movie to come out that would have focused more on the ship and the historical parts than a romeo and juliet storyline. So i can kinda understand somewhat. Most people like it because of leonardo. I love it because im a history nerd. The titanic is one of my most favorite subjects in history. I bet most girls that saw it back in 97', still don't acknowledge the history of the titanic today.
***** Thats why I like it. I like how james cameron used fictional characters to portray such a historical event which is why i cannot claim it to be overrated.
***** Like how they claimed to be in love after only 3 days haha! Thats more infatuation. Lol
One of my favorite James Horner scores is Where are you Christmas by Faith Hill
DO A HANS ZIMMER VERSION
Egan Yi Lion King is one of my favorites.
The dark knight
Egan Yi you mean Hans Zimmer...(and about 323948293 other people that work on the score that you never hear about cause Hans usually does like half the score) :)
Egan Yi Time from Inception!
I love some of hans zimmers scores but theyre far too similar to put into a list
One of my all time favorite movie scores, and I think it's what got me loving them from then on out is "heritage of the wolf" from Balto. That combined with the scene where he meets his mother, I find it so chilling. Idk why.
How is Land Before Time only an honorable mention?!
Thought so That Titanic was going to be first
He was a phenomenal, amazing composer. James Horner was my #1 inspiration as a pianist myself. I even performed "My Heart Will Go On" at my school's talent show. He had a a God-given gift and when I found out he died, I cried for days. But then I realized he isn't gone; his soul and music lives on and we still have the privilege of listening to it. He left a very rare mark on the world. RIP James Horner
The Mask of Zorro? The Legend of Zorro???
Tony Stark I know! Easily the best imo
***** ikr!
It's great, but it also rips off Miklos Rozsa's "EL CID" theme.
I'm surprised that Glory was only number 10. I personally think it was James Hornets best work and one of the greatest film scores of all-time.
Steve Shaha 100% agree!
Steve Shaha Whatever you do, don't listen to "Glory" and "Avatar"'s themes back-to-back. Both are gorgeous in their own rights, but they sound a bit too remarkably similar.
Jacob Wheeler That doesn't surprise me. They have the same composer and are scores more than 20 years apart...it happens.
Legends of the Fall- The Ludlows :'(
6:39 I really enjoyed Avatar. THERE I said it.
James Horner's score though for Titanic was brilliant.
James Horner is my favorite composer of all time, and you guys totally missed out on Legends of the Fall and Willow.
Left some of his best work out. Krull, Willow, Legends of the Fall.
5 second clip of Land Before Time's music and I'm a puddle on the floor. What is it about that damn theme.
Oh my god, I know. T__T
It broke my heart to hear of his passing. His music is so stirring. R.I.P.
Awesome video guys. I enjoyed listening to these classic cinema scores.
I would have liked to have seen “Something Wicked This Way Comes”. Different then many of his other scores, Horner’s score with the opening scene at the the beginning of that movie will always be my favorite.
No Amazing Spider-Man? That score was amazing!!
Exactly.
zDuo GamingHD AGREED BRO I WAS WAITING FOR YOUNG PETER
There were tears watching though this whole thing. My favorite musical artist. Own 26 of his soundtracks. Was out driving to Aliens score earlier. Nothing gets me more pumped than his 'Futile Escape' track. Though not listed, think my all time favorite work of his is Journey of Natty Gann. Was so disappointed growing up an official soundtrack was never originally released on the film's launch and added resentment towards Disney for that. But thankfully few years ago a beautiful limited edition was released. Also the score to 'Legends of the fall' is one of his most emotional pieces. My musical tastes were always 'Beatles, Horner or GTFO'. Nobody moved me more emotionally than you did Horner. Thank you for making up the soundtrack to my life.
The Perfect Storm has an amazing soundtrack...I love this guy's music and I'm saddened that he will never be able to write for us and inspire us again. However, he has left us so many emotions in his scores that will inspire us for many years to come.
What about Willow!? That's amazing score!
Why is Field of Dreams only in the honorable mentions? That score gets me every time!
Kinda silly film, but I absolutely loved Casper's (1995) soundtrack, specially "One last wish", so soothing and simple at the same time.
Only the best; RIP Mr. James Horner,
The Willow soundtrack! One of the best soundtracks of any film. The opening song after the old lady rescues the baby sends chills down my spine EVERY time!
I knew Titanic will be #1!!! My Heart Will Go On bring tears to my eyes ;(
I think Land before Time should have been in the top ten! That main theme with Littlefoots Flashbacks always makes me cry
Great job, WatchMojo. Now we need lists for Williams, Goldsmith, Zimmer, Elfman and Silvestri!
my original introduction and for myself one of his best is battle beyond the stars, you can hear so much of his later music in this sound track
my nanny was his assistant, she said in his studio he had hundreds of tiny wind chimes all around the room to inspire him
what a bummer they forgot one of my favorites called One last wish from the movie Casper
Excellent list! Very Informative Super like!!!!
Titanic: A building panic. That song sends me chill.
The Braveheart score gives me chills. My all time favorite movie and score!
Yes and yes. 👍
The lack of recognition for The Mask of Zorro's music in the video, comments, and poll is absolutely disappointing. To anyone who's a fan of film scores, you owe it yourself to listen to that soundtrack. Or hell, just pay attention to it while watching the movie. IMO, it's easily one of Horner's top three best compositions along w/ Titanic and Braveheart.
I really like the soundtrack to The Mask & Legend of Zorro. It really had that flamenco influence which made it a very unique addition to his long and impression catalogue of music.
I love the "Tanya" theme from Enemy at the Gates movie. It's so underrated. Beautiful theme. And of course "The Portrait" theme from Titanic. Heart melting.
The Mask Of Zorro should be on the three first places. Maybe even the first one. I mean... Did anyone ever watch this movie ?
C Winston It is a great score but not sure in the top 3. You are certainly entitled to your opinion and I love the music too but it wasn't really top 3 in my opinion.
Yes the movie and score are amazing
Ewan R I agree with you Zorro's Theme is amazing
Next....TOP 10 HANS ZIMMER SCORES!!
yassss
TROY was one of his biggest moments. Receiving a rejected soundtrack another composer did and repairing & recomposing it in under 2 weeks. Genious.
I adore the score to Braveheart, I could listen to it all day. It's breath taking
Completely agree with #1, but "The Land Before Time" should have been on this list.
Baffled Brandon - same dude same. The Land Before Time was my childhood (even though I wasn't alive when it first aired, being born in 1993) but regardless, it will always have a special place in my heart.
What about The Mask of Zorro? That had an amazing soundtrack!
Isn't there anyone here that realises that this FRICKIN LEGEND OF A MAN has passed away for almost 2 years now!!!!
RIP James Horner! You will always be remembered!
Nice Top 10 ! I like the soundtrack from "Willow", too. And "Casper". And "Krull" ! And "Batteries not included", that everybody seems to have forgotten ;)
KRULL!!! Willow, The Pagemaster, Patriot Games, Troy, Jumanji, The Mask of Zorro, The Pelican Brief, Brainstorm, Casper, Mighty Joe Young etc....
No way!!!! Braveheart is the 1st!!!!!
It's neck and neck. Both braveheart and titanic have majestic scores. I thought going in that Braveheart was a lock for no.1 but I think in hindsight it was simply a better movie. Better acting, better script. Titanic's score was it's most impressive thing and that's saying something given the special effects.
agreed... plus The Devils Own is just as good... definitely should have been on here
Ach, he always has such an adventurous feel to his tracks. The Perfect Storm gives me so much nostalgia!
Even a 7 years old me already loved titanic score immediately since the opening scene, without knowing who is James Horner, how big that movie was, without knowing the movie even had a song. So, agree about the number 1.
avatar is my favourite one
Ok ,now we need John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Randy Endelman, Howard shore, James Newton Howard, Steve Jablonski and Danni Elfman 😄
Dont forget Thomas Newman, Alan Silvestri and Alexandre Desplat :)))
Keserü Tímea My bad!😉
Seriously The Land Before Time has one of the best scores ever composed, how is it only an honorable mention! Still do a Top 10 Danny Elfman scores (Batman would probably be #1 though).
I think the one film score of his career that will always be overlooked is the score for An American Tail: Fievel Goes West. The score for that film is in a way a tribute to the western musicals of the 1950s and the 1960s. It is a lot of fun and upbeat. When I think of James Horner I think of that score.
No Legends of the Fall....music in that movie is like another character!!
Legends of the Fall should have been on the list. That score is one of his best
"The Pagemaster" had a beautiful score by Horner as well. :-)
I add Legends of the Fall ost, which is one of greatest ost of all times!
avatar on nr.5? u fokin wot. this music is getting me every time so freakin hard ...
Going to miss his emotionally moving soundtracks
He was such a great composer. Titanic, Glory, Braveheart, and Balto are among my favorite film scores! I totally agree with Titanic at #1! Beautiful score!
Truly loved his work on Star Trek 2 the entire soundtrack of that movie is just beautifully put together from start to finish.
god his are so beautiful and magical *sobs* i can't believe he's dead *sobs*
i hope you guys like it because i do *sobs*
Glory was the best. I could really care less about Titanic and Avatar to me felt just off
The Rocketeer is my favourite. Horner is amazing, this man will be missed. I love listening to film music when I'm working, his work is definitely among my favourites. Always so different yet so remarkably Horner. RIP.
3:35 to 3:45 made me cry like the movie. Horner and Crowe are just excellent
Can't believe you forgot the timeless soundtracks for *Troy* .
R.I.P. James Horner! You will be sorely missed :-(
How about "TOP 10 JERRY GOLDSMITH SCORES"!!!!
Aw come on WatchMojo...Glory, Feivel singing Somewhere Out There, Kirk and Spock in Star Trek II, William Wallace in Braveheart, A Land Before Time, Field of Dreams...I wasn't prepared for all the feels when I clicked this video.
I love watching this every Birthday every year.
What about Top 10 Hans Zimmer Scores?
R.I.P James Horner
James Horner made a brilliant genius mind of musical and brilliant soundtrack movies. I remembered his work on The Pagemaster, The Spiderwick Chronicles, Jumanji, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and more. He also composed Once Upon A Forest. Of course, he’s the best man of all beloved movies. Like Titanic, Avatar, The Land Before Time, An American Tail, Braveheart, Aliens, etc.
This is one of those times the video needed to be top 25. The honorable mentions should have been on the list. And Legends of the Fall got shafted.
