100% agree. It was Dune p1 that absolutely sucked me into the Dune universe. I knew this was a GREAT film when I watched it, and I never looked at my phone or a clock once during the whole two hours and 35 minutes...great, enthralling storytelling.
Great video! I'm mystified at commenters who dismiss DUNE PART 1 as boring; they obviously didn't see the same movie I did. When I look at it, I see a world so visually and thematically fleshed out to the point where it feels real. If movie goers of the early 20th century, ignorant of CGI technology, were able to see this movie-- many would probably be convinced Arrakis and sandworms actually existed. The characters are also as complex as the worlds of DUNE and I'm here for it.
I love them both but they serve different needs. I adore origin stories so I am biased. I love the family feel to Dune 1, and it hurts to see the Atreides split apart, but also the loss of Duncan, Paul’s big brother he never had. Dune 2 is Paul succumbing to his Harkkonen side, Jessica becoming a BG arch manipulator and Chani losing her sweet lover to a vengeful jihadist. Loss of innocence, consequences, tragedies when all choices are bad ones. The two films complement each other.
exactly! you can't have one film without the other since the magic of the worldbuilding and the characters is lost if you skip part one
I look forward to "Citizen Kane, the forgotten masterpiece"
I’m with you, Deuterium. Dune 1 is a masterpiece as is Dune 2. I’ve watched both MANY times, & the artistic intricacies pull me in every time. Your analysis of the Dune 1 characters is my take also. “Stunning” panorama shots & effective visuals rather than words is so true. Anyone who hasn’t seen Dune 1 needs to catch up on this rich beginning. Stilgar is a favorite of mine & Duncan Idaho’s devotional bravery is impressive! Thanks for sharing your Dune 1 highlights ❤
Dune part 1 is LEAPS AND BOUNDS better than part 2.
The pacing of Dune part 1 is a bit better imo. I also liked the ominous air and creeping dread throughout the film. It starts off within the first few minutes of with the exchange between the Herald of the Change and Duke Leto. The gradual destruction of House Astreides was done masterfully. Dune part 1 is so rewatch able because of it.
The world building, setting, pacing, and antagonists were definitely better in Part 1.
Cool video! Love it) Thank U so much
glad you enjoyed it
Love this video. Sums up why I love the chess game and politics of pt1 so much. If you wanna see more good Oscar roles I’d recommend Drive and Annihilation. 5:30
Everyone is raving about Part 2, and I agree it's a monumental film. But I like part 1 a little more. Maybe I just really like the slow, ponderous, unfolding mood for much of it. It's such a different kind of movie, though; it's hard to compare them. How do you compare the first half of a story to the second? Part 1 has a lot of world-building, which is relatively easy (especially if you're Denis), sowing the seeds for the rest of the story. Part 2, to me, is full of flaws, though I'm OK with a lot of them because it was such a difficult film to make. Every plot thread had to wrap up neatly, while still leaving room for Part 3. And adapting Dune Messiah is going to make adapting Dune look like a cakewalk!
Part 1 is under appreciated? Honey, both films are revered.
How is Dune underappreciated, at all?
Underappreciated ?
Not sure where you’ve been, but the Dune films is not underappreciated,
Steven Spielberg told Denis V that his Dune films are the most brilliant Sci-fi movies he has ever seen. There are interviews all over UA-cam with great Directors talking with DenisV about his extraordinary films and he is preparing a third Dune film.
