Basically John Williams and Hans Zimmer are genius's.
exactly
+Gianni Vecc Yes
What about Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross? They're underrated
Alex Styles I didn't say they weren't good, I actually enjoyed the Social Network, and thought the soundtrack added quite a bit to it.
John Williams is the GOD of movie Themes. so doo one of his themes is Number 1.
the 28 days / weeks later theme still gives me chills
+Jake Krynock (rioPLAYBOY) this and Sunshine's Adagio ...
+Jake Krynock (rioPLAYBOY) I was 10 when I watched it for the first time. I couldnt sleep for days.
+Jake Krynock (rioPLAYBOY)
You mean thrills? :D
I got both films and never dared to watch them alone .. lol
thats my favorite
Last of the Mohicans anyone?
Yes!!! They could've chosen some more unique soundtracks! Some of them sound very similar!
Yep they should have include this
They left out The Lord of the Rings franchise soundtrack. 😱
It was a mere an Honorable Mention in the first video so I expected it to properly feature here, yet it was completely left out....despite having won more Oscars than Titanic.
Look to their first video
War Hero when you don't read the full comment
But magnificent 7...
Nailoth but it was just in the f*cking honorable mentions
It makes me so angry they are constantly skipping it....
LucienSabre The Lord of the Rings is undoubtedly one of the best soundtracks ever, but it is also a bit new. This list is for "iconic" soundtracks, and I'm sure many could listen to Store's score without thinking of the trilogy. To be fair, many of the movie scores on this list weren't iconic either.
John Williams is the person with the second most Academy Award nominations with 49 nominations and 5 wins. The person with the most Academy Award nominations is Walt Disney with 59 nominations and 26 wins
John Williams is the GOD of movie Themes. so doo one of his themes is Number 1.
+Marcos Acosta in this generation its Hans Zimmer
+James Moyner Check out Yuki Kajiura. While John and Hans are the Gods of the West, she's the Goddess of the Far East, though she deals more with anime and video games in my time of listening to her.
Two other rising stars you should check out are John Dreamer and Florian Bur.
Then let's say it 'The person with the most nominations and awards alive'.
+Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn . Great name by the way.
Anyway. John Powell as well.
Interstellar better be on here
+Cillian O Leary SPOILER:::: It's not. :(
Not really "iconic"
+DunnYT its more iconic then most scores in this list... the organ theme is beautiful and unforgetable after you see the film, also it escalated the whole movie to another level
+Cillian O Leary It was a great composition and score, but not nearly as iconic or famous as the ones on this list.
+Yesqwo Do you know what iconic means? What you are describing does not make a track iconic. It simply makes it a good track.
The Halloween score is more iconic than most of the ones on the list. Just listening at those chords and one already knows where is it from.
I second that
mariannebossu I've never seen the movies but it gave me chills
I agree. I have it as my ringtone and every time somebody hears it in public they react immediately lol
mariannebossu you put it and is back to front
A direct rip off of tubular bells

don't forget John Williams' Jaws 1&2; Jerry Goldsmith's Alien, Legend and Total Recall & Ennio Morricone's The Thing
no way morricone is just an honorable mention. he's up there with williams and zimmer
Arshen Kasper Keyword: "favorite". Ennio is not one of mine. At least not over the ten I listed before him.
Why does no one mention Henry Mancini (Pink Panther, Moon River, Romeo and Juliet)
TheTacticalMelon He ranks pretty high on this person's list: www.imdb.com/list/ls005359850/

Good video I did think a few should be on there but where was The Lord of the Rings that also has a pretty good Musical theme?☺
My favorites that come to mind right now are Requiem For A Dream, Schindler's List, Inception, The Social Network, Empire Strikes Back, Moon and 28 Days Later
oh and Fellowship of the Ring
+Brohan Solo I enjoy that score a lot but not as much as these
www.watchmojo.com/suggest/Top+10+Sci-Fi+Movie+Musical+Themes
+Brannon H requiem for a dream is one of my favorite compositions of all time
The 2002 Spiderman theme should have been on here by Danny Elfman.
What about Requiem for a Dream?
Gwendoline Elise that’s on the first list
Brett no it isnt

Who wrote this! This was excellent, & expertly spoken as well. I love when you guys list music even though it's subjective. It is intriguing to discover some of the choices. Keep up the great work, no wonder you all are the best.
I believe the 28 Days Later song you used is by Godspeed You Black Emperor! and was not composed for the film but was licensed.
+SweetZombiJesus Yes! the second song is John Murphy (and fantastic), but the first song is from Godspeed You! Black Emperor, from the album "f# a# (infinity)"
You missed Star Wars starship troopers 1 Lord of the rings the Urukhai theme Jurassic park The predator theme and loads more
Star Wars was number one in the first list.
both inception's and schindler's list themes make me cry... this is the power of music, it might be very different but it just hits you right in the feels
So Lord of the Rings and the Lion King aren't on either list?
Ok the titanic has very good soundtrack but how the heck is it better than Lord of the Rings! I don't frikking understand why it's not on either list! It makes me so angry!
+HMG Person i needed a trigger warning
guys, relax. The lord of the rings theme is on the first list of film scores
and i still dont know how in hell saw soundtrack is not mentined also
no fair!
god, I could send hans zimmer a clip of me farting and he'd turn it into something intensely beautiful
LDR preach it
Where is LOTR?
First video
But it is only in honorable mentions there. It is way good enough to be on a "real" place in the second video and not just a damn mention.
+Valandíl N. Yeh that's the problem with these "Another" lists. Like what the fuck does that even mean? "Another top 10"? So is it really rankings 20-11, seeing as there is already a top 10 list, or should some of these be included in the first list, therefore making both of them incorrect?
If it is rankings 20-11, then where are the honorable mentions from the original top 10 list? None of it makes any sense.
***** uh yes. ;)
The Fountain!
+VLSkate YES!
Requiem for a Dream?
Missing Lux Aeterna from Requiem for a Dream from both videos!
Where the fuck is Requiem for a Dream?
Fullmetal Heart yeah, it's the best score out of all films, but noone cares.
Star wars or Lord of the rings?
Lord of the Rings
Lord of the rings
LoTR
star wars
LotR
rip james horner, you will never be forgotten and will always live on in your wonderful music
Guys, you mixed up two different scores. 1:49 Piano notes?
"East Hastings" by Godspeed you! Black emperor is playing on the background (the score was only in the first movie), whereas the narrator obviously means "In a heartbeat" by John Murphy (which you can hear at 2:19; the score was in both films).
I love them both, though.
Requiem for a Dream? :O
Inception is the bomb!
Time - Hans Zimmer. I listen to it almost daily, wonderful piece
first time i started to appreciate movie soundtrack...
+Ahmad K. K. it sounds
Hans Zimmer all the way...The last samurai, Black hawk down, Batman, Inception and so on and so on....He should be #1..!
Don’t forget about “Crimson Tide”. Has to be one of my favorites
28 days later music was actually written and performed by the band "good speed you, black emperor" awesome band with amazing songs that last for 20 minutes or more. Dead flag blues is definitely worth a listen
Yep, Watchmojo fucked it up again.
The track that is playing in the "28 Days Later" clip is "East Hastings" by Canadian instrumental post-rockers Godspeed You! Black Emperor. They are from Montreal like you Watchmojo! How can you mix this up??
The track that plays at the "28 Weeks Later" clip is another song, and THAT is by John Murphy. It is called "In the House, In A Heartbeat".
2 different songs guys.
This. Oh, the embarrassment.
I was thinking, the one they used wasn't In The House In A Heartbeat. stupid mojo....
+ekswfrenwn7 Yeah, I was just gonna comment that. GY!BE is so underrated, I think that their music should be used more often in films. The new film "Youth" has Storm from Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven on it, and it's beautiful.
Requiem for a dream?
My all time favorite is the Lux Aeterna by Clint Mansell from Requiem for a Dream.
Me too
This is a great selection! Almost all of them are already in my repertoire and I listen to them often. I like the analysis too.
The music from 28 Days Later that we can hear at the beginning of the movie isn't by John Murphy but Godspeed You! Black Emperor ("East Hatings"). John Murphy did create the iconic guitar score for the film ("In the House, in a Heartbeat") but it isn't the piece we hear at the very beginning in the top. Just saying for those who might be looking for the song.
I wrote that in the fisrt video and I am writting it again. How can you not include requiem for a dream film score? It's one of the most iconic soundtracks ever, it's been used everywhere, even in trailes of other films, like LOTR. It's a melody that every living person has heard at least once in his lifetime. That's what iconic means not only how epic it is. For instance, forrest gump's soundtrack is amazing but NOT iconic. Schidler's list is probably the best soundtrack that has ever been written but it's not more iconic than requiem for a dream, since it's mostly used in anti-war and holocaust videos or events. Requiem for a dream has been used for everything, horror, adventure, action, drama, tribute videos, documentaries, public events. And of course it's not only that but also the fact that it is really famous, way more than the movie it was written for. Most of the scores you included are less know than their movies. When it comes to iconic I think the fisrt that come in mind are star wars, superman, jurassic park, jaws and of course requiem for a dream!!!
I know!
I know right? It's like they were making a list of (example) top 10 chips flavors and left out plain flavor. Makes no sense.
I just listened to it and I watch a shit ton of movies and I can honestly say I had never heard it before. It is not iconic in the least to me.
I'm almost 30 and Hedwig's theme still gives me chills!
"Titanic" and "Pirates of the Caribbean" are my VERY favorites. They both have a great tune
1:19-2:15 ummmm this was composed by GodSpeed You Black Emperor from the album F# A# Infinity, the track is called East Hasting
The piece of music in the 28 days later soundtrack you played is Godspeed You! Black Emperor
My top five composers!
Howard Shore.
John Williams.
Alexander Desplat.
Harry Gregson Williams.
Hans Zimmer.
My top 10 favorites:
1. John Williams [Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Superman, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter]
2. Danny Elfman [Batman, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands]
3. Hans Zimmer [Crimson Tide, The Rock (main theme), Pirates of the Caribbean]
4. James Horner [Titanic, Braveheart, Zorro]
5. Alan Silvestri [Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, Predator]
6. David Arnold [Stargate, Independence Day, Tomorrow Never Dies]
7. Jerry Goldsmith [Star Trek, Gremlins, Air Force One]
8. Basil Poledouris [Conan, RoboCop, The Hunt for Red October]
9. Alan Menken [The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin]
10. Howard Shore [Middle-earth franchise]
Honorable mentions: Ennio Morricone [The Good, the Bad and the Ugly], Bill Conti [Rocky], Randy Edelman [DragonHeart], Harold Faltermeyer [Top Gun], Vangelis [Chariots of Fire]
+jp3813 that's a good list! I love Braveheart and Forrest Gump. And Edward scissor hands! So good!
+jp3813 oh and Top Gun, and Alan Menken!
Completely correct
Jolin Steen where is Steve Jablonsky?
I love the fact that u guys mentioned the social network in honorable mentions..... I know it's not iconic as such but I love it soooo much
I'm playing the solo of Schindler's list with a friend in school for band,(we are playing a adaption for a band) and this piece moved me to tears the first time I heard it.
The 2 greatest duos
John and Stephen
Hans and Christopher
XD WatchMojo. You had to use a Hindi-dubbed version of that ET clip at 12:11
What about Lord of the Rings? The Fellowship theme/Concerning Hobbits? It's a score that gives you hope in a time of darkness.
Truly powerful music, i had chills with this video.
i think these themes should have been on these list... Transformers (2007) - arrive to earth, The Island theme (2005), Passion of the Christ theme (2004), The Chronicles of Narnia theme (2005), Solomon Kane theme (2010), Fright night theme (1985), Avatar theme (2009), Armageddon theme (1998), The Rock theme (1996), Con Air theme (1997), Lock up (1989), John Rambo (2008).
I definetly agree about the chronicles of narnia!
Paulo Henrique the transformers arrive to earth is good but the same composer made gears of war 2’s hope runs deep which I feel is a much better theme
John Williams, Hans Zimmer and James Horner.
Don't forget Alan Silvestri!
+HeroesUnited Howard Shore? his lotr work alone makes him a legend.
+HeroesUnited Johnny Greenwood
+HeroesUnited Ennio Moricone
that piece that you took for 28 days later... the one that plays whilst the main character is walking through empty London...
That's actually not composed for a movie. The piece was written by a band, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and it's called East Hastings, although they only used a smaller part of it in the movie, Sad Mafioso, and shortened it down even more.
I Still remember going to universal studios when I was 7, it was honestly great. I would love to go again, the E.T. score made me remember that!
Where THE FUCK is interstellar. Do you guys hate it? It is incredible.
16. im just someone that understands film.
mad.
+Mark “Instafamous” B It's good but it certainly isn't "incredible". In particular compared to these opuses.
without the score, the movie would not have been as good. It was one of the best i've heard in my life. At least deserved an honorable mention
+Mark “Instafamous” B Lol what is there to understand?
At least one Jerry Goldsmith masterpiece on the list, but there could have been more (Rambo, Basic Instinct, Alien, Legend etc.)
+Bernhard Eder Chinatown, Rudy, Patton, Mulan, The Ghost and the Darkness, The Omen, even Under Fire (Quentin Tarantino used the "Nicaragua" cue from that movie in Django Unchained).
Poltergeist too
I think the score for National Treasure should have been on the list. At the very list an honorable mention. Whether you loved or hated the movie, the score was so adventurous and triumphant!
RIP James Horner
But the 28 days later is actually a song by Godspeed You! Black Emperor, so...
It was made by for the movie in mind
Doubt it. The Album F#A#infinity was released on august 1997. The movie is from 2002.
Even more, the song wasn't included in the soundtrack album of the movie the next year, because they only had the rights to use the song on the film.
+Víctor Ignacio Escobedo Castro I looked it up and your right. I was thinking of the first 28 movie
how can you talk about 28 days later without even mentioning godspeed you! black emperor
Sunshine should have been more than an honorable mention. Adagio in D Minor always gives me chills.
Would love to see a list based on the ENTIRE score, not just one of the songs, the other video is the same way
Two of my favorites are "The Lion King" and "Interstellar"
I think Interstellar should take part in the list too
the main schindler's list theme always brings a tear to my eye
wow, that terminator 2 just killed me. brought back memories !
Lawrence of Arabia
CONAN THE BARBARIAN BY THE GREAT BASIL POLEDOURIS !!!!Come on !!! Can't you feel your heart accelerating on Riders of Doom !!!
+Arnaud Lécuyer Completely Agree.
+messedupdude11 And let´s not forget Robocop and Hunt for the Red October
Schindler's list reminds me of this so I'm not sure if it's an original but the music to "Enemy at the Gates". That music is so iconic to me and, until this video, nothing reminded me of it. Given my military career, this military movie brings so much heart and emotion to a seemingly silent aspect of warfare and the music does a great job of complimenting it.
Narnia? Way underrastimated, I think. Also, a video with the top 10 soundtracks from tv series (GoT, Outlander, etc) would be AWESOME :)
The Rock is the best theme song ever tbh
Braveheart anyone?
Lol, the song they highlight for 28 Days Later isn't even John Murphy's piece. The 28 Weeks Later track is, but the one from 28 Days Later is a song called East Hastings by the post-rock band Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Get your facts right WatchMojo. A great song, and fits the movie perfectly, but not an original score for the film.
The It Follows score is haunting as well
No wonder Rumplestiltskin was a coward before becoming the Dark One! He ran away from zombies abandoning his family!
What about Interstellar?
Hey isn't the 28 days later one (not the 28 Weeks Later scene in this video, which is In the House, in a Heartbeat) by Godspeed You! Black Emperor? It's titled East Hastings.
The theatrical score for the newer Chronicles of Narnia films. Makes me feel like a kid again. Honestly, I'll never stop searching for Narnia.
I watched the first top 10 instrumental film score and then this one. At first i was annoyed that lord of the rings score was not in the first list (putted only as honorable mention) but then i realised it really isnt as recognizable the others. But then i saw this list and i believe you should have included lotr if not in the first in the secont list.
I mean really, is 28 days/weeks and Forrest Gump scores (no matter how good they are) more iconic than any part from lotr trilogy ost? And i think lord of the rings soundtrack is voted as the best soundtrack of all times. Also you dont have it even in your top 10 movie soundtrack. Come on guys, really??
+Panos lord of the rings sound track was lame. 28 days later should have been higher on the list if anything. but i'll give you that i'd trade forrest gump or titanic or T2 for lord of the rings on this list. and fuck E.T. I guess i'm just a little mad you have the audacity to say the 28 days later soundtrack doesn't belong on a list like this.
Braveheart!!
28 Days/Weeks score will always be my favorite. It's incredible.
That particular track from 28 Days Later is Godspeed You Black Emperor, the final cut you played was part of the John Murphy composition.
You could almost do this by decade since scores have gone through so many changes. The modern scores vs. the pre-90s scores are very different. Here are some more iconic themes you missed:
The Untouchables
Fire Walk with Me
Requiem for a Dream
The Pink Panther
Wrath of Kahn
The Black Hole
American Beauty
Dr. Zhvago
Last of the Mohicans
Bram Stoker's Dracula
There you go, your next top 10 list with some honorable mentions to Enter the Dragon, Gladiator, Last Temptation of Christ, Fight Club, Edward Scissorhands and Psycho.
7:00 what do you mean by that?o.O
+Born Again
What do you mean?
........you heard nothing..............
+and2good2 what do you mean what do I mean?
+Born Again Talking about the movie Terminator 2 "Judgment Day"
The Last of the Mohicans and Lord of the Rings should be at least honourable mentions.
I'd like to recall that the music from Inception's trailer (including the iconic horns) was composed by Zack Hemsey (also known for "The Way"), who I think complemented brilliantely Zimmer's score and also helped to make this soundtrack so famous...
the song from 28 days later is from godspeed you black emperor (east hasting) and was aggressively cut... from john murphy it was perfect
I feel that Harry Potter should be higher up
Yes!
ikr...it`s official...watch mojo is in love with Christopher Nolan
movies...they put the Harry Potter score lower than the Inception
score!!!...I know some people must think the movies may not be as good...everybodys got their
own opinion about that...but the score of Harry Potter is freakin more
memorable and good than the one of Inception
Hedwig's theme is way more iconic than inception I loved dream is collapsing and time .....but Hedwig's theme is like among greats like star wars, indiana jones and godfather..... people will always remember it and associate Harry Potter with it
Weirdo Reborn That's John Williams for you. That's why he's a much better composer than Hans Zimmer. I quote Seth McFarlane when he spoke at Mr Williams' AFI Life Achievement Award acceptance ceremony when I say, "Music in film is in danger. Some composers can't read music and have no business writing for a full orchestra. Others create their scores by recording each section individually. This is why no one else can give us anything like what John has been giving us for decade after decade.
Harry Potter should have been in the first video!! Not the second one!! It is so fucking amazing that once you hear it, you by default start singing it!!!!
The best ever movie soundtrack is Lux Aeterna. No need to debate this, it's the best e
How is Lux Aeterna By Clint Mansell not on here?!
Really glad to see Sunshine got an honorable mention!
the magnificent seven??
+olin blake Good one!
messedupdude11 thanks man that theme always gets me riled up
that's why its a classic
+olin blake The Magnificent Seven composed by Elmer Bernstein who also composed To Kill A Mockingbird, The Great Escape, Ghostbusters and The Ten Commandments. Those are iconic scores as they go and he's not even represented on both lists.
ChuckRazor its insane man
So... Lord of the Rings isn't even an honorable mention? Like... seriously, now?
it was in the first video
+Šimon Pinkas it was a honourable mention in the first video
Oh sorry, then, my bad :)
I can't find the first video. It doesn't come up when I tried to find it under the title that she says at the start.
Peter Atkinson top 10 movie instrumentals
I'm glad to finally see "He's a Pirate" on this list!
A while ago, I was on a pirate ship ride at an amusement park. Before the ride started, there was some halfheartedly pirate-like music playing, and I told my friend that they should have "pirated" the music from PotC. And then, as the ride started, they actually DID play the theme and I screamed just because of it XD
Up was one of the best score. it brought me to tears
Pirates of the Caribbean should be 1#. Hans Zimmer is genius.
there should be 2001 Space Odyssey somewhere...
Indeed, but the music for 2001 was not an original soundtrack. Strauss, Ligeti,...
That's not a film score - it used pre-existing classical music.
Ten Commandments. by Elmer Bernstein who also did The Magnificent Seven. The Great Escape and To Kill a Mockingbird. John Barry who scored not only Goldfinger, and On Her Majesty's Secret Service and most of the Bond series. He also did Zulu and Somewhere in Time. James Horner also did Deep Impact, Field of Dreams and The Perfect Storm. Maurice Jarre did Lawrence of Arabia. Ghost, and Jacobs Ladder. Jerry Goldsmith did The Blue Max, the original Enterprise theme, The Omen. Alan Silvestri did Contact and The Abyss.
I love how in the above video when Elliot says "Not so high not so high"..You can hear another voice saying the line in some foreign language
Probably this was noticed before by someone but John Murphy, awesome musician, didn't compose the theme where Cillian Murphy walks in a devastated London. It's from Goodspeed You! Blackemperor.
Gotta Say, Han Zimmer's work is my absolute favorite! The Dark Knight and Interstellar scores were gorgeous as well!
Nice list, and fitting after the first. If you do a third, I'd like to see Daft Punk's Tron: Legacy up there - that was cool.
That first theme you guys used in "28 Days Later" is not by John Murphy, but the band Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
For me, one of the best Instrumental film scores is the one for the Finnish film, Musta Jää (Black Ice in English), composed by Eicca Topinnen.
Inception is one of my all time favorites!
Of course I love anything by Hans Zimmer.
The 28 Days Later song played in the video was from "East Hastings" by Godspeed You! Black Emperor though...
Dude like movies 1-4 of PotC are masterpieces, especially 2&3 with the organ
