Guardians of the galaxy Soundtrack is one massive example of resurgence of so many songs
The entire soundtrack was brilliantly incorporated into the film.
It's STILL my go-to album when I want to listen to some music.
and Ready player one too !!!
Ya, they cheated on that one also.
Ally McBeal like..
Justin Fabricius I love that soundtrack
I think a better title for this video would be "Top 10 Songs that RETURNED to popularity Through Their Use in Movies".
Agreed, Mojo top-10 lists are consistently bogus. I've yet to find a very good one, its like they are synthesizing pop culture history for millennials.
I don't think millennials like these lists too much either.
If that would be the title then:
No.1: Shook Ones- NBA 2K18
Other than Tiny Dancer, which was NOT a hit by an stretch, I agree. It's like they had a perfect example in Tiny Dancer, then forced another 9 songs in to make a Top 10 List.
Then it would be Afrikaa Bambaa
Bohemian Rhapsody was, is and will still be famous even without Wayne’s World.
They are Americans. Noone outside the US ever heard of "Wayne`s World", but they can`t comprehend that.
I’d rather have Wayne’s world than that overrated shit not their best song nor the best song of the genre nor the era
@@archiebonnell6794 To say something is overrated you need to have ability and right to rate things. You don`t.
Lol obviously
True, but it went back on the charts on Top 40 radio when that movie was in theaters. That is a huge thing, and doesn't happen often.
"A Thousand Miles" from White Chicks when they are riding in the car!
Oh yeah, that too, don’t forget Crazy in Love in the same movie (and yes... I’ve Age 5 for a kiddie contemporary reference... 😠).
@@kieranstark7213 Crazy in Love was already played non stop back then. The video was like number 1 forever. It wouldn't apply in my opinion.
Jerrell Simmons Good point.
I can't hear that song without thinking about Terry Crews singing.
Definitely!
I was seriously expecting "All Star" from Shrek to be the first...
Me too
Shrek had the best soundtrack
I need a hero scene was amazing till more so well written and made
Amber L. Barracuda by heart should have been on here too.
That was actually part of Mistery Men OST, one year earlier, so, that song was already famous before Shrek.
It was a hit when released
I’m sorry but every time I listen to “I’m gonna be (1000 miles)” I can only think of Marshall in HIMYM, even though it’s a tv show and not a movie
Nope. Benny and Joon for sure.
Jorge me too🤣
Marshall do be Vibin tho 😳
True
Same
I was surprised that "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong didn't
@@brentlofgren-noaafederal7041- I was thinking of Twelve Monkeys. I think Bruce Willis sing that song in that Movie.
The first song I thought of didn't even make the honorables: "My Sharona" from Reality Bites.
“Dreams” Fleetwood Mac- Doggface
This track was a UK single around the time the movie was being made in 1984. Living in the US though, I figured it was recorded for the movie anyways. Doesn't count
Can’t apply. That song was written specifically for the movie at the request of John Hughes.
A lot of songs especially Time dancer were always popular! So was alot of the music , Bob Seager come on ! The Doors, please !
Some trivia, U2 were supposed to perform the song but declined. Simple Minds grabbed it and the rest is history.
@@rufusdisturbed wrong. was not U2 . It was supposed to be Billy Idol, and he declined .
Maybe Americans never heard of Bohemian Rhapsody before Wayne's World, here in Europe it's different
Watch the whole video. This is a list of songs that gained a resurgence based on their being included in a movie. It doesn't matter whether or not they were popular or obscure before their being included in these soundtracks.
To be fair, it does seem like that positioning was based on the US market. Bohemian Rhapsody was rereleased in the UK following Freddie Mercury's death in November 1991, reached number 1 (for the second time) in December 1991 and stayed there until mid-January 1992. Hard to say it was in need of much resurgence by the time Wayne's World was released three weeks later.
That said, the impact of Wayne's World on the song's standing in US popular culture can't be understated and is definitely a big part of its success in North America.
Tam theman Nah dude I'm one of the other 62 genders. (lo)
+dj memestar your no funny mate
Tam theman Common Relax it was a joke man. how was your day?
I was thinking Tom Cruise would get another one for Top Gun's "You've Lost That Loving Feeling". Also, another nod for the Rightous Brothers.
Johnny B Goode from Back to the Future should pop up on here.
I think "Johnny B. Goode" should have at least gotten Honorable mention for the movie "Back to the Future"
so true !
Jeff V. Yeah
Quite a few songs that either deserved honorable mention or to be among the top ten. What I understood was these movies either made the song popular or led to a revival in their popularity. Well, what about Roy Orbison's "Pretty Woman"? That was a big hit for Orbison in the '60s and I recall it being all over the place when the movie came out in the '90s. And I also thought about the Temptations "My Girl", again when that movie came out that song saw a lot of play time. "Forrest Gump" would be a great one to find a lot of songs off of.
@@richardgreenleaf3259 - After reading your post and thinking about the other movies you mentioned, I realized that you are right. I guess I'm just biased towards Back to the Future, because it's one of my favorite movies. Thanks for the reply.
Nothing wrong with that, it is a good movie. Might point out "Back to the Future" also included "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" by Fess Parker, the Four Aces cover of "Mr. Sandman", and "Earth Angel" preformed by the movies fictional Marvin Berry and the Starlights featuring Marty McFly. Though unlike "Johnny B. Goode" none of these really enjoyed any kind of resurgence in popularity. By contrast I thin "Back to the Future II did include Michael Jackson's "Beat It" and Sammy Hagar's "I Can't Drive 55", both of which were out years before the movie was made.
What about "Fortunate Son" by Credence Clearwater and like every Vietnam movie every made
And the tv series "supernatural"
also white rabbit by jefferson airplane
Because it wasn't used when America flew to Vietnam..
I rediscovered Fortunate Son through Die Hard 4
@@BitcoinMotorist I knew of Fortunate Son, but the one that really gets to me is the cover done for Bioshock Infinite. There's no instruments, only vocals in a story that has classism as a major theme. And guess what the song is about?
"Sound of Silence" at the end of The Graduate.
I would include several Simon songs from this movie but they probably all are excluded as having been written FOR the movie.
nurturewarrior49 sound of silence was written years before songs like mrs Robinson were written for the movie
@@nurturewarrior49 April Come She Will was written a year before the movie.
The Sound of Silence was played during the credits of the opening scene.
That song hit number one before The Graduate.
"In Your Eyes" - Peter Gabriel used in "Say Anything"
YES!
Look at all these great, classic rock songs! Not all that techno crap that is being released now
Yes
Totally agree
Do you mean pop and/or dubstep? Because Techno is quite a niche genre.
I agree with buckley
Adam M You're an idiot. Look at his picture.
Hello darkness my old friend....
i've come to watch you pee again
Not so, Chelsea. In fact, none of the S&G songs on the soundtrack were written for the film. The closest to that claim would be "Mrs. Robinson" which was a rewrite of an incomplete song titled "Mrs. Roosevelt." S&G offered this song to director Mike Nichols only after he rejected the two songs that the duo HAD written for the film. Because of this, the song "Mrs. Robinson" was considered ineligible for consideration for an Academy Award. However, the instrumentals on the soundtrack by Dave Grusin were written for the film.
Actually, The Sound of Silence was released on Simon and Garfunkel's debut album, Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M., 3 years before The Graduate was released.
+Van Anderson true
Impressive that you know that...
"In Your Eyes" Peter Gabriel released 19 May 1986. and then 3 years later Say Anything comes out and blows the song up.
"Stand by me", from the movie of the same name. The song was from Ben E. King.
Hey! I said that too. Lol
You could fill this whole list with Tarantino
U dont like Tarantino?
+Jason Stiglitz Hell yeahhh !!!
"It (Bohemian Rhapsody) wouldn't be so popular today without that mid-90s movie"
You're kidding right? Queen is way more famous than this movie!
EDIT: 4 years later and people are still arguing under my comment... Get a life people 🤣
I've never even heard of this movie lol.
um, the members of queen have talked about how that movie made it more popular than ever.
Agreed didn't even remember it was used in this movie. The song itself is legend.
Bohemian rhapsody has gained about 40 million more views on UA-cam (give or take) based solely off of suicide squad movie trailer. Wayne's world had more impact then you'd think
they even make a joke about it in the musical we will rock you about it reaching #1 on rock charts twice. bohemian rhapsody also has the distinction of being the only song in history to be knocked off the number one position by a song that's title was a lyric in the song that it knocked off which was mama mia by Abba
"You Can't Always Get What You Want," "I Heard it Through the Grapevine," and "Joy to the World" in The Big Chill.
I’ll always love you - the bodyguard should definitely have been in the list
That song was huge😍
Yeah, but that version of the song was written for the movie.
WHATT!!?? WHERE'S "ALL STAR" BY SMASH MOUTH!? SHREK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There was only a two-year difference between All Star's release and Shrek's release. All Star was actually already pretty popular and over-played by the radio stations so Shrek didn't really do too much to "revive" it the way these movies did for their songs mentioned here.
All Star by smash mouth i'd say got popular over Mystery Men.
HAIL OGRELORD SHREK
***** *facepalm*
What about when All star was featured in Rat Race?
Blue Swede's Hooked on a Feeling is pretty much my favorite song because of Guardians of the Galaxy. :D
StarGeek But the song was already well known and popular. These were songs that hardly got attention before the movies came out.
I know, it was in the "runner-ups" category in the video... Did you not see it? I was just saying that I was first introduced to the song because of GOTG, it was still relatively popular before hand, but became MUCH more popular after guardians. :D
StarGeek maybe to uncultured pre-teens lmfaooo. Anyone who has been around for more than 15 years has probably heard that song before the movie.
StarGeek All I have for that song is absolute disgust, I hear that song ALL day at high school, and it drives me up the wall.
StarGeek Mine's Come and Get Your Love by Redbone for the revealing title card. First time I seen that wide shot with a small dancing Chris Pratt in the far left corner and then the giant Guardians of the Galaxy title appears... I couldn't believe they actually doing this... and also why was this movie so freakin awesome when I was expecting a train wreck.
Unchained Melody and Ghost helped each other to gain popularity. Neither of them could achieved so high in popularity without each other. The pottery scene with this song showed it was phenomena and irreplaceable.
Unchained Melody was huge in the 60's.
The Whole Soundtrack to Forrest Gump.
yes like the song "Running on empty" by Jackson Browne
One of my favorite soundtracks of all time
Awsome soundtrack
No free bird was already
Agree. I went and bought it as soon as I left the theater.
There is special place in hell for people who stops Bohemian Rhapsody before it finish by itself.
Magnic it pissed me the fuck off when it happened in suicide squad. That was the best thing that got cut out of that movie
yeah because nothing else got cut...giggity.
@King Lurch Oh god... and i hopped at least here i won't run on another idiot.
you could almost say they have.....
a devil put aside for them.....
Lloyds advert
I wouldn't have known "A Thousand Miles" by Vanessa Carlton had it not been for White Chicks lol That piano intro is now always recognizable
The song was extremely popular before it was in the White Chicks. I know because it was my favorite song when it came out. The song was everywhere. Then later on it was in White Chicks. I hated that movie and I hated how they used the song. I think the song kind of became a joke thanks to that movie. Most of these songs were already popular before they were in movies...they should change the title.
ReneeDreams Lol stfu White Chicks was fucking hilarious where's ur life? you probably have zero sense of humour and tbh i didn't know the song until it was used in the movie White Chicks just like alot of other people.
Salma MT Oi, you're critisizing people ok their internet for their opinion and taste in movies and you're saying THEY don't have a life? right, right, ok.
If it was your favorite song, your opinion doesn't count. Your decision is biased coz you listen to it regularly.
This could have easily been a top 100 with SO many songs out there reused for movies that brought life back to them.
I'd have to say that the indisputable champion of a small-time hit song gone insane on film has got to go to "Oh Yeah" by Yellow.
This song was released by the German band on Elektra records in 1985. It went to #51 on the US Billboard 100 and #36 on the US Dance Chart.
The next year it was used in the soundtrack of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and then caught cinematic fire that's still burning to this day. The are 82 Film and TV credits for it on IMDb from 1986 through 2021.
It's also appeared in many TV commercials including a Honda ad with Matthew Broderick that aired during the Superbowl. It even appears in the game Gran Turismo 4.
The band literally gave up music after it appeared in Ferris Bueller and the writer/singer has amassed a 175 million dollars of wealth from starting the sequencer and sayin "Oh Yeah", Can you say Holy O Yeah?!

Great, now "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" is stuck in my head again...
But are you the man who walked a 1,000 Miles and fall down at my Door?
TheBeardedRandy Da-da-lat-da!
Good LOL
But I like that song.
Hated that song from day 1.. I'd likely fast forward through the scene of whatever movie i might find it in.
Twist & shout - Beatles (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off)
Do you love me - contours (dirt dancing)
Stand by me - Ben e. King ( stand by me)
In your eyes - Peter Gabriel (say anything)
I will always love you - Whitney Houston (bodyguard)
Whitney Huston is disqualified because the song was made for the movie
@@blaisemacpherson7637 that song is a cover. Dolly Parton did the original 20 years earlier.
Blaise MacPherson yea where did u even hear that lmao it’s dolly partons song 😑😐
but twist and shout was a huge song before ferris bueller
Especially I will always love you by Dolly Parton. It wasn't even a big country hit when she released it. Whitney shots and scored with it.
Afternoon Delight or whatever it’s called when Anchorman came out.
Big hit in 1976. Big enough to get the band their own network variety show. That’s where David Letterman got his start.
David Letterman? You know, late night talk show host?
@@BillLaBrie lol. Yes I know the talkshow host as most people know him as a talk show host. But the mass amounts of people younger than fucking 44 and 90% of people that have sung that song since anchorman came out only heard it from the movie so miss me with your "let me tell you some useless info that explains the backstory and act like everybody else knew this shit that happened nearly 50 years ago" bullshit. The title says gained popularity through their use in movies and that's exactly what it did. Get fucked
Interview with the vampire : Guns N Roses - Sympathy For The Devil (Rolling Stones cover) :)
Bohemian Rhapsody was already incredibly popular long before Wayne's World even started production
Mmmm was it tho?
Not necessarily, it was one of their biggest flops when first released because it was too long and no one understood what it was about. Not saying it didn't have fans but there were more fans to their other hits as opposed to Bohemian Rhapsody.
I disagree. To fans of Queen it was popular but Queen wasn't mainstream. Once the song was featured in the movie however, EVERYBODY knew it and who sang it
I had a friend didn't even know about queen til Wayne's world
Chun - Li yeah, of course. It’s one of the biggest songs of all time.
Wasn't Bohemian Rhapsody already a smash hit before Wayne's World? I was sure it became an international icon long before. Considering how popular Queen is, it would probably be just as popular today if it wasn't in the movie.
+LoN3wOlF5tudi0s yes but Queen isn't an American band so anything they achieved outside of American music doesn't count. Apparently.
it was rebooted to popularity. just like the new Suicide Squad trailer is doing for it AGAIN. they never said it wasn't popular before.
well, because america doesn't know good music until it's too late ..
*you're
+LoN3wOlF5tudi0s Since it was released in 1975 (nearly two decades before Wayne's World) it wasn't played much except as a golden oldie. So a renewed interest occurred after the movie. It was cooler than ever IMHO.
Donnie Darko is 100% the reason why I first listened to "Mad World", and when I hear it I alwasy think about it.
Unchained Melody is SUCH a great song too.
#1 Should have been Good Bye Horses by Q Lazarus in Silence of the Lambs.
Eyes of the Tiger ...come one guys!!
The sng was dead before its reaparence in Rocky
Cemereff Stream just commenting because that song was number 1 the day I was born 😂
Cemereff Stream the song was made for rocky 3
To be honest.. I heard it in Rocky
It's not eligible. Great song, but it was written for the movie.
"Eye of the Tiger" is a song by American rock band Survivor. It was released as a single from their third album of the same name Eye of the Tiger and was also the theme song for the film Rocky III, which was released a day before the single.
@@lh6361 same! along with come on Eileen in the UK :D
"Singin' in the Rain" - song 1929, movie 1952
"As Time Goes By" - song 1931, movie "Casablanca" 1942
"The Sound of Silence" - song 1964, movie "The Graduate" 1967
Thilo Nagano : the famous now meme "The hills are alive of the sound of music"
sorry, I don't get it
Singin’ in the Rain, scarily reprised in AClockwork Orange which also used the original over the end credits
Interesting, I did not know that Singing in the rain and As time goes by were older songs. Thanks
thats good to know
"You Make My Dreams Come True" by Hall & Oates , in 500 Days of Summer
YES!!
If they included TV- they would have to add- "Carry on My Wayward Son" by Kansas from Supernatural. I think that show really popularized that Song.
Amen!
This song has been popular multiple times... supernatural did not make it popular
If they included tv, I think the top spot would be "At This Moment" after its use on Family Ties!
Literally heard Carry on WAAAAAYYYYY before Supernatural in the game Guitar Hero.
Unless you grew up in the 70s
Hooked On A Feeling should have definitely been top 5 on the list. The damn song re-entered the charts nearly 40 years after it was released thanks to the Guardians Of The Galaxy trailer; let alone again when the movie was released.
I agree.
I too agree
It's only been out for about a year (Gaurdians of the Galaxy) thus the song hasn't had enough time to make its full impact of rejuvenation. Give it a few more years and its position will likely change.
lol bet 90% of the people that watched that movie dont remeber anything about it. Especially including 20 seconds of 1 song.
rub ber the trailer had it
All Star by Smash Mouth from Shrek was the first song that came to my mind
it was used BECAUSE of it's popularity
lmao same here!!!
Rat race did that song before shrek
Yet what movie does everyone pair All Star with? Which of those two movies made it insanely famous and a timeless classic?
THE WORLD IS GONNA ROLL ME
500 miles....I remember dancing to this so many times at party's & it was all over Kavos and Magaluf (back in the day when a 'clubbing' holiday was an essential part of my year), such a feel good!
The End was pretty freaking well known before Apocalypse Now.
Yup not like it came off one of The Doors best selling records
It was a huge Doors number when it first came out.
"Tiny Dancer" would have been a classic with or without that movie. Even more so "Bohemian Rhapsody" . In fact , its inclusion, the car-chorus scene, is the highlight of that film.
Same with The End, and Unchained Melody.
Bohemian Rhapsody was included in Waynes World because it is a classic, that is the whole point of the scene
Mike Myers would never thought that he would later play the guy rejecting the song in a Queen biotopic 24 years later! 😂
What was it??
But you know that's why they wanted him for that humor. Great inside joke
"what you need is a song that teenagers can get in their cars and bang their heads to, and that song is not Bohemian Rhapsody"....clearly an in joke given that's exactly what they do in Waynes World
Elton John must love Tony Danza very much.
"Hold me closer Tony Danza" 😂😂😂😂
When I had FightClub in the DvD Player on Repeat, I would Set the Repeat Loop Point at the End of the Pixies Track in the EndCredits.
"Hold me closer Tony Danza!"
e Chavez Hold me closer tiny Danzig!
580me from the misfits?
Yes! I can’t hear it any other way now! 😂
Stand By Me could at least be as an honorable mention
You're so right.
Good choice.
That should have been on here for sure. And it re-charted because of the movie.
i honestly thought at first it would be number one, but then remembered that the full song was only in the credits, and the melody used throughout the movie.
I was expecting this somewhere on the actual list.
I Say A Little Prayer For You in My Best Friend's Wedding
Best video as for the last months !
But I have to emphasize that all songs were famous before, the movies gave them an extra new juicy life coil, a new boost.
1. Literally every song Tarantino has ever used in a film.
End of list.
Derek Patterson was just thinking that.
Exactly. I tell ya though, for me, just about all those songs in Pulp Fiction I never heard until I watched it for the first time. Now, I instantly think of the movie when one of those songs come on.
I think we all thought the same
JD Bennett This is likely due to your age, though? I’m almost certainly (much : / ) older, so have a different take on it. I don’t mean this as a dis. If you remember when “Tiny Dancer” first came out, you don’t think of it in terms of “Almost Famous.”
@@salicemccool9186 yes but can you counter the argument made in this video? That it didn't chart so well but then gained much more popularity after this film. That was their criteria.
Correct me if I'm wrong, I feel like Don't You Forget About Me from the Breakfast Club should have at least gotten an honorable mention
YES!!
No that song was specifically written for the movie so it doesn't fit the bill
oh shit they "frogot about me"
yes i know its froget about me i have very little matireal to work with here
John McClaine thank you! i wasn't sure!
+Emily no problem. It's an easy mistake
What about Steppenwolf "Born to Be Wild" Easy Rider
That song was written for the movie.
For the record, Tiny dancer was in the movie because it is an icon of its time.
The movie did not make it more popular...if anything, its inclusion added a sense of nostalgia to the movie that made the movie more popular.
very well said. that is completely correct
"Man of constant sorrow" in oh brother where at thou should have been on here
"Hold me closer Tony Danzaaaaa" Love that song
Elsa Falcon lol phoebe!😂
It's Tiny Dancer.
@@mrbyzantine0528 - durrrr....
No it's "Hold me close, young Tony Danzaaaaa" 😂😂 gotta love Pheebs
I’m shocked they didn’t make that reference. That was hilarious, and clearly over the heads of a few of the viewers here 😉
I forgot the proclaimers in benny and joon , i was like 6 when i seen that movie i loved that song. Movies got me into the music i love today. Thanks fof this video it made me remember all my good times as a kid discovering these great songs and the movies that share them.
“Where is my mind?” should’ve been number 1, also cause Fight Club was the best movie of the list
"I Will Always Love You" The Bodyguard. It was originally by Dolly Parton, made popular when sung by Whitney Houston in the movie.
yuyu2007 right, even made the soundtrack the best selling with 17 million copies sold. If that doesn't fit the criteria, hmmm....
Probably missed the cut as Whitney's version was recorded specifically for the movie. Awesome version, but I like Dolly's better still.
I literally thought I was the only person who preferred Dolly's version. I actually loved the whole soundtrack from Best Little Whorehouse. I loved the soundtrack from the Bodyguard as well, own both of them, but I much preferred I have nothing and Run to you to Whitney's version of I will always love you.
What about Don't you Forget About me by Simple Minds in the movie The Breakfast Club ???
That song was written for the movie. It was originally offered to Billy Idol, who I'm sure regrets turning it down to this day.
Would've been smart considering he was at the height of his popularity at the time
Dede Hewson too true if thats the song where they dancing on the wall thing. Lol
Tom P He eventually did his own take on the song.
Dede Hewson great song bro but hey they were bound to miss a few ya know? im sure we can all spout off a dozen just off the top of our heads
'We'll Meet Again' by Vera Lynn during an atomic ending in Dr. Strangelove (Kubrick). Can't think of anything else when I hear that song.
where the fuck is all star from the movie shrek by smash mouth should have been number fucking one
all star through Shrek
no that sing was extremely popular before shrek
+Magic Bagel so were most of the songs in this video
Huge hit single two years before. The other songs that charted before movie release that were on this list were forgotten about (except maybe unchained melody) but still all star topped the billboard pop songs chart (not the Hot 100) in 1999 just two years before Shrek was released
Through Digimon the Movie
littleBadBOBY no that was another song. That's the Impression That I Get by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones (ironic how it was about having an STD)
10." Where is my mind" By Pixies, Fight Club
9."Mad World" By Gary Jules, Donnie Dorko
8."I'm shipping up to bostons" By Dropkick Boston, The Departed
7. "Tiny Dancer" By Elton John, Almost Famous
6. " Old time rock and roll" Bob Seger, Risky Business
5. " The End" By Doors , Apocalypse Now
4. "Misirlou" By Dick Dale, Pulp Fiction
3. "Stuck in the middle with you" By Stealers Wheel, Reservoir Dogs
2. "Unchained Melody" By Righteous Brothers, Ghost
1. "Bohemian Rhapsody" By Queen, Wayne's world
pretty good list, was a little surprised not to see at least an honorable mention for "twist and shout" Ferris Bueller/Beatles .
Wayne's World was probably helped by Bohemian Rhapsody not the other way around.
That doesn't even make sense.
damn right
@@joefiore2190 how
That makes no sense whatsoever lol. Bohemian Rhapsody wasn't featured in any of the promotional material for Wayne's World and was only in the movie for a couple minutes. There's no way. On the other hand, the song climbed the charts after the movie came out, lending credence to the idea that the movie helped introduce the song to younger people and increased its popularity even further.
It wasn't featured in any of the promotional material yet It's one of the most remembered parts of the movie. The resurgence of the song probably has more to do with the death of Freddie Mercury just months before the movie release.
Um... Tiny Dancer WASN'T huge before 2000?!?! Are you high?!?!?!?
Yeah, that one made me scratch my head as well.
Pretty much all of these songs were hits before they were in movies. This is really just a list of good songs in popular movies.
Um... statistically it wasn't huge before 2000. It went to 41 in the US charts and wasn't released as a single in the UK. It too a long time to be fully appreciated
Not really. Tiny Dancer wasn't one of Elton John biggest hits until years after it's release.
Theresa Ivy Tiny Dancer was an FM album rock favorite in the seventies. It was probably best considered a favorite deep album cut and well known by Elton John fans.
Hooked on a Feeling was DEFINITELY first revitalized by Reservoir Dogs too; I was in college then and suddenly everyone loved it
Not even gonna mention "I Like to Move It Move It?"
I never hear "Stuck in the middle with you" without picturing that scene.
E1evenChar1ie reservoir dogs
I'm the same way, Reservoir Dogs; to quote Eric Cartman, "warped my fragile little mind" XD
Mad World in Donnie Darko was fn perfection
I was shocked to hear them perform it in Riverdale. Yes, I watch Riverdale...lol
Mama Mia was a classic hit in its own right and shouldn’t even make the honourable mentions list.

You guys had to be there to understand the impact that Wayne's World had on Bohemian Rhapsody.. it's a 1975 hit that became a hit again and topped the charts in 1992.. in the U.S., it was more popular in 1992 than it was in 1975.. that's like a song from 1998 topping today's charts..
Only because Freddie died at the same time, are you seriously saying most people only knew it because of Wayne's World?
BlueAxeRacer yes, a whole generation discovered the song from Wayne's World.. I was 8 in 1992 so there wasn't much of a reason for me and kids my age to know about Bohemian Rhapsody at the time.. I'm not speaking for the generations before me..
BB13131313, this guy/girl speaks the truth
You would have known about it anyway. I did.
BlueAxeRacer of course I would've discovered it eventually regardless.. but that doesn't change the fact that Wayne's World introduced the song to millions and millions of people..
but the title doesn't say GAINED RESURGENCE it says GAINED POPULARITY and that is INCORRECT for Bohemian Rhapsody, it was voted many times most favorite song in Europe
Technically though they never said it had to lose popularity or be unpopular first, it just had to gain it... and I can see how including it so iconically in Wayne's World helped expose it to a new generation and thus it "gained" more popularity than it previously had.
+Zoe Gartham true
The intro says these songs only reached 'iconic status' after they'd been in the movies. Bohemian Rhapsody was already there by then.
Take it right back to the beginning guys. Rock around the clock by bill haley and the comets was unheard of until it featured in the opening title of Blackboard Jungle. Now one of the biggest sellers and most recorded tracks ever..
Here’s mine:
Movie: U Turn(Sean Penn)
Song: Ring of fire(Jonny Cash)
And then there's every song in Guardians of the Galaxy.
+Depth's Gaming Channel nvm, watched the honarable mentions
+Depth's Gaming Channel nvm, watched the honarable mentions
+Depth's Gaming Channel I was just thinking that before I came across your comment!!
That may the case if you haven't been educated in good music
Hmmmmm NO
LA BAMBA 1987 Los Lobos - great remake of the song
THIS IS SO TRUE. THAT SONG IS SO POPULAR BECAUSE OF LOS LOBOS.
@@bru1sed_v1oletSunny La bamba is mostly popular because its resemblance to Twist And Shout By the beatles
I can’t believe you missed “As Time Goes By” in Casablanca.
Good catch!
How "Goodbye Horses" from silence of the lambs didn't at least get an honorable mention is beyond me
Hooked on a feeling was already iconic decades before guardians of the galaxy and was even in Shrek 2 in the 2004. Bohemian Rhapsody was a HUGE hit on the billboards in 1975 when it came out.
Hooked on a flling was also in Reservior Dogs
I'd say Reservoir Dogs did more for Hooked on a Feeling than Guardians even.
Only in the UK. Elsewhere it didn't even chart until 76, and barely broke the top 10 in the US.
Where is twist and shout from ferris bueller?
Or Twist and Shout from Back To School? Rodney Dangerfield "sang" part of it.
That song was a cover and already famous
Major Trauma That song has always been cool.
You've Lost That Loving Feeling - Top Gun!!!
Old time rock and roll... my nr 1 in this list. Even ALF danced to it!!
This is a crime not having All Star by Smashmouth on here!!! Everyone knows which movie it recieved it's fame from!
Zach Vasquez that song was popular and well over played before I ever saw it in a movie.
If you're referring to Shrek you're so wrong. Before Shrek it gained recognition in Mystery Men
Mystery Men?
Roxette. "It must have been love". When featured in Pretty Woman it went from minor hit in Scandinavia and northern Europe to worldwide megahit.
bullshit. I'm from New Zealand and knew Roxette's singles before Pretty Woman came along.
@@stephenkeen5737 Look Sharp came in 1988. That's when Roxette became big outside Scandinavia. "It must have been love" was first released in 1987. I doubt that it was a big hit in New Zealand first time around. I think I could check that out because I believe my girlfriend has a book about Roxette at home. But the point here is not if "IMHBL" was a small hit or a medium size hit big before being featured in Pretty Woman. The point is it became a much bigger hit by being included in the film. It sure did. If you want to disprove that statement you have to work much harder with your argument than what you just did. But please show me dates and sales and hit charts from 1987 and 1988 and compare with dates and sales and hit charts from 1990 and around then and come back and we'll have a further conversation on the matter. /Åke
@@akedahllof6718 whatever. You can look up stats if you want. Nevertheless I was there and it was popular in NZ first time around. Broke up with my first gf when that song was popular. I'm not disagreeing with that fact that it became more popular after being in a movie because that's natural. I'm just disagreeing with your statement that it didn't go international until after the movie.
@@stephenkeen5737 I might be wrong about it not being a hit outside Europe before 1990. Let's not argue about that. Just for the fun I'll pull out my girlfriend's book this evening and try to see if there is anything there about the album Peals of Passion (released in 1986 or possibly in 1987) being popular outside the Nordic countries. I'll just look for it for my own amusement, to expand my own knowledge, not to try to proove any point or anything. Btw I actually watched a concert with Per Gessle (half Roxette) the day before yesterday. He still tours with both old and new songs. I hope to be able to visit NZ one day, it seems to be an wonderful country. Take care buddy. /Åke
@@stephenkeen5737 You're wrong thogh: The song was first released as "It Must Have Been Love (Christmas for the Broken Hearted)" in December 1987. It was composed after EMI Germany asked the duo to "come up with an intelligent Christmas single".[3] It became a top five hit in Sweden,[4] but was not released internationally.
Hooked on a Feeling was also in Reservoir Dogs
I get chills whenever I hear Hero by Family of the Year because it reminds me of my absolute favorite Boyhood, but I also have only Me, Myself & Irene to thank for me knowing and loving The World Ain’t Slowin’ Down by Ellis Paul.
Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" in "Say Anything"
Well, but that song came out around the same time as Say Anything.
It came out three years earlier!
I was just going to post that. lol. It came out a few years earlier, sure, but it became a monster hit because of the flick.
Yeah baby! Oops wrong reference. 😁
No Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve from Cruel Intentions? Not even a a memorable mention? 😔
and Praise you from fatboy slim
The Verve lost all rights to that song and no one wants to touch it, lest they be sued for rights.
Jennifer Reed To bad too since it really was a great song.
StarChyld4 yeah but cruel intentions was shit....
i haven’t seen any of or most of these movies and i knew all these songs...
For some reason my mind didn't jump to Dropkick Murphys at all lol My parents have listened to them since they started. Shipping Up to Boston is my father-daughter dance at my wedding this year!
Mamma Mia?! Gained popularity from that movie? Seriously? I know it's a honorable mention, but still...
Adam Bergstrom Apparently people find to understand that the list is not restricted to obscure tracks, but to tracks that got a surge of popularity because of their presence in a motion picture. I mean, it's not like they say so in the beginning of the video or anything. Let me explain it simpler. It's not a list of indie or unknown tracks that met fame because of a movie. It's just a list of tracks that GAINED (says so even in the title) popularity via their presence in a movie. When you say "I'm gaining speed" you're not referring to the fact that you go from stationary to moving, but that your speed is increasing.
Adam Bergstrom think they were being sarcastic..
ABBA was big loooong befor mamma Mia the movie.
uskro I don't think that the song actually gained popularity through that movie.
uztre6789 And you're basing that on? Do you have any sales figures before that time window and during that time window?
