- In todays video we engine swap our DIY Mini Bike, The Little Rascal. We do a top speed on the Tillotson 212 then pull that engine and clutch to put on a 79cc with a cvt. We didn't really know what to expect with the 79cc because we've never messed with one before. It surprised all of us by how well it worked and the top speed of 18mph. We down graded the bike with this engine so my son, Grayson, can have it to ride.

Do a full performance build on that little guy. port and polish shave the head a bit and throw some billet parts at it. I haven't seen anyone build up one of those and Ive been wanting to see what they are capable of. if anyone can do it you guys can.

i took the governor out of mine and the top speed i have hit was 35mph it does have some compression loss though I think I should be hitting 40mph I only weigh 120 its plenty fast for me for right now atleast good lil motor
agk makes parts for it. their mild build make 7hp and 6000rpm
Yeah I've been wanting to see someone do a performance build on one of the 79cc engines but I haven't been able to find anything.
@@noahpaulette1490 my buddy's minibike has a bone stock 79cc with 1 tooth retarded cam timing and a long gear. with a giant ass seat and a friggin cooler strapped to the front of it it goes 40mph

I honestly LOVE those little 79cc engines. I am doing a powerwheels build with one and it is just amazing. Good performance for a super small package. 1000000% do a full build on one!
I am interested in swapping out the 212 for the 79 for my grandson on my L'il Rascal. But, it looks like it requires a fab shop to do it, which I do not have. Thanks for sharing!

Mr Red Beard, out here in kommie do gooder land (Los Angeles) the 79cc has disappeared. It’s no longer CA compliant. Funny thing is, the new water pumps on display have a shiney red tank and fan covering a 98cc motor that’s also displayed on the new 1800W generators. The medium pumps have a red tank and fan shroud hiding a 212 Hemi! With the two Max performance motors out and the “Ghost” about to appear, I’m praying the 98cc will be the replacement. Can’t use the generator motor since they usually sport a tapered drive end on the crank with the side cover being the cast mount for the armature. The pumps look to bolt on to the normal cover and should have a straight keyed shaft (hopefully). Trying to put together an Azusa kit bike for small folks and really want a little motor like this. I’d pay good money for a 3 horse flathead if I could find one.
Amazing! You swapped that motor like a pro! And the completed project is stupendous. I ask myself, how do you guys do it??? Has one of the big bike manufactures contacted you yet? Surly they have to be blown away!!!

Absolutely want to see you build up a 79cc predator! ARC Racing finally just released a billet flywheel for the 79, this along with new valve springs, carb, & maybe a cam. Should do nicely 👌 Keep up the great work guys!
That lil mini bike brings back soooo many memories of my day & I back in the 1970's
Try using a 17 tooth front sprocket on the CVT transmission jut to what you get out of it first before doing any further performance mods to the engine.
i have a baja viper with a 79cc predtor no other engine would fit i had to degoverned it to attach a linkage works great went up to 37 mph with 93 octane and 18 lb springs

I'm shocked you didn't remove the governor. ALSO, on the Dodlebug mini bike you do not need the bottom mounting plate the 79cc comes with. Bolts in without it and sprockets line up properly to use a clutch instead of torque converter.

Great video. I think the 79cc is a perfect engine for many projects. A performance build without sacrificing too much reliability would be ideal. I've been waiting a year to watch you do one. Still waiting patiently. Thanks.
if you could put a smaller sprocket on the cvt, and remove the governor, upgrade valve spring and let it rev 5-6000 rpm, it would pull really well down low and have a higher top speed.
Got a Lil Rascal for my son. The only thing I dont like is the size of the rear sprocket. Can't hardly turn left without the sprocket/chain hittin the ground.
ARC now has a billet flywheel for the 79cc. The more you know!
Thanks for doing this project. I have been thinking about putting a 79 cc on my fat tire bike and was wondering if it would work with an available torque converter. Now I know it will, so I will go ahead and get the parts. I'll make a video of the build.

i just bought a doodlebug 80cc frame and through in a 79cc of a powermate lawn edger 3.5 lb ft of toque with clutch 11t dint check what rear sproket it had on it but it did 28mph and havnt hit govner yet

Y'all should build a RCF micro drag bike. They are poppin right now in the mini bike world. Maybe with a 3" Jr. Dragster engine. Torque converter and all.

Have you ever heard the 208 Briggs & Stratton
So how’s the rake and trail geometry on that bike? From the looks of it the steering tube is too steep to get proper trail distance to avoid a squirrelly dangerous steering situation. Got an old Montgomery wards bike that’s like that and it’s super sketchy. Like trying to keep a shopping carts front caster wheel pointing out forward as you push the cart forward when it wants to flop around to lag behind instead.

You can make your own linkage out of a sheet of metal that cancels out the governor, mine goes 32mph+ with my linkage

I have a 79cc ill send out to you guys, its like new only used it for a day then went back an got a 212
Is there an aftermarket carb like the bigger 212s so you can do away with all the horrendous throttle linkage. So the throttle cable can just hook directly into the carb like the aftermarket carb you can buy for the bigger coleman bikes. I hope all that makes sense 😆

I put a predator 212 in my home made mini bike. Its scarry as hell to ride since I've already taken a couple falls at 35 mph with no protection... brused up my heel pretty good that last time and couldn't walk for a couple days. To be fair I didn't have the brakes setup yet so I was doing the Flintstones. But since I've got them working now I feel the torque converter i have topping out at 5k rpm and it has a rattle to it that's super annoying. Thing was only like 60 bucks on Amazon so I definitely need to upgrade.

With something like that I would want to see someone make a chain drive manual gearbox.
Ive got a predator 212 stock with a 36t sprocket and Ive gotten it to 53 with it but 51 is more consistent of a top speed

My 3hp goes 36mph with cheap filter and gov screw bent back. I don't understand why that torque converter made it slower..

I've been wanting to see someone rod a 100cc< engine and now I heard about agk in the comments im stoked. I dont like the big engines on the smaller bikes, and at some point its rpms you want and not more torque.

Curious how yall got the 79cc predator to even pull. I put one on a mini bike cause no room whatsoever for a 212. But it refuses to pull up a hill and barely pulls on level ground. It has a 43 tooth rear if I counted it right with a 4.00x5 back wheel. If you could help guide me it would be appreciated. It had a 50cc 2 stroke to begin with that pulled me but it was slow going up hill. So figured the 79cc would be no issue. But was wrong
