I know Pachmayr grips are available from MidwayUSAdotcom, and also grips are available from Charter Arms on their website. Both are priced around $20.00. Good luck.
Great video. thank you. however many people, like myself prefer a heavier .38. that weighs 21 + ounces.. NO Airweights or ultralight models. No light weights. PERIOD.
I've carried both guns over the years.always like the Colts looks but they were notorious for going out of time with much use.they lock up only at the rear.for the price, you could but a new charter every 5 yrs or so. Far cheaper that the colt.
Have fired them both. The last model of the Colt Detective Special has a shrouded ejector rod and weighs 1 pound 6.6 ounces empty, I pound 9.8 ounces loaded with factory wooden grips. So yes the Colt Agent is lighter. The new model of the Charter Arms Undercover has a shrouded ejector rod, all stainless steel rated for Plus P loads and with wooden factory grips weighs 16 ounces empty and 19 ounces loaded. The Charter Arms has a heavy trigger pull in double action, light as expected when fired from cocked hammer. I have fired an older one that looked like the one in the video and remember a lighter trigger pull. The Colt I find a better made firearm as expected of a more costly gun. Still the smaller and lighter Charter Arms is serviceable and with the small wooden grips more concealable. The Charter Arms small grips and lighter weight requires practice getting control of the greater felt recoil. This also can come from the factory with larger rubber grips but these are harder to conceal. Also they extend closer to the cylinder and make ejecting shells more difficult causing one or two shells to hang up against the grips. This can be remedied by cutting back the grip for improved clearance, I just ordered replacement wooden grips. Both have fixed sights and the newest Charter Arms have slightly improved front sight over the previous runs of this model.
I am a woman and I have a 60's model Charter Arms Snub Nose Double Action Revolver .38 special. I have it for home protection, I feel its a great gun for that.
I just inherited a 1985 charter arms undercover 38 from my father who passed away. I never knew that he owned a gun. I only have a box of S&W .38 +p (I can't find ammo in stock right now) that he kept with it, also from '85. It's my first and only gun so I know little. What will happen if I use +p rounds in it? I emailed the manufacturer and they also recommend against +p, but my friend who owns many guns said +p would be fine. Cool vid. Looking forward to trying mine out.
Mine too, mine is a Bulldog .44 Special. I figured, "why buy a .38 when I can have something not much bigger in size but firing far bigger and heavier bullets and in some cases even faster too?" Only problem is ammo is expensive.
Charter Arms not real common? Ok your video, you say what you want. I have a Detective Special of the same era as yours and several CA snubbies. Oddly enough my CA guns group better on paper than the Colt. That said I'm sure everyone's mileage may very, but I have older Colts that shoot much better that late 70's and 80's era Colts.
I do not find the CA Undercover to be all that bad to shoot. Great little guns, especially the older ones lie you have. Cylinder lock-up is superior. I love mine.
The whole concept of the Colt Agent was to maximize concealment potential by using the short grip frame; if you use larger aftermarket grips, you basically have a Cobra (with in this case a rougher finish, although some Agents were made with the traditional Colt blue finish). Only real difference between the Cobra and the Agent was the shorter grip frame of the latter. Harder to control when firing, but significantly easier to conceal about your person (ankle or whatever).
Speed loaders are not available for the charter arms and never have been. The charter arms undercover 38 special cylinder will not rotate when loaded. It is made that way. So there’s no way to use a speed loader..
I have the 5 shot undercover and use the speed loader Model 36 that I use in my Smith J frame 5 shot. Works fine and doesn't hurt rotation. But why do you have to rotate to load? Insert, turn knob to the right, shake and drop in.
grips make all the difference with these guns. I got an undercover, thought it was a nice soft shoot buti hated how the stock grips looked so i got some nice looking wood grips. Well they looked great but i wound up putting the stock plastic ones back on. as the wood ones had way too much undercut behind the trigger gaurd. 10 rounds downrange and your done with it. Great guns all around though.
I have a Charter Arms Undercover with a Pacmayer Compact Grip. Not a bad little gun fur its size and weight and of course, its cost. I bought it second hand ten or fifteen years ago and shoot it about once a year or so. I use fairly light loads in this little pistol.
I had both, loved the Charter Arms I honestly think the gun weighed less than the bullets, but it kept dropping parts as I shot it, the Colt in a detective special is my home gun its bullet proof
I have not had the Charter for very long, but I like it's compact size and light weight, I do not plan to do +p's from it, Thanks for watching and your comment
I like the Compac grip, and I don't think it adds too much to butt, to make harder to conceal. Don't use an ankle holster, but I see how the smaller grip would be better there.
My Charter Arms is just for for a headboard compartment gun for my bed... Don't expect to get involved in a gunfight with this weapon so five shots id more than I will ever need...
A home invasion incident in Oregon last year involved 2 guys who stormed into the owners bedroom. He sprayed 5 shots and wounded one. The uninjured attacked the homeowner with a knife and killed him.
I wonder if I could get some advice. I have new gun fever. My current edc is a Smith and Wesson 442, which I really love, but I want (don't really need) a new gun. I've narrowed my search down to the Charter Arms Police Undercover (6 shot) and the Armscor m206 with the bobbed hammer. They both have features I like over the other. Again, it's not that I need a new gun, I just want one. Any suggestions, input, advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated. My application is for concealed carry.
I've seen MidwayUSA carry Pachmayr Compac grips like I have on my Colt, and Barami hip grips, that have a lip on the grip, to hook on a belt, so you do not need a holster. Which seems kinda cool. Both sell for around $25.00
I have a charter 38 undercover made in Stratford very accurate,I also shoot +p but not that often....cool video

Even with all the new wonder blasters I still tend to go to snubby’s for carry. Damn I just like them.

I am a woman and I have a 60's model Charter Arms Snub Nose Double Action Revolver .38 special. I have it for home protection, I feel its a great gun for that.
This Charter Arms is from the mid 1980's, and i do not think it is suitable to use +p.
I just inherited a 1985 charter arms undercover 38 from my father who passed away. I never knew that he owned a gun. My Charter Arms is from the early 70's and very accurate....Love it.

My dad bought it around 1986, it is an Undercover model. Thanks for watching.
i love how you pop off some rounds during the tid bits of info.
i also love those revolvers. nice.
I also have 1980s Colt Agent and is my edc I really enjoy and very reliable
I love my CA have had it for over 10 years. Works just like it should. Hard to beat.

I'm about to inherit one. The serial number is 1xxxxx. I'm trying to find out some more information on it's history.
I do not find the CA Undercover to be all that bad to shoot. Great little guns, especially the older ones lie you have. Cylinder lock-up is superior. I love mine.
dudepetri The Charter Arms revolvers I own are a good little firearms. I'm pleased with ownership.

MY choice is the Charter loaded with wadcutters. Solid one piece frame. protected crane and triple lockup. Best revolver design out there.
my Taurus MD 80 says 85 on crane r yoke think made 1985 video on manufactured soon ? 🔫🇱🇷
I would agree, your Charter Arms 38 is a fine firearm for your use. Thanks for watching, Jon.

My undercover 38 special and my 4" 357 magnum target bulldog tracker works fine with my HK 36 / 5 shot speed loaders
I have always considered snubbies as underrated as a defensive tools.
Lets see the gun that killed John Lennon

How old is the undercover and can it handle +p??????

Thanks, i wanted to keep the viewers interest, and show the guns in use too.
any thoughts on where i can find different grips for the charter arms detective. I inherited the gun but i hate the wooden grip
It's an Undercover 38 special. Thanks for watching, Jon
Good video
I have a .32 charter arms...think I can get a rubber grip any help would be great.
I wonder if I could get some advice. I have new gun fever. My current edc is a Smith and Wesson 442, which I really love, but I want (don't really need) a new gun. Either would serve your needs, go with the one that feels right, and practice with it. Good Luck.
Thanks.
What year is that Charter Arms from? Is that the police model?
This one from mid 1980's is 74xxx
Some knucklehead kid, shot Lennon, and used a Charter Arms as the means to that end.
Add "son of sam" since he used a CA Bulldog .44 Spl.
Mi undercover 38spl exelente
nice revolvers,
Thanks, I do too.

Genereral schwartzcoff and charter arms
Schwartxs
Thanks, MrYt59
Speed loader does not work hits bottom of wood grip I tried it .thanks for tip for holster
I don't have a speedloader for the Charter, but I can see the grip would be an issue. Thanks for adding to the discussion.
Speed loader works on my CA with everything but CCI rat shot
what model charter arms is that
Sad day for me
Thanks buddy!
