    I have a Detective Special 3rd Series, manufactured in 1973, with a blued finish. It's a great snubnose revolver. I bought it from a good friend in 2012 for $250. I love that gun.

    There's just something about snub-nosed revolvers. Thanks for sharing.

    I have always favored the Colt snubby. I once owned RUGER 2 3/4 357 Mag. I'm thinking it was a security-six. It was bigger and heavier. Unfortunately, I sold it to buy a Colt. Back in those days I was limited with my funding! Oh well, I still have the memories.... (So far anyway!) Haha!

      Josh over at Soap Creek Armory has a very unique little snub S&W that he built from parts. Josh is a master gunsmith with the Smith revolvers. Basically, it is a S&W model 15-2 converted to 357 magnum. He took a 15-2 frame, fitted it with a model 19 cylinder, and installed a 2 inch model 15 barrel. He cut and chamfered the forcing cone to make it safe for 357 loads. He polished the action and it`s smooth as glass. And all done up in bright polished nickel.
      I sure hope he gets it sold before I go back over there, or it will probably follow me home. :-)
      Just recently bought a full target model 14 and a factory Pinto model 13 from him, so I`ve already done enough damage to the bank account. :-)
      It`s always dangerous to the bank account to go over to Josh`s shop. He always has lots of older Smiths and Colts there.

    I have a 10-5 round butt and a 2nd generation Detective Special (both blued). The older Colts were a bit smaller and lighter. It's all down to personal preference. The old gun store debate from 1970's as to which was better lives on. Get both if you can afford it.

      Being fortunate to have both, had the opportunity to interchange the HKS speed loaders for each and verified that the cylinder diameters are close enough that either loader works well with either revolver. Old cops carried both for that advantage.

    Most of the colts I've seen are the older type with the exposed ejector rod. I do have a subnose model 10 no dash and a 64-5, they are just cool

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  Рік тому +2

      The Detective Specials with the ejector rod shroud were only made for 13 years. The ones without the shroud were made for almost 50 years.

    The only snubbie I own is a S&W Model 15-2 with a 2 inch barrel. Thanks for the video.

    The Colt rotates clockwise....The S&W rotates counter clockwise...=)

      True

      When you pull the trigger, the Colt cylinder rotates clockwise, pushing it towards the gun frame while the S & W does the opposite.

    The s&w with the round butt is a lot closer to size of the Detective special with the ejector shroud. I was extremely surprised to see how much bigger the colt D frame was compared to my s&w 60 and 36.
    Tinkering with the mainspring is a lot easier with both smith K&J frames. I've broken too many V springs adjusting colt springs in my D&E frames.

    think the colt has a slightly longer barrel The S&W is 1-7/8" and the colt is a full 2"

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  9 місяців тому

      The S&W J Frame snubs generally have 1 7/8th inch barrels. The K Frame snubs like this model 10 generally have the 2 inch. But you might find exceptions to both.
