Always makes my day to see more and more Red Dead II videos with so much passion and effort put into them. You and Eyezayar are most definitely keeping this game alive for me following the disappointing death of Red Dead ONLINE.
Even though R* has virtually given up on this game, I'm glad that you and this community hasn't. It's wild that creators can still make very intriguing videos on a game that's 5 years old and the community remains to stay engaged. It makes me wonder all the more why R* seemingly gave up on updating the game or creating DLC for it.
@@Bestgameplayer10The only thing the time period limits is rockstars ability to sell cashgrab yaghs and super cars.. The actual gameplay wouldnt be very different from gta online, rockstar just cant scam children as easily through rdr online so they abandoned it
I can't describe the feeling I get every time I see the notification of a new video of you. It's like the feeling I got when I played rdr2 for the first time, entering in this other world where I stop thinking about whatever's happening in my life and immerging myself in this universe where I can dream with open eyes, relax and just enjoy the experience. Thank you Real Pixels.
Honestly never knew handheld cameras existed so early. I assumed it was an anachronism for the sake of a game mechanic. Somehow I managed to underrate something in this game.
just discovered this series a few days ago, and watched the whole series over a few shifts at work. this is inarguably some of the best rdr2 content out there. one of the things i adore about the game is how it has taught me so much about american history, and i love being able to see every little detail fleshed out and explained!! so well researched and informative, i look forward to seeing more!
Soon as I saw the title, I was glad I forgot that you never covered the gunslinger missions, it just escaped my memory entirely. This is gonna be the best damn video in the series isn't it?
I don't know what impresses me more: the game with its crazy amazing historical references, or the videos with their sheer amount of research, perfect narration and editing and interesting concepts. It's always a blast to play, and it's always a blast to watch your video
I work at Bingham canyon mine, where Red Lopez got caught up, and live in Saratoga springs, Utah right by where he hid out. And supposedly related to Butch somehow
You dug really well into what Schiffer Beer could be inspired by. Out of universe, the name itself is very similar to Pisswasser in the GTA games. "Pisswasser" is german and means "piss water", while "Schiffer" relates to "schiffen", which is a common though slightly old school way of saying "peeing" in Austria and some parts of Germany. A "Schiffer" would then be someone who is peeing. Sorry to drag the quality of conversation down like this, I just get excited when I can share some knowledge from my corner of the world.
you forgot "Golddusche" another beer from GTA V which literally transalates to "golden shower" Rockstar really has a theme of naming their beers after piss related terms.
11:07 the sad thing about this section is that my nana stills calls me and my cousins “toe-rags” when we jokingly annoy her. Was not expecting this word to be in the video 😂
Pixel I've missed your content and you inspired me if I do decide to go to college in the future I'll be choosing between a history or psychology major (At first I was only thinking of psychology but you make history cool).
You said that the Schofield revolver is a "recreation" of the S&W nro. 3 revolver in the game, but the Schofield revolver is actually a real gun in real life, a different version of the nro. 3 revolver. The Schofield revolver is an improved version of the nro. 3, specifically for cavalrymen. It came out in 1875, whereas the original nro. 3 came out in 1870. You should read up on this.
Absolutely love and appreciate your videos man, your coverage a Saint Denis made my trip to New Orleans infinitely more fascinating! Also, would you consider doing a Real History of series for the Uncharted series?! So many awesome real world inspiration taken into the writing / creation of that world
Love love LOVE your videos! But I have to say, it's practically criminal that in the section on William Tell, you didn't follow up with the tidbit that Rossini's classical music composition, "William Tell Overture," is today most commonly known as the "Lone Ranger theme song"! Talk about your classic Western!
"Schiffen" in german also can mean "peeing" as in "pissing". Which reminds me of the Beer brand in GTA5 "Pisswasser". Which ofc plays with the brandname of Budweiser.
I’ve done extensive research on John Wesley Hardin, and I can comfortably say Calloway is not based on Hardin. Hardin was no slouch with a gun, he just might’ve been the most dangerous man you could’ve found yourself against back then. He’s said to have killed up to 42 men, but modern historians say it’s likely more around a couple dozen, it could’ve easily been more than that. Calloway is portrayed as a coward and not as good as the legends portray, which couldn’t be farther from the truth with Hardin. He’s even said to have outdrew Wild Bill Hickock in Abilene Kansas before he killed the snoring man.
Great videos about the historical backgrounds in 'RDR2'. Really like them. About the 'Florida Water' cologne - could the name also be a reference to the 'Fountain of Youth' which at one point in history (the legend of Ponce de León) was thought to be in Florida? Or is this too far-fetched?
Have you done or intend to do a similar experiment with the Mafia series? I'm curious how they compare to how Rockstar did (and would particularly like to see if the 1951 era of Mafia II got anything right because the cars and the music is from much later in the decade)
The gunslingers mission is probably my favorite. Everyone talks down on Calloway and claim that he's a braggart and a blowhard but at the end he demonstrates that he hates having his exploits exaggerated, dislikes dishonorable combat and his skills are the real deal; if you try to duel him normally, you will lose. Also interesting, everyone else you meet and fight in this mission chain uses some sort of underhanded tactic, while Calloway does not.
I always figured that the gunslinger mission strand was somewhat inspired after "The Unforgiven." However, no doubt that Billy Midnight and Black Belle are based on the people you've mentioned.
The side-quest is indeed inspired by Clint Eastwood's "Unforgiven", however, some gunslingers are derived from real-life Old West icons, including Belle Starr, Robert Ford, and Wyatt Earp, but some like Calloway or, perhaps Frank Heck, are an amalgam of both fictional characters and real characters, such as Wild Bill Hickok and John Wesley Hardin.
@@KC.45 Frank Heck was taken out of the game. It does seem there's certainly a possibility that he was based on Wild Bill. But since he wasn't put in the game, and for whatever reason there also seems to be similarities to Jesse James or his brother, I think it's too vague to get a definitive inspiration for the character. And yes, I know he was originally meant to be killed while playing poker.
The game looks like that on PC when all of the settings are set on 4k Ultra. He might be running some visual mods, but idt you really need them when you have a great PC.
Funnily enough, I don't actually use any visual mods! My only active mods are for recording purposes. These aren't even the highest settings either-they're a little closer to medium so I can maintain a higher framer rate. I guess it's a very pretty game!
I'm shocked anybody noticed this! I actually recorded that line but cut it from the video, since it feels very out-of-place without context of the joke. Seems I forgot to cut it from the subtitles, but I guess I won't be removing it now!
Amazing as always, keep up the great work Edit: now that I read it again my comment sounds like a bot. For real though, these videos are amazing and I already watch em a few times.
Good question! A lot of connections have already been made by other people, like on Reddit or the Red Dead Wiki, which makes my work a little easier. I think the Red Dragon one specifically was just the result of lots of Google searches, specifically with terms referring to serial killers and the quote "do you see?". I think the South Park parody showed up before the original book or its movie adaptations, funnily enough!
