Thanks so much for checking out the video! A slightly shorter episode this time, but full of history nonetheless. What are your thoughts on Guarma? It seems to be the most divisive part of the main storyline, so I'd love to hear your thoughts. Special thanks to my supporters on Patreon who watched this video a couple weeks ago and shared their thoughts! And a friendly reminder that I now (occasionally) stream on Twitch, so feel free to stop by and have a chat about our favourite cowboy game!
While RDR2 is my favorite game of all time, and I love Chapter 5, Guarma is still my least favorite part of the game. This is due solely to the pacing. You are on the island for only a couple small missions, and then that’s it. I would have liked it to last another couple hours.
The beta history for Guarma/Guama is really interesting to look into, seems like it was planned to be a massive island that could be freely traveled to later in the story through steamboat.
Real pixels be like: So you see Kieran in chapter 3 says “Hello” to Arthur. The first known usage of hello dates to 1342, so it’s not unrealistic for him to be saying this.

The fact that Cuba exists in the rdr universe but all these places in the rdr and gta franchises are all tiny islands and small chunks of conected lands makes me think the in the rockstar universe everything is the same but some places in the us are islands that are way smaller than they are irl.

It's my least favorite chapter because it's SO linear. You're just locked into a set path of missions with very few options to do what you want. The open-world feel of the game in other chapters is by far my favorite aspect of it. But in Guarma you're just stuck following a specific path that seems to take forever to get through, and nothing really gets accomplished anyway as far as the gang/story/Arthur is concerned.
apart from the one scene in the cave, the whole chapter is completely unnecessary from a narrative perspective. Still at least it can teach us about America's relationship with Cuba.
@@fecesmuncher2448 To be fair, though, what he wanted was an "untouched" tropical paradise from civilization. Cuba's one of those tropical paradises that fell to civilization heavily. That's why Tahiti is the best option for the gang.

I still find it sad that Guarma had so much cut from it, stranger missions, a far larger explorable area, a pirate treasure hunt for god's sake. Guarma is a perfect example of wasted potential on rockstar's part, they still made it beautiful and majestic as anything else in RDR2, but it's still very unfortunate that so much of Guarma had to be scrapped.

WOOOOO. My favourite Red Dead series is back. I was looking forward to this chapter since it is so different to the others in the game. I was curious as to how you’d tackle it and what sources you’d use, as always you knocked it out of the park
After your done covering all the chapters, I hope you do a video covering all the side missions and probably random events in the game, my favorite has to be the legendary gunslingers side mission.
So glad to see you're still carrying the series on, I really hope you do it through to the epilogue and maybe even some online stuff.. Videos are so interesting and informative so thank you.
We're approaching the end of the game and so the end of this series, i'm already a little sad to think about it. Such good videos ! Such an amazing chanel !
RDR2 is great, imagine a GTA set in a a big map, you got all established city like San Fierro, Los Santos, Liberty City, Vice City, and state of North Yankton then you also have the 5 states: New Austin, West Elizabeth, New Hanover, Ambarino, Lemoyne. All we need now is the southeast region, the Appalachians, the great lakes region, the Rockies, and Pacific north!
There was a grainary explosion in my home town when I was a kid. All the dust from moving the corn through the elevator caught a spark and it blew like gunpowder.
What's interesting about the iron clad, is that iron clads of that design were well out of date, and an Era of pre-dreadnoughts andight cruisers such as USS Albany were considered modern standard in 1899. But these old iron clads were still puttering around as those that weren't scrapped by this point had been sold off to South America and were in service up to world War 1. And copies were produced after the war that were a little different. This specific ship has the superstructure of the CSS Virginia, but on its bow, it has a primitive turret like the USS Monitor, likely a compromise design, taking the structure strength but taking the flexibility of the turret structure.
This ironclad especially is out of date. Also looking at the fates of both the CSS Virginia and USS Monitor this ship certainly wouldn’t be a very stable one and would likely capsize and sink in anything but calm seas.
Well it was sent from Cuba. And I imagine the Cuban military was underfunded compared to the U.S. and other colonial states. But I'm also surprised that Bill is shooken by an ironclad, out of date no less. Maybe he hasn't seen much naval combat and stayed fighting natives.
I comment this everytime but I’ve just gotta say that the research and work that goes into these videos are heavily appreciated and commendable. whenever you upload it’s the highlight of my day
This series is really cool after you review the main missions do you think you could review stranger missions or random events? I think that would be amazingly awesome.
Another terrific video that deepens and increases the joy of Red Dead Redemption 2! Love the details, the narration, the pleasant voice, all of it. Looking forward to the next one, as always.
i think sadie calling the maxim gun a gattling gun could've been intentional too, Its not unbelievable that it could be her first time seeing this gun, but had seen gatling guns before, she could've just generalized any weapon like that as a "gatling gun" as we do with certain things today.
Man, Before finding out about your channel, I played the story like once, and did not want to replay it, then I came across your videos. IM ON MY 7TH RUN😍
God I love these videos, interested to see if you'll do the epilogue chapters too, would love to see it! Thank's for making these vids, they really make my favourite game of all time even better
@7:00 the ironclad ship is an issue, in that by 1899 it would have been horribly outdated. Especially of that design, which is based on a coastal/river ironclad. Most navy's,including the US Navy would have been 20 years into the pre-dreadnought era of ships, which wold have looked a lot more like a WW1 era battleship. Also by this point, as Secretary of the Navy, Teddy Roosevelt had already started the reforms to the Navy that got rid of all the older ships to focus on modernization. But seeing as how he apparently wasn't involved with taking San Juan Hill, and that battle happened on a different island than in reality, it's probably safe to say RDR2 exists in an alternate world.
I think the simpler and most likely explanation for Sadie referring to the Maxim as a Gatling Gun is that a Gatling Gun was originally going to be used in the scene, but was replaced with the Maxim for whatever reason after dialogue was recorded. Black Belle does the same thing in her stranger mission when the bounty hunters bring a wagon armed with one to the fight.
I enjoyed the video but the reference to the Ironclads is slightly incorrect. Whilst the first Ironclads fighting each other was in the American Civil War. The first use of an Ironclad was by the French in the Crimean War (1853-1856). Also, the use of Ironclads in the American Civil War wasn’t particularly impactful on naval warfare as most of the Great Powers had or were building Ironclads at the outbreak of the Civil War. This was because they had learnt the lesson of the Battle of Sinope at the beginning of the Crimean War where the steam-powered Russian Navy sank or forced to run aground all but one ship of the Ottoman Black Sea Fleet.
These videos continue to be awesome! I have on question. When you finished this series, could you combine all of these videos into one massive one so that someone could binge the entire series or just listen to it?
The interesting thing about Annesburg is its closeness of the coal mine to the Lannahechee River, the reliance on the railroad, and the steep terrain in the surrounding area, including the mine location. There's actually an area of West Virginia that fits the bill quite nicely. Starting at Marmet (just east of Charleston) and running east along the banks of the Kanawha River are a few different coal mines that line the hillside above the river. A good modern day pick would be the coal mine located across the river from Montgomery, where coal is actively loaded onto train cars and coal barges. However, turn the clock back 120 years, and anyone of these towns could have had similar structures built on the rail yards. All these town share a few similarities with Annesburg: -A large coal mine that is the sole source of jobs in the town -Situated on river that gives navigational access to the mouth of a river near St. Denis/New Orleans -Steep mountainous terrain on the shores of the river -Access to a major railroad that made coal a major part of their freight traffic (IRL: the former C&O, now CSX) That's just my experience from actually living in the area for a couple of years.
Great video but you should have mentioned that the Spanish army featured in this part of the game is there as a part of their action in the third Cuban war that ended one year before the game starts, in fact the uniforms that the guards use are exactly the same as the Spanish army used to wear during this time period. Other mentions to the Cuban war has been mentioned in chapter 3 and 4 since American government took part in a publicity campaign against Spain at that time and it shows in the game. Another deetail that leads to the Guarma situation appears when talking to Mario Dragic since it’s mentioned the sinking of the Spanish ships in the battle of Cabite 1889.

Fun fact: the first slave-plantations in the Americas were operated out of synagogues by Dutch Hebrews in the 16th century. 8:22 The shrunken head makes sense to be placed there. From what I could find the first shrunken heads were made in the 1840's in the Amazon, like Real Pixels said, used for rituals. Lakay to my knowledge was home to a cult of some sort before the gang inhabited it. I couldn't find much that said about the presence of voodoo cults in the late 1890's. The oldest report of voodoo ceremonies I could find was in 1849 in Ohio, and in 1891 in Missouri, although it's not totally unbelievable on of these cults had set up in the Louisiana marsh. (Do keep in mind I hadn't done hours of research on the topic, but rather just what I could find from the first few sources search. So, my info may be a bit inaccurate.

You deserve wayyy more subs
