- We go over the Riedell Angel and the Sure-grip Fame and the pros and cons of each. These 2 skates are at the same price point, but do have some big differences. Hope this helps you choose.
*The Angel brand skates are different. People only tell me bad things about those.
I purchased the Sure Grip Fame skates and I have to say I’m satisfied with them so far. I’m 265lbs with a size 13 foot and I have flat feet. The padding provides great comfort for my flat feet and I can skate for a good two hours. I admit, I did change my wheels to Rollerbones Elite 103A and Rollerbones Reds bearings which greatly improved my roll. I live in Atlanta so I gotta learn some jam skating and hopefully with these skates I’ll learn some. 🛼

Sure Grip boots run a little wider; Riedell boots run narrower and have smaller toe boxes. So a lot of men find Sure Grip boots to fit better, similar to Risport boots, while a lot of ladies like the fit of Riedell boots.
Riedell comes in different widths so it’s negligible. Just pick the right width.
Sure Grip must have seen your video! The updated Fame skates now have the nut instead of the rivet, and ABEC 5 bearings. The extra padding in the boot is simply fantastic!

I purchased the frames, they came with Abel 7 bearings, and sonar zen wheels. Roll awesome, and boots are comfortable, they are riveted though.

Can you do a video for outdoors, for rhythm and dance? I know the wheel matters but was curious on the skate boot itself which style/ brand options I should look at for skating at parks and generally the outdoors.

Sorry, I'm so busy now that our rink finally is able to open. It's all about the wheel though. Get a soft wheel 80a or below.

Thanks for the review! I'm trying to decide between a pair of Chaya Melrose Elites (clearance) , Sure Grip Fame w/ aluminum truck (a little pricier, but may last longer?), or the Riedell 135 w/ aluminum truck (priciest but worth the investment?). It's so hard to choose! I also have a half-size foot (8.5) with a wide width (D) so it seems hard to find something that is both affordable and well made. Would greatly appreciate any insight or suggestions. 😉
My choice is fame with sg aluminum truck. All the support you need

Riedell angel has been recommended to me as well what bearings and weeks should I switch them to if so ? I heard the wheels not as good on rudely angel skates what bearings and wheels matter beside outside Vs indoors wheels being different. Does changing the bearings and wheels make it easier to skate ?
Yes there bearings do make a difference. Bones Swiss or Bronson g3s. Stay away from reds. They are cheap and only last a year at most.
Interested in a informational or comparison video for Jackson brand skates vista, mystique or finesse. I've heard they are good but their aren't any professional opinions.

I haven't been able to feel a difference in different rated ABEC bearings outside or inside. Mostly comes down to whether they are not rusty, clean, and packed with grease.
If you take them all out and spin them without the wheels you can see a big difference
That's because 'abec' is a machining industry term that is completely and utterly meaningless to skaters of any kind. It really needs to be dropped bc, truly, it's misleading.

Yes. I didn't even realize there was a separate skate called the Angel's until last week. Those are different and I have not seen those in person yet.

Thanks for posting! I’ve been consumed with finding a reasonable/durable skate for my son whose 14 and 6’0. He is interested in roller skating. Atlanta style skating/rhythm skating. I currently have the Fames skates in my cart, but I’m not 100% confident being these skates are $239 and reviews are mixed with these skates. Any suggestions? I’m okay with spending $250 on skates. I just want him to have a good, safe, quality skate. Thx
Hi, thanks for watching. Weight is important too, how much does he weigh? Man that's crazy they are getting a way with selling them at that price, but I guess that's just what is is these days. The Fame is a good safe skate, but more for artistic skating rather than style and rhythm although a quick change of wheels would fix that. Try the Jackson skates (Vista Mystique or Finesse). They also make ice skates so they are known for decent quality boots. Hope you find/found something.
I am definitely team Riedell! The Sure Grip Fames were the worst and the tongue, although heavily padded, rubs across the toes in a very uncomfortable spot. Not to mention, the overall construction was super sloppy with glue everywhere. Hated it! Thanks for posting a comparison.
Thanks for the comment. Interesting about the glue, sounds like a factor defect. Riedell definitely wins this battle, but I will say Sure Grip does have a lot more variety in plates, wheels, etc. Anyways, thanks for watching.

Ok so what type of skating are these 2 skates good for ? I keep seeing reidell recommended by folks who do more like rhythm dance moves ( not artistic like figure skating ) why is that ? Trying to learn more about structure of skates
Too many people over think it. These are good skates you can use for rhythm and artistic and just casual fun
Assuming they are both right out the box, they both come with grease in the bearing to prevent any rust as they sit on the shelf, cleaning the grease out and lubing them with proper oil, makes a big difference, it won’t make a bad bearing smooth, but frees the spin up.
So if I were to buy black Riedell Angels as a women's 8, I should size down to a 7?

Sure Grip Fame indoor skates have ABEC-5 bearings not ABEC-3...not sure if they changed that since your video but they seem to spin the same in your demonstration so maybe just an error.

I just purchased a brand new pair of these off Facebook marketplace for $30 with bag.
Maybe you purchased the "Angel" ones from Angel Skate Company? Totally different skates and the quality is no where near the quality of Riedell's Angel skates.
Now that's a rare fish. If you're in the business of comparisons, keep it up.

Fame is great first timer skate. And boot is comfortable
