hi chelsea! i’ve been following you on instagram and i got these 135 boots thanks to this review, and even though online it says production time is up to 12 weeks now, it’s really great to hear that it didn’t take too long for yours to come in!!
Thanks for the review! I appreciate your point of view. I personally think both skates are awesome. I wouldn't knock on nylon plates so much. Nylon plates perform extremely well with more than twice your weight - and are lighter. I have a 350lb-ish friend that skates daily on Lolly's and has for years. That is a testament to Riedell - they make a quality boot. For me the big difference is the fit and feel between the boots. The Lolly is more comfortable and ready to skate right out of the box without any mods. I also feel a bit more confident in it.
I cannot thank you enough for making this review. I've recently fallen in love with this boot but found it SO hard to find any info about it. very helpful :)
ah thank you so much! this is exactly why i made it. i am a fanatic about watching reviews before i make a purchase and i found nothing on Riedell, but i trusted that if they manufacture Moxi they’re skates would be as nice. glad i could help :)
If the protectors are not washable, put them in a freezer bag and then in the freezer for at least 24 hours to kill the bacteria that are causing the odor. You do the same thing with running shoes. The parts should of course be dry beforehand!
Thanks for this!! This is literally the only review I’ve seen on YT for the zones, great job. I finally ordered mine in tan last night from a shop fully waiting to wait 10+ weeks and just got an email that they’re in stock & shipping soon! I’m stoked :)
I really enjoyed your review. I’ve had my 135 tan boots for about 3 years now and they’re looking really nice still. I do wish I ordered mine with an adjustable toe stop though (I need to ask someone on how to change that lol). I have a friend who works at a skate shop, and she did tell me that the moxi boots do have a double suede lining although they do have that fabric overlay more-so for aesthetics. A boot that doesnt have the double suede would be the boardwalk boot from suregrip. Although, they are practically the same boot, the upcharge is more-so for the brand because both models come with the same powerdyne plate, double suede lining and even come from the same factory.
ah okay thanks for the insight! i’m under the impression the inside lining wasn’t leather even under the decorative fabric. the Lolly isn’t as stiff as the 135. the Jack is stiffer though, so maybe it’s lined with leather. you can upgrade the linings when you customize them too so i’m not sure when they come with leather lining, maybe just the jack boot? I’ve heard from someone who used to work in the factory that the Moxis are made slightly less quality to make up for the upcharge of all the fancy colors (if you ordered the 135 boot from Riedell you’d have to pay $100 for a custom color). that’s something i was looking at when i was originally gonna order the Lolly and I ended up just getting the black boot and avoiding and further charges lol. the only upcharge i paid was for my plate is in reference to getting an aluminum instead of a nylon. Nylon plate is standard on both, but I upgraded to an aluminum plate. my total was $40 more than a pair of Lollys and i upgraded $170 for the Reactor Neo plate (so that’s a deal!). I know Riedell manufactures Moxi, but Riedell is more affordable in their packages, just with less fun colors. (also, Moxi charges $100 for a wide size, but with Riedell that’s free). it’s a give and take depending on what you want! if I keep park skating I might end up wanting to try a Jack boot. and nice to know your boots are holding up!! i’m looking forward to having mine for years. i learned to opt for the adjustable toe stop through much research and videos before ordering lol! i believe your plate has to be compatible and there’s two types (one uses a washer and nut, and mine doesn’t). maybe your plate accommodates the first one i mentioned
@@ChelseaViroz Honestly, this skate is the more financially reasonable one. Another great set of wheels are the Atom Pulse wheels. That's what i've been using the last two years and they're so bomb outside.
Heather Beardwood hi there!! yes these are a TAD bit stiffer but nowhere near a Jack boot stiffness. they don’t feel stiff at all, but if you’re comparing to a Lolly the ankle holds up a little better and the tongue is a tad bit thicker as well. this is because it’s lined with leather on the inside instead of the lining of the Lollys. i’ve researched this and compared to friends skates and can confirm that the Lollys do not come lined with leather on the inside, they are visibly thinner than my Riedells but by one suede lining. I’ve been doing aggressive park skating and they are holding up so well and i can see in comparison to my friends Lollys that they hold up a little better by the ankle crease areas, but are virtually still not as supportive as Jack boot or other material skates. they’re gonna be long lasting and they clean up well even after taking a beating. however, if i keep aggressive park skating i might want to get a second skate set with a stiffer ankle support because when i practice jumps or new tricks i can’t imagine these would protect from an ankle injury
Hi Chelsea, I came across your review since I'm looking at the same scenario, and I'm happy I did. I'd love a lovely boot color if possible, but first, it's getting back to skating. Great review on this option.
Riedell does offer custom colour lab options for their boots, so you could get these boots in a different colour if you want. You can also get this model in tan, and dye them yourself (I’ve seen some people do this on reddit)
I had the same problem with the sonar zen. A 78a feels sooo much nicer. I made my old sonar wheels into outdoor skateboarding wheels for a trick board. Good luck with your skate journey, subbed!
ahh i was wondering if i was the only one! i’ve seen a more advanced skater using the zen wheels on asphalt and i was like how?! haha they only feel nice to me at the skate park or really smooth ground like that. i have the 78a radar energy wheels in the mail! i hope they come in soon
Chelsea Vivas yeah for some reason a lot of people like them? I’ve slipped on them three times before Bc they weren’t grippy enough, and that was on a tennis court 😬. But 78a wheels are way better, and I’ve heard great things about radar energies! Apparently small enough to make doing tricks easier.
yes no problem!! i’ll do that sometime within the next week :) i just got new wheels so i’m also gonna film putting wheels on and off and bearing in and out :)
Thanks so much for this video!! Just getting back to skating after 35 years and rentals at the rink aren't getting it. Very good info, just what I was looking for! I too am a bit heavy, so the info was invaluable about the plate upgrade! Had Reidells when I was 14-18 and loved them. Ordering mine now! Keep up the great vids! Roll on!!
how lucky are you that supply chain issues led you to a superior set-up. For $40 more you have a wildly better plate. amazing. Moxi marketing is on point for getting people to pay so much for less.
Thanks for the review!! Have you noticed if the tongue slips on these boots? The tongue on my Lolly's starts sliding to the side after about 30 minutes of skating. It's pretty annoying but that is really the only issue I have with the Lollys. I'm curious if the 135 has the same issue? If not, I'm totally sold :) My first pair of skates I ordered from Riedell directly about 6 years ago, it was the Citizen 111. Great beginner boot with lots of ankle support. And affordable! Probably quite similar to the build of the Moxi Beach Bunny (but about $20 cheaper). The only problem with the Citizen 111 versus the Beach Bunny is the color. Citizen only comes in black and white. The Moxi Beach Bunny's come in such cute colors, they're very stylish. Might be worth the extra $20 to get a Bunny. In any case, Riedell makes a nice skate for sure.
the tongue doesn’t slip for me much once it’s tied. i skate for an hour or two and it’ll have barely moved. the boot of the Riedell citizen and Beach bunny do look alike! (i also believe you can pay a custom fee to get the citizen boot in a custom color). the main difference is the quality of the plates. i’ve seen some questionably defective photos posted to reddit of the beach bunny plate since it’s made in China vs the high quality powerdyne plates you can get from Riedell. either is a good supporting boot! I just prefer suede boots. hope this helped!
@@ChelseaViroz Thanks so much! It's nice to know the tongue on these ones might be better than the Lollys. That literally is the only issue I have with my Lollys. i mainly skate outdoors and dance for fun so i wouldn’t be able to tell ya.. but post this question in the rollerskating reddit and i’m sure someone will have a better answer for you!

Riedell has a category on their website of rhythm skates if you want to get an idea of what they classify as good skates for dance
hi thanks for the video. I was wondering if you have enough room in your skate for an insole? You mentioned you are a 9.5 and bought a size 8. Just wondering before I buy, if i should buy a bigger size to allow room for an insole. thanks
This video was super informative. I haven't gotten any skates yet but I never knew about cleaning the bearings. Where do you learn about skate care like that? Same with information about plates? I find that the only place I'm able to find info is the r/rollerskating reddit but its filled with so much talk about Moxi's skates. And I also wanted the Jade color! What made you decide on the black color?
I learned everything from Reddit, UA-cam, and instructions that came with my bearing cleaner. The plates I didn’t know anything about until right before I ordered my skates someone I follow on Instagram had cracked their Nylon plates, that’s when I started looking into it and I saw a recommendation that if you’re near 200 lbs or planning on skating aggressively you should upgrade to metal plates. i figured it would save me money in the long run to start with good plates instead of upgrading later. and yes! the reddit has been slammed with Moxi talk even though they’ve created a designated place for that.. hopefully it gets more organized or more people keep posting general skating stuff. I chose the black because I was indecisive and impatient.. I knew I liked jade but I couldn’t get myself to commit so I decided to get a plain color since it would ship faster anyways. my plan is to set aside money every month so i can get a second pair of skates in jade and make them my park setup with blocks and stuff (changing my wheels everyday has gotten annoying!)
